2008-01-07 18:11:00
Engadget spotted Nokia N95 at CES 2008 but what special about that. Its special because it's not in a regular dark color. They spotted a red N95 at the Nokia booth of Digital Experience at CES.It's not custom painted, it's not some sort of funky special edition -- it's real, it's coming, and more importantly, it's coming here. Word on the street we'll see it before the first quarter's out for $599, implying that there's a little price drop for N95s of all colors in the cards for the near future.

Social Networking For iPod From Jook
2008-01-07 18:01:00
Engadget reports Jook may bring social networking to iPod .Right now,we don't have a whole bunch of info on Jook , and sure, the press photos claim that "actual products may differ from pictures," and yeah, the patents are pending. Still, it seems like the dock connector-attached unit will be bringing some Zune-style social networking features to your lonely, non-WiFi iPod. Of course, we all know how successful The Social has been in Microsoft's court -- but with the massive proliferation of iPods on the street, this might gain a little more ground. We do worry about the use of the term "music standard," the apparently-necessary headphones, and the fact that the company doesn't appear to have a website, but hey -- you never know.

True Video Recording to the iPhone By ShowTime
2008-01-06 16:36:00
ShowTime is a new application which captures and saves video at six frames per second, 320 x 627 resolution. Not as fast Drunknbass, but this one actually saves the video clips to the iPhone 's flash memory as individual files. The application looks and feels polished, even if the recording format is weird and lacks compression.Right now, the only problem is that the video is saved in a raw format, without compression, you won't be able to pass it to your computer and your recording time will be very limited by the onboard iPhone memory. Fortunately, they are working on the compression and the faster capture now. Also check out the video(how to install and use) from here.

New Creative Zen V Video Listed on Support Site
2008-01-06 08:26:00
Apparently, some Creative fans have begun to speculate that a new iteration of the company's Zen V might be making an appearance, due to a listing on its site for a product called the "ZEN V Video ." The link won't take you anywhere substantial (in fact, all you get is an error when you try to download anything related to the entry), but it does suggest that the company has plans to introduce a more video-centric version of its popular player. Since we've seen some dubious (i.e., fake) Creative video players lately, we're not going to get too excited just yet -- but feel free to draw your own, wildly imaginative conclusions. 2008-01-05 03:30:00
Nokia has taken every possible steps to keep the N series and E series quite different. But according to critics the biggest problem with N series is the lack of a full-fledged keyboard. And the E series lacks the presence of good quality cameras and multimedia. So what if Nokia combines the best features of both each series and created one device. It looks like we?ll all be able to answer those questions and more in the second half of 2008. According to two of our reliable sources, Nokia is brewing a dynamo slated for a late-2008 release with some of the most impressive specs we?ve seen to date. Here?s what we can tell you: the device is not yet named but it will be an N series and will sport the S60 3rd Edition FP2 OS. The body is described as being similar to that of the E61i with a slender candy bar form factor and a full keyboard. That?s not a typo, guys! An Nseries with a full QWERTY keyboard! Details are limited with regards to the guts, but we do know that it will pack either...

GeForce 9800 GX2 Unveiled
2008-01-04 16:23:00
NVIDIA's yet-to-be released GeForce 9800 GX2 in the "flesh." .HardOCP has the first exclusive pictures of the upcoming GeForce 9800 GX2 and some specs of it.The best way to think of the GeForce 9800 GX2 card is as an 8800 GPU that has been die shrunk to 65nm and placed in an SLI configuration in a "single" card. The 9800 GX2 is very reminiscent of 7950 GX2 of days past. The GeForce 9800 GX2 will launch in late February or early March as it now stands and will replace the 8800 Ultra (single GPU) card in NVIDIA's high-end product line up. The 9800 GX2 is said to be at least 30% faster than a 8800 Ultra. While it is not clear from the pictures below,it is speculated to support the "Quad SLI."According to HardOCP the 9800 GX2 is using a pair of 65nm G92 GPU's, the same that you can find in the new 8800 GT/GTX. The card has 1GB of memory and a total of 256 Stream processors which indicates that this is a dual G92 based 8800 GTX.You can find the original story and the pictures here

