Slow Saturday - A Dog?s Life
2007-12-23 01:36:00
A lot of professionals in China have moved up the career ladder, fast. It’s called the Peter Principle, and it applies to people who have been promoted to the point where they begin to fail. But a more important issue for many is that they have to be careful how they treat people around them as ...

2007-12-20 09:56:00
Starting out from a very low base in 1979 China has managed no less than an economic miracle in the equivalent of only two generations. An interesting site in China called China Business Success Stories just put me on to a research report on Pre-Departure Training for China Expatriates. Rethinking Sourcing
2007-12-17 02:42:00
We all have our routines and habits. For years I drove the same route to work, parked in the same spot, and ate lunch at around the same time every day. Routine is good because it keeps us from wasting time thinking about mundane and unimportant things. It is a necessary component of our lives, ...

Carbon Copy Hiring
2007-12-13 06:40:00
"What an idiot!", you say to yourself as you sign off on a Job Offer letter for the third highly questionable candidate this month. "How could he think that guy has what it takes!", you mutter to yourself on the way back to your office, "It's just like the other two people that he hired last week. All losers. Bit like him I suppose".

Skills Gap Solution In China
2007-12-07 06:40:00
It seems like an obvious thing to say, but nonetheless very true, that China can close the talent gap if companies invest in more training. It's not going to be the solutioin to your problems tomorrow, but it will solve them eventually. This advice comes from Pete Engardio, a senior writer for Business Week, cited in a recent report on China called 'Using Stories to Develop Future Leaders in China'.

Interviewing High Profile Candidates
2007-11-27 06:01:00
You can't bluff a high profile candidate because if you do you are not only endangering your current search. The wide ranging influence of these candidates puts your business at risk if you are third party search. It puts your company hiring brand at risk if you are an in-house Recruiter. But what if no one else is available to interview them?

Slow Saturday - Virtual Worlds
2007-11-25 06:17:00
The new site is called Everyscape, and right now it can display Google Earth-style virtual tours of cities. But in December Everyscape will start to go indoors, into the shops themselves. It's not difficult to imagine an extension of the site that allows us to actually buy something, and then deliver like Amazon does. If it were to take off to would increase home working, reduce hiring for retail outlets, and increase demand for software developers and call centre staff.

China?s Emotional Advantage
2007-11-23 06:32:00
A recent report by TalentSmart called China ’s Secret Weapon just caught my attention. The basic tenet of the report is that Chinese executive uses emotional intelligence in an intuitive way to manage staff, perhaps even as their primary way of managing. This gives them an advantage over American managers. Specifically, Chinese managers have an ability to see talent management as ...

Long Term Survival - HR?s Challenge
2007-11-20 06:44:00

Online Recruitment in China

Onrec?s recent foray into Asia was a resounding success with a good mixture of both internal HR practitioners and external 3rd party vendors in attendance at the Online Recruitment in China Conference in Hong Kong last week. Happiest City in China
2007-11-09 07:42:00

China Banks Hiring
2007-11-05 07:38:00
Many years ago, Ross Perot, a one-time candidate for the US Presidency, coined a phrase to cover his opposition to the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). He said there would be a 'giant sucking sound' that would symbolize jobs in the United States moving to Mexico. Naturally it didn't happen but we may have a similar, more plausible scenario happening right now for bankers outside China .
