RV770 will do GDDR 5 and GDDR3
2008-05-10 07:31:00 Fudzilla - RV770 will do GDDR 5 and GDDR3: "We’ve learned that ATI's single chip RV770 card comes in two flavors. The first and slower one is branded as RV770PRO, and it will be using GDDR3 memory. ATI will let its partners build them and, of course, these will be the more affordable of the two.The second Asic is codenamed RV770XT and it comes paired with GDDR5 memory. This board will be manufactured by ATI (MBA) and it will end up faster. The new Rx7x0 generation will have two single-chip cards and we believe ATI will continue using numbers only to reduce the confusion. The larger number one will be RV700XT-based, and Radeon 4xxx has a high possibility on the naming list."
Atom runs Vista just fine
2008-05-10 07:30:00 Fudzilla - Atom runs Vista just fine: "We've learned that Atom at 1.6GHz or even at 1.33GHz runs Vista just fine. You don’t feel the difference by running Vista with enough memory on low frequency Celeron or Atom single-core CPU.As most of Celerons are single-core you cannot really feel the difference and Atom will be a good match for fancy Vista OS.As far as we have heard you can forget about Aero, but the system will work. Intel’s 945GC simply cannot cope with fancy Aero as the graphic integrated chipset is too old and crappy to run the fancy Aero glass. As Vista likes more memory, you will have to add at least 2GB memory to smoothly run applications. So, yes, you will be able to run both Windows XP and Vista and we bet that sooner or later Linux will run on Atom just fine." More About: Fine , Runs

Windows XP Service Pack 3 delayed
2008-05-01 03:54:00 XP SP3 delayed by retailer glitch - The INQUIRER: "MICROSOFT has pulled the plug on the expected release of Windows XP Service Pack 3 because of a glitch in the way it works with MS Retail Management Systems (RMS).Anyone who jumped the gun and downloaded the update from any one of the non-official sources bouncing around the Wibble for the last couple of days should think twice before hitting the install button.Volish minions won't say when a proper version of the update will be available, but it won't be pushed out through normal channels until Redmond has worked out how to filter downloads from RMS customers." Nvidia to make all your PC games 3D (if you so choose) | Crave : The gadget
2008-05-01 03:52:00 Nvidia to make all your PC games 3D (if you so choose) | Crave : The gadget blog: "Thanks to a new software driver Nvidia is cooking up, any PC game can be played in 3D, with no extra work on the part of game developers.Beginning this summer, any PC with an Nvidia graphics processor will have the ability to run a game in normal mode, or in 3D, with the aid of 3D glasses. The software driver will enable the ability to have two views--left eye and right eye--which, at the push of a button, appear blurry and pixelated to the naked eye. When viewed through 3D lenses though, the game pops into three-dimensional mode. The important part is that game developers won't have to do anything differently. They just continue to make their games the way they want, and Nvidia will take care of the rest. It's just an option for gamers though--it doesn't mean all games have to be three-dimensional." Ubisoft nixes first DX10.1 support
2008-05-01 03:47:00 Ubisoft nixes first DX10.1 support - The INQUIRER: "AFTER BEING THE FIRST games company to implement Direct X 10.1 in a video game, Ubisoft has now said that it plans to remove the support from the game to address concerns over alleged graphical glitches. Assassin's Creed is a PC port of last year's console favourite, and is the first PC game on the market to support DX 10.1, the updated version of the Vista-only 3D technology that ships with Service Pack 1. Of course, DX10.1 is supported primarily in ATI's Radeon 3000-class GPUs, with Nvidia choosing to eschew support for the most part, claiming that there was nothing important to be missed. But a new graphical analysis of the game running under DX10.1, which you can see over at HardOCP here, has shown that there is actually a large performance boost to be had from a couple of the more efficient rendering algorithms in the updated spec. Author Mark Warner called the boost 'significant', pumping the frame rate up by as much a... More About: Support , Ubisoft
9500GT DDR3 release date
2008-05-01 03:47:00 Fudzilla - 9500GT DDR3 comes in July: "Nvidia is not going to have an easy entry level transition from Geforce 8 to Geforce 9, but it still looks that it will be just in time for back to school.Geforce 9500GT, the new DDR3 entry-level card, will launch at some point in July, but the more attractive and cheaper Geforce 9500GS with DDR2 memory is currently scheduled for August. We are talking about the volume shipments but some smaller volumes might actually see the light of day even before these dates. This will be the final piece of puzzle in completing the Geforce 9 series launch and Nvidia better be working on Geforce 10.GT200 aka D10U also launches around June / July. but despite the codename we are not sure if Nvidia dares to call it Geforce 10. We’ve been surprised before." More About: Release
