Online Sexually Explicit Content Not Accepted Anymore
2007-12-31 08:04:00 By: Bogdan PopaVietnam is that kind of country that struggles to regulate the content appearing on the residents' blogs, although we all know it's pretty difficult to do such a thing. But according to AFP, the Deputy Information and Communications Minister, Do Quy Doan, aims to reduce the amount of subversive and sexually explicit content published on the blogs by releasing guidelines supposed to help the bloggers control their material. This is a pretty applaudable initiative, as the Vietnamese official considers that "controlling weblogs is about developing them in accordance with the law, not forbidding them", as AFP added."We should provide guidelines that help people know what type of information they can upload online. Once we have obvious regulations, I think no one will be able to supervise weblogs better than the bloggers themselves", Doan said according to AFP."It's alright some bloggers have recently showed their patriotism, posting opinions about the Paracels-Spratly ... Now This Is a Serious Windows File Infector!
2007-12-31 08:00:00 By: Bogdan PopaWe've seen similar infections in the past, but since this is a new one, it may bypass your antivirus and reach the files stored on your drives. PE_PAGIPEF.AD-O is that kind of infection that targets your executable files, so that some of them may become unusable because the file infector adds its codes at the beginning and at the end of the target file, security vendor Trend Micro wrote in an advisory published a few days ago. Windows 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP and Server 2003, they may be all infected with PE_PAGIPEF.AD-O.And now, the most important two questions: how do we get infected and how do we remove the virus? Your computer can be easily cleaned with an up-to-date antivirus, but there are several ways to get infected. Trend Micro informs that PE_PAGIPEF.AD-O can be dropped on your system by unknowingly downloading it or can be also deployed by another infection. Simple as that! It's hard to discover the file infector on your computer, because it is pretty smart an... More About: File
BitTorrent Website Officially Dead
2007-12-31 07:52:00 By: Bogdan PopaThe fight against the BitTorrent services, which have been accused for distributing or for supporting the distribution of pirated content, made a new victim. Demonoid, the BitTorrent service that was first closed in November, is still unavailable and it seems that a resurrection is not yet possible. In case you missed the news, Demonoid was first closed on November 9th, after many similar websites had been shut down due to an impressive action started by the authorities. According to a message posted on the old Demonoid page, the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA) won the battle with the BitTorrent service and closed the website."The CRIA threatened the company renting the servers to us, and because of this it is not possible to keep the site online. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your understanding", the message posted on the page reads."We have brought online a forum in order to help the community stay together. Blogger Websites Full of Fake Codec Trojans
2007-12-31 07:46:00 By: Bogdan PopaThe fake codec Trojans that affected so many websites are back. These days, they are being spread through Google Blogger 's pages that host all sorts of content. Yesterday, Alex Eckelberry of Sunbelt informed that an avalanche of fake codecs was discovered on numerous Blogger accounts, which looked similar to the old scams conducted on malicious pornographic websites. Searching for common keywords, such as "NFL playoff bracket video" or "deviled egg recipe video", on Google's search engine, returns a number of Blogger blogs equipped with fake codecs that attempt to deploy Trojan horses on your computer."Often, they are seen in porn sites. However, by doing a few simple searches today, we can see that they’re available to those simply doing American football pools, checking bank hours or searching for New Year’s eve clipart. All of these are taking advantage of the free Blogger service", the Sunbelt official wrote in the blog post published today.Just like usual, ... More About: Websites , Codec , Fake
Windows Worm Using Your Computer for Flood Attacks
2007-12-31 07:34:00 By: Bogdan PopaWORM_RBOT.HBZ is the latest threat spotted in the wild that targets the Windows systems and attempts to drop its files on most versions of the Microsoft operating system including 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP and Server 2003. The worm was discovered by security company Trend Micro, which wrote that it could easily reach your system because it might be deployed by other malware, or directly, when a user visits a malicious website. Just like other similar worms, WORM_RBOT.HBZ attempts to create new registry entries to be sure its files are executed every time the operating system is fully loaded. But what's more important is that it automatically scans the network shares to drop its files and spread itself on the network. "It searches the network for certain shares, into which it attempts to drop copies of itself", Trend Micro wrote in the advisory. And this is not enough. The Windows worm wants to open a random port to enable the attacker to connect to the vulnerable system and... More About: Computer , Worm , Attacks , Flood |
