Can the Digg counter be broken?

I think the first time I saw the Digg counter go above the normal count was for the “Click if your computer screen is dirty.” story. On the main page, the badge appeared as 16K+. I wonder, what would happen if that number went to (or over) 100k? Does the site have a badge prepared for numbers that high? Does the site even have that many registered users? These are all questions I would like answered. Then I thought I would conduct my own little experiment. I don’t know if I have enough people to help me out. Most of my stories only get 10 or so Diggs. Maybe this will take off… who knows. Perhaps there are others out there with the same curiosity as I have. There’s only one way to find out!
