Long awaited Windows XP SP3 RTM launching on April 21

Apple announced the MacBook Air which boasts of being the slimmest notebook around. The laptop measure only .16-inches and is slim enough to slip into a manila envelope. The lappie features a full-size keyboard and LED-back lit 13.3-inch display with built-in iSight. It also sports a new larger track pad that supports multi-touch gestures. Similar to the interface of the iPhone where you can pinch in or pan out, the MacBook Air?s track pad allows you to do the same, it even allows you to rotate images with two fingers, and move windows with a flick. Stanford University researchers have found a way to use silicon nanowires to give rechargeable lithium-ion (Li-Ion) batteries--used in laptops, iPods, video cameras, and mobile phones--as much as 10 times more charge. Samsung Electro-Mechanics announced that it has developed a micro-fuel cell and hydrogen generator that runs on H20. When the mobile handset is turned on, metal and water in the phone react to produce hydrogen gas which is then supplied to the Samsung micro-fuel cell where it reacts with oxygen in the air to generate power. While other fuel cells need methanol to produce hydrogen Samsung?s micro-fuel cell needs only water. Since the micro-fuel cell can generate up to three watts of electricity, it could be used in mobile devices, the company said. The new fuel cell could power a handset for 10 hours, twice as long as rechargeable batteries.Water-powered handsets are expected to hit the market by 2010. At Ceatec 2007 in Tokyo, Hitachi showcased experimental 4 layered Blu-Ray discs which can hold upto 100GB of data. The company is working on signal quality stabilization in addition to changing the lens focus so it can read and write data on 4 layers. Hitachi is also researching 8 layer Blu-Ray media which can hold upto 200GB of data but with 8 layers the reflected laser from the disc decreases which weakens the signal. However by boosting the signal the data on the disc can be accessed.Panasonic has developed a royal purple laser system for Blu-Ray which supports 8X speed. Intel is on schedule to launch its next key computer chip - a product code named Penryn - on Nov. 12., the company announced Tuesday.The Santa Clara company also demonstrated a working version of Penryn's successor - Nehalem - at its semi-annual developers forum for hardware designers in San Francisco.During a keynote address kicking off the event, Chief Executive Paul Otellini used the twin announcements to argue that Intel remains in fighting trim."We're cranking up full scale production in two fabs with 45-nanometer" technology, the manufacturing technology that will produce Penryn and later Nehalem, Otellini said during a Q&A session following his speech. "We think this is a sustainable competitive advantage."The company's 45-nanometer technology will produce smaller chips that can run faster and use energy more efficiently.
