Hovercraft that can fly!
2007-10-29 08:16:00
New Zealand mechanic Rudy Heeman has developed a hovercraft with the ability to lift- off, leaving other water based craft in its wake. Heeman has spent the last eleven years building a hovercraft. Its' optimum height is about 4ft 6in above the water. The hoverwing sets off like a normal-hovercraft but when it reaches top speed of 60mph, its wings can be extended and it takes flight. Rudy Heeman feels that there may be a commercial market for his creation-the hoverwing. He feels that his invention is an extremely efficient method of transport, travelling at about 6ft over the water and reaching speeds of over 60mph across the surface.Officially this invention is a 'wing in ground effect vehicle' - a hovercraft which is able to fly due to a set of unusual aerodynamics. The first test flight ended in a crash landing. He escaped with a bruised leg and and it was back to the drawing board. But after hours of tinkering he made the necessary adjustments and now believes the hoverwing i...

2007-10-29 07:59:00
Singapore Airlines flight SQ380, from Singapore to Sydney was the first commercial flight of the Airbus A380. The buzz around the flight has ensured that its operation was a much-publicized event. "The flight was spectacular, just truly awesome," said Thomas Lee, when reached by cell phone as the plane pulled into the gate at Sydney Airport, (as told to the International Herald Tribune) "I'm thrilled beyond words actually. Just extremely excited. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd put it at 12." Lee's word is worth reckoning because he was aboard the first commercial flight of the 747, in 1970, and now was on the first A380 passenger flight as well. The A380 offers 50 percent more floor space than a 747, and can carry as many as 853 people.Singapore Airlines flight SQ380 flight had paying customers but it still wasn't a regularly scheduled flight. Download Movies in just Seconds!!!
2007-10-16 14:19:00
The Korean Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute has developed the fourth-generation mobile communications technology that allows an increased transmission rate of 3.6 gigabits per second (gbps). The newly developed mobile communications technology can transmit a file big enough to hold the entire Encyclopedia Britannica (4.7GB DVD) in less than 10.5 seconds. The new technology would reduce the time it takes to download a movie to just two seconds. On a 100-mbps network, the fastest Internet service available now, it takes about a minute. Korea is the first in the world to develop 3.6 gbps transmission technology and this will make possible for Korea to occupy a favorable position when the competition to standardize 4G mobile communications starts. The Research Institute predicted that when the technology is commercialized, around 2012, users will be able to view high-definition video in real time anywhere on a wireless network -- in the office, classroom or at home. ...

Samsung Developes Micro-Fuel Cell for Mobiles
2007-10-16 14:13:00
Samsung Electro-Mechanics announced that it has developed a micro-fuel cell and hydrogen generator that runs on H20. When the mobile handset is turned on, metal and water in the phone react to produce hydrogen gas which is then supplied to the Samsung micro-fuel cell where it reacts with oxygen in the air to generate power. While other fuel cells need methanol to produce hydrogen Samsung’s micro-fuel cell needs only water. Since the micro-fuel cell can generate up to three watts of electricity, it could be used in mobile devices, the company said. The new fuel cell could power a handset for 10 hours, twice as long as rechargeable batteries.Water-powered handsets are expected to hit the market by 2010. If the user uses the phone for four hours a day on average, they would have to change the hydrogen cartridge about every five days. Later handsets will be developed that don't need the hydrogen cartridges to be changed, and would only need to be filled with water. Samsung Electro-Me...

Hitachi developing 100GB and 200GB Blu-Ray discs
2007-10-03 19:11:00
At Ceatec 2007 in Tokyo, Hitachi showcased experimental 4 layered Blu-Ray discs which can hold upto 100GB of data. The company is working on signal quality stabilization in addition to changing the lens focus so it can read and write data on 4 layers. Hitachi is also researching 8 layer Blu-Ray media which can hold upto 200GB of data but with 8 layers the reflected laser from the disc decreases which weakens the signal. However by boosting the signal the data on the disc can be accessed.Panasonic has developed a royal purple laser system for Blu-Ray which supports 8X speed. A company spokesman said that the 10,000 RPM speed limits the development to 12X speeds.

World's Fastest Production Car!!!
2007-09-24 18:50:00
Shelby Supercars (SSC), manufacturer of the ultra high-performance Ultimate Aero Twin Turbo, set the new "World?s Fastest Production Car" record with an average top speed of 255.83 mph. Confident of the 1183 bhp vehicle?s abilities, SSC set out to validate their top speed claim in accordance with the strict guidelines set by Guinness World Records. Among other requirements, in order to meet Guinness? approval, a vehicle testing for the top speed record must drive down the course, turn around, and make a second pass in the opposite direction within one hour. The vehicle?s official ?top speed? is calculated by averaging the top speeds of each pass in order to negate any favorable road or weather conditions. In September 2007, on a temporarily-closed 2 lane stretch of public highway in Washington State, the Ultimate Aero posted a top speed of 257.11 mph (413.83 km/h) on its first pass and 254.55 mph (409.71 km/h) on its return pass, yielding a new top speed record: a staggering 255.83 ...

Intel to introduce 32nm Microprocessor Architecture
2007-09-19 01:08:00
In another world's first, Intel has produced a fully functional 32nm SRAM logic chip packing more than 1.9 billion second generation high-k metal gate transistors. It's a monumental step towards delivering 32nm microprocessors in 2009?and a great leap towards developing significant density, performance, and power improvements beyond today's 45nm technology. And what are these 1.9 billion transistors? They're the tiny switches that process the ones and zeroes that make up our digital world. They enable Intel to continue to deliver record-breaking PC, laptop and server processor speeds. And they're all packed onto a single memory cell nearly half the size of the 45nm cell?which means, for example, that Intel will be able to deliver more cores on the same die and more cache for even greater performance in the future. The digital age is transforming the way we live, work and communicate. And with this breakthrough in 32nm SRAM logic technology, you can expect more in the future?a lot...

Intel Code-named Penryn to be launched on Nov. 12
2007-09-19 00:42:00
Intel is on schedule to launch its next key computer chip - a product code named Penryn - on Nov. 12., the company announced Tuesday. The Santa Clara company also demonstrated a working version of Penryn's successor - Nehalem - at its semi-annual developers forum for hardware designers in San Francisco.During a keynote address kicking off the event, Chief Executive Paul Otellini used the twin announcements to argue that Intel remains in fighting trim."We're cranking up full scale production in two fabs with 45-nanometer" technology, the manufacturing technology that will produce Penryn and later Nehalem, Otellini said during a Q&A session following his speech. "We think this is a sustainable competitive advantage."The company's 45-nanometer technology will produce smaller chips that can run faster and use energy more efficiently. Intel has begun using 45-nanometers well in advance of its rival, Advanced Micro Devices.Nehalem, which is scheduled for launch during the second hal...

Rumor has it that Microsoft may soon start developing a device billed to be a potential Apple iPhone killer. The software major has reportedly stated that a mobile phone based on it's Zune digital media player "is not an unreasonable move".The phone will likely to be called the "Zune Phone" and will be a competitor to Apple's iPhone. The iPhone is currently available only in the US exclusively from AT&T.Talks about a Zune-based mobile phone from Microsoft are not entirely new. Ever since the launch of the Zune, there's been a buzz doing the rounds of industry. The device is described as being used for ?consumer broadband access and networking?. Microsoft goes on to say that the device would use OFDM as its communications protocol, not WiFi or Bluetooth. Well, why not? The standard OFDM (orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing) is a modulation scheme that is used widely in upcoming 4G standards of the future. But with wireless access gaining momentum, and the all-around arms ...
