dorm 'cooking'
2007-09-14 04:14:00
Nothing screams university romance like bringing back them back to your lovely dorm. You know, for dinner. So what do you do when you?ve only a microwave to your name? Sure, you could romance her with heating up those last two cans of Alphaghetti. Or perhaps you still have half of that bag of dill pickle chips calling your name? Better yet, I?m sure that Kraft Dinner could make it?s debut. Yep. And so will that Freshman 15. Advertisement: read more

This week, we had Annabelle meet up with Cartier at Philthy McNasty's to talk about some of the reasons why Philthy McNasty's makes a great date!  We were also fortunate to ask Cartier (who's also a bartender) some relationship questions since her job gives her a lot of experience in the 'love' department.  Advertisement:

Males Versus Females...Tips for the Unaware (Part 1)
2007-09-08 02:26:00
It is a common known fact that guys can sometimes be a tad too slow in understanding the female species. It seems as though they suffer from a learning disability in picking up hints and signals as to what is acceptable and what grounds not to cross. It baffles me on some of the men's strange behaviors and unacceptable antics, and I am truly convinced that men are born ?Women-illiterate?, or just choose to act dim-witted and not understand. I have compiled a list of men?s bad habits in which I have observed independently and from fellow male friends who have failed to recognize some of their inappropriate behaviours and comments. At times I feel as though they deliberately enjoy hurting women, or maybe they just require a few pointers as a compass for a healthy relationship so I am going to clarify a few things on behalf of the female population. We are not as complex as perceived; in fact, I think males make everything more complicated, but that is debatable of course. Moreover, t...

So I was thinking. What am I doing writing for this Love in Toronto blog, whereas I, Laurie, am not? Am I really cooking up all of these delicious things and the boys are flocking to my door? In mass amounts? Do you picture me swatting them off? Well, as surprising as it might seem, I?m not. Alas, I am single. Single and presumably ?unloved in Toronto?. Advertisement: read more

Oh God Here I Go: Dog, Choke on Liver
2007-08-27 06:08:00
Love sick has been bequeathed onto the partner. It couldn?t have been from the high-class atmosphere as we?ve blend in quite well at Sotto Sotto on Avenue rd. & Bloor Street. It wasn?t the sebas house special either because we?ve attacked it down to carcass (thank God for quality foods). The blame arrow points at the summer idled-mood that has worn its welcome?feeling as if every magnified crumb is blown up into one big bite of drama. Advertisement: read more

The Dyke Does Toast
2007-08-24 23:59:00
Rating: 4/4 Flags By Kelly Wilk Hello all you breakfast fans, do I have a place for you! A few days ago Kara and I went on a mission to Lesileville or as we call it Lezziville. We had heard of this great new spot at Pape and Queen but were not sure if it was in fact P-flagged. When we got there we were greeted by a sign proclaiming "Hello Toast " with a single piece of toast affixed to the front of the restaurant with a single cup on top of it. That won me over right there! For the cute story on how it earned its name see the web site. Advertisement: read more

Fake Prom 2007: An Enchanted Evening
2007-08-24 07:44:00
Prom. Clichés include: the end of an era, a celebration of what has been, a look to the future, a last chance for romance, a big fucking party and of course, finding prom clichéd. Whether yours was the night that you got stood up with the limo, did it for the first time or somewhere in between, memories of your actual year-end formal high school dance are likely bittersweet. Auberge du Pommier - Fine dining French restaurant
2007-08-23 05:36:00
If you're looking for a classy place to take someone for lunch/dinner, this is one of them. Found nestled at 4150 Yonge Street, it's easy to drive right past it, so make sure you check the map. This is a more upscale restaurant than the average chain, so you'll want to dress appropriately and bring that credit card if you intend on filling your appetite with three courses. While you don't need to have reservations to be seated, it's always a good idea to call ahead to make sure you're not dissapointed. Another reason why you'll want to call is to confirm where the validated parking is as I missed the spot on my first go around. It would have been helpful if I knew where it was. Otherwise, there's a parking machine on premise and it costs about 6 dollars for 2 hours, which will probably be your cheapest purchase for the evening. Advertisement: read more

do i make you horny baby?
2007-08-18 08:55:00
It has been said that oysters on the half shell can suddenly make the lights dim and the body ache for some, well shall we call it sexual healing? Marvin can you hear us? Unfortunately I've never been much for oysters, that's just me but that in no way, shape or form means I've been immune to this strange food to mind and body connection. Certain foods just have that certain je ne sais quoi and a certain ability to mesh with our bodies and minds and suddenly make us wish we were starring in pretty much anything on Showcase. The Dyke Does The Old Nick
2007-08-18 04:00:00
Rating 3/4 Flags: By Kelly Wilk I love those days when you feel like you've made a new discovery; found a new favorite part of town filled with exciting things to do and places to go. Having moved to the east end of the city my dining adventures took me to Broadview and Danforth. The first thing I was greeted by was a P-Flagged store and hair salon called "Wash Up & Brush Co!" It was a funky little place kind of like "Outer Layer" with hair styling in the back. Perfect place to primp and puff before a date! To her chagrin I caught the owner Susan with a colour rinse in and we chatted away about the neighbourhood. A few of her customers have pegged the area "the new gay suburb" or the place where queer folk move when they are tired of the village. Advertisement: read more

i'm game... are you?
2007-08-18 02:43:00
Game. You know... bison, elk, dove, partridge, boar, rabbit. Okay, so my palette didn't endure all of these before I went vegetarian. But that doesn't stop me from experimenting. A great way to change up your stay-in dinner is to experience something new together. As the resident cook in my household, I prepare meals daily. I thought I would mix it up a bit this week and invested in some game. First on the menu, 'quail'. I thought it would be a great dish for the virgin game eaters, as they're already huge poultry fans. Capes, Tights and So Much More!
2007-08-16 09:03:00
The Toronto Comic Arts Festival 2007 Once upon a time, the comic book ? sequential narrative art ? was relegated to a lowly status indeed. Most penny comics featured two-dimensional characters, poor story telling and lackluster art. However, the comic book has also always been a medium of great talent, art and expression. From the medium?s earliest manifestations comic books have been a means of sharing special stories with fantastic writing and images in an entirely novel way. Much ink has been spilled over comic?s transformation from a frivolous pastime of youth to an art form and movement in its own right. This weekend, Saturday August 18 and Sunday August 19, The Toronto Comic Arts Festival celebrates the revision of comic?s value and place at UofT?s Old Victoria College. Advertisement: read more
