Let Your Inner Geek Come Out to Play
2008-06-07 04:00:00 The following post is from Book Bites -Lynne Klippel SEO, which stand for Search Engine Optimization used to scare me to death. It seemed too hard, too expensive, and only for techno geeks who were good at statistics. Consequentially, I ignored it and made some blunders- like naming a website Femme Osage Publishing.com. Who would be searching on the internet for such an obscure term? While I cannot claim to understand everything about SEO or cover it fully in one article, I can share what I’ve learned so that you can avoid some of the internet mistakes that I’ve made. SEO is the process of making your website attractive to internet search engines like Google, Yahoo or MSN. Using keywords is one of the easiest and most effective ways to make your webpage popular with search engines. Keywords are words that people type in the search boxes when they are looking for information. For example, if I want to find a book cover designer in Seattle, I’d go to Goog... Designing And Delivering Messages That Stick
2008-06-02 16:46:00 Today’s post is from RainToday by Pamela J. Gordon When it comes to selling your services, getting your foot in the door is only half the battle. Presenting your message so that it “lands” and “sticks” is the other half. After all, your goal as a professional service provider is to move your prospect or client to a particular action. That won’t happen unless your message is understood and, even more important, remembered. The problem is, like most people, your clients are on information overload—bombarded by what scientists estimate to be more than 40,000 non-related concepts each day. So it’s not surprising that the people you meet and do business with are likely to forget as much as 90% of the information you tell them within 48 hours of meeting with them. How can you pack more “punch” into your phone calls, meetings, and other presentations so that your message resonates with clients and prospects? The key lies in first understanding how adults lea... How to Earn a Reputation as a Thought Leader
2008-05-28 20:07:00 The following post is from RainToday by Susan Wylie Lanfray. What I especially like about this article is that the author talks about finding your niche, branding and using surveys to better understand your target audiences. The survey also helps the group to learn more about the industry: the results are studied within the firm to make the team more knowledgeable, and this data analysis provides content for articles, presentations, and seminars. Are you thinking like a thought leader? In the last decade, thought leadership has proven to be a vital driver for business success and is a discipline in its own right. Those who understand and effectively apply the core principles of thought leadership are positioned to become market leaders able to take their companies to the next level of growth. Listen up to the following advise and see if your business begins to expand. “When you don’t have to go out and pitch, when people seek you out because of your expertise,... Why Aren’t You Talking to Me?
2008-05-20 16:42:00 Scott Ginsberg offers valuable tips on nonverbal communication. Try a few of his tips the next time you are networking and see if it makes a difference! Your nonverbal communication talks before you do. According to most interpersonal communication textbooks, only seven percent of interpersonal communication is transmitted verbally—the remaining ninety-three percent speaks for itself. And, because nonverbal communication is learned and practiced on an unconscious level, you won’t be aware that you silently scream, “Please don’t talk to me!” When you enter a room full of associates, clients or friends, each of them intuitively asks one crucial question: are you approachable? If the answer is yes, the conversations in which you engage will be initiated with ease and comfort. You make new friends. You create new contacts. And you will not have to suffer through another meeting clamped to the snack table. However, if the answer is no, there won’t be any conversa... More About: Talking

Essential Presentation Skills for Public Speaking
2008-05-14 16:39:00 The following post is from Six Minutes- A Public Speaking and Presentation s Skills Blog- Andrew Dlugan - Research a topic - Good speakers stick to what they know. Great speakers research what they need to convey their message. - Focus - Help your audience grasp your message by focusing on your message. Stories, humour, or other “sidebars” should connect to the core idea. Anything that doesn’t needs to be edited out. - Organize ideas logically - A well-organized presentation can be absorbed with minimal mental strain. Bridging is key. - Employ quotations, facts, and statistics - Don’t include these for the sake of including them, but do use them appropriately to complement your ideas. - Master metaphors - Metaphors enhance the understandability of the message in a way that direct language often can not. - Tell a story - Everyone loves a story. Points wrapped up in a story are more memorable, too! - Start strong and close stronger - The body of your presentation should be stro... More About: Public Speaking

