The Dreaded L Shirt
2008-04-07 13:22:00
It looks like anime is still be shadowed by people who think of it as “Too Hot for TV” and “Definitely not for Children!” genres of the early 90’s. Several years ago, the warnings went away when Pokemon was at the height of popularity among young children, and Spirited Away won an Oscar for “Best Animated Feature”. Things aren’t the same anymore. Thanks to Absolute Boyfriend and Death Note, people have second opinions of this niche because of various themes that are considered “immoral”. There’s one problem involving an anime that I’m a huge fan of that could have gotten out of hand if someone took it personally. It happened last month when I went into a Wal-Mart, wearing this T-Shirt of L from Death Note. I got a few weird stares from people who didn’t seem interested in what was on the shirt–and it wasn’t the type of people who wears a Bleach hoodie, along with a Naruto headband. It was the ...
The Azeroth Journal [April 2008 Issue]
2008-04-05 19:22:00
The April 2008 issue of The Azeroth Journal is light this month. Not much went down in March…We are doing good with guild progression, but we have hit some snags with raid participation for 25-man instances. We’re very good with Karazhan, in which Nightbane dropped a new robe ([Robe of the Elder Scribes]) to replace my [Imbued Netherweave Robe] that I’ve been wearing a little after I hit Level 70, several months ago… Due to running this blog, and some minor family problems, my time on WoW is limited only to raids. However, I managed to complete a bunch of level 65+ quests in Blade’s Edge Mountains when I had a few hours to spare after wiping several times on Void Reaver in The Eye. Let’s try again in Volume Two in a couple of weeks, along with my experiences on the Isle of Quel’Danas. The Addon list will be there as well. How do you feel about Subs or Dubs?
2008-04-04 14:00:00
This is a very controversial discussion in the anime community: Subbed vs. Dubbed. It seems the majority of anime lovers, who have been fans for more than 5 years, say subbed, while newbies who watch their anime on [Adult Swim] say dubbed. Honestly, this situation has been getting out of hand. Many anime forums I visit, I see a lot of asinine comments, such as “The Naruto dub sucks a$$,” which bothers me the most. For me, it depends on the dub actors. I grew up watching dubbed anime. I’ve been through Pokemon, Dragonball Z, Gundam Wing–just about every anime that aired on Toonami back in 1999-2001. Watching subbed anime was a challenge for me, as a newbie. I would get disappointed when I wasn’t able to hear English speaking actors. Eventually, I grew into it, and I now watch many subbed anime, from Bleach to Naruto, everyday. However, watching subbed anime doesn’t stop me from watching the same thing, dubbed. I do not watch the Naruto dub, not be...

Ni-Ongaku Spotlight: Porno Graffiti?s ?MELISSA?
2008-04-04 13:24:00
For those who have yet to watch Fullmetal Alchemist have a reason to check it out. The next video in the Ni-Oangaku Spotlight series is “MELISSA” from Porno Graffiti . The song is the first opening theme to the anime, “Fullmetal Alchemist”. When I first heard this song, I had no idea it was a theme to an anime that I debated about checking out back when fansubs were huge–and not just on the subject of privacy. After FUNimation got a hold of rights to Fullmetal Alchemist in 2004, I had to wait until the fall to check it out on Adult Swim (hey, I had dial-up at the time). Unfortunately, MELISSA isn’t anywhere to be found during the broadcast version, thanks to plugs for the now defunct Tofu Records’ domestic releases of L’arc-En-Ciel’s “SMILE” (”READY STEADY GO”) and Asian Kung-Fu Generation’s “????” (”Rewrite”). However, it’s on the Region 1 DVD release, which is an excuse...

[Report] JAMPcon 2008 w/ Pictures!
2008-04-02 11:53:00
Sorry for the delay, minna-san! After a few days of resting up and messing around with WordPress 2.5, I have my impressions of Chattanooga’s first anime convention! Originally, I said there were 140 photos, but most of them are landmarks taken around the Choo Choo and the same cosplay photos taken without the flash… I plan to upload the rest on Flickr, and maybe Cosplay.com, depending on the conditions. On with the show! Day One On the first day of JAMPcon, there wasn’t much for me to do. The dealer’s room opened up at noon, where I finally got my hands on a Death Note (don’t worry, it’s not real), two Bleach and one Naruto posters, Volume 3 of the Excel Saga anime, and a few Shitajiki, featuring Bleach and Death Note characters. After that, I went to the opening ceremonies, marking the first year of Chattanooga’s first anime convention! After the ceremonies ended, I walked around the trains in front of The Gardens restaurant, where I ran ...

