It's easy for criminals to eavesdrop voip phone calls
2007-11-23 16:45:00 Experts showed with a special program how easy it is for criminals to eavesdrop VoIP-based phone calls. With a software e.g. SIPtap multiple VoIP call streams are monitored, and recording for remote inspection. Criminal would only need be to infect a PC inside a network with a Trojan including these functions. The program can track voip calls by caller and by recipient, and even by date. With such a program organised crime could steal confidential data from governments, companies, and even the police. "We are in the early days of VoIP, but there is a knowledge gap," said VoIP consultat Cox, complaining the naivety about VoIP's inherent security weaknesses. "Companies using VoIP internally think they are protected." "The threat is that an attacker engineers a Trojan and has it sit there passively [on a network], recording calls from anywhere on the Internet," says Cox. His advice was simple. "Apply the same vigour when building a VoIP network you would when building a website." SIP... More About: Phone , Voip , Calls , Easy , Phone Calls

Dean Bubley, noted: "3G networks are increasingly capable of supporting VoIP, for both traditional mobile operators and independent internet-based VoIP challengers." But while mobile operators may be worried about losing call revenues to IP phone services, Mr Bubley suggested that they will finally use IP telephony themselves. News Out Of Skype
2007-09-27 18:30:00 this just in On September 22, 2007, Skype reached its 20 millionth registered user in North America, doubling from 10 million registered users in just over the last 12 months. Or think about it this way ? nearly 10 percent of the more than 232 million Internet users in North America have now downloaded and tried out Skype. In-Stat recently released its U.S. Residential Voice-Over IP Market Dynamics and Market Tracker report. The industry research firm found that Skype had further consolidated its leadership position in the client-based VoIP market during the first quarter of 2007, while the rest of the competitive field basically stalled out. In fact, they found that Skype increased its overall market share from 42 percent at the end of Q1 2006 to 47 percent at the end of Q1 2007. Simultaneously, Skype’s penetration among households with client-based VoIP accounts increased over the last 12 months from 61 percent to 92 percent. As you’ll recall, Skype announc... News and Notes for Thursday September 27 2007
2007-09-27 14:40:00 In what could possibly be a longterm blow to MagicJack, i2Telecom looks like they are on their way to winning a few patents on their VoiceStick technology. When I spoke with Magic Jack's folks a few weeks ago I raised the similarity to i2Telecom's USB implementation, but they seemed to be unmoved by the assertion. I'm wondering if their own patent attorneys are reading the news now to see what may or may not apply. While the i2Telecom patent has yet to be finalized the notice they received has to be warming to their hearts (and wallets.) On the subject of patents, a lot of people are wondering why I haven't weighed in on the Vonage fiasco caused by yet another defeat in court, this time to Sprint. I learned a long time ago not to speak ill of the dead. Assuming Vonage makes seven dollars a month on an average customer out of the $24.95 a month they charge that means almost 10 million customer months of profits are needed to cover the fine. With their roughly two... More About: News , Notes , Thursday , September

Truiphone Shown At DEMO-UPDATED
2007-09-26 01:56:00 Its only fitting that in the land of wireless phones and mobile technology, San Diego, the folks at Truphone came to play. And play they did at DEMO showing of a range of new devices that their mobile VoIP technology will be working on in the future, for that is the essence of DEMO. The big news though has to be the deployment of VoIP on the Apple iPhone, an industry first, as Truphone has figured out how to load in the necessary SIP stack. Oliver Starr at BlogNation has the details. At their stand at DEMO Truphone showed versions also working on the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet, the new HP Smartphone running Windows 6.0 and another Windows Mobile device that goes by various names like the DASH. Needless to say, the iPhone version is likely to cause quite a stir.......Since it DOES NOT Involve any SIM unlocking, it is clearly in the spirit of how Apple as a company started, back when they encouraged developers to take their robust DOS called Apple DOS and develop for it.....
