CHAS...the Ag School

He told us that they have kids roaming the halls that do not even go to school there, and he is trying to find another job, because he doesn't feel safe there. read more More About: Mount Greenwood

LSC or advisory council?
2008-03-04 19:00:00 In February representatives from local school councils sued Chicago Public Schools over whether the Board of Education violated state law when it disbanded the LSCs of two high schools in 2003 and replaced them with advisory councils for each of the new, smaller schools. The issue involves transforming local school councils - which nominate and vote for candidates for principal - into advisory councils - which merely select up to three candidates who are then chosen by CEO Arne Duncan. read more More About: Council

If you've got some lying around, let us know. Or send them to us. Or log on and post them yourself. The former Mount Greenwood Branch of the Chicago Public Library wasn't the sexiest of buildings, but the photo of it does give us a look into the neighborhood's history. More About: Mount Greenwood

Burke empowered - and bounded - by last name
2008-02-08 03:40:00 By Rob Runyan Medill Reports - Chicago Anne Burke is empowered and bounded by her last name. Of course, that was her choice. Anne McGlone, a South Side native, married Edward Burke in 1968, when they were both 24, and has been a Burke, for better or worse, ever since. For many years her career took a backseat to his, as he became one of the youngest alderman ever and eventually the longest serving currently. Meanwhile, Anne raised her four children, and also devoted her considerable energy to the Chicago Parks District where she helped found the Chicago Special Olympics. read more More About: Politics , Neighbors
