Beowulf
2007-11-13 20:46:00 In just a few days, Beowulf will be shown in theaters. Is anybody looking forward to watch Beowulf? I know I am. The reasons? Well one, it is a movie about one of the best mythological stories ever and two, Angelina Jolie is there. Yep, I'm Angelina Jolie's fan and I can't wait to see her computerized nude scene. If you haven't heard or read anything about it yet, most of the movie is CG.Anyway, Beowulf, if you're not aware, is the story of a warrior-hero named Beowulf who has slain the demon Grendel. With Grendel's death, the wrath of his deadly and seductive mother falls upon Beowulf. She wants revenge against the slayer of her son and she wants it bad.Beowulf, I forgot to mention, is an Anglo-Saxon epic poem that probably came to existence at around 700 AD. Despite it being of Anglo-Saxon origins, the plot and characters heavily relies on Danish and Swedish influences.Beowulf has a stellar cast lined up:Ray Winstone - BeowulfAnthony Hopkins - HrothgarJohn Malkovich - Unfert...
New Hitman movie
2007-11-10 20:37:00 Here are some stills for the new movie, Hitman , starring Timothy Olyphant. Hitman will hit the theaters on November 21. It's a movie based on a video game of the same title about a genetically-engineered assassin known only as Agent 47.I don't think I'll be watching this one, so those of you who are anticipating this movie, tell me what you think of it!Do note that the pictures are from JustJared. Movies based on Video Games?
2007-11-08 18:21:00 I recently found a blog that lists the different video game adapted movies that are in the making. I'm not sure if these will be good though, since these kinds of movies have had a history of destroying the game itself. It's pretty hard to assimilate video game characters into movies, unless of course, they use CG. I guess it's due to the fact that the actors they get to play a character looks anything but the character (with the exception of Angelina Jolie in Tomb Raider). Plus, the plot of the movies somehow manage to destroy the fans' image of their favorite video games. I dunno, but almost all of the video game adapted movies suck IMO. What do you guys think? Some of the upcoming movies are:Alice (2008)Alone in the Dark II (2009)Area 51 (2009)Assassin's Creed (TBA)Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars (2009)Castlevania (Late 2008 or Early 2009)Citizen Siege (2009)City of Heroes (2010)Clock Tower (2008)Cold Fear (2008)Death, Jr. (TBA)Devil May Cry (2010)Doom 2 (TBA)Driver (... 300? Nope, 301.
2007-11-03 19:41:00 300 -- That is, if you include King Leonidas of course. A lot of people have seen 300 and it's either they loved it, hated it or remained neutral when it came to their opinions about it. It's undeniable though that the action scenes are something that remains etched inside your head even after several months after watching the movie.Yeah, the action scenes. Plus the really great CG created especially to fit the theme of the movie: dark and foreboding. It's something that can be fully appreciated on the big screen instead of watching it at home, unless you have one of those big screen TVs that only the filthy rich can afford.Anyway, I've talked to some people who haven't seen 300. Bleh. You like missed half of your life.Kidding aside, 300 is a movie adaptation of Frank Miller's graphic novel of the same title. It's about King Leonidas who goes to war with 300 of his best Spartan men against the Persian Army (who are said to be in the millions or something). The Persians' god-...
Disney Princesses
2007-10-30 19:42:00 It kind of bothers me how pictures of the Disney Princesses almost always shows just Cinderella, Aurora, Snow White and Belle. We're lucky if Ariel's there; we're even luckier if Jasmine's remembered. But what about Mulan or Pocahontas or Anastasia. Heck, there's Megara and even Nala! Yes, I'm ranting and I'm well aware that these four princesses on the picture are the original Disney Princesses. My favorite Disney movies are Mulan, Pocahontas, The Lion King and Hercules. It's mostly the story plus the different approach to the artwork that drew me in. The other Disney Princesses movies all have the same plot: a girl meeting her prince charming. Quite boring, actually. What about you guys? Your favorite Disney Princess?
Underworld: Rise of the Lycans
2007-10-26 20:27:00 A new Underworld movie is on the way. Titled Rise of the Lycans, the third Underworld movie will focus on the werewolves this time. It's a prequel, so I don't think we'll be getting any Kate Beckinsale this time around. However, the movie will give the fans a background and will enlighten them as to how the feud between the Lycans and the Vampires started. The movie follows Lucian as he rises up to the top-most rank in the Lycans' clan. He arranges a revolt against their former masters, the Vampires, led by Viktor, the Lycans' enslaver. Together with his lover, Sonja, Lucian will battle against the very formidable bloodsucking armies of Viktor.Sounds interesting? Sounds like a flop? Well after the second Underworld movie, Underworld Evolution, I kinda got turned off with the story. If I'm going to watch the third Underworld movie, I'll probably catch it when it's featured on TV and not waste my time and money watching it on the big screen. But who knows right? Is anyone looking...

