Internet Down
2008-02-01 06:00:00 As most of you may know that since Thursday more than 60% of Internet bandwidth in India has snapped due to damage in under-sea cables. I did not have Internet for last couple of days, but today it seems to have come up, but with terrible speeds. It could take up to a week before Internet connectivity returns to normal. During this time, Trak.in may see less number of posts (depending on Internet connection). More About: Blogging
Indian Stock Market Manipulation ? A Myth or a reality?
2008-01-30 18:21:00 The Indian stock markets crashed on Monday and Tuesday resulting in a blood bath of sorts on Dalal Street with investors losing crores of Rupees. The reasons for the crash can be attributed to global factors such as the sub-prime crisis, coupled with large offerings in the primary market and a feeling that a correction on the market was long overdue. However a less known and less spoken fact about the market is the rampant manipulation of stock prices. More About: Reality , Stock Market , Market , Investment

Popular Marlboro Brand to be manufactured, sold in India
2008-01-28 16:23:00 Even today Marlboro packets are available with most paanwallahs in India , but most of it is imported from other countries increasing the cost due to import levies. Another problem is that there is high amount of duplication that takes place. Ask any Marlboro smoker and he will tell you that original Marlboro is available only at selected places. However, Marlboro smokers will very soon be able to enjoy their favourite brand without cost and duplication worries. US tobacco giant Philip Morris International is in talks with its Indian joint-venture partner Godfrey Philips India to manufacture and sell its Marlboro cigarette brand. Bloodbath in Indian Stock Markets
2008-01-22 13:49:00 Monday saw biggest fall in the history of Indian stock market. The fall was so unexpected and harsh, investors just could not digest it. In Mumbai, a huge number of ambulances were pressed into service between brokers? offices and nearby hospitals to reach persons complaining of chest pain or uneasiness. Doctors in hospitals across the city were hard-pressed to examine the increasing number of patients being brought in with chest complaints and related illnesses. The ICUs of almost all city hospitals were full. ECG machines in several hospitals reported to have failed as the volatile signals were too high to measure. According to unconfirmed reports, hospitals have placed orders for large number of new equipment to meet the massive demand. Fire fighters had a tough time in various parts of the city trying to bring down people from the terraces of high-rise buildings as they threatened to jump to their death having lost all their savings to the market crash. Brand Building is definitely an exercise
2008-01-22 12:35:00 Brand Building over the new media is just an emphasis or a new route to the traditional media which means ?Give customers what they want?. The business means the same today, as it was yesterday. However with the rising trends like Competition, Globalization and Virtualization, the options to reach consumers are broadened. The simple steps to build a brand are to fulfil the requirement of the end users, relentless attention to make such brands and the third step that follows the two which is consumers become part of the marketing and sales force (Word of Mouth). Engaging customers in a way that value deliverance is the embedded keyword behind your core strategy is a concern, however leveraging customers' value acceptance is given more priority More About: Business , Exercise , Trends , Doing business
Yahoo?s new Ad solution targets user behaviour, hopes to increase click thr
2008-01-21 16:12:00 Now, I feel this is a serious threat to user's privacy. Even though the Yahoo ! officials have assured that they follow strict privacy policy, a normal user will be quite uncomfortable knowing that everything he/ she does is tracked and stored ! I am okay with search words stored anonymously, but here Yahoo! not only tracks activities, but stores it as a user profile. Even Google stores searches done, however, user has the facility to stop storing these results. Also, I am not sure if google keeps the track of which user has searched for what ! Even with all this, I fail to understand how Yahoo! will know what banner ads user has clicked (unless they are Yahoo's own ads ) and which microsites they have visited. proto.in : A haven for Indian Entrepreneurs
2008-01-21 14:52:00 Presenting your startup to investors in under 6 minutes is harder that one would imagine. A startup about which you have so much to speak about and you get just 6 minutes to make an impression, it is a very very difficult task. The mentoring session was all about letting the startups know what to present and how to present it (in under 6 minutes). One of the main problems that we (startups) faced was while we were in the mentoring sessions, there were some great talks on technology and business tracks. Speakers like Samir Sood (M&A head, Google), Atul Chitnis (GeoDesic), Laura Perkin (NEN) and Suroji Niyogi (Appizer) gave some very informative and interesting presentations. India?s most liked personalities
2008-01-08 13:08:00 Web Dunia is currently running a poll on their Hindi portal to decide on the most liked India n personalities in Politics, Bollywood sports and other arenas. I was going to the current results of the survey and some of results were quite interesting. One of the question "Who is the most liked Political leader of India" has some interesting results. Narendra Modi is leading with more than 33% votes and the second most beloved Indian Political leader is Mr. Lalu Prasad Yadav! What ever may be his antics, he seems to be quite popular with Indian Junta. I have never been too fond of Laluji for obvious reasons, but he sure is doing a good job with Indian Railways and his popularity seems to be skyrocketing. More About: Personalities

Remember this before sending a press release!
2008-01-07 15:36:00 One of the frustrating things I have been facing since last couple of months is the number of irrelevant press releases and announcements that come my way in expectation that I write it on my blog. Don't take me wrong, I would love to have relevant information, infact, like most of the bloggers, I am always on the look-out for stuff that I could feature on this blog and thats why I have contact forms in 2 different places for ease of use. What is even more annoying is most of the releases are cut and paste and sometimes they don't even remember to change the name of earlier site that they have mailed the release to. Here are a few generic points to remember before you send a Press release/ announcement More About: Press Release , Release , Sending
7 things to know before you present your startup to VCs ?
2008-01-05 12:39:00 I had a fortune of spending some time with one of the Pune based VCs last week. During our small 15 minute discussion, I got a glimpse into what VCs think, especially while making a decision on funding a startup. Here are top 7 things you should remember while pitching to potential VCs: Be ready with your Product This by far seems to be the most important aspect that VCs see while making a decision - At what stage of development is the product or service. However good your idea may be, very few VCs will be interested in it. Unless and until you have a working product (even if it is prototype), your chances of getting funding diminish drastically.
