Interview with speaker Dr. Joe Capista and Author of What Can a Dentist Tea
2008-03-03 16:18:00
On October 7, ‘07 I posted an article on how to plan a book blog tour and then again on February 2, ‘08 I posted another one about virtual book tours. I have been fascinated with the concept and thought it was a brilliant way to take advantage of the technology that is out there. Book signings are passe and authors need to look elsewhere to get the word out about their books. A virtual blog book tour costs very little and you don’t have to travel and you can reach thousands of people in a short time. You can organize it yourself or you can hire book blog specialist to do it for you. I received an e mail request last week from Nikki Leigh with an invitation to participate in a 3 day book blog tour for Dr. Joe Capista. I agreed and was very impressed with the information that was provided for me to post the information. Enjoy the interview with Dr Joe Capista. Take notice of his video book trailer, photo and book cover all necessary elements for a successul book blog...

Marketing Strategies and Tips to Position Yourself
2008-02-28 21:09:00
Yesterday, I spoke to a group of authors who are going through a year long program called Quantum Leap. The Harrison brothers owners of RTIR and producers of the Publicity Summit invited Jack Barnard and me to talk to the authors on how to grow their businesses and services through speaking. I spoke to them about the marketing end of speaking and gave them an overview on how to create a winning strategy. We also know that authors have a tricky time speaking about their books and need a bit of help in the presentation department. Jack shared how to play the game of speaking and how to get the ticket. Several of the folks resonated with that and signed up for our 5 day Speakers’ Bootcamp at the end of March. Today Wendi McNeil weighs in on Marketing Strategies and Tips that will help you to position yourself… Becoming a professional full time speaker isn’t easy…everyone knows that, it takes a lot of dedication, determination and most important you have to have the pas...

11 Quick (and Good) Content Ideas for Your Ezine or Website
2008-02-22 01:18:00
by Alexandria K. Brown Publishing articles, especially via an e-zine, is the ideal opportunity to showcase your business. By sharing your knowledge and expertise, you build credibility as an expert, while spreading the word about your services and products. While I’m sure that sometimes you have dozens of content ideas, I bet other times you find yourself staring at a blank computer screen, grumbling that it’s publishing time again. Well, have no fear! Here are 11 quick (and good) content ideas for when you’re in a pinch. 1. Give real-life success stories. Describe a problem you’ve solved for a client/customer, and use that as a springboard to offer more general advice. Show your readers how you’ve helped customers address challenges — “case studies” if you will. This positions you as the expert in your readers’ minds more than your coming out and saying so. 2. Think of three areas in which you’d like your clients to think...

50 Networking Thoughts Everyone Should Read
2008-02-14 17:36:00
Networking is by far one of the most effective ways that I have garnered business. It’s great to get yourself out there. I would say that 50% of my business comes from my relentless networking. Afterall marketing your business is about realtionship marketing. People like to do business with people they know and feel comfortable with. When I saw the following post 50 Networking Thoughts Everyone Should Read by Scott Ginsberg in Rain Today I was moved to share it with you today. One of the challenges in networking is being able to say what you do in 30 seconds or less. It might be called your round robin or your elevator speech. BTW: it is not about shoving your business card in someones hand and thinking they are going to call you. In the Speakers’ Community Membership site that I run I am offering a teleclass on 2/26 with guest expert and author Lorraine Howell on how to give your elevator speech a lift. You can join the call or listen to the replay by joining the Speak...

Publicize Via Social Networks
2008-02-07 16:15:00
by Fern Reiss, CEO, PublishingGame.com/Expertizing.com Social networking’ has become the latest buzz phrase – but what is social networking exactly, and why would you want to get involved in it? The answer is that social networks—Facebook, LinkedIn, Ryze, Bebo, MySpace, etc—are fast becoming a phenomenon worth paying attention to, and are potentially poised to usurp many of the publicity and advertising dollars formerly vested in the more traditional media. In today’s world, you become known by the talks you give and the articles you write. In tomorrow’s world, you’ll be known by your online profile. If you’re an author, independent publisher, or small business owner, the earlier you jump in and get involved, the more connected you’ll be five years from now—and the better your business will be doing. Here’s how to get started: Decide which social network works for you Ideally, every small business owner should be working all the social networks, but of course, ...

