Weekly Review Review
2007-07-27 17:00:00
John Lampard over at Disassociated.com wrote a nice little blurb about the site in a links post. His site has a cool design. It seems to be about whatever’s on his mind. I guess I should keep reminding my readers that every week I do a “Review Review” where I review the reviews of this site that caught my eye. To get your site featured in a post, just write a review of this site where you praise it or bash it…and if it’s interesting I’ll write about it. ---Related Articles at One Year Goal .com:Review MeWeekly Review ReviewLast Review Review of the WeekReview Review SupplementHow to Make Money with Affiliate Programs
Money Online Bootcamp
2007-07-26 22:00:00
I recently heard about a “Thirty Day Challenge” site that tries to help you make $10 online in just one month. To be honest with you, I believe my readers deserve better. I’m curious whether anyone would be interested in a boot camp that helps  you make ten times as much in just 30 days. If I get enough interest, that will be my next project after OYG Ads. ---Related Articles at One Year Goal .com:What makes this blog different? How I Will Make Money Rich Jerk or Blogging to the Bank?AboutCracking the GMAT

Week 3 Goal Check
2007-07-25 23:16:00
The time has come. It’s time for you to know what I earned this week. This week I earned more than both of the previous weeks combined…and then some Traffic The traffic is for OneYearGoal .com only since A Man’s Man is still being established… Visits: 3,809  Absolute Unique Visitors: 3,265 Pageviews: 6,846 Avg. Time on Site: 6:01 Money This is for both sites, not just OneYearGoal.com, since I’m counting the money from all businesses I start towards the goal. Kontera - $2.12 (I might remove this…is it worth the decrease is readability?) Adsense - $9.19 Fireboard - $36.90 Affiliate Programs - $280 So the grand total is…$328.21. Not bad for a week of work considering it’s the third week of operations. But I need to start ramping it up to hit my goal. My goals moving forward are: Find more affiliate programs I strongly believe in. Due: Monday. Finish making OYG Ads so I can distribute the Fireboard to any blogger who wants it&hell...

The Thing About Multiple Blogs…
2007-07-25 12:53:00
I’ve learned a valuable lesson with the launch of A Man’s Man: launching multiple blogs is tough. I already write about 3-4 posts a day on OneYearGoal.com. In addition I spend hours reading other blogs and promoting the site. So what’s the extra post or two a day that A Man’s Man costs? A lot. I have to reach and comment on entirely separate blogs. The subject matter of the posts is completely different. I have to build up traffic all over again. Am I upset? No, that’s the price of success. But I won’t be launching any new blogs any time soon. The best online business is one that requires a substantial initial investment, but that you can soon put on auto-pilot. One blog is nice. Two is great. But if you write for an entire network, you’ll find yourself a slave to your blogs instead of financially independent. That’s not the goal. Keep an eye out for the Fireboard beta launch. I’m aiming at this Sunday but it might drag into ne...

Day 2 of A Man’s Man
2007-07-24 22:33:00
It’s day two of A Man ’s Man being online and things are already getting wild. Chris Bloczynski dot Com bought a Fireboard link for $10, and another party purchased one as well. I’ve gotten four interesting articles up, and more are on the way. Traffic is picking up (although it hasn’t reached OneYearGoal.com proportions…yet A Man’s Man is like GQ, but written by one man who isn’t metrosexual. So it’s not too similar to GQ. But it’s got the best of the best advice, news, and entertainment for men. I highly recommend you check it out. ---Related Articles at One Year Goal .com:A Man’s Man Killed Casanova!A Man’s Man ContentPick the A Man’s Man HeaderA Man’s Man LaunchA Man’s Man
How to Make Money with Affiliate Programs
2007-07-24 19:21:00
Affiliate programs are a blogger’s best friend. I repeat: affiliate programs are a blogger’s best friend. If you do not utilize affiliate programs on your blog, you’re missing out. Why I Love Affiliate Programs Affiliate programs encourage you to try new products. Affiliate programs allow you to monetize your blog…even on opening day! Affiliate programs pay generous commissions rather than the bare minimum per click they can get by on. How to Take Advantage Choose a Product or Service You Love (or Dislike): There has to be some product you love on the internet. Maybe it’s your web host, maybe it’s an eBook you read. If you can’t think of any, try one. If that fails, choose one you dislike. Write an Honest Review: Make sure that whatever you write, it’s true. In my first affiliate review I made the mistake of trying to puff up a book that honestly lacked both sizzle and substance. It came out in my review, and my readers smelled it...

OYG Ads Beta
2007-07-24 12:15:00
Exactly one week ago I developed a little script called the Fireboard. Since then you’ve repeatedly asked when it would be released to the public. The answer is: soon. My newest project (on top of running this blog, running A Man’s Man, getting the dating guide written, and working a full time job) is OYG Ads (pronounced “Oh Why Gee! Ads”). Take a wild guess at what the flag ship advertising product will be (hint: it’s not the next Adsense I’m looking for some beta testers who are interested in making money with the Fireboard plugin on their site. I still haven’t finished building the network version yet, but I expect to have a beta ready by Sunday. I know it wouldn’t interest you, but if you have a friend who’s interested in becoming a beta tester (and making some money in the process), visit OYG Ads now and sign up to the announcement list. Every blog deserves it, and so does yours. Get the Fireboard edge. Questions for My Re...