[Video] I?ll Take This Note?AND EAT IT!
2008-04-01 07:00:00
It’s that time of the year again…April 1st… What’s so special about it? Well, it’s probably because things out of the ordinary occur and they go back to normal on the 2nd. April 1st is April Fool’s Day! (Un)fortunately, there’s no jokes for CEN.TAKU.ME this year, but instead I bring a video that will raise eyebrows, especially fans of the series, Death Note . This is a skit of Death Note that originally aired on “SMAPxSMAP” in 2007. “SMAPxSMAP” is a variety show of the Japanese boyband, SMAP. It’s the same story–but instead of a victim dying of a heart attack, they get gain weight… Oh, and the title of this post refers to this video. Worst. Server. Ever. - Part III: World of Warcraft
2008-03-31 12:07:00
The final installment of Worst. Server . Ever. is out, and I am going to talk about two servers in the World of Warcraft that left a bad taste in my mouth. Now that this series is over, I have some final thoughts noted at the end of this post, and maybe why you would have a better chance on one of these realms than I did. Click to read more… World of Warcraft Realm: Aerie Peak Aerie Peak is the “Worst. Realm. Ever.” because of the high population of morons–er…”unskilled 221; players. I tried to give this server a chance, but I couldn’t take it anymore–and this was the same day I registered my account for the first time. Things went downhill from the starting area, Northshire Abbey, right after I finished watching the Human prologue… 1) After getting to level 3 and ran to the nearest Quest NPC, I was slapped at by a player. It was probably because I ran in-front of him. It’s strange for him to do that–because I co...

CEN.TAKU.ME Updates [3/31/2008]
2008-03-31 07:30:00
I returned from JAMPcon yesterday, and I have about 140 photos, though I do not have a single photo with me in a group. I didn’t think about it handing my camera to someone in all the excitement (Silly me ^^). However, I did have a lot of photo opportunities. Some of them will probably be on the JAMPcon website, or on Cosplay.com… While I was gone, WordPress 2.5 came out! Posting the photos via the new gallery feature should be a breeze now, but I need a secondary place to host them for the public. As for the recently installed Gallery2 area, I will probably close it off in favor of the WordPress gallery. I plan to upgrade to 2.5 within the next 24 hours as soon as I finish the write-up, but I need to catch up with other things, so it’s likely that the report will be delayed until Wednesday, but the upgrade will be done ASAP. Stay tuned! Copyright © 2007-2008 This feed is for personal, non-commercial use only. The use of this feed on other websites violates co...

Anime at Large: The Big O
2008-03-29 13:43:00
The Big O…Just another Mecha anime. Perhaps the best Mecha anime I have ever watched! Premiering on Toonami in 2001, at first, I was turned off by it, because it looked too much like Batman: The Animated Series of the early 90’s. I finally gave in and watched Big O after its move over to Adult Swim in 2002 when anime took up most of their airtime before Family Guy and Futurama reruns took their place. Unfortunately, it was still edited for blood, innuendo and profanity from the Toonami airing. Shortly after the re-airing, a second season was announced. It took them a long time for them to make another season, in 2003, of a show that started in 1999. It could have something to do with the cliffhanger ending of the first season when it aired on Toonami and again on Adult Swim. If it wasn’t on AS, we would never see the true ending of Big O. The story of The Big O follows a negotiator by the name of Roger Smith, (who looks like he could be Phoenix Wright’s fathe...