Authors Tour the World with Virtual Book Tours
2008-02-02 21:53:00
Copyright © 2007 by Cheryl Kaye Tardif. Reprinted with permission of the author Over the years, authors who wanted to promote their books directly to the public had one main option; you had to physically travel across the country conducting book signings and readings in various bookstores and praying that people would show up. This meant spending money on flights, hotels, transportation and meals. This traditional type of book tour is expensive and very few publishing companies are willing to pay for them. But now, authors have a new method of ‘touring the world’―the virtual book tour. Virtual book tours (also known as virtual author tours, guest blogging, blog tours, or VBTs) are a simple concept. The author tours various blogs and sites that pertain to a theme in the book or to writing in general. This way, you can potentially reach thousands of avid readers each tour day from the privacy of your office or home. The goal of marketing your book is to expose it to as many peo...

Generate Terrific Leads And Build Your Brand With Event Marketing
2008-01-30 20:37:00
The following article comes to us from RainToday.Com Editor’s Note: In this two part article, Michelle Palmer looks at why invitations to events work well to generate quality leads. Part two, featured in the upcoming February 6 issue of Rainmaker Report, will list how to craft effective event invitations. I used to consider “event population” or “filling seats” a necessary evil for event marketing. Seminars, webinars, conferences, speaking engagements – they are a whole lot of work, resources, time and energy, and for what? A fifty percent drop-off rate? A few dozen people straggling in late, eyeing the free Continental breakfast? Granted, when you do get qualified attendees, you get the opportunity to showcase a much greater scope of your services than you would during an introductory sales call, for example. It also seems that live events enjoy a higher prospect-to-client conversion rate than less interactive lead generation methods, such as receivi...

If you would like to attend go to the following link and register. http://www.speakerservices.com/teleclasse s/detail/84 Hosting a webinar can bring your business or organization to the next level. Webinar s are not hard to present but, you must plan carefully. 1. Let your event determine the technology, not the other way around: Is it important for your attendees to communicate with the presenter during the presentation? Is a valuable element of your presentation to show live software? Do you want the option to record and archive the event for playback? 2. Offer something valuable: Don’t be disappointed if your attendance numbers are less than that at 40-50% of your registration numbers. That’s the industry standard for attendance at Webinar events. You can work toward increasing your numbers by offering a prize or valuabl...

Use video to market your services online
2008-01-24 05:06:00
I have been exploring the various ways that business folk use video as a marketing tool. Today I am going to share several creative ways that I discovered and also you can see my first attempt at creating a video montage using my mac laptop and photos to share info about my services. I know the video is not great and I will get better at it and I love the possibilities. Many of our speakers and authors have created one-three camera videos. For speakers it is important to do a three camera shoot in front of a live audience. Meeting planners want to see you in action. But first let’s hear what Paul Kleinmeulman thinks about video.. If you are marketing just about anything online then I guarantee that you can make it better with video. You have heard that pictures tell a thousand words well video says a million. There isn’t a better way for you to describe, show and teach people then with video. But Before We Go Any Further Lets Answer This… But Why Video s? Let&rsquo...

To Self-Publish, Or Not to Self-Publish
2008-01-21 01:09:00
This is a question I get asked all the time. Let’s see what Scott Jeffrey, www.BestSellingAuthor.com has to say. The decision to self-publish versus publishing with a major publisher is sometimes irrelevant. Can you get a publishing contract from a major publisher? Naturally, this isn’t such a straightforward question since you really don’t know until you try, but here are some questions to ponder: Can you get a book proposal in the hands of someone who will read it without going straight to the slush pile? Do you have any contacts in the publishing field? (Contacts aren’t essential, but they certainly can help.) Do you have an agent? Someone who will champion your work—someone who is passionate about your message? (If you’re approaching small to medium-sized publishers, you don’t need an agent.) Do you have a platform for selling large numbers of books like a radio or television show, a weekly or monthly column in a highly circulated magazine/newspaper, or a huge...

I have had an e-zine for many years and continue to enjoy the benefits of staying out in front of my subscribers. As a of matter fact if you have not noticed yet- I am a shameless e-mailer. On the monthly Speakers’ Community teleclass today I interviewed TJ Walker and we were talking about how content is the king/queen and how valuable it is to have an e-zine. It realy does not matter whether it is 1 tip a week or a month but what does matter is that you stay out in front of your prospects. If you don’t you are missing out on mucho business. It may not come right away and it could take 3-6 years and people do forget you unless you are out front. When the time is right they will use your services. Enjoy the 12 Tips that Larry is offering to you and hopefully ...