Death Threat
2007-07-23 18:57:00
I just received the following death threat in my comment moderation queue: info@oneyeargoal.com | info@oneyeargoal.com | oneyeargoal.com | IP: 24.19.45.97 DIE Jul 23, 9:48 AM Obviously I’m a bit concerned. This is my first major blog, and I’m wondering: is this normal when a blog hits a certain size, or should I call the police? The same person left a comment that I deleted as spam a few minutes before saying “go f*** yourself”. They were kind enough to leave a (wrong) email at my domain as the contact info, but fortunately they left their IP address which police can use to track them. Let me know what you think. Top 5 Ways to Monetize a New Blog
2007-07-23 12:41:00
The hardest thing when you’re starting out is monetizing your blog. Review sites won’t approve you up because your blog is too young. Advertisers are hesitant to buy direct ads for the same reason. So the question is, how do you monetize? From least effective to most effective, here’s the list: 5. Begging Ever seen the “Buy me a beer” plugin? I’m guilty of having used it myself. Even some of the biggest bloggers online use it. There are dozens of plugins that help you hit your readers up for money. But I personally find that they’re not very effective. The sites that have had success tend to be established ones that recognize their “beer buyers”. It’s just another from of direct ad sales. 4. Direct Ad Sales Are also not very good for a new blog, though I recommend you still offer them just in case. As your blog grows they will allow you to sell ads without losing the 50% commission Text Link Ads charges. 3. Kontera Konter...

Well, I had two logo questions in the air, but it looks like booth have been resolved. First of all, congratulations to Jason at thoughtsponge.com. He designed a great “Terribly Funny” logo that took first place! As a result, I’ll be featuring a link to his site for a month beginning today (and if he reminds me I’ll link to it from Terribly Funny when it launches). Second of all it looks like Blink-Blink Martini Time won the A Man’s Man logo poll by a landslide. Pick the A Man’s Man Header
2007-07-22 08:52:00
I’m getting ready to launch A Man ’s Man, a blog for men, on Monday. But first, I need to pick a header. I know, I know, the orange falling into water header is great, but I was thinking something a little more related to the blog. Here are the three that caught my eye: Blink-Blink Martini Time Martini Time Martini Time (2) Surprisingly I’m actually not an alcoholic. But I like the style of those images. Cast your vote now! Earlier this week I set five goals for the weekend: Find someone to help me finish the dating book (I’ve outlined, I’ve started it, but it’s my first book. It needs to turn out well and I’m not an expert.) Launch “Terribly Funny“- A site featuring everything humorous online. Hosting Update

To those of you who signed up for AN Hosting , congratulations. I’ve been testing it out for a while now, and I personally couldn’t be more pleased. The A Man’s Man blog is so quick and responsive it’s not even funny. And the fact that customer support is available 24/7 is a huge relief. I was able to install Wordpress with the click of a button using Fantastico, and I set up as many email addresses as I wanted at no extra charge. I’m sorry to blog about the same service provider twice, but I really couldn’t be more satisfied with the quality and value AN Hosting provides. If you haven’t already moved your free host blog (such as blogger.com or wordpress.com) to a professional host, or if your host is as disappointing as mine, a strongly encourage you to join me at AN Hosting. It even comes with a free domain, and at $6.95 you spend more money on soda than you will on this. Also, don’t forget to use the coupon code SAVINGCENTER-93818 t...

Why ask your readers for favors?
2007-07-21 00:43:00
I am completely against asking my readers for handouts. For a while I had a cutesy “buy me a beer” link, but honestly even that was a bit much, so I removed it. But as you may have noticed I ask my readers for help with logos, reviews, and themes more and more. Why? Time Management - The bigger this blog gets and the more businesses I tackle, the less time I have to search for the perfect Wordpress theme. If other people are willing to help me out, why add that to my workload? Interactivity - Blogs have comments in order to encourage readers to participate. Asking readers to help you build your blog or achieve your goal is much more interactive than asking them to merely type a few words. Loyalty - If someone helps you pick the theme for a new site, what are the chances he won’t want to visit it? Or recommend it to friends? When somebody invests effort, they tend to (rightfully) be proud of it. Good Will - I tend to link to people who help me out. It’s a ni...

A Man’s Man Killed Casanova!
2007-07-20 20:15:00
Newsflash: Reports indicate that A Man ’s Man, One Year Goal’s newest blog idea, has killed the “I am Casanova ” site and dating book. While A Man’s Man denied all charges, witnesses say One Man decided A Man’s Man should replace Casanova as his next big idea. Of course One Man denies any link to the killing, and expresses his condolences to those close to Casanova. To Put It Simply: I’m going to build up A Man’s Man and let Casanova slide. Once A Man’s Man gains enough traffic, I’ll develop the dating book under that brand. I Need Your Help: You can view the current theme of A Man’s Man by clicking on the links provided. I think A Man’s Man deserves better than the current theme. So please, scour the web for free themes and post them as comments here. I’ll thank (and link back to) the person who finds the best theme in a post very soon. To get a sense of what a man’s man is, read the post containing ...