Authors have you been You Tube’d?
2008-05-09 02:18:00 Here’s some more ways to use video clips for authors. 1) Have you been You Tube’d? If you haven’t this is the #1 place to load your book video. 2) Put your video on your own website, don’t let a single visitor land on your site without getting the touch and feel of your book. 3) Send a sample of your book video to every media contact you pitch. Never let a press kit leave your office without a disc. 4) Got a social networking page? If you do (and you should) add the clip or a link to it on the page. 5) When you pitch the media, don’t forget to insert a link to the trailer in your email. Don’t send it as an attachment; chances are an over aggressive spam filter will have it for lunch. 6) Blog about it every chance you get. No, I’m not talking about repeating a blog over and over but blog on what success you’ve had thanks to your video. And oh, yes, add a link to the book video too. 7) Trying to get a signing but have been unsuccessful? Let your book speak for itse... More About: Authors

Here is a short list of info products that you could create which was part of my handout at the Summit. TURN YOUR EXPERTISE INTO PROFITS ➢ Books Published or Self-Published ➢ Mini-Books Smaller versions of your book with cut-down content used as premiums ➢ E-Book- Compile related product information or instructions into an ebook. Make the Most from Your Videos

This past weekend we produced our annual Speakers’ Summit I was able to capture several snippets of the various programs. I will share one of the videos with you in my posts for the next week or so. John Kremer listed tips in his e-zine today about how to use video for marketing. As you will see I am already using the videos I created as he suggested. Below you can see the short video of Jack Barnard who spoke at the Summit on FOUR-PLAY: THE FUN-DAMENTALS for an ORGASMIC PRESENTATION. How I plan to use her video is to post the short video on my product page for the mp3. I also put it on youtube on my speaking channel and on Facebook. Tips oh how to use video 1. Don’t Let Video Pass You By
2008-05-01 06:20:00 Today’s post is from The Publicity Hound’s Tips of the Week- Joan Stewart http://www.PublicityHound.com http://www.publicityhound.net/ (Blog) I totally agree with Joan and we have been encouraging our speakers and authors to create video. At the end of this post you can see a few videos I shoot today at the Women’s Small Business Expo with my new baby - the ultra flip video camera. Stop wasting time trading links with other websites, posting the same how-to article to a gazillion article directory sites, and doing sneaky little things at your own website to try to trick the search engines. Those strategies can actually hurt you. Spend your time instead creating video, one of the most powerful ways to pull traffic to your website or blog. It will boost your position in the search engine rankings and, in some cases, take tons of business away from your competitors. Do it right, and they’ll be so shell-shocked they’ll pack up and go home. During my 70-min... More About: Video , Pass
12 Steps to Creating Your First Info Product
2008-04-29 16:05:00 Susan’s note: As speakers and authors we have unlimited possibilities for creating products. Many speakers make more money from BOR back of the room sales then from their talks. Why? Because people want to take you home with them. For speakers products create passive income that can be repurposed and repackaged for various audiences on and off line. Take a look at some of the products I have created for speakers and authors. Click here to view. It is really quite easy to create products with the advent of the latest technology. For example if you are offering teleclasses you might consider using audioacrobat AudioAcrobat is an audio recording, streaming and hosting service. All of your audio messages are automatically converted into a single of html code that can be uploaded to any Website. Market your Services via Web Videos
2008-04-20 19:35:00 I posted the USA Today article on April 10 about Web Video Market ing Gold. Even though we have been offering one and three camera shoots for many years I see that people are finally getting it. So I been thinking about it alot and wondering how I could integrate more video into my services. I have been following the recommendations of my colleagues who referred the Ultra Flip Video and I ventured off to purchase it at Best Buy along with a tripod. This sweet little videocam (you can hold in your hand) and is so much fun. I have been practicing and learning. Here is my first attempt and mind you no make up. I plan to do some video blogging at the upcoming Speakers’ Summit and it will be the perfect place to do that plus I want to put more video on my website and on my Speaker Services channel on youtube. I have also created an alliance with Michelle Price, a brilliant web 2.0 marketing strategist who will design a plan to build a channel for you on youtube plus get you out on b... More About: Videos
Publicize Via Social Networks
2008-04-14 17:42:00 I have become a big fan of LinkedIn and FaceBook and have been enjoying the benefits of social networking. Look me up on FaceBook or ask me for an invite. I have created several joint ventures, made some great contacts as well as joining some groups on FaceBook. It really is the way to go and it does not cost a penny to join. Today I am including tips on how to publize using social networks by Fern Reiss, CEO PublishingGame.com/Expertizing.com Social networking has become the latest buzz phrase – but what is social networking exactly, and why would you want to get involved in it? The answer is that social networks—Facebook, LinkedIn, Ryze, Bebo, MySpace, etc—are fast becoming a phenomenon worth paying attention to, and are potentially poised to usurp many of the publicity and advertising dollars formerly vested in the more traditional media. In today’s world, you become known by the talks you give and the articles you write. In tomorrow’s world, you’ll be known by your ... More About: Social Networks , Networks
USA Today Says Web Video is Marketing Go