Off to JAMPcon!
2008-03-28 03:12:00
I’m heading off to JAMPcon in the morning. I hope I won’t miss the Opening Ceremonies. They should have a schedule out by now. However, their website is down, but their forums is still up, though I haven’t have the time to check them out. I’m hoping to get there around 9 AM so I can get my badge and check out the place and take lots of pictures. ^_^ I’ll be there all weekend. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to bring my laptop with me, so I will not be able to post and reply to comments and e-mails until Sunday night (or on Monday if I happen to get really tired). However, the blog is on auto-pilot, meaning I have posts scheduled to publish while I’m gone, so feel free to comment. I finally made a decision of who I’m cosplaying as. I am going to be Rukia Kuchiki. I was also going to go as Iruka, but after some speculations, I do not have the right pants for him. The pants that came with the costume was a bit tight around the waist…...
[Guide] Getting Around While Your Hearthstone?s on Cooldown
2008-03-27 21:42:00
Have you ever had that problem of getting around Azeroth (and Outland), and your Hearthstone is on its cooldown timer? No Mages around to teleport you? Well, I have the solution in this short guide–and it won’t cost you anything! None of those power leveling gimmicks in this guide, and it’s hack free! Start in Shattrath City (you need to be at least level 62 to get there on your own, or ask a Mage friend for a teleport to Shattrath at any level) Queue up for a battleground. You can enter the following battlegrounds if your toon is under these minimum levels: - Warsong Gulch: Level 10-19 - Arathi Basin: Level 20-29 - Alterac Valley: Level 50-60 - Eye of the Storm: Level 60-69 - Arenas: Level 70 for Rated; Any levels for Skirmishes Go to a major city in Azeroth. For Horde: Ogrimmar, Thunder Bluff, Undercity, Silvermoon City. For Alliance: Stormwind, Darnassus, Ironforge, Exodar Wait until your queue window pops-up and enter. Play as usual until the battle is over On...

The Gallery is Open for Business!
2008-03-26 03:05:00
In preparation of the upcoming convention season (and to give my new Sanyo E760 something to “smile” about!), I decided to create my own gallery to upload convention/cosplay photos easily, Flickr-style. After trying Flickr out, I wasn’t happy with the features given to free members: 100 MB bandwidth limit per month, 3 photo sets, and all of the photos won’t show if you have 200 or more unless you search or direct link to them. I could have gotten the Pro account for $25 a year, but it’s not worth it since I could just use Gallery 2 and host it on my blog for $4 a month. I have a World of Warcraft subscription to keep up… Right now, only administrators can upload photos. I plan to allow others to upload their own photos in the future. As for the kind of photos that will be displayed, it will focus on only convention and cosplay-related photos. The only album online are photos from Anime Central 2006. There’s not many decent photos since I did ...

Worst. Server. Ever. - Part II: Final Fantasy XI
2008-03-24 15:42:00
Part Two of Worst. Server . Ever. is here, and I’m going to discuss Final Fantasy XI this week. This is another server that went bad when it was fresh… Click to read more… Final Fantasy XI Realm: Remora Ah, Remora. The first–and only–server I played on. I had brief stints on Ragnarok (the server) and Carbuncle, but I made good friends on Remora. I made more than ten friends on this server–three of them I dropped after a couple of days. Unfortunate Events 1) During the first few hours of playing FFXI, a player decided to help me out. He showed me the shop to buy spells, he helped me gain a couple of levels–every little thing he did to help a newbie out. Then the time came when I had to log off. I only spent a few hours playing that night, as I was tired and growing ill from a flu (during the Christmas season). After I made my announcement of leaving so early, he responded with a “Bye…F___ U”. 2) There were bad players I ...

[Video] New WoW Commercial Featuring? Edward Elric?!
2008-03-23 09:45:00
Yep, there’s a new WoW commercial featuring everyone’s favorite Alchemist, Edward Elric. And by Edward Elric, I mean Vic Mignogna (Sorry, Romi Park fans!). [/Pre-April Fools Joke] Before anyone starts asking if this commercial is real, it’s not–it’s a parody of the World of Warcraft commercials, featuring Mr. T, William Shatner, Verne Troyer, and for French WoW players, Jean Claude Van-Damme. For those who don’t know who Vic is, he’s a well known English Dub voice actor who did the voice of Edward Elric in Fullmetal Alchemist, as well as Broly in the Dragonball Z movies, “Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan”, “Broly: Second Coming”, and “Bio-Broly” and as Kurz Webber in Full Metal Panic. This video took me by surprise when I saw it on WoWInsider. I actually met Vic at Anime Central in 2005, and he’s a really nice guy! This commercial is a must-see if you’re a Risembool Rangers supporter and a WoW...