RV770 to volume ship in July
2008-05-01 03:46:00 Fudzilla: "RV770 and R700 will both launch at some point in June, but we've heard that partners expect to ship the big volume quantities in very early Q3 2008. July is the month to hope for many cards. This doesn’t mean that you shouldn't be able to get your RV770 or R700, the card with two 55nm RV770s, shortly after the launch in June, but at the same time it means that the real volume shipments are scheduled for July and onward.Nvidia should be launching its next generation around the same time, but the biggest trouble for both of them is that consumers usually don’t really buy a lot of expensive computer stuff in July, as people in the western hemisphere tend to go on expensive vacations at that time.Still, both Nvidia and ATI will be ready for the back to school period, which dictates that the cards be ready for OEM refresh in late July and early August, and ultimately for September and early Q4, when the cool games usually get launched." 65nm Q6600 to live through Q3 2008
2008-05-01 03:42:00 Fudzilla: "It looks that Intel won't overcome its 45nm quad-core production problems even in Q3 2008 . We've seen some of the company's future plans that indicatesthat the Core 2 Quad Q6600, the most successful mainstream quad core so far, will at least live through Q3 2008.The Core 2 Quad Q6600 is based on two 65nm dual-cores stitched together and has proven to be a great part, but its appearance on the Q3 2008 roadmap simply means that Intel plans a shortage of 45nm quad-core parts. In the last days of the first month of Q2 2008, you can hardly buy any 45nm quad-cores, especially the ones with the full 12MB cache, and we believe that this is the reason to keep the 65nm Q6600 alive, even in Q3 2008." 8500GT to be renamed as 9400GS
2008-05-01 03:39:00 Fudzilla - 8500GT to be renamed as 9400GS: "Nvidia cannot get enough renaming. What used to be eight will be turned to 9. This time around, they want to rename G98 / D8P its 65nm chip from eight series to nine series. We are not surprised, as we know that Nvidia has quite a lot of these chips and it doesn’t have much success in selling these huge quantities to big OEMs.Remember, we already told you that the company plans to launch Geforce 9 series in the entry-level market around June time. The new renaming game will affect two chips, Geforce 8400GS and Geforce 8500GT.The slower 8400GS will rename to 9300GS, while the fastest of two, Geforce 8500GT, will rename to Geforce 9400GS."
Intel plans two new Quad-cores in Q3
2008-05-01 03:39:00 Fudzilla - Intel plans two new Quad -cores in Q3: "Intel plans to launch two new 45nm Yorkfield-based quad-cores with quite reasonable prices, and it plans to do this in Q3 2008. As many of you know, Q3 starts in July and lasts until the last day of September and in this period Intel plans to introduce the Core 2 Quad Q9650 and Core 2 Quad 9400.The Core 2 Q9x50 model name means that the CPU has 12MB of cache, while the Core 2 Q9x00 means that it comes with 6MB, the additional 6MB is simply disabled. The Core 2 Quad Q9650 will run at 3.0GHz on a 1,333MHz FSB. fits in socket 775 and has 12MB of L2 cache memory. It will sell for $525 at launch and, of course, it’s made in 45nm dual-core stitched process. The second quad-core to launch in Q3 is the Core 2 Quad Q9400, which will run at 2.66GHz, again on a 1,333MHz FSB, using socket 775 and it has 6MB of L2 cache memory. This CPU is the same as the current just about available Q9450, but with 6MB of L2 cache cut off. The Q9400 will sell f... More About: Plans , Cores
3DMark Vantage launches

The ticker on Futuremark Website has it set to launch around 15.00 today CET, and this is the first 3DMark version that only supports DX10 and Windows Vista. There will be four different versions, a free demo version which can be run a single time, the US$6.95 Basic Edition for non-commercial, personal use, that can only be run at one resolution and requires the user to connect to Futuremark's ORB service to view the result, the US$19.95 Advanced Edition (which adds custom settings which the Basic Edition doesn't have), but again only for non-commercial, personal use. Then we have the US$495 for the Professional Edition which doesn't require an Internet connection to view the results and it also adds scripting for automated batch runs, and this version is for commercial use. We'd also expect to see a media versio...
