Pure genius…
2007-09-14 23:35:00
Soon after I arrived to my flat at Warwick I started looking for a network plug (supposedly available in every room). Nothing close to an RJ45 wallplate near the desk, no sign all around me… hmm no wifi signals… hmm… as I was looking at the pillow I just noticed something hidden behind the bed… and there it was… pure genius! I hope next time they are not going to hide it below the carpet…

Tomorrow I am flying to Birmingham for my yearly September Seminar at Warwick Business School . I will be staying for more than a week in a flat inside the campus. This year I will be lectured on Strategy as Practice, Management of Change and Marketing Strategy. Hopefully this will prepare me for my exam session in early December

Seven wonders of the IT world
2007-09-11 10:32:00
C.G. Lynch of CIO Magazine has published an interesting article illustrating the “Seven wonders of the IT world“. I know it sounds nerdish, but I thought that some of them were actually pretty exotic with names like “the computer farthest from Earth” or “world’s most intriguing data center”(!!) even romantic ones such as the “web cam closest to the north pole”… Have a look, you can also vote for the 8th wonder…

Restaurant on rails
2007-09-09 20:51:00
Few days ago I read about the launch of a new restaurant in Nuremberg called `s Baggers. The news is interesting because inside this restaurant there are no waiters: - orders are taken via touchscreen LCDs placed on top of tables (customers can also use them to pay with credit card). - distribution of food and beverages is based on an ingenious use of rails that travel all around the rooms. - the only “human” personnel is in the kitchen preparing the food. `s Baggers has really tried to make a classic service such as restaurats more structured, tangible and hopefully less variable. One could ask why fast food chains, such as McDonald’s, always ready to serialize processes have not thought about it yet. My answer is that a service cannot exist without the human component, a service should be shared between users as well as producers. A service transformed in a shop floor may be a curiosity to be tried, but I do not see how this business could be more than a fad.