A picture from the upcoming Mummy 3 movie, Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, with Jet Li playing the Chinese emperor.I'm betting that this has really great fight scenes, considering the fact that Jet Li's in the movie. Some Legacies Must End
2007-10-22 20:36:00 "His father taught him to hate. His friends taught him rage. His enemies gave him hope."American History X -- This has got to be one of my favorite movies of all time. Maybe it's because of it's uniqueness as a movie, the plot, the dialogue...then again, it could just be Edward Norton. (He's a very good actor and you can't deny that.)American History X is a movie about Neo-Nazism. It's a movie about racism. It's a movie about hatred. It's a movie about enlightenment. It's a movie about self-acceptance. It's a movie about reformation. American History X is a movie about all these aspects of a person's life that are interwoven into one intricate story about one family's life.Meet Derek Vinyard. He's the leader of a Neo-Nazi group who are against everyone who aren't white Protestants. He goes to jail for manslaughter and gets released after serving only three years of his sentence. He's a changed man because of the multitude of experiences he had inside prison. Experience... More About: Some
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
2007-10-19 20:13:00 Crouching Tiger , Hidden Drago n -- Probably one of the saddest martial arts films I've ever seen, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon just brings in something new to movies of this genre. One thing that immediately makes this movie a great one is the cast. We have Chow Yun-Fat, Michelle Yeoh, Chang Chen and Zhang Zi Yi, plus, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is directed by the great Ang Lee himself. The story revolves around these four warriors you see on the picture. Chow Yun-Fat and Michelle Yeoh plays two seasoned warriors named Li Mu-bai and Yu Shu-lien respectively. The plot begins when Mu-bai tells Shu-lien that he wishes to surrender the Green Destiny - a sword he has been taking care of for a long time. Shu-lien agrees to deliver it to a friend of Mu-bai, a certain master, for safekeeping. There, she meets the daughter of the governor, Jen (Zhang Zi Yi), who tells Shu-lien that the is to be married despite her not loving the man. That night, the Green Destiny is stolen by a masked th...
Is Beek Out of the Creek?!
2007-10-17 20:03:00 Dawson's Cree k -- I remember watching Dawson's Creek back in 1998 when it was first aired. I couldn't understand the adult themes back then but I still liked watching it. Until it sucked. They put in too many characters and twisted the story so bad, I stopped watching the adventures of Dawson, Pacey, Jen and Joey.I still think that Dawson is butt-ugly. But that's my opinion. There's not much to the story except that it centers around the four friends and their teenage life in a fictional town called Capeside. Adulthood and the things related to it are mostly what the episodes are about, plus the teenage perspective of growing-up of course. It picked up where Beverly Hills, 90210 left off, and now, Dawson's Creek is considered a basis for teenage-angst-related TV shows like The OC and Gilmore Girls. As I said, I was kinda hooked to watching Dawson's Creek when I was a kid. Well, fine. I was waiting for it every Friday night at our local station. Ever since I started watching it,...
Cute Dinosaurs!
