New book: Public Relations for Asia
2007-11-05 20:37:00
This 248 pages book, Public Relations for Asia , has just been launched and a brief glance at its index of contents looks promising. The book is divided into four parts. The first part deals with the context and theory of PR. The second part deals with PR strategy and planning. The third part is on PR Skills, which includes chapters on writing press release/ feature, how to do a media interview, how to call a journalist, how to generate creative ideas, how to design an online press office, how to exploit the new media, planning and managing PR events, internal communications, presentation skills, writing good speech, briefing design work, and using language and images to influence people. The final part talks about the future of PR.A bit irony here is that the authors of the book - Trevor Morris and Simon Goldsworthy - are senior PR practitioners in the UK. So you might feel that this is a bit of talking down on how to do PR by experts from mature PR markets to the poor PR practitioner...

79% of journalists turn to social networks for news leads
2007-11-02 08:22:00
79% of journalists out of 29,000 polled turn to social networking for news leads and 62% obtain less than 10% of their content from PR firms today. One-in-three journalists contribute to blogs. 91% of journalists prefer to be contacted by email and 70% rely heavily on visual attachments. And because of the evolving social media, 49% see a growing divide between PR professionals and the media. These are the main findings from a media survey conducted by Bennett & Company, a marketing firm in Florida. While the findings might be US-centric, take this as a heads-up for similar trends developing in India.Tech Tags: pr public+relations india

2007-10-30 12:51:00
Welcome to PRPO - which stands for PR Process Outsourcing .And this is how PR outsourcing is starting out - Text 100 has started a Global Resource Optimization Centre at Mumbai to cater to activities that can be conducted at any part of the world. Tips on Pitching Bloggers
2007-10-29 19:40:00
Imagine you are pitching a story to a blogger and the latter is not convinced about your story idea. Still you persist. The blogger gets really pissed off and writes a nasty piece about you, your client, and writes in detail about what you have been doing. That is blogger relations for you - not like dealing with the usual mainstream media journalist who might bang down the phone but at least won't write his/her personal jaunt with you.Ok I exaggerated a bit. This can happen very rarely. Bloggers , especially the top ones, can be very professional and do take decisions objectively. But the point is this is an area that calls more a more sensitive handling than you would have been doing normally. To help get things stated, this is a good post at Problogger that details 21 tips from the full-time blogger himself on tips that one can keep in mind while pitching to bloggers. Problogger is considered to be the top resource site on blogging so you might just want to check what the expert h...

Is HT launching a TV news channel?
2007-10-29 17:00:00
Is the Hindustan Times (HT) group set to launch a TV news channel? If so, this could be its next step towards competing with the Times Group since the latter has recently launch the Times Now TV channel.Remember HT Group launched Mint this year to fill its gap of a financial daily. The Times group has The Economic Times, though the comparison might be bit unfair.By the way, LiveMint.com recently reported that India will see 100 new TV channels launching by the end of this year.Tech Tags: pr public+relations india

PR agencies losing out social media to speciality firms and ad agencies
2007-10-27 10:18:00
PR 2.0, social media marketing, or whatever name you call it is supposed to be primarily the domain of PR agencies. If you are a CEO of an organisation and wants to add the social media mix into your overall PR and marketing plan, you are likely to approach your corporate communications or your PR agency. Right? I don't think so. And I'm not the only one talking about it. Here is Jeremy Pepper writing about how PR can lose the social media to the advertising folks because the latter have the ability to make things look more sexier. He also wrote that when websites came into the scene years back, the PR folks ignored it and what is primarily a communications tool went to the marketing hands and today they use it mainly to sell products.Out here in India it is mostly of this second reason that the PR industry is today seemingly losing the social media to the advertising industry. Most PR agency folks do not care less about the social media or are too busy selling stories to the newsp...