Your Book Blog: 10 Practical Tips
2008-01-10 04:13:00
Your Book Blog : 10 Practical Tips by Debbie Weil 1. Just do it. As soon as a plan to publish your book is in place, start your book blog with www.TypePad.com or www.WordPress.com (free). Worry about the details later. Just get it going! 2. Grab the URL that matches the title of your book. If you’re not sure what the final title will be, register everything it might be. It costs less than $9 for a one-year registration on www.GoDaddy.com or the registrar of your choice. When the title is finalized you can move your TypePad or WordPress blog to that URL. 3. Mention the URL of your book’s blog in your book. In the text, direct your readers to www.yourbookblog.com for “updated or additional resources” or “useful links.” 4. Post to your book blog whether you feel like it or not. Try to post at least every 10 days, even if you’re in a crazy phase with your book. You want your blog calendar to show no fewer than several entries a month. Remember, the sooner you start blogging...
Crafting a Professional Speaker’s Kit that Leads to More Engagements and
2008-01-06 02:18:00
I’ve been learning how to create video from my mac laptop and here is a very short video message that I created. I want to reach out to my e-audience in a more personal way rather then always via text. Have a look please and let me know what you think. Does it inspire trust-do you get a sense of who I am? speak-your-way-to-more-biz.mov Today’s post is by Scott Jeffrey A speaker’s kit is a brochure to promote your various speaking services (keynotes, workshops, etc). Event planners (sometimes via speaker bureaus), business executives, and small business owners are your most likely recipients. The size of your speaker’s kit will depend on how actively you speak publicly and in what venues. The design of your speaker’s kit should be similar to your media kit, which should be consistent with your website and your overall brand or professional identity. Here are the various pages and information that you’ll probably want to include: Keynote Presentation: This is yo...

How To Leave Voicemail Messages That Have Prospects Begging To Meet You
2008-01-02 21:31:00
My colleague speaker and author friend Chellie Campbell www.chelliecampbell.com always says there is gold in the phone. As a matter of fact she painted her phone gold and wears only gold shoes. In her workshops she teaches the attendees to send out ships. That is all great but how do you leave a message that gets potential clients to call you back? Today’s post by Jill Konrath, Contributing Editor of Rain Today offers us 5 great strategies on leaving voice mail messages that get call backs. If you are mining for speaking gigs, media interviews or consulting work all the tips apply. Sick and tired of prospective clients never calling you back? Then it’s time to take a good hard look at what you’re doing - or not doing - that’s creating these results for you. Voicemail is a fact of life today. Whether you like it or not is irrelevant. Speaking On The National Associations Circuit: How To Catch The Fast Track
2008-01-01 23:15:00
By Vickie Sullivan, from Rain Today ZZ Top said it best: “I’m bad…I’m nation-wide.” And it’s true; speaking at national associations has a certain cache and can give you access to the movers and shakers of a particular industry. Getting to the podium, though, can be quite a trip. When it comes to selecting speakers, associations use two processes. The key is to participate in both processes simultaneously. The following is an insider’s view of the system and tips to get on the fast track. The Call For Presentations First is the published process, known as the call for presentations. This process is mainly used for concurrent speakers but keynoters can post too. The notice is distributed to the association’s membership and publicized in industry media. Many association websites announce the call with a downloadable form. I was a volunteer program chair for a national association for four years, the point person for both keynote and ...

10 Tips Writers Need to Know about the Publishing Game
2007-12-23 02:07:00
by Jean-Noel Bassior 1. Forget the horror stories you’ve heard about the publishing world Your friend Jason told you that his cousin’s mother, Edith, sent her manuscript to a publishing house or literary agent two years ago – and she’s still waiting for a response. What Jason left out is that Edith wrapped her 400-page manuscript in brown paper and addressed it to “Editor,” Simon & Schuster. Are you getting the picture? You wouldn’t respond either if you got a thousand packages in the mail each week for “Occupant.” A lot of stories circulate about what happens when authors submit their material to agents and editors, but be slow to judge. The truth is, if you learn to play the publishing game like a pro, you won’t have Edith’s experience. 2. Be a letter, not a package when submitting to literary agents Believe it or not, literary agents open their mail. Why? Because they’re looking for gold – a lively, focused query letter. What’s in it for them? Shee...