2007-10-15 20:19:00 Land Before Time -- A 1988 animated movie directed by Don Bluth, Land Before Time is a movie about 5 baby dinosaurs who were on a journey to find the Great Valley after their home was destroyed by an earthquake. The five dinosaurs are:Littlefoot - ApatosaurusCera - TricerotopsDucky - ParasaurolophusPetrie - PteranodonSpike - StegosaurusLittlefoot is the main character in the Land Before Time, the rest are his friends who help him go through any ordeal he encounters. The story basically revolves around Littlefoot...and for a dinosaur as young as he is, Littlefoot sure went through a whole lot.Oh the antagonist here is a Tyrannosaurus Rex, otherwise known as Sharptooth. Well I guess it's pretty obvious by now that the names of the characters in Land Before Time describe, or at least is associated with the type of dinosaurs who own the name.Land Before Time made me cry - both as a kid and as a 20-something kid-at-heart. The story is simple, but how they portrayed it moves a viewer to ... More About: Cute , Dinosaurs

2007-10-13 20:20:00 Wild Chronicles -- This is one of my favorite National Geographic documentary series. The reason is pretty obvious too: learning about animals is cool. Well at least I think it's cool.NatGeo's Wild Chronicles offers the viewers a different look at man's co-inhabitants on planet Earth. Viewers will get to learn more about the animals in a way that they rarely get to read in books. Besides, watching animals eat, run, sleep and do whatever they do best is better being watched than read, right?National Geographic describes Wild Chronicles as a look..."...at the human relationship with nature, highlighting breakthrough science that offers real hope for the future."Isn't that intriguing? You get to learn about the animals and at the same time, you get to learn how to protect them. It's a universal fact that we need animals, so before anyone launches an all-out protest against conglomerates and other people who harm animals, better learn what you're protecting first. That pretty much... More About: Kingdom , Vert
A Tale of Two Sisters
2007-10-12 21:34:00 A Tale of Two Sisters -- I admit that I'm a fan of Asian horror movies because I find them more interesting, creative and unique than their Western counterparts. One of the Asian horror movies that I enjoyed watching, aside from Ringu and Ju-on, is A Tale of Two Sisters.A Tale of Two Sisters is basically a psychological horror movie that centers on...two sisters. You didn't see that coming, did you? Don't worry, I won't give spoilers. Just a brief note on what the movie is about. The movie starts with the two sisters moving into their new home in the countryside where there father grew up. Their step-mother greeted them warmly (their mother just died) but the sisters dislike their new mother. The house started to resemble a prison for the girls because of the cold atmosphere brought by their step-mother. Soon, their step-mother changes horribly, and with her, the house changes too - giving way to sinister and horrific incidents that drive the sisters to the brink of insanity.That...
The Pagemaster
2007-10-10 21:50:00 Pagemaster -- I remember watching Pagemaster when I was around 9 years old (this was released on 1994, btw). I loved the whole live-action and animation combination throughout the movie. Well, it wasn't so much of a combination as compared to Who Framed Roger Rabbit? or Space Jam since the movie switches between live-action and animation, plus majority of the story is animated. For those of you who haven't heard of the Pagemaster yet, it's a movie that stars Macaulay Culkin as Richard. He was a timid boy who was fearful of a lot of things. His father decided to make a tree house for him but he's too scared to climb up and help his dad. So one day, his dad runs out of nails and asks Richard to buy some for him. On the way home, rain starts to pour heavily and Richard is forced to seek shelter at the library. There he meets the librarian, played by Christopher Lloyd, who quickly assumes that Richard is looking for a fiction book and sends Richard off to find one. On the X-Men movies...
2007-10-08 21:24:00 X-Men -- Just a quick poll, everyone! Highlander: The Source
2007-10-05 20:56:00 Highlander -- So has anyone seen the trailer for the new Highlander movie? Does anyone even know that there's a new Highlander movie? Well it's slated for release this year and it's the fifth Highlander movie to date.I read somewhere that it was already shown in America, aired by the Sci-Fi Channel, but when I watched Resident Evil the other day, I saw the trailer for Highlander: The Source , so I'm guessing that it will be shown here in our local cinemas.I can't wait for this one. If you've read my earlier post on the Highlander series, you'll get an idea of how much I like Highlander. Added to that, Adrian Paul, the original Duncan MacLeod, is the one starring in the movie. So that's double the "I can't wait for this one."Oh yeah, the plot. It's basically just a quest to find the Holy Grail so that the immortals can unlock the secrets of "The Source ". Ah but this time, as they race to find the secrets, the world of the near-future is on its path to destruction. So, is anyo... More About: Highlander
John Tucker Must Die?
2007-10-03 20:29:00 John Tucker Must Die -- Have you actually ever heard of this movie? Well, yeah, if you're a movie buff or someone who's watching the lives of celebrities, you probably have. But for someone not so interested in movies, I have to admit that I've never heard of John Tucker Must Die until my sister came home with a DVD copy of it.I thought it was some kind of suspense thriller given the title. I thought wrong. Dead wrong. It was another chick flick. I'm not a fan of chick flicks. I still watched in nonetheless and wasted like an hour and a half of my life watching girls get revenge from a guy who played them. Ah, don't take me wrong though. Just because I implied that it wasn't any good, my sister liked it. So buy the DVD (I made it easy for you and placed a link there.) and just see for yourself.Oh but there were some parts that made me laugh. Like laugh, laugh... Not "laugh" because the whole movie is pointless. Did you just get that? I kinda confused myself there.Anyway, the pl... More About: John
Let's All Take A Trip To...
