First Review of G92 Core 8800GS
2007-12-28 03:55:00 According to NVIDIA, G92 core 8800GS just aims to the OEM market. But it is said that the AICs have their own plans. GeForce 8800GS 384MB will be $149-179 and it will replace GeForce 8600GTS. GeForce 8800GS built in 6 groups and 96 Streaming Processors in total, each group has 8 Texture Filtering Unit and 8 Texture Addressing Unit, the stepping reduced to 12 from 16. It matched 192bit memory controller and 384MB memory, so its HDR and FSAA will not as good as GeForce 8800GT.Below is the 3DMark05, 06 test. The platform was not so good and the GPU-Z seems cannot display its correct clocks for now. Just for reference. Check out the complete story here. More About: Review , Core

Phenom Compatibility Issues
2007-12-27 15:54:00 Tomshardware took a look at Phenom compatibility and tried to test it on ten AM2 motherboards which were supposed to support it.The results were disappointing. AMD's new quad core only worked with two Asus boards, while the remaining Biostar, Foxconn, Epox, MSI and Gigabyte boards weren't in a mood to cooperate.Tomshardware concludes that as an upgrade option the Phenom is not yet mature, as the vast majority of motherboard manufacturers haven't done much to make it run on "old" AM2 motherboards. Although upgrading your Athlon 64 X2 system with a 165 euro quad core CPU seems like a tempting prospect it might be wise to wait for the new B3 stepping and motherboard updates. Apple To Use Intel's Silverthorne Chip In 2008
2007-12-25 03:34:00 AppleInsider reported Friday that Apple has decided to use Intel 's upcoming low-power Silverthorne chip in "not one but multiple products currently situated on its 2008 calendar year product roadmap." Silverthorne is Intel's latest push to capture the handheld/mobile phone market as part of a product concept called the Mobile Internet Device. The report goes on to say that the most likely candidates for Silverthorne are a 3G iPhone and the Newton-like tablet computer that AppleInsider reported on earlier in the year. Based on what we know about Silverthorne, I think the subtablet rumor might make sense, but a Silverthorne iPhone is unlikely. Intel plans to release more details about Silverthorne at the Intenational Solid State Circuits Conference in February, but we already know from the advance program, and from what Intel said about the chip last year, that we can expect Silverthorne to behave like a much smaller 2004-era Pentium M processor that consumes just a watt or two of po... AMD Phenom CPUs To Be Further Delayed
2007-12-24 10:41:00 AMD has recently notified its partners that the launch of higher-end quad-core Phenom processors, including the 9700 and 9900, will be postponed to the second quarter of 2008 from the original schedule of early 2008, according to sources at motherboard makers. However, whether AMD's triple-core Toliman series CPUs will also see delay will be the key decision for the company, since Toliman offers a high price/performance ratio compared with Intel 's quad-core CPUs. A delay for Toliman will hurt AMD the most, noted the sources. The sources commented that the reason for the delay of 9700 and 9900 is because AMD has not yet been able to solve the translation lookaside buffer (TLB) erratum found in the chips. However, they added in saying that, in the long-term, AMD's decision is correct since pushing products that are not ready will only hurt the company more.AMD declined to comment on this report. The company pointed out that it has not made any official announcement regarding a delay...