I have been encouraging business folks to get video on their websites. FIVE WAYS AUTHORS CAN PROFIT FROM LINKEDIN
2008-04-08 00:10:00 This post about LinkedIn comes from Mahesh Grossman, President The Authors Team, and Author of Write a Book Without Lifting a Finger. He writes: LinkedIn, the social network for professionals, just changed my life. To be honest, until a few weeks ago, I never took it seriously. From time to time a friend or an acquaintance would ask me to “link” with them, and I would, but I didn’t understand what to do with my network. In fact, I’m not sure I ever invited anyone to link with me. Now I understand some of the power of this tool–and it’s especially useful for authors. So here are five ways you can use LinkedIn to help you write, publish, and promote your book: 1) Ask for help with your content, including Web sites and people to interview. LinkedIn has a feature where you get to ask questions, either of your network or of people in a particular industry. I am working on an e-book that will be a list of a particular group of sites. I asked the ... More About: Profit , Linkedin

Grow Your List with an Effective Client-Capturing Device
2008-04-06 06:09:00 by Donna Gunter You may have heard the saying that “the gold is in your list” for your online business. I’ve found that to be the case, despite any number of social marketing techniques like blogging, MySpace, etc. It’s always extremely helpful to have a list of people to whom you can market. How do you develop that list and keep adding people to it? You create a client-capturing device. A client-capturing device is a free giveaway that is of value to your target market and serves as a solution to a big problem that challenges your target market. Once upon a time, the offer for a free ezine was sufficient to capture a visitor’s contact info. Alas, that is no longer the case, so you have to up the ante and provide even greater value to your visitor. Your client capturing device can take any of several formats — an ebook, a recording of a teleclass, a 6- part ecourse, a short downloadable video. Here is a list of 8 qualities that your free giveaway... More About: List , Device , Effective , Grow , Client
Speak to Sell: 3 Ways to Convert Audiences Members Into Clients
2008-04-04 18:25:00 By Vickie K. Sullivan, Contributing Editor for Rain Today You’ve hit a homerun with a recent speech. The audience was perfect, filled with high-level prospects who have the authority (and the budget) to hire you. Your talk was met with rave reviews and you got an outstanding recommendation letter from the host organization. But now, it’s 90 days later, and you didn’t get the business you expected. What happened? As speaking moves beyond generating credibility and into lead generation, the next big question is: How can we convert a larger portion of the audience from observers to clients? This conversion happens with a consistent but subtle adjustment of perception. Understand that the audience is not attending your program thinking of ways to hire you. Create that connection during the presentation by planting “seeds” that give them the idea to approach you. Experts who answer those below-the-surface questions create ingrained opinions that drive initi... More About: Clients , Speak , Sell , Convert , Members
Publicity Plan should Target Blogs and Ezines
2008-04-02 00:01:00 Joan Stewart, the Publicity Hound wrote this post in her blog and there is a ton of information here not to be missed. Don’t miss this critical step when creating your publicity plan. Start adding bloggers and editors of electronic newsletters (ezines) to the list of people who you will contact if you want publicity. If you’re a publicist, and your PR client is adamant about getting coverage in top-tier media like USA Today, The New York Times, O magazine and on big shows like “Today” and “Fox & Friends,” take the time to explain that your client must also get in front of the thousands of people who don’t read those newspapers or watch those shows and prefer, instead, to receive their information online. One of the big advantages of pitching bloggers and ezine editors is that unlike traditional media, the information you provide has a way of spreading online rather quickly. If it shows up in an ezine, and that ezine is archived, people will be able to find it month... More About: Blogs , Target , Ezines , Plan