Graphzilla prepping early G200 launch - The INQUIRER
2008-04-26 15:52:00 Graphzilla prepping early G200 launch - The INQUIRER: "THE GREEN TEAM is moving up its launch of the GeForce 9900 series to July in a bid to counter DAAMIT's launch of RV770, according to our old friend Internet Reports. The bods at VR-Zone offer no hard info for their claims beyond the usual sources, but it doesn't seem like an improbable move. If AMD actually gets its act together and RV770 - the Radeon 4800 series - actually turns out to be a performance crown-winner, Nvidia won't want to let that stand for very long. The 9900GT was previously speculated to be the first card out of the bag, given the stunning sales and benchmark performance of the 8800GT, but it may now be that all chips are being stuck into GTX and GTS cards to make sure that Nvidia stays top dog in the face of new competition." EVGA launches two 9600 GSO cards
2008-04-26 15:44:00 Fudzilla: "EVGA has launched two versions of renamed 8800GS, that shall be now know as 9600GSO. The card is based on Nvidia's G92 GPU and comes with 192-bit memory interface, 384MB of GDDR3 memory and 96 Stream processors. You can simply call it Geforce 8800GS renamed edition.EVGA has decided to launch both reference clocked card and the Superclocked edition which will come with factory overclocked settings. Unlike XFX's 9600GSO which we mentioned yesterday here, EVGA's 9600GSO cards will use an 8800GT-like cooler. The reference clocked card works at 550MHz for the core, 1600MHz for 384MB of GDDR3 memory and Shaders ended up working at 1375MHz.The Superclocked edition card will work at much higher 650MHz for the core, even more higher 1900MHz for the same 384MB of GDDR3 memory, and Shaders got boosted to 1620MHz." ICH10 is not PCIe 2.0
2008-04-25 14:06:00 Fudzilla - ICH10 is not PCIe 2.0: "Intel's upcoming ICH10 doesn't seem to add many new features compared to the current ICH9 and it won't even be upgraded to PCIe 2.0. To take advantage of Intel's next generation of Turbo Memory modules which will come to the desktop later this year, you also need to have the ICH10R, as the plain ICH10 doesn't seem to support Turbo Memory. The only really new feature is Corwin Springs, which we told you about here. The only other new addition is that the plain ICH10 has support for AHCI, or hot swappable SATA devices, something the plain ICH9 doesn't have.Intel has killed off the DH or Digital Home version of its ICH and allowed for the normal versions to be used in Viiv certified platforms. On the business side of things, Intel has added a new RAID free version of its ICH, which will be known as the ICH10D with the RAID enabled version keeping the DO suffix. The ICH10D and DO will support a wide range of managebility features which is important...
Dual core Celeron E1400 to arrive on May 11th
2008-04-25 14:05:00 Fudzilla - Dual core Celeron E1400 to arrive on May 11th: "Intel plans to launch a 2GHz dual-core Celeron and it intends to do this on the May 11th. The new CPU is branded as the Celeron Dual-Core E1400 and it works at 2.0GHz, has 512KB cache memory and it operates on an 800MHz FSB. It will sell for US$54, but only to distributors who will buy a huge number of these. The currently available dual-core Celeron E1200 at 1.6GHz won’t drop in price, at least not on May 11th, but we are sure Intel will have to drop its original price, as both the 2.0GHz E1400 and the 1.6GHz E1200 will cost the same $54.This is the only product that Intel plans to launch in May, with the E7200 already being available and it is selling in Europe from about €115." Nvidia to launch 9400/9500 in June
2008-04-25 14:00:00 Fudzilla: "Nvidia plans to complete the Geforce 9 introduction and the last pieces of the puzzle are called Geforce 9400 and 9500.Samples are available to Nvidia's best customers, but it looks that Nvidia might wait until June to launch these products. The reason is that it still has a lot of 8400s that OEM’s don’t really want. On the other hand, Nvidia’s partners are also sitting on a lot of 8400 cards, so it is unlikely that Nvidia can get rid of them quickly. On the other hand, we heard that the Geforce 8500 is selling quite well, but for an additional €10 to €20 you can get a much faster 8600GT card.ATI forced Nvidia into the price war and users have simply too many products in the sub €100 market space, which makes it much more difficult to decide what to get." Intel to drop overclocking for mainstream Nehalems
2008-04-25 13:59:00 Fudzilla: "We've learned that Intel is going to change its policy on overclocking once it moves away from the LGA775 platform onto the desktop Nehalem platform, which is currently known as Bloomfield, which uses the LGA1366 socket. This will be the only platform from Intel which will overclock in the future, as the company is not going to support overclocking on other platforms.Below the Bloomfield is the Lynnfield and Havendale processors, both using the LGA1160 socket. Neither of these are likely to get any overclocking abilities, although we're not sure how Intel can prevent third-party motherboard manufacturers from adding overclocking features to their boards. However, with most of the Northbridge being located inside the CPU of these models, it might be possible for Intel to make some changes as to what the BIOS can access and how the bus speed is controlled. If this is indeed the case, then this is very sad news for all enthusiasts, as it means that a huge group of users wil... More About: Overclocking , Drop
