 President Bush will make a statement about the economic-stimulus rebates that are to begin reaching taxpayers next week. The White House says Bush will speak outside as he prepares to board his helicopter for a trip. Rebate checks of us to $1,200 per couple and even more for families with dependent children are part of a $168 billion stimulus package enacted in February. The IRS says the first direct deposits of rebates will begin Monday, with paper checks to follow starting next month. (more…)

Dollar Set for Biggest Weekly Advance Against Euro Since March

The dollar headed for its biggest weekly gain in a month against the euro and a second winning week against the yen on increasing speculation the Federal Reserve will stop cutting interest rates. The U.S. currency held near a two-week high versus the euro as the extra yield two-year German government bonds pay over similar-maturity Treasuries narrowed to the least since March 24. The yen weakened against the euro as falling expectations for exchange-rate swings encouraged investors to buy higher-yielding assets with loans from Japan. (more…)

From the onset, the United Sates earmarked two countries as mortal enemies: Venezuela and Iran. With Venezuela, it is well documented that the CIA attempted to overthrow the democratically elected government of Chavez. Oil prices drop to near $118 a barrel as US dollar strengthens, US crude st

Oil prices fell Thursday as the U.S. dollar strengthened and after a U.S. government report showed a build in crude supplies.The greenback was higher in Asian trading after taking back some ground against the euro Wednesday. A stronger dollar makes commodities such as oil less attractive as a hedge against inflation and makes oil more expensive to investors overseas. The weakness of the dollar compared to the first-half of last year has been a primary factor to crude oil’s sharp rise in recent months. (more…)