2007-10-01 20:55:00 The Magic School Bus -- Does anyone actually remember this show? It's been aired so long ago that I doubt kids these days remember it at all. I watch Magic School Bus when I was a kid and I learned a lot about science. Just the basic, kid stuff.(Looking back, I realize that the Magic School Bus creators must be high at that time.)Anyway, as I mentioned, the Magic School Bus is a kids' show that featured different science concepts with each episode. The multi-cultural children and their teacher, Ms. Frizzle, all go on a field trip every time to learn the concepts presented during class. They board the Magic School bus and then the fun begins. The Magic School Bus can be anything: a space ship, submarine, shrinking machine... Anything that the class needs for them to learn the lesson. How COOL is that, right? Right? RIGHT?It's actually a good way to teach your kids science before the internet was easily accessible to anyone.. But then, who wants to read long articles with graphs and... More About: Trip
Silent Hill left me silent
2007-09-28 20:27:00 Hey look, it's Pyramid Head!Silent Hill -- I remember watching this at a big cinema, last full show, with very few people watching besides me. I admit that I never really got around to playing the game, mainly because I'm such a scaredy-cat.Now onto the story...A woman brings her daughter to a town called Silent Hill as a response to her daughter calling out for the place while her sleepwalking became more dangerous. A car crash that involved them just outside the town knocks them unconscious and when the woman wakes up, her daughter is nowhere to be found, and Silent Hill suddenly became a ghost town, complete with fog and ash-fall. As the woman goes around the town in search for her daughter, she encounters some messed up creatures that all connects to the secrets of Silent Hill and the town's connection with her daughter.I must mention that I found the creatures of Silent Hill repulsive. Utterly hideous, especially the Janitor. Anyway, the movie itself is kinda...well I don't... More About: Left , Lent
What to do when everybody hates you
2007-09-26 20:53:00 Everybody Hates Chris -- I'm sure everyone has their own favorite comedy shows that they can't get tired of watching, to the point where they actually get their jokes and quotes in the programs themselves.I have a few favorites too. One of them is Everybody Hates Chris. I just like the whole concept of the show where the eldest child almost always gets the blame for everything that happens around him.Everybody Hates Chris is a sitcom that reflects actor Chris Rock's own teenage experiences. Each episode is packed with Chris' day-to-day normal life adventures that is seemingly extraordinary to me as a viewer. Why? Because no matter how hard-headed and naughty I am, I can't get to as much trouble as Chris does in one day. And that amuses me a lot!If this is the kind of childhood he had, and the kind of child he was, I'm sure that contributed a lot to how he is right now and why he is in the comedy business.Although I also think that these things will only be funny if it happens ... He's a Devil with the Guitar
2007-09-24 20:44:00 Santana -- I'm not sure if people my age know who Carlos Santana is, aside from his recent collaborations with some new artists on songs like Maria and Smooth.Anyway, Santana is one of the guitarists I look up to. I mean, he's really great with the guitar.I remember watching the Woodstock '69 where Santana was playing Soul Sacrifice. It was utterly amazing. There's no other word to describe what I saw.Santana for me is one of the music industry's legends. I wonder if there will be anyone else to replace those musicians before...that when you watch them, you'll feel all sorts of emotions inside you and all you can do is sit there, listen to them with your mouth hanging open, and let their music just take you to a rollercoaster of music, feelings and mean guitar playing.I really recommend watching one of their concerts, especially during their early days as a band. It's an experience worth telling to your children. More About: Guitar , Devil , The G
Doom for Doom
2007-09-21 20:55:00 Doom -- Enter the Rock in this movie adaptation of the video game of the same title. If you weren't able to catch Doom when it was shown last year, Doom is about a group of soldiers..well, space marines...who were sent to another planet to make sure that everything's going fine with a research facility.Upon reaching the facility, they find out that the place isn't so fine after all. Almost all the scientists are missing, dragged into the darkness by some weird, unseen (not invisible) thing. They were briefed about the situation by a lady scientist who is probably the only scientist left there. Oh and a physically disabled guy is there to help too. They receive their mission: get rid of the thing and leave. Then you will see a series of action scenes and you also discover what the weird, unseen (not invisible) thing is. Of course, I wouldn't tell you the whole story here because I don't want to ruin anything for you, dear reader and unfortunate misser of the movie, Doom.Okay, perso... More About: Doom
The Sweet Life!
