Destroy Your Computer in Seven Steps: Steps 4-7
2007-09-14 09:25:00 Step 4 - The Vacuum. Ah, yes, the vacuum. A great tool for cleaning your house, but not your computer. I decided that when I was working on my computer that it would be a good idea to clean it while I had it out of the case. I pulled out my vacuum, flipped the switch, and inevitably doomed my computer. While vacuums may work fine for cleaning the case, and may get the dust out of all the nooks and crannies of your motherboard, they are very dangerous. Vacuums can cause a great amount of static electricity (the bad stuff we learned about earlier). This could shock your computer and destroy the circuits. In addition to that danger, there is another risk. Unless you have very small attachments for your vacuum, the hoses and nozzles are very big and clumsy. You could easily knock a capacitor loose or break it off. This would cause major problems. While this might be less likely to happen than the static shock, it is still a concern.Don?t worry, though, there are other ways to clean compu... More About: Computer , Steps

PC Buying Tips for Students
2007-09-08 12:17:00 1. Desktop, notebook, or tablet. If you like to type notes in class or work on papers in the library (or the quad), choose a notebook. Tablets work well in classrooms because the writing is noiseless, and if the professor draws diagrams, you can too. If you'd rather have high performance over portability, and cost is a top priority, choose a desktop. 2. Picking the right processor. For a desktop system, you don't necessarily need the fastest processor. A 2.5-GHz (or equivalent) processor will get you through even the toughest class workload. To help with better multitasking, go with one of the new dual-core CPUs, such as the Intel Pentium D or the AMD Athlon 64 X2. When picking a notebook, look for a mobile processor that's strong but won't run down your battery too fast. Research the battery life. Not all systems fare the same even with the same processor; battery lives vary from 2 to 5.5 hours. 3. How far to go with graphics. If your schoolwork is basic word ... If, for some reason, the Vista installation gets interrupted due to an unintentional shutdown or reboot, start the computer without booting the Vista DVD. Windows Vista's installer should pick up where it left off. If it does-n't, then restart the installation over from scratch. 4. When you perform a search with Vista's new, instant search feature, you can save the search in a special folder. This powerful feature allows you to create a virtual folder which, by default, is saved in your \Searches folder. Every time you open such a folder, the search results are updated. 5.