Hitachi's Two New 500GB 2.5'' HDD ,5K500 And E5K500
2008-01-04 03:00:00
According to Engadget Hitachi has announced two new 500GB 2.5 inch hard drives, the 5K500 and the E5K500.Even if it is a great success but there's one downside to this. This jump in storage didn't come from advancements in storage technology -- it came from Hitachi cramming another platter onto the stack. More platters equal more thickness, and the 5K500 and E5K500 are 3mm thicker than your industry-standard 9.5mm thick 2.5-inch drive. In other words, Hitachi copped out in the race to 500GB and created a non-standard sized drive that more than likely won't fit in your laptop or external enclosure. They will start at a price tag of $400 (the E5K500 will likely cost a bit more, it's the enterprise drive with bulk data encryption and is rated for 24/7 access) and will be available in February.
Corsair Unveils 32GB Flash Voyager / Flash Survivor drive
2008-01-04 02:53:00
Not that 32GB flash drives are revolutionary or anything, but they're pretty far from being old hat. Thankfully, Corsair is readying a new pair to be unveiled at CES, both of which will boast USB 2.0 connectivity and fairly reasonable price tags considering the capaciousness. Both the Flash Voyager and the über-rugged Flash Survivor will be bumped to 32GB, and both should be able to withstand the desert heat with ease. The pain? $229.99 and $249.99, respectively, and both units should be making their way out as we speak. Source

NVIDIA 8800 GS : A Strong Contender Against ATI's 3850 Series
2008-01-04 02:41:00
Expreview has got their hands on a production 8800 GS card which by any means looks to be a stripped down G80-series GPU although it's branded as the G92-150 and it's manufactured at 65nm. It has a 192-bit memory interface, 12 ROPs and 96 Stream processors compared to a 256-bit memory interface 16 ROPs and 112 Stream processors for the 8800 GT.The 384MB card on test is clocked at 575MHz for the core, 1,438MHz for the Shaders and 1,700MHz for the memory. This is somewhat slower than the 8800 GT that it was put up against which was clocked at stock speeds. However, the 768MB versions of these cards should be clocked faster than the 8800 GT, but features the same amount of Stream processors and ROPs. On average the 8800 GS 384MB was 20-30 percent slower than the 8800 GT 512MB card it was put up against, but if it'll be priced right, it looks as if AMD's 3850 series just got a fierce contender, especially as Expreview is quoting prices of US$165 for the 384MB version and US$204 for ...

ATI's R700 or NVIDIA's G100, Who Will Win The Battle ?
2008-01-02 15:47:00
R680, or two RV670 on the same PCB, should come out in late January, while the real next generation high end is scheduled for Q2 2008.There aren't any delays, at least not that we know of and this new chip is a big hope of ATI. The company has been trying to dethrone Nvidia for years and it hopes that R700 can be the next R300. This might happen, but Nvidia managed to be one step ahead of ATI for years.ATI managed to get back in the game in 2007, where it took back significant market share from Nvidia, mainly due to better prices, but it needs faster high end products to compete Nvidia even better.Nvidia would be in real trouble if R700 managed to beat G100 but usually Nvidia knows what it's doing.Source

HD DVD With XBOX 360 Speculated
2008-01-02 07:42:00
According to Seattle Times there's a good news for all XBOX gamers(if at all the rumour turns out to be true) which will be made public at the CES.Seattle Times staff columnist Brier Dudley speculates that Microsoft "may be preparing to license the Xbox gaming platform to consumer-electronics companies".In particular, Microsoft could work with Toshiba to develop a digital video recorder with a hard-drive, high-definition HD-DVD drive and Xbox gaming capabilities. They're already allied against Sony and other backers of the Blu-ray DVD format, and Toshiba could help Xbox finally penetrate the Japanese market.Microsoft could also make a splash by announcing plans to give the Xbox 360 an internal HD-DVD drive, putting it on par with Sony's PlayStation 3 that has a built-in Blu-ray drive. But then again, Gates may want to keep everyone in suspense about the next Xbox, in case he decides to return to CES after all.

Adobe Spying On CS3 Users
2008-01-02 03:05:00
It all began with a post at UNEASYsilence titled "Lies, Lies and Adobe Spies" which caught on to the fact that Adobe CS3 apps were calling out to a suspiciously-crafted IP address. As it turns out, the IP in question?192.168.112.2O7.net (note the capital O instead of a zero)?is not an IP at all, but rather a domain owned by statistics-tracking firm Omniture.Criticism and conspiracy theories quickly erupted across the web, calling for an answer from Adobe over what looked like a clear invasion of privacy crafted to look like a typical local IP address. According to Nack's investigation, Adobe's CS3 apps call out to Omniture's services to track a few usage statistics across Adobe products. Specifically, only three things are tracked: the news items presented in some apps' welcome screens, Adobe-hosted content loaded in Bridge's implementations of Opera and Flash Player (Bridge is the asset management component of Creative Suite), and Adobe online help systems like forums and the ...