I haven’t done these in a while. Since I won’t be posting much this week so I get things together for a upcoming local event (*hint*), I’m going to keep readers busy with stories I found on Anime News Network. The good thing about this is that I haven’t been to these site in a few weeks. If I haven’t seen it, it’s new(s) to me. ^_^ There’s good news and bad news. First, the good news: Blue Dragon finally gets an air date! The Series Premiere is set for next Saturday at 10:30 PM EDT. I’ll have something to watch when I get back from the convention. The bad news: Dragonball Z is nowhere to be found in the schedule since Blue Dragon takes the time slot. Speaking of Blue Dragon, a new series in the franchise is set to air next month in Japan. The controversy over Death Note is heating up in America: a student was expelled from a school in South Carolina for having a replica of the Death Note with fellow student’s names written in i...

For those with a Playstation 3 collecting dust, wipe them off! Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will be released worldwide (Yes, Japan, North America and Europe on the same day) on June 12, 2008. WordPress 2.5 Sneak Peak
2008-03-20 09:54:00
I am looking forward to the next release of WordPress: Version 2.5. This version will have built-in Gravatars, customizable dashboard, and built-in image gallery. The WordPress blog has a sneak peak of the new features, as well as the first Release Candidate available for download! For now, I will wait for the final version. Azeroth Journal [March 2008 Issue; Volume 2]
2008-03-19 21:46:00
I Saw the Sign… I am so glad I left a guild I talked about in the last issue of “Azeroth Journal ” (02/2008; Vol. 2). It seems all they did was made everyone upset by using inappropriate jokes. Now I can confirm that’s not all they did. This one member in particular I’m talking about fits the description of this guild–if not the guild I was kicked from on Stormreaver. We invited a player into a regular Steamvaults group to fill the empty space for the daily quest. We had everyone accounted for: a Rogue, Druid (Tank), Priest (Holy), Warlock (yours truly), and another Priest (Disc/Holy)…The player in question. Things were going well, until the first boss battle, where I had my doubts. The Priest warned me to get out of the way from the adds in the boss room–BUT IN ALL CAPS, LIKE THIS!! I saw the warning, but I couldn’t move immediately, since I was on on duty to Banish the additional mobs that just wore off… When we approache...

[Review] Death Note
2008-03-19 12:39:00
Series: Death Note Studio: Mad House Year: 2006-2007 Type: Series Episodes: 37 Summary: Light Yagami picks up a notebook that will change his live forever… After a year and a half since I was drawn into the Death Note storyline, I finally have a review on why this controversial series is a favorite among fans. This review refers to the manga version, but the anime is just as great, if not better! Warning: This post contains spoilers! Read at your own risk! Review : “The Death Note is the worst murder weapon in the world” It is a terrible way to rid of someone you don’t like. To Light Yagami, it was the best weapon he could get his hands on. When the notebook fell into the human world, Light was reluctant to try it out. After testing it out on a few subjects, he is now being followed by an odd companion: a Shinigami (Death God), by the name of Ryuk. Ryuk explains to Light how to use the notebook. After using the notebook again, he decided to use it for an act ...

CEN.TAKU.ME Cosplay Corner [Issue #2]
2008-03-17 23:06:00
I’m really excited about JAMPcon next week. I still haven’t decided who I am going to go as; Rukia Kuchiki (Bleach) or Iruka (Naruto). Originally, I was going to buy a costume of Rukia in her gigai, but I don’t think I would feel comfortable in a skirt on a possibly cool, early Spring afternoon… So I purchased a Shinigami Rukia costume, and a prop Bushido sword from f.y.e., and I’m ready to go! This photo you see is me as Kakashi-sensei! It was taken about a year ago on my camera phone. He’s a candidate for the next conventions I may attend, but it’s going to be two, or one if I ever make up my mind, characters per convention at the moment. My choices for JAMPcon will probably be like this: Friday: Iruka Saturday: Rukia Sunday: Iruka, Rukia, or regular clothes. (Hmm…it’s funny that Rukia and Iruka’s names have the same letters, lol) After JAMPcon, there’s going to be MTAC in Nashville, but I may not be able to make i...

Worst. Server. Ever. - Part I: Ragnarok Online
2008-03-17 18:44:00
I was searching around for horror stories of players having bad experience on realms/world/servers of a MMORPG to alleviate the my difficulty of getting around with griefing Alliance and lazy Horde players on my old server. After moving to another realm in the World of Warcraft, I love it here. There’s not a lot of Alliance players, compared to the old server I used to play on, and many Horde players are willing to help whenever a player gets ganked. I don’t mind getting attacked once in a while, but it was way too much to handle, even to level up. Worst. Server . Ever. is a three-part series not only about World of Warcraft’s realms I played on, it’s also about servers I used to call home during my days as a Ragnarok Online and Final Fantasy XI player. They range from the inhabitants, to the whole realm. I have always been nice to people. However, it seems that I get ignored whenever I help someone out. I have never yelled at anyone for messing up. I never br...

