2007-05-31 23:10:00 A number of fast-food chains are looking to get a slice of the pizza business. The US pizza market is estimated at $30 billion a year. That’s a lot of dough!. Now, Domino’s, Pizza Hut and Papa John’s are getting some competition from some unlikely sources. According to Brandweek Pizza is coming to Subway. The largest restaurant franchise in the country will add thick-crust style personal pizza to the menu at 13,000 U.S. stores. The introduction will place even more heat on Pizza Hut and Domino’s Pizza, both of which saw sales cool off in 2006. Business Week reports that Panera Bread is offering is a pizza-like, thin-crust item it calls Crispani. Associated Content reported that a Dunkin’ Donuts store in Hartford, Conn., is one of 10 units in the United States testing personal pizzas. The made-to-order pizzas cost $1.95 to $3.49 each and are baked in a countertop oven.