Steve’s Tech Blog is a blog about technology, entertainment, and making money online. Steve wrote a very kind review about Fire Board. He mentioned a bug in the plugin that I corrected. In addition, he was kind enough not to request a refund once the bug was fixed. Apologies
2007-07-20 17:56:00
Sorry for the technical difficulties. I had a <dic> tag in a post instead of a <div> tag. Apparently that mistake is enough to cripple the blog. Also, I apologize to  Steve’s Tech Blog (who is currently advertising in the Fire Board.) He generously contributed $5 on the Fire Board, but due to a mistake on my part it didn’t show up. I fixed a small bug last night and forgot to test the plugin afterwards. Apparently my code was missing a parenthesis (”)”), which crippled the update system. Everything is fixed and tested now, so feel free to keep boarding! ---Related Articles at One Year Goal .com:No related posts

Nice4Rice wrote an excellent review of the Fire Board Plugin. Honestly, he explains the concept even better than I do. I’m a little embarrassed. But if you’re interested in advertising on the Fire Board and aren’t quite sure how to use it, I recommend you read his post. He also wrote that he thinks I will charge you to use it when its released: My goal is to start a marketplace that doesn’t cost blog owners anything out of pocket. The issue is taxes - I’ve noticed many marketplaces ask for your social security number when you sign up. I need to speak to a lawyer about what dealings I’ll have to have with the IRS if I start a marketplace, and how best to proceed. Mike Mahon wrote a brief review. He was kind enough to compliment my effort and hustle, but is still on the fence about my site. ---Related Articles at One Year Goal .com:Weekly Review ReviewReview MeLast Review Review of the WeekHow to Make Money with Affiliate ProgramsAdvertise

Weekly Review Review
2007-07-20 12:39:00
No, the title isn’t a typo. As I mentioned in the Review Me post, I’ve decided to start reviewing sites that review me (and catch my eye.) It’s my way of sharing link love. There’s A Blog In My Soup is a “The Secret” inspired blog that the author hopes will help him reach financial independence. Hwrote a great review of my Fire Board Plugin. In addition he outlined some of his favorite posts. I don’t really have much of a response to him except to say “Thanks and Good Luck” Dan Blogs is a blog about…well…whatever Dan Blogs about. Fortunately he decided to blog about One Year Goal.com and made a great observation about my blog: the ads are a little intrusive. At first I was a little offended because I thought he was implying this is an ad-centric blog. But after reviewing other sites on the net I understand why he felt that the ads appear to be excessive. So I’m removing the vertical Adsense pillar in the side...

A Man’s Man
2007-07-19 23:50:00
I’ve added another task to what needs to be done by Monday. I’m going to launch a site for guys call “A Man ’s Man“. Who is the Man’s Man? He’s the real class act. He always shaves and wears clothes that fit. He’s worldly, educated, and a gentleman. He thinks that buttoned shirts are not just for special occasions and that newspapers have more than one section. While he is polite, he is not a pushover. He will swear when he needs to, but will try to control his temper. He can handle his liquor and keeps himself in shape. Most importantly, he will admit his faults and errors, because that is what real men do. He don’t have to be gay or straight, black or white, Republic or Democrat, Athiest or Evangelical; he just does what ever he thinks makes himself a good person that he can be proud of. For these reasons, women want him and men want to be him. -Urban Dictionary Instead of focusing on dating which I planned to do with “I...

Good Hosting
2007-07-19 12:44:00
This post is especially important for all my readers using free hosts such as Blogger.com. This is your way out for less than the price of sandwich. Good hosting is crucial to success as a web entrepreneur. Downtime, poor customer service, and high prices can all stifle a blog’s growth. Don’t even get me started on free hosting services. Recently I discovered my host’s poor service when a poorly written Wordpress plugin deleted my website. My host offered to help me recover the files I lost…if I was willing to pay $150. Needless to say I’m ready to jump ship. But the question is “Where should I go?” The Solution AN Hosting is a company that I’m very excited about. They have one of the best deals I’ve seen in hosting and 24/7 phone and email support. Oh, and you can back up your files day or night, any time you want. They didn’t ask me to advertise their service, I found them. And I’m glad I did. So what do they have ...

How I Will Make Money
2007-07-17 21:02:00
A reader recently asked how I plan to make money. Do I plan to milk this blog for all its worth? Do I plan to branch out into other online businesses? The answer is Yes. This blog will be a gold mine not only because of the advertising revenue it brings in, but because of the lessons I learn and teach as I grow it. In addition to this blog, I have the following projects in the pipeline. Casanova Dating Book Releasing the Fire Board Wordpress plugin (see Get a Prime Placement Text Link for Just $1) Writing both a free (beginners) and paid (advanced) book on how to make money blogging. Creating an online personal GMAT review course to help others succeed on Business School’s most important test. Whatever other ideas my magnificent readers suggest I pursue. My goal is not to make $100,000 by making a blog about making $100,000. My goal is to make $100,000 and earn some of that money teaching others how to do the same thing.