Do You Have A Blog But Not A Lot Of Time?

Here Are 5 Tips To Help from Cash Rich 91719 Blog Susan’s note: I have been blogging for the past year and have been enjoying it. I find that I can offer great information to my readers and they can check it out anytime. Whereas an e-zine which I have had since ‘95 you can only send out once or twice a month and just say so much. I also discovered that if I mention in my e-zine And in the Blog and list the last 5-6 posts and the link to the blog it creates alot of interest. I see the stats climb whenever I add and in the blog . 1. Start a Community Blog. A community blog is just that, a community of like-minded people who contribute to a blog. One of the obvious advantages to this type of blog is that you don’t need to spend a lot of time posting yourself to be part of an active blog. If you have a community of three or more people and you each post at least twice a week then you will have a pretty active blog. Be sure to use an RSS feed and have all contributors ...

Online Videos Build Trust & Keeps Customers Engaged
2007-12-16 18:54:00
Do you realize that most website users spend less than a minute browsing each website they visit? Therefore it is vitally important to find a way to capture their interest immediately. One of the best ways I know to reach out to potential clients in an innovative, interesting and personal way is by having video on my website. Whether you are a speaker, author or entrepreneur or any kind of professional it really makes a difference in getting hired. Gone are the days when we searched the yellow pages for an attorney, accountant or a doctor. We want recommendations from our friends or colleagues and what if we could get a look at these folks before ever calling? I personally want to see if we are on the same page and feel who they are. If I am inspired I will take the next step and call them. This is the same truth for an author whether you want to read their book or for hiring a speaker. Well for some of us it can be quite a challenge to produce the video and then to have it look pro...

Add More Value to Your Services
2007-12-15 18:38:00
You may be aware that I launched the Speakers’ Community a membership site in early November. I offered 60 days for free until the end of Dec ‘07 to give folks an opportunity to experience the value of the Community and if satisfied then $49 a month would be debited automatically from their account. I worked hard to offer instant valuable bonuses as well as a Community Listing in the directory which is open to the public and to the members to find one another. I invited guest experts each month onto the monthly teleclass and recorded the conversation to add to the library. Additionally the Inner Marketing Circle once a month has been inspiring and with lots of coaching happening and the replay is archived. I thought I was giving great value for $49 a month. Afterall, a teleclass call charge might be $49-$99 and one on one coaching could be $250 an hour plus a listing in the Community Directory. At least that was my thinking. And yesterday I heard a voice saying add more ...

Why Book Tours are Passe
2007-12-13 03:35:00
Author readings and signing sessions, once the staple of publishing publicity, are being usurped by virtual encounters and promotional videos. By Teresa Méndez | Staff writer of The Christian Science Monitor from the November 30, 2007 edition The author tour, with its accompanying readings and signings, has come to be the quintessential tool for promoting books. It is a chance for writers to charm their readers and for readers to glimpse the person behind the words. At its best, the meeting can be electric. (At worst, nobody shows up.) But in the past five years or so, observers say the traditional author tour has been in decline: Fewer writers are being sent out, and those who do tour make fewer stops. Among the many reasons for this shift are marketing tools that have made it possible to orchestrate a virtual encounter, without the hassle or expense of travel. Publishers and authors are now touting books through podcasts, film tours, blog tours, book videos, and book trailers. In...

Authors Need Help Speaking their Books
2007-12-11 19:51:00
A few days ago Jack Barnard and I met John Kremer www.bookmarket.com at his Book Marketing Blastoff Seminar in Los Angeles. He had asked us to talk with his authors about how to speak their books and also to introduce Speaker Services to his attendees. John Kremer In the short time we had Jack shared a few tips ie: you need to solve a problem and to be able to speak it in 2 or 3 sentences so people will ask you to tell them more. It was quite an eye opener for John to see that the authors were challenged to do the exercise. I told John months ago over lunch that most authors do not know how to speak their books and needed training. He got it! John suggested that we join together to offer a Book Market and Authors ’ Speak Easy Workshop which includes a one camera shoot. We like that idea and also we are looking at doing a one day seminar with John just before the Book Expo which is in Los Angeles at the end of ‘08. John suggesst that authors have video on their website an...