Intel to discontinue E6000-series
2008-04-25 13:58:00 Fudzilla - Intel to discontinue E6000-series: "Once we get to Q3 this year Intel will bid farewell to the 65nm E4000 and E6000-series of processors in favor of the E7000 and E8000-series, depending on the performance segment. We can fully understand this move, as the yield per wafer should be much better using 45nm compared to 65nm.However, this does, of course, depend on how well Intel can ramp up its 45nm production lines, as the current shortage of some 45nm doesn't seem to want to go away; which has had the unfortunate effect of pushing the market prices up.Intel will keep the Q6600 in its range until at least the end of the year as a mainstream quad-core processor, but the Q9000-series will take over slowly but surely. This might also have something to do with Intel's 45nm production issues, but it could also be that Intel still has a lot of back stock of quad-core 65nm processors that haven't sold. The E4700 will be the last of the E4000-series of processors and in Q3 it wil... AMD 790GX to replace 790X
2008-04-25 13:57:00 Fudzilla: "AMD will be replacing the current AMD 790X chipset with the 790GX, which shouldn't be too far away. Think of the 790GX as the best of the 790X and the 780G chipset combined with a faster IGP, and you've got it in one.The GPU is likely going to be called Radeon HD 3300 and from what we've heard the clock speed should be around 750MHz. However, with many overclockable 780G boards out there, it's unlikely that the performance will be any better than a 780G board with its IGP at the same clock speed. The 790GX will also support sideband memory up to 128MB, although there isn't meant to be much of a performance increase going from 64 to 128MB. It looks like IGP-less chipsets are soon all but a memory, although as long as it doesn't end up costing any more, we're all for IGP chipsets with more features. The 790GX is most likely going to be able to work in various Hybrid CrossFireX configurations with faster cards than the 3400-series, although it's unlikely to add any sen...

Assassin’s Creed with DX 10.1 runs up to 20 percent faster

Tri-core Phenom B3 to launch next week
2008-04-18 16:31:00 Fudzilla: "The Phenom 8x50 in B3 revision will be launching next week. The new CPU manages to come in at a higher clock speed and naturally, it costs less than the Quad-core B3 products.AMD will put quite a lot of pressure on Intel’s dual-core, as it will send a signal that three are better than two, and in many cases three cores will run almost as fast as a quad-core. This is what our original test with the Phenom Tri core 8600 has revealed and you can check it out here.Intel already started to send its partners FUD documents claiming that the Core 2 is always better than Tri-core and that Tri-core Phenoms are broken by design, which means that they are scared and that AMD got Intel’s attention.AMD doesn’t have anything to lose as three-core Phenoms have one core disabled or non-functional and therefore AMD can get better yield from its wafers. We believe that they will sell quite well and most of them will have a 95W TDP." More About: Launch , Week

Nehalem chipset won't do SLI
2008-04-18 04:35:00 Fudzilla: "We learned that Intel is really upset with a little green thing called Nvidia and that the chipset that will support Nehalem CPUs codenamed Bloomfield won't support SLI.This is not big news, as traditionally the X38 and X48 high end chipset in its reference boards didn't support SLI, and yet again Intel was fine.First generation Nehalem won't do SLI, but it will support Crossfire, as Intel likes AMD more than Nvidia, which is kind of an awkward situation. If there is a mechanism for Intel to remove Nvidia from its chipset list for future products, this is highly likely to happen. Just remember the Nforce 680i where Intel intentionally forgot to tell Nvidia that it changed the Yorkfield 45nm quad-cores and the final score is that Nforce 680i doesn’t run with 45nm quad-cores.This cost Nvidia a lot of money, as it decided to swap all Nforce 680i reference designed boards for 780i and this happened when Intel was rather cold to Nvidia. 2008-04-18 04:28:00 Fudzilla - RV670 to become Radeon 3830: "The last iteration of the RV670 is actually going to be a low-cost one. Since we are expecting the RV770 in late Q2, ATI doesn’t have any plans to make the RV670 any faster, but it does have plans to make it slower and lower-priced.We previously reported about the RV670-based Radeon 3830 and it looks as if the whole world might get access to this card. We believed that this card was going to be limited to China, but it looks like ATI will make the RV670 with a 128-bit memory interface, at lower cost, available for anyone who wants it.This card will probably have to be priced between €50 and €100, and we would bet on a €70 to €80 price point as the cheapest HD 3650 sells for €50, while the cheapest HD 3850 sells around €100. The Radeon HD 3830 should be faster than the Radeon HD 3650, but it will definitely be slower than the Radeon HD 3850."
