The Truth About Sunblock!!!

Until recently, sunblock protected against UVB rays but NOT UVA rays. UVB rays cause burns while UVA rays cause wrinkles and a greater risk of skin cancer. So, you have to wonder, why would American sunscreens opt out of UVA protection?In America, the amount of UVA protection is not quantified, however, in Europe it is. Thus, we end up with SPF protection of up to 70 yet little to no protection against the harsh and potentially deadly rays of UVA.Mexoryl, a breakthrough ingredient creating buzz through it's ability to protect against UVA filters, is commonly used in European sunscreens but rarely used in American ones. This is due to the FDA not approving the ingredient.However, in 2006, L'oreal, which also owns the patent to Mexoryl, was given the go ahead to use the drug in their sunscreens. I'm completely obsessed with Jurlique products. They're soothing, all-natural, and non-abrasive. They don't irritate my sensitive skin and I always walk away from the mirror with a slight glow to my sometimes dull complexion.I was equally as enamored (okay, fine, I was OBSESSED) when I tried Jurlique's Citrus Skin Finishing Powder (previously called "Silk Dust"). It's meant to rebalance the oils in your skin (God knows my oils could use some heavy-duty rebalancing!) - to be used on a freshly-cleansed face prior to make-up. Okay, so I didn't want to have to do this but... there was an article written in The New York Times about the beauty blogging industry and well, let's just say that it was skewed quite a bit.Click HERE to read the full article.Apparently, the writer of the piece felt it necessary to insult beauty bloggers, making it sound like we only blog for the free swag. For the record, I blog because beauty is my passion. I love to discover new products and pass them along to my blogging friends who are just as impassioned as I. And as many ladies out there know, a tube of lipstick or a free body scrub doesn't pay my rent, my car payments, my insurance... nada. What it does do, however, is allow me to stay abreast with the beauty industry, test products that I otherwise may not have the financial means to test, and then review it, and post the honest review on my blog for all to see!I will keep blogging because I love beauty and although I may not be a beauty editor at some snazzy fashion...

L.A.'s recent bout of cold and rain doesn't bode very well with my hair. Unlike most, my hair actually basks in humid climates. I've been on five planes in the past eleven days and FINALLY I'm home (back in L.A.). Flying isn't exactly the best for your skin... or your health. Not only is it terribly dehydrating, it's also dirty and the recycled air in the cabin of the plane actually recycles the germs and bacteria. YUCK.So here are my radiant skin travel tips:ALWAYS use a MAJOR moisturizer prior to boarding the plane (and keep the moisturizer in your purse for periodic retouches). I've just stumbled upon a new hand cream (thanks to my friends at the Silver Spoon Beauty Buffet) and it is phenominal!I've spent the past 4 out of 8 days on planes, thus my hands are cracked and severely dehydrated. But my magical tube of Frilly Lilly Lemongrass Sage Hand Cream saved the day (and salvaged my poor hands)!I love the entire product from the packaging (girly and pink... so purrrty) to the smell (clean and fresh like lemongrass).