2007-09-19 21:13:00 The Suite Life of Zack and Cody -- Wouldn't it be grand if you can live in a hotel suite for free? Well okay, not really for free if your mom works at the hotel restaurant as a singer. At least, you get to roam around the hotel as much as you want and get to do whatever you want too. Although, you might get in trouble with the hotel manager one too many times in the process. This is the life of Zack and Cody. They are twins whose mom works at the Tipton Hotel as a singer. They were able to live in a suite as part of their mom's contract with the hotel. The Tipton is owned by the parents of one of the residents there, London Tipton, who happens to be the twin's friend. Zack and Cody also befriended Maddie, candy-counter girl and Camp Tipton Daycare Center manager, who also happens to be London's friend. The episodes of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody usually just revolves around the adventures of the twins within the premises of the Tipton Hotel. The Queen was Damned Indeed
2007-09-17 21:08:00 Nahhh.. I wasn't saying that to Aaliyah, just in case people get the wrong notion or something.Queen of the Damned -- I read and liked Anne Rice's book. I fell in love with the story, with the intricate history of the vampires, so much that I really had high expectations for the Queen of the Damned movie.I was disappointed.A lot.Sure, I understand that like with most book-to-film movies, time is scarce, so the director has to fit in everything in one to two hours, preferably an hour and a half, lest the audience be bored...to death. I understand too that movie adaptations are based on the director's interpretation of the story, so it is up to him to recreate what he read. The Queen of the Damned movie lacked something that made the book wonderful. The story was missing the important parts, the elders weren't given that much thought...then Aaliyah died before they were able to finish shooting the last scene of the movie, where her character, Akasha, dies. So they had to use CG to ...
Too Big A Love?
2007-09-14 21:56:00 Big Love -- If you're not too partial on morals and ethics and stuff, I suggest you try watching Big Love, another one of HBO's original series.Big Love features the life of a polygamous family who lives in Utah. Who you see in the picture is Bill Henrickson and his three wives: (L-R) Nicki, Margene and Barbara. Bill has 8 kids from these three women. They encounter a lot of problems because of their lifestyle since their neighbors look down on the practice of polygamy.Bill and his family don't think that what they are doing is wrong. Then again, why would they try to hide it in the first place if they didn't think it was wrong, right? Hehe Bill is messed up in my opinion.I'm not really into this whole polygamy thing so I don't really enjoy watching Big Love, but for those of you who don't really have any inhibitions and stuff, try watching it.
Do You Know The Greatest Story Ever Told?
2007-09-10 21:34:00 It's Stanley! It's Stanley!Stanley -- That round-headed, six-haired, freckled kid you see on the picture is called Stanley. He has a pet goldfish named Dennis and they go on different adventures that involves learning about animals.Yep. A-NI-MAL-SSSSSS.Stanley is Playhouse Disney's version of NatGeo's Wild. Whenever Stanley is in some sort of predicament that his little underdeveloped brain couldn't understand yet, he consults Dennis about this. (Yes, the fish can talk. Quite eloquently, actually.) When Dennis can't answer Stanley's query, they both consult the omniscient Great Big Book of Everything (*echo* -thing...-thing...-ing...). Surprisingly, this book contains facts about all the animals Stanley can think of.The odd pair tries to see what the animal will do when it faces a similar predicament that Stanley faces. By "trying to see", I meant they go inside the book, to the page where that specific animal is in and just have fun and learn and sometimes, get into trouble ... Another X-Men Movie?
More articles from this author:2007-09-03 22:14:00 X-Men -- So will there be another X-Men movie? It has been on the news that there are plans but no one knows exactly what the story will be. Some speculate that it will be a Wolverine spin-off, but that probably will be another movie. Also, rumors has it that Gambit will be introduced in the fourth movie. It's about time too.People were asking if the new movie will be a Cyclops spin-off, but it was denied. Definitely not a Cyclops movie, I'm sorry to say, Cyclops fans. (I personally don't like Cyclops at all.)I'm hoping that they do a separate Wolverine movie and not make that the fourth installment to the X-Men series. Why? Because there were quite a few loose ends on the third movie that practically screams, "HEY! THERE'S A FOURTH MOVIE SO WATCH OUT FOR THAT, OKAY??"So what do you guys think? Any speculations on what X-Men 4 will be about? Do tell me, I love hearing ideas :D More About: Movie 1, 2, 3, 4 |
