Snugs at the Southern Accent Restaurant
2007-07-31 08:00:00 Next time you're at the Souther Accent restaurant (595 Markham Street, Toronto, Ontario, Canada) make sure you ask to get inside one of their Snugs! What is it? It's a small space for two draped overhead so that you're snug inside. We suggest the authentic Hurricane Margarita when things get a little 'hot' inside ;) More About: Restaurant , Southern , Hern
Oh God Here I Go: Undamning The Village of The Damned
2007-07-30 04:41:00 Wellesley Station automatically triggers my paranoia of people?s pre-conceived notion of who I am just because I am there, with an automatic flashing rainbow lit label exposing the letters: GAY. While I walk along the sidewalk feeling invisible rocks being thrown at my back, while the horde of men displaying themselves in front of Timothy?s or on the sidewalk steps whose wandering eyes makes me feel like I?m being picked apart slowly, until there?s nothing left to judge. read more More About: Village , The D , Villa
The Dyke Does Dinner at the Rectory Cafe
2007-07-29 21:00:00 Rating: 2/4 Flags By Kelly Wilk This week on a particularly sunny day, my partner and I took off for Toronto Island on a romantic day trip. Not only is this location an oasis like get away from the noise and traffic of the city, a ferry ride always seems to cure the ills of any day. For dinner we found ourselves at the newly renovated Rectory Café, that has been rated one of the fifty best patios in Toronto by Now magazine. To get there board the Wards Island Ferry hang a right at the landing and it is a quick walk. For a more scenic stroll follow the road straight to the boardwalk that curves around the island along the water. read more More About: Dinner , Cafe , The D , Tory , Dyke
Going to the Chapel and I'm NOT Getting Married.
2007-07-28 07:50:00 There is pretty much no place to hide, no stone large enough to crawl under and no mailbox during the summer season is ever safe from it. The dreaded wedding invitation! (Insert vintage, terrifying horror music here). Oh yes, that's right folks, step right up to the wedding's of summer. They appear in all shapes and sizes, adorn with many flavors and depending on the relation brimming with multiple assaults on those cheque books. You'll be lucky if one out of the plethora is actually one you want to attend because usually, and I know this is going to sound harsh, I truly could take it or leave it?emphasis on the leave it. read more More About: Advice , Chapel , Getting Married , Going , Married
no money? no problem. frugal menus for that frugal date.
2007-07-27 02:08:00 So after weeks of wooing "Lance", that new guy in cubicle seven, (approximately 9 2/3 ft. away from your lovely corner desk), you finally decide that the flirtatious encounters, drinks after work, and shared lunch breaks isn't enough. You ask him over for dinner. "Reach the heart through the stomach", right? Here's the deal: It has to have a little romance, make him think you're incredible, and, well, hardly cost you a cent. Your 9-5 hardly can cover an expensive night of entertaining. But this time, spaghetti with ice cream for dessert just won't cut it. Check your pantry; odds are, you already have some of the staples for this dinner: read more More About: Money , Problem , Frugal

How to judge a potential date by what they are drinking
2007-07-25 02:15:00 By Laneway Davey Okay, so there is really nothing worse than going to a bar/club/funeral, eyeing a hottie, then walking up to them and realizing they are drinking Windex. Jokes, that rarely happens to me. But you know what does happen a lot? I find myself judging people solely on what they choose to drink. They say you can get a good first impression from a man if you look at his shoes; I say you get a better impression from what he is drinking. BEERS The Down-Home Beer A person who is drinking a Coors Light or a Canadian is guaranteed no-nonsense. He likes his beer normal and cold and tasty. He is clearly not into impressing anyone and is there to have a good time. read more More About: Advice , Judge , Drinking , Tent

2007-07-23 06:02:00 Prozac Nation author Elizabeth Wurtzel tells us how consumed she was by the love she had for her boyfriend. The level of her obssesiveness brought her to imagine what it would be like to drink her lover?s blood, so that he would become a part of her forever. The Dyke Does Brunch at Brownstone Bistro & Bar
2007-07-23 03:19:00 www.solo-brownstone.sites.toronto.com Rating: 4/4 flags By Kelly Wilk Once in a while a place comes along that you know you will return to again and again. With its funky atmosphere and amazing fare Browns tone Bistro & Bar makes a prefect place for any type of meal. I must confess that I have been a number of times, but it is a little Toronto gem that if you don't know of, you must be told! The inside of this restaurant is a spectacle of colour with its terracotta tiling, walls of yellow paint and exposed brick, glossy mosaic pieces on the floor and prominent pillars. If that weren't enough, they also feature some beautiful art that make great conversation pieces for those nerve wracking first dates?or second ones! read more More About: Brunch , The D , Tone
So You Like it Wet & Fast? WAKESTOCK World Series 10th Anniversary Festival
2007-07-21 07:41:00 Wake'board'ing - The sport of riding a short, very broad water ski in the manner of a surfboard while being towed by a motorboat. Why the formal definition? Because surely I can't be the only one who had no idea what wakeboarding was. Of course unlike me you don't have to formally announce your degree of cluelessness to the world, but rather can now read this in proud anonymity and comfort while becoming fully aware as well. See, I took one for the team today. I really do care! And I feel pretty strongly that like myself, once you read more about this fast approaching festival and it's cornucopia of events, you're going to care very much about making a possible plan to check it out. And in the category of excellent summer date places, WAKESTOCK clearly has its need-for-wet-speed eyes on the prize. read more More About: Advice , World , Anniversary , Series , Festival
What I learned from Alicia Keys
More articles from this author:2007-07-20 09:00:00 Do you see how happy this man looks in the picture above? He's a HERO. Maybe better put as a HER-O as this guy did all the right things to please his woman. For the other guys out there (me included) we should be taking tips from this clean cut jerk who just made us all look bad. Yes I'm bitter because I'm stubborn. So instead of asking this guy, I decided to ask Alicia Keys about her song: A Woman's Worth. read more More About: Learned 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 |
