Dell's CFO resigns
2008-05-19 19:50:00 Donald J. Carty, who was just hired as chief financial officer of Dell, will be resigning in June and will be replaced by longtime General Electric executive Brian T. Gladden. Mr. Gladden stated that he was excited to be joining Dell at a time of transformation, and considering the $700,000 annual base salary along with the $2 million signing bonus (amongst other monetary perks), we highly doubt he's fibbing. It should be noted that the Round Rock powerhouse will keep Carty on its board, and that he actually indicated several months ago that he wanted to retire as CFO. source : CNET

US jobless rate falls
2008-05-02 11:26:00 US jobless rate falls. Yes, you heard it right! US unemployment rate dropped to 5 percent according to US Labor Department. Ain't bad though. Recently, we've been hearing a lot of job hiring freeze, companies cutting bonuses and retrenchment by various big companies, but this news came very surprising to most jobseekers and curious followers. According to reports, for the fourth month in a row, the economy lost jobs, the Labor Department reported Friday. But in April the losses totaled 20,000, an improvement from the 81,000 reductions in payrolls logged in March. Job losses for both February and March turned out to be a bit deeper than previously reported. This might be ironic or unconvincing to everyone, but this news surely gave hope to everyone that America is really coping up. More About: Breaking News , Rate , Falls

2008-04-24 20:00:00 This is a guest post by Pradeep Mahesh (Maheshwari) (http://www.ryze.com/go/Lifepragmatic) from New Delhi, India. We start a business or take up a job with the full intention of succeeding in our endeavor. Yet we manage to fail in many of our undertakings. Is it possible that we are ourselves to blame and the fault is in the self-sabotage that we may be practicing? It sounds ludicrous but we may be doing exactly that – albeit unknowingly. In case you are the boss; in whichever capacity that maybe, begin with the question “Am I stifling my junior? Am I always there, looking over his shoulder and catching his each and very mistake before he makes them?”. It does not require a very great intelligence to see that if the answer to these questions comes in a “yes”, the sabotage situation would be obvious. Why? The employee would become a nervous wreck to begin with and be constantly afraid. He would rather wait for the boss to take over and stop using his in... More About: Sabotage

Do you need a leader or a manager?

We have all witnessed people in and promoted to positions in which they are just not a fit. Personally I have been “managed” or should I say victimized by this more then once in previous jobs. Years ago I worked for an IT company. My boss was a programmer and a really great guy. I was hired to develop and manage a few processes. (Of course, recruitment was one.) I quickly fell into leading several departments. My boss made sure we had the processes and I made sure the team was supported and processes were implemented. My boss would come in the middle of the night to reboot a server and end up writing code for 10 hours without a thought. Ask him to handle an employee issue and he would hide in his office until I settled it. It worked out beautifully for both of us. Our ... More About: Manager , Leader

What makes an employee affordable and how can you be the website designer making $100 an hour? Employers: A website designer's affordability is not, as you might think, 100% proportional to the hourly rate. In a world where the saying, Time is Money has never been more true, the hourly rate you pay can be justified with numerous variables, with the most important one being TIME. ARE YOU A “STUCKEE” JOB SEEKER?
2008-03-09 18:47:00 Article Title: Are You A Stuckee Job Seeker? Author Byline: Marilyn J. Tellez, M.A. Author Website: http://doitnowcareercoach.info ARE YOU A “STUCKEE” JOB SEEKER? I work with job seekers who are “stuckees” My definition of a “stuckee” is a person who does not take action on their own behalf, especially in looking for a job. The first or second job interview rejection shuts them down. Poor self-esteem is one of the causes of giving up. Job seeking is a game where new or returning job seekers don’t know the rules. The rules they do know are answering ads, sending out resumes, waiting for the phone to ring, etc. “Stuck” becomes comfortable and safe. One of the cures for a “stuckee” is to have a group of people around them that are accepting of them, no matter what. Supportive people provide hope, support and comfort. And, how does a “stuckee” keep going in the face of many rejections? One way...

EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE IN ACTION
2008-03-03 01:04:00 This is a guest post by Pradeep Mahesh (Maheshwari) from New Delhi, India. EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE IN ACTION The display of the right mood to match the situation is an art that has to be first understood and then learnt. It is a very potent tool of management. Generally speaking, this is an art, which we pick up normally in the course of life but very few of us have learnt to use this art as a tool. Certain situations are very clear; such as visits to the hospital, where one is expected to show concern, or take the instance of a visit to a home where a death has taken place. These are obvious situations and we learn from society the correct mood to display and say the right things that are to be said. This is emotional intelligence; the ability to gauge the mood of the situation and modulate one’s own behavior accordingly. In other words it amounts to tempering action with wisdom. From the management angle, by following a few established principle... More About: Action , Intelligence , Emotional Intelligence , Emotional

If someone wants to talk to you, especially at home, immediately discontinue all other activities and give that person your complete attention. Turn off the television, shut the book or newspaper, and focus single-mindedly on what the other person is saying. This behavior will be instantly recognized and appreciated, and will give you tremendous emotional power in the conversation.