Series: Samurai Deeper Kyo Studio: Studio Deen Episodes: 26 Episodes watched so far: 3 What’s going on so far?: Warning: This post contains spoilers! Read at your own risk! Kyoshiro and Yuya arrive in a village who are afraid of visitors in the wake of the reemergence of Demon Eyes Kyo. Along the way, they meet Benitora, a recent recruit of the Sansaishuu clan. He reminds me of the tall haired guy from Ruroni Kenshin. Not Sanosuke–but that guy that Sanosuke called a Chicken (somewhere in the middle if the series). After hearing word of strangers in town, the villagers–including Shiro, a bad guy/demon (who looks like an evil, adult version of Toshiro from Bleach)–surround the shrine… Speaking of Ruroni Kenshin, this show reminds me of it. Ni-Ongaku Spotlight: Ketsumeishi?s ?Sakura?

The next song in the Ni-Ongaku Spotlight series is ??? by the Japanese Pop-Reggae band,??????. It is one of my favorite songs from the group. I got into Ketsumeishi from a friend I met on an anime forum a few years ago. He sent me “?????“, which I fell in love with. Originally, I was going to show the video for ????? instead of Sakura –but it’s no longer available… The video shows a Salaryman meeting a girl sitting under a cherry blossom tree. They start going out, until one day she snaps and walks out on him. Things were going very well. Azeroth Journal [March 2008 Issue]
2008-03-06 01:33:00
Karazhan, at last! After leaving a guild, and joining a new one, created by a Mage friend, we cleared Karazhan in our first week of existence. I applied for another guild (AJ 02/2008 Iss. - Vol. 2), but after a Rogue friend was turned down by the very same guild, we decided to make a guild just for us: the under-geared. Sunday night, we ran through the first 5 bosses in Karazhan. I got 2 new upgrades: [Spectral Band of Innervation] (From Attumen the Huntsman) and [Bands of Nefarious Deeds] (From Maiden of Virtue). I realized that I never died the first night in Karazhan. I almost did during the Shade of Aran fight, with 600 HP remaining. I somehow managed to survive. Monday night concluded our first Karazhan run, as we cleared through the last bosses but a few since we weren’t properly prepared–gear and healer wise. I got two more upgrades! [Talisman of Nightbane] (Dropped from Nightbane), and [Helm of the Fallen Hero] (Dropped from Prince Malchezaar), which I turned i...

[Video] Crazy Stairs!
2008-02-28 17:36:00
This video was made on a World of Warcraft private server (Yes, it is illegal to make and play on these kind of servers). It’s called “The Staircase Event”. Players run all the way to the top of 3000+ stairs to win a prize. It looks like a very few players made it to the top. The video is 10 minutes long…Whoever made this event had a lot of time of their hands, other than running heroics or Black Temple. It looks like fun, though. ^_^ [Source: WoWInsider] Copyright © 2007-2008This feed is for personal, non-commercial use only. The use of this feed on other websites violates copyright law. I picked up two new Death Note books at Books-A-Million Saturday afternoon. One of them is Volume 13, called “How to Read ”. [Preview] Dragon Ball Online
2008-02-24 15:04:00
The wish of an online multi-player mode in a Dragon ball Z game came true for Wii owners of Budokai Tenkaichi 3. Now, a Dragon Ball MMORPG is up at bat. Introducing, Dragon Ball Online . DBO was announced last April in South Korea, where it is currently under-going private beta testing. Specific features are unclear at the moment, but the trailer lives up to the hopes of what’s to come when fans get the chance to run around as their favorite Saiya-jin or Namekian. From the looks of the trailer, players get to go back in time (a’la History of/Trunks Saga) and face foes. There are a few recognizable characters so far (Goku, Vegeta and Trunks). Dragon Ball Online would give players an excuse to mimic a certain meme. [Scan Source: Juex France (French)] Copyright © 2007-2008This feed is for personal, non-commercial use only.
