Contingency-Boyfriends and Pregnancy Woes
2008-05-08 02:52:00
Dear Kris , My ex-boyfriend just moved back into town, and I?ve been spending most of my time with him. My old feelings for him are coming back, and he?s mentioned that he wants me to date him again. The problem is that I have a boyfriend that I love very much, and I don?t want to leave him. At the same time, I can?t ignore my feelings for my ex. What should I do? Jen Dear Jen, I?m not going to sugarcoat this for you: proverbially speaking, you seem to selfishly want to have your cake and eat it, too. Sorry, but you just can?t have both. read more

Dear Kris , The man I?m dating gives me a lot of love and attention, and shows how into our relationship he is. But he is only like this when we?re alone. As soon as we?re in public, especially around his friends, he acts like a jerk and even introduces me as a ?friend?. What am I supposed to do about it? -Pissed Off read more

I'm not pretty enough or interesting enough syndrome - Kris10 offers her ad
2008-04-10 02:51:00
Dear Kris, I'm tired of being single, but I don't know what to do about it. I'm painfully shy, unattractive, and not interesting enough. Men don't ever approach me at bars or anywhere else. What do I have to do to get noticed? Jenn Oh, Jenn. You sound a hell of a lot like I used to. The old "I'm not pretty enough or interesting enough" syndrome. I know it's not fun, but it's also a bit of a cop-out. It's really easy to sit in a corner and sigh about how you're alone, when every other woman can find someone. But maybe instead you should observe these ladies. Take note. read more

Getting Coiffed in Style
2008-04-10 02:26:00
Rating: 4/4 Flags Wending down Pape, in the ever more Queer-Positive portion of the city known as the Danforth, I was delighted to find François Coiffure & Spa, a Queer-Positive hair salon that made me feel luxurious just standing in the waiting area while I booked my appointment. I relaxed in the burgundy, high-backed leather chairs, sipped some tea, and had cookie from Athena's, the Queer-Friendly bakery next door. The warm patch of sun was welcome and inviting on a bright but chilly spring day, and the whole salon seemed to glow with a proud luster. Brian, François's charming partner, and I passed the time chatting, and it became clear that this was not just a place to get your hair cut; this was a place with a touch of elegance that made it worthy of the name "Coiffure." The interior burgundy walls are set off by large gilded-framed portraits, the most prominent of which is Marie Antoinette. The salon has a very generous space for hairstyling as well as a spa at the back ...

Happily Ever After: Fact or Fiction?
2008-04-02 01:37:00
On a typical night out with the friends, discussions of relationships usually tend to spark hot debates and feed our gossip cravings. The individuals in relationships usually butter-up their partners with flattery and admiration, while the singles drift off into fantasy worlds, wondering where their princes/princesses are hiding, in what bar s/he may be loitering. Romantic relationships hold little importance in my life, but I suppose the scale weighs differently for others. Which brings me to a seemingly endless series of questions: Why must our lives always revolve around entangling ourselves with the complexities of the dating game, with marriage still that game?s elusive prize? Am I seriously running out of time to find a spouse, or are others rushing into marriage? How about if I do not manage to find someone because my life is too occupied by other concerns- are my priorities misplaced? How about if I fall out of love before my hubby-to-be and I decide to tie the knot? Do I t...

Is he sleeping with another girl?
2008-04-01 02:41:00
Editor?s note: Love In Toronto welcomes Kris ten Goetz to the team! Read on for an introductory peak at our new writer and her new column. Dating. The mere mention of that simple word has the ability to make a person smile, yearn, or hyperventilate. While everyone wants a special person in his or her life, one thing is certain: dating isn?t easy. When a situation has you confused and seeking Yoda-like relationship wisdom, who do you turn to? Friends, usually. Family members, in desperate times. But some circumstances require an outside source, an unbiased stranger who can dole out straightforward guidance without worrying about your sensitive ego. read more