Worms Hits Google's Orkut
2007-12-21 08:08:00 Google's Orkut social networking site hasn't enjoyed the popularity that others, such as MySpace and Facebook, have in the U.S. That being said, the site is quite popular in other countries, chiefly India and Brazil. The networking site was targeted by what appears to be a non-malicious hacker yesterday and the effect was quite astounding. The worm used Orkut's scrapbook system to spread its message to hundreds of thousands of users in just a few hours. First an Orkut user would receive an e-mail that a new scrapbook entry had been sent to them. Upon viewing the new entry, the user would see the message ?2008 vem ai... que ele comece mto bem para vc.? The message is Portuguese and reads as ?2008 is coming... I wish that it begins quite well for you? in English. Not exactly what you'd expect from a super virulent worm virus. Trojan Attacks Adsense Code
2007-12-21 06:45:00 FRANKFURT (Reuters) - Advertisements placed by Google in Web pages are being hijacked by so-called trojan software that replaces the intended text with ads from a different provider, Romanian antivirus company BitDefender says. The trojan redirects queries meant to be sent to Google servers to a rogue server, which displays ads from a third party instead of ads from Google, BitDefender said in a statement.Google said on Wednesday: "We have cancelled customer accounts that display ads redirecting users to malicious sites or that advertise a product violating our software principles.""We actively work to detect and remove sites that serve malware in both our ad network and in our search results. We have manual and automated processes in place to detect and enforce these policies."The trojan, named after the mythic Trojan Horse because of its ability to enter computer systems undetected, attacks Google's AdSense service, which targets advertisements to match Web page content."This is a... More Pics of HD 3450,HD 3470 And HD 3670
2007-12-20 14:21:00 Madboxpc has managed to get their hands on what appears to be the full specifications of and accompanying pictures of the upcoming Radeon HD 3450, 3470 and 3670. Starting with the HD 3450, in this instance it's a low profile card with a D-sub and DisplayPort connector, it has a core clock of 525MHz with the memory at 400 or 800MHz effectively, it has 256B of DDR2 memory and a 64-bit memory interface. Sadly the reference design incorporates a tiny fan cooler, but hopefully this won't appear on any retail cards. The HD 3470 is a full size card, although this doesn't seem like it's a requirement, as most of the PCB is empty. What struck us straight away is that this card features CrossFire bridge connectors, while cards we've seen elsewhere don't. The core is clocked at around 600MHz with the memory at 500MHz or 1GHz effectively. These cards will use GDDR3 memory and will be available in 256 and 512MB verities, although still limited by a 64-bit memory interface. The reference ca...
RV620 And RV635 To Be Radeon 3x00
2007-12-20 14:18:00 ATI will make quite a smart move that will boost sales of its entry level and mid range chips. Since it launched Radeon 38x0 series it slowed down the sales of 2600 and 2400 cards but it has a solution for it.As people usually buy the cards with higher numbers RV635 will be renamed to Radeon 3x50 probably 3650 while the RV620 the 55 nm version of RV615 will be known as Radeon 3x50, most likely Radeon 3450. These numbers look much better in the eyes of consumers and the new designation will probably help boost the sales of these chips. Smart but sneaky, what else can we say and it has been rumored that both RV620 and RV635 will get full Direct X 10.1 support and naturally they will consume less power and dissipate less heat due to the 55nm design.Source

Intel To Delay Three 45nm Quad-Core CPU Launch
2007-12-20 03:15:00 Intel has recently adjusted its product strategy and will postpone three 45nm quad-core CPUs that were originally scheduled to launch in January next year, according to sources at motherboard makers.Intel has already notified its partners that it will push back the launch of the three CPUs to February or March next year, depending on AMD's schedule for triple-core and the upcoming Phenom CPUs.Launch ing the CPUs now will not benefit Intel much in its battle with AMD, while they could cause damage to Intel's 65nm quad-core CPUs, therefore the company has decided it is in no rush to release new products until AMD is able to present more of a threat. The three CPUs that Intel plans to delay are the Core 2 Quad Q9300, Q9450 and Q9550, added the sources.Intel commented that its launch of 45nm quad-core CPUs for desktops is on track for first quarter 2008, but declined to disclose a specific time-frame.Source More About: Intel , Quad-core

New Entry Level Nvidia Card D9M GT Spotted
2007-12-19 13:56:00 The entry level series will get a new chip. The new chip is codenamed D9M GT.In Nvidia?s new codename game D9M means that the chip is a desktop part from the ninth generation and that this is an entry level part. Nvidia pulled off a game and the last time D8M ended up as the new 8400, entry level chip while D8P ended up as G92 ? 8800GT and GTS. This time around, we know that this is a new chip from the next generation and all we know how is that it supports Hybrid SLI.
