Sharing for personal growth and development
2008-04-30 03:19:00
Didn?t your Mama teach you to share? (photo courtesy of andrew mc d) Sharing is easy while we?re children because we want everyone to enjoy the pleasures that we enjoy. Somewhere along about junior high school, that all changes. We start to exclude others while someone else sees fit to exclude us. We start to form ...

Three reasons why we never reach our potential level of success
2008-03-13 11:02:00
1. We deny that we have any potential (photo by LabGP & SigOther?s) No one expects you to do anything that you are not capable of. Right? Just convince everyone that you are currently performing at your maximum level of ability. After you?ve done that, you just coast. The problem is that maintaining this ...

How to be happy - four principles that help me stay focused
2008-03-05 16:08:00

Don’t allow negative thinking to stop you
2008-02-23 18:17:00
(photo courtesy of Madeira)   NO! It’s a word that we all hate to hear. In fact we hate it so much that we will usually avoid putting ourselves into a position of having to hear this negative response. The result? We don’t ask for a raise. We don’t ask the pretty girl for a date. We don’t close the sale. We don’t ask a possible mentor for his/her help. We don’t get what we want. The Problem of “No” We are in the habit of taking a negative response (“NO”) personally and therefore, we tend to imagine all the the possible motivations behind the respondent’s answer. For example: 1. We didn’t get the raise, so we immediately begin to imagine all the possible causes: The Boss doesn’t like me. The Boss is a jerk. The Boss thinks that I am inept. The Boss doesn’t respect me nor my efforts. Please notice that I wrote “imagine” all the possible causes. Our minds go to work trying to explain why we did not get what we want. The reality may be, and...

soupornuts’ reasons to click - #9
2008-02-03 05:37:00
This series of articles started out strong, but I seemed to have lost my way. In reality, life is very busy for me right now: my wife and I are expecting out third child – any day now my two daughters got a pony for Christmas and they want to ride all the time the Rotater has become a locomotive barreling down the track – sometimes it’s all I can do to hang on Excuses, excuses, excuses Those are only excuses and I’m not big on passing blame. My plan was to become more regular in my posting schedule this year and I would like to post a new article at least every other day – so far, I am a little behind on my agenda. Reasons to click series This series of posts that featured great stuff (articles, posts, sites, etc. that I liked) was shaping up to be very popular. Many readers wrote and told me how much they enjoyed the info, so I am resuming it today. 1. Awaken the Giant Procratinator Within! Al has written an enlightening article endorsing the idea that procrastinat...

High income potential in a field in which you are already an expert - SALES
2008-01-19 00:10:00
High Income Potential Have you ever thought of trying to make your living by selling? If you are very good, your income potential is unlimited. But, you must have thick skin. That means that you must have little or no fear of failure and you must be able to absorb rejection without taking it personally. Everyone is a salesman Few realize it, but everyone is a salesperson. That’s right. Everybody is selling something. Does that sound like a broad statement to you? It is a fact that is so obvious we tend to overlook it. Want proof? Consider these examples: A suitor tries to sell himself and his attributes to his potential bride. A wife sells her husband on the idea of taking a Disney vacation before the children become too old and are no longer impressed by the magic. A teen tries to sell his/her parents on the idea of going to a party that “all the kids are going to.” A teacher sells his/her students on the need to and the joys of learning. Bosses sell increased production, hi...

Mama’s commonsense approach to excellent interpersonal skills
2008-01-15 23:40:00
Life is about interaction. With rare exception, everyone interacts on a daily basis. You deal with your family, bosses, subordinates, customers (clients, patients, readers, etc), coworkers, friends, enemies, strangers and more everyday. How would you characterize these exchanges? Do you enjoy interacting with others? Do they enjoy interacting with you? Here are a few ideas that I feel (and my Mama taught) are common sense solutions for many of the problems that we face when dealing with others. 1. Smile at everyone. This is easy enough to do physically, but we have problems with the mental part. Why should I smile? I don’t feel like smiling. Smiling causes others to relax. In a potentially tense situation, your smile may lower everyones blood pressure enough so that problems can be handled rationally. Your smile may even allow your message to be more easily received. Think of how you brace yourself when someone approaches you with a scowl on their face. Are you relaxed or are you...

Are you a ?great? thinker?
2007-12-29 01:13:00
There is a constant conversation within our minds, yet we seldom take the time to consider how great an impact it has on our lives.