?See the Difference You Can Make?: Earth Hour 2008
2008-03-22 02:10:00
What?s more romantic than a candlelit evening? A candlelit evening inspired by a shared environmental conscience, that?s what. Last year, millions of Australians participated in the first annual Earth Hour to raise awareness about, and to actively combat, climate change caused by global warming (if you still think that global warming ?isn?t real,? better pull your head out of the increasingly hot sand real quick, and hope that right-wing of yours can fly you and your descendants to another planet). This year, at 8 p.m. next Saturday, March 29, 2008, millions of people worldwide will accept the Earth Hour ?challenge.? I put the word ?challenge? in quotation marks (twice, even) because the concept could not be simpler or easier: shut off your lights for one hour. That?s it. Such a small gesture can be all it takes to really get you thinking about your personal environmental impact and responsibility, but Earth Hour is far from a gesture alone. According to its website (www.earthhour.o...

Getting lost in Yoga Meets Dance?
2008-02-21 07:56:00
?The older I get, the more I want to do things that make me happy,? Kathryn Peterson, Registered Massage Therapist and Certified Yoga Meets Dance ? Instructor, told me over breakfast at the By the Way Café on Bloor. Kathryn was brimming with excitement about her new Yoga Meets Dance? series. Engaging this desire that Kathryn expressed, the desire to ?do things that make you happy?, is one of the best ways to indulge your healthy pleasures. It encourages a state of mind that makes you open to possibilities, and dance is one of many ways through which to explore this openness. Kathryn looks at dance and movement not only as an expression of joy, but also as a healing tool and extension of her practice. Like many people her age, including myself, Kathryn fondly recalls a time in her life when she used to go to clubs and dance all night. Designed by Beth Rigby (www.yogameetsdance.com), Yoga Meets Dance? is a fantastic, healthy way to reconnect with that kind of energizing experience. Kat...

Superior Restaurant - Behind the Scenes!
2008-02-07 09:29:00
Filming at Superior Restaurant just last week made us feel we were someplace special. Superior Restaurant is family-owned and has transformed over the course of that family's history since the 1940s, from its roots as a candy factory to its present incarnation as a fine dining establishment. Tom, the third-generation owner of the business, takes pride in being part of a long history of serving Toronto. Located right across from the Eaton Centre, there's no shortage of entertainment hotspots within walking distance.  Emphasizing fine ingredients and careful selection of fine wines, Tom insists that you won't find the same kind of quality within the vicinity.  For an excellent before-the-play meal, consider taking him/her to Superior Restaurant- for a superior experience!   read more

The House of Salgado - Behind the Scenes
2008-02-07 08:21:00
The House of Salgado is a family run, custom men's tailor and shirt maker located in the TD Tower on Bay Street.  The clientele is all business, men with fashion sense and class who prefer handmade suits to common thrift.  This place is a staple in the business community, with many of its clients positioned in some of Toronto's most powerful jobs.  Mark and his father, Antonio, both tend to their shop by outfitting their customers in the latest and most exquisite fabrics in the world.  Even the boxes that the linens come in are expensive and extravagant!  If you are a first-time buyer, the Salgados encourage you to make an appointment so that you can be properly measured and have enough time to select your colours and materials.  This experience can take upwards of an hour if you consider that the House of Salgado not only makes suits and shirts, but also shoes!  And ladies, this is a great place to get your man suited up for your wedding.  ...

Guilt-free morning-after
2008-01-24 14:08:00
Okay, in all honesty, some morning-afters aren?t guilt-free. However, for the most part, a quick snuggle, joint shower, and then breakfast together is a great way to spend the first part of a Saturday morning. So what?s this ?guilt-free? business? After all those ?Happy New Years?, ?Merry Christmases?, and ?Happy Hanukahs?, the only post-Auld Lang Syne thoughts you?ll be thinking will be about those extra ten pounds you packed on during the break. Well, not really ? but what is realistic is that an awful lot of people make the ol? ?be healthier?, ?lose weight?, ?work out more? types of resolutions. And the easiest way to break these decrees of determination? Peer pressure. Especially a ?peer? who eats with you and encompasses your free time. Last night, Bobby seemed like a great choice, and this morning, you smile as you wake up to the smell of breakfast cooking. As you make your way downstairs, he turns with a grin in front of the stove, frying up bacon and eggs, spreading thick sl...