Data Dump Before You Speak
2008-03-19 17:46:00 One of the biggest mistakes speakers make is offering too much information in their programs. Somehow speakers seem to think that they have to give more then less so that their audience will get it! Check out the video below that TJ Walker did on Data Dump Before You Speak . Another thing happens too-the presenters forget to involve the audience and when the audience is not involved what happens? They tune out. Here are a few suggestions for organizing your presentation: - In an hour talk have 3 to 4 points - Support your points by telling stories that the audience can relate too - Involve the audience by asking questions and don’t forget to repeat their answers so everyone can hear them - Create a simple partner exercise that supports your point and don’t forget to ask a few folks what their experience was and don’t forget to repeat their answers There is much to learn about organizing your presentations. And if that is not enough you also need to connect, have con...
Creating a Powerful Video
2008-03-19 00:28:00 Creating a Powerful Video an Article for Professional Speakers by Patricia Fripp, CSP, CPAE http://www.fripp.com When you’re a professional speaker your video is your most important selling tool. It’s hard to imagine any speaker who wouldn’t be even more successful with a “best-selling” video. I talked to Mark French, President of Leading Authorities, Inc., for his inside insights into what makes a great video. Here’s what he told me. What You Want to Do 1. Grab attention quickly. Meeting planners have very little time. They view tapes so they can quickly qualify or disqualify a potential speaker. If your tape doesn’t engage viewers in the first minute, their fingers will hit the eject button. 2. Make yourself the obvious choice over the competition. Your tape must answer the question, “Why should I book this speaker instead of someone else?” The tape must establish your credentials and provide a compelling case for why you ar... This post written by Greg Roy explains the various ways that we can all benefit from webinars. As more businesses look for creative ways to reach new customers as well as cut costs of communicating, the subject of webinars often comes up. What is a webinar, and what benefits can it generate for a company? To answer the question of “what is a webinar?” one need only look to a resource that has become common to businesses of all sizes during the pa... More About: Webinar
Don’t Call it an Ebook!
2008-03-09 17:02:00 Today’s post is from Marcia Yudkin Terminology greatly affects how people perceive value. Call something a “brochure” and no one will want to pay for it. Call it a “booklet” and it sounds small and insignificant, perhaps worth up to four or five dollars. Call your digital document an “ebook” and people instinctively compare it to tangible books and will pay no more than what they’d pay for something they can pick up at the bookstore. Indeed, according to Angela Adair-Hoy, co-owner of Booklocker.com, the magical price point for ebooks is just $8.95. Consider these alternatives. “Special report.” In the business world, people will spend much more money for timely business information or instruction when it’s called a “special report” than for an “e-book.” A dollar per page is not unusual — $4.00 or $5.00 for four pages, $97 for 90 to 100 pages. My research turned up many even higher price... More About: Ebook
The 7 Most Common Marketing Mistakes Speakers Make
2008-03-07 17:58:00 Today’s blog is contributed by Misty Williams. She makes valid points which I can relate to as a marketing consultant myself. Marketing your business can be both an exciting and scary endeavor, even for those of us that have been doing it for a while. A few wrong moves can hinder your best efforts. Consider the most common mistakes speakers and independent professionals make when trying to grow their careers: Spending time and money on marketing tools before establishing a business development strategy. I can’t count the number of times I’ve seen people throw money at “marketing solutions” in an effort to save their businesses, only to realize too late that slick brochures, a Flash website and company letterhead won’t grow their business. Successful speakers and professionals provide valuable services to people that need them. If you aren’t clear about what you offer—and to whom—and you haven’t discerned the best strategies for reaching those customers, your ... More About: Speakers , Common , Make

More articles from this author:2008-03-04 19:15:00 Today’s post comes from Larry Chase’s Web Digest for Marketers http://www.wdfm.com 1. Focus on Delivering More and More Value: In this day of email deluge, you can not do the “same ol’ same ol’” and expect to improve or even maintain your results. Customers and potential customers are going through a revolution of rising expectations. They demand extreme value from email communications, so add more value to yours with new ideas. First of all, follow your competition and make sure you are delivering more value than they do. One tactic this editor uses is “just in time” education, whereby instead of just saying “buy this”, I give detailed background about the item and why it is an absolute essential. I suggest other items that work with it, even if those items are not for sale on our site. This creates more of a content context for our subscribers and adds great value, which means they are more likely to open our emails and s...
