Shakespeare on the Common - Part II
2007-08-02 03:02:00 Did you guys get a chance to see "A Midsummer Night's Dream" last week? Remember how I mentioned that the show got cut down from 20 performances down to only 7 due to budget cuts? Click (here) for original post. Well I read some news yesterday that really IRKS me. Read the Globe article for yourself (here)The president and chief executive of the Citi Performing Arts Center received a $1.265 million dollar bonus on top of his $409K salary. Question: What was the budget for the full run of Shakespeare on the Common ? Answer: About 960K. This got cut in half to about 480K leaving us the audience with only 7 shows to try to go to.I think you can see where I'm going with this. First of all, aren't bonuses only supposed to be paid out when you do a good job? Screwing us all out of 13 Shakespeare performances doesn't really seem like a good job to me. Secondly, how about just taking a "measly" 700K bonus, and NOT cutting the Shakespeare on the Common budget? This just goes to... More About: Part

Here Comes Kevin Garnett
2007-07-31 16:51:00 All-Star Kevin Garnet t is supposedly on his way to the Celtics. Announced today, the Celtics will be making a 5 to 1 trade with Minnesota to make this deal go through. The Celtics will send Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, Theo Ratliff, Ryan Gomes, Sebastian Telfair, and two first-round picks to the Timberwolves for Garnett , terms both sides have agreed to in principle. The news is all over the Globe and the Metro in case you haven't heard about it yet. All throughout June, we read articles like the one (here) on ESPN saying Garnett would never come to Boston. But the tables have turned. Maybe he buy Manny's place when he moves here; it's still on the market. Or anyone else that has $6.9 million dollars laying around - who wouldn't want to live in the penthouse of the Ritz?Know of Any Interesting Boston News or Events That You'd Like to Share?Email me at beantownblog@gmail.com
Pinkberry Substitute
2007-07-30 18:50:00 Ever had Pinkberry ? I had it for the first time about a month or so ago while I was in New York. I'll admit that it was pretty tasty, and it was nice with the fresh fruit toppings. Steep price though. I think it was like $7 or $8 for a large. Yesterday's Globe had a plug for another low-calorie frozen yogurt called Frogurt. My first reaction is....terrible name. It's almost as bad as when they named Botox by combining the terms 'botulism' and 'toxin.' Anyway, Frogurt is available at the Three Sisters ice cream shop in Providence. It's a 45 minute drive versus a 4 hour drive to NYC to get your '25 calorie an ounce' frozen dessert fix. I'll report back once I have a chance to drive down there and try it. For those of you out for summer. Here's the address for you to check it out if you've got time.1074 Hope StProvidence, RI 02906(401) 273-7230Know of Any Interesting Boston News or Events That You'd Like to Share?Email me at beantownblog@gmail.com More About: Subs
“Celebrate Seafood” Dinner Series
More articles from this author:2007-07-29 23:47:00 Many thanks to Annie from the New England Aquarium for letting me know about their "Celebrate Seafood" dinner series focused on sustainable seafood. Do you guys remember reading an article last November about how we're going to run out of seafood over the next 50 years? An article was published in Science and there were local news articles everywhere covering it. Here's a link to a BBC article from that time (here).I'm a huge seafood lover. I drove up to Rockport a few weeks ago to get some lobster and do some kayaking. I'm planning on still being around in 2050, and life would suck if there was no seafood left. So everyone do your part to at least be educated on the situation and what alternatives are available. This Tuesday, July 31st, the dinner series will feature Barramundi, an ocean-friendly replacement for Chilean sea bass. BTW, the real name for Chilean Sea Bass is Patagonian Toothfish - just a little bit of trivia for you. My head is full of useless trivia. Cl...
