Poor Little Rich Girl: Courtney Love
2007-03-10 18:47:00 Perhaps the sympathy we found in the dark, doe eyes of Judy Garland made it easy for us to mourn her as we witnessed her implode from dope between the tattered pages of tabloid journals.Even Marylin Monroe garnered our sadness, pity, and goddess worship as we watched her create her "poor little rag doll" image and allow herself to be used as an empty-headed arm puppet...only to be tossed away and ignored when the reality of politics cut through the sleazy glamor of Hollywood. Poor Marylin seemed to forget that once you achieved top whore status, the only place to go was back to the streets from which she came...or check out much too soon in a lonely bed with a bottle of pills. And what about our waif Edie Sedgwick. Our poor, poor Edie. We watched her surf barefoot through the black, rain drenched New York streets begging for a fix...after Warhol had pimped her out for all she was worth, sucking every penny he could from her elven frame. Yer Ropes - Giant Sand
2007-02-23 13:18:00 The Tucson, Arizona music scene in the 1980's was truly a strange place of blurred lines and mixed genres. We weren't in New York, so we didn't have to go for BoHo chic. Being only a stones toss from Los Angeles we were able to miantain a detached coolness without the trappings of trying to be ultra-hip.Of course a lot of bands didn't understand this simple philosophy and quickly dried up to roll like a tumbleweed through the downtown streets unnoticed. One guy who did get it, and still gets it, is Howe Gelb. He founded the Giant Sand worms sometime in 1980 (although it could have been earlier). The Sandworms were a blend of Tucson country/new wave/ straight ahead rock kinda sound that pretty much defies any description by me. The name was later shortened to just Giant Sand. Howe Gelb is still actively musically. Music fans would be doing themselves a strong disservice if they didn't check out some of the old releases and newer stuff Gelb has been putting out.I was really shocke... More About: Prose , Rope
Dovetail: New Indy Film Platform
2007-02-01 07:41:00 YouTube is a pretty decent site to view pirated TV episodes or music videos, but it was originally designed as a platform for people to share their own self-produced videos. Sadly, about the only ones using YouTube for this purpose are teenage attention whores who have nothing better to do but sit in front of their web cam after school and offer up for display how shallow and ignorant the youth of this generation actually are.Enter Dove tail, an online distribution website dedicated to independent film and music videos. Here content and quality are key, as Dovetail offers viewers the abilty to watch DVD quality video by using a simple download peer to peer program. This is a perfect outlet for independent film producers and fans. You can easily browse through the available films and videos, watch the ones that interest you online via your web stream, and then you are allowed to download the video to watch it in full DVD quality.I have already assembled quite a collection of some fair... Old Habits...
2006-12-18 13:11:00 I decided to give myself an early X-Mas gift this year and reassemble a working art studio. I haven't painted since I left Tucson about a year ago. Anyway, I went and picked up a few basic supplies to get me off and going. I have a spare room I use for computer stuff, and figured a corner of it would make a nice place to paint. Obviously, I am no great painter. I have taken no art classes (thank god). But it does relax me and gives me something to turn to when stress decides to invade the brain and nervous system. Besides, reaching for a paint brush is much better than reaching for a syringe. Although in my hands both produce pretty much the same thing...shitty art.Being that it's my blog, you are now my captive audience for a few seconds...here is the first piece I have painted in over a year. Not sure it is done...but then nothing I attempt ever seems to be done. It is called Withdrawal. The model is an ex-girlfriend from Arizona. Haven't seen her in about 4 years, but she will... The Deceipt Of Western Civilization
2006-12-14 05:32:00 It has been over 20 years since Penelope Spheeris filmed her opus to the Los Angeles hardcore music and cultural movement of the day. Since then, fans have been clamoring for the release of a quality DVD representation of this effort. Certainly with the current climate, where pop music is hand fed to snotty nose wannabes sporting their latest pink IPOD as "alternative" music...the time would seem perfect for a multi-million dollar major deal to release this film to the masses. So where is "The Decline And Fall Of Western Civilization "? Hopefully, tucked away on a film rack collecting dust, never again to see the light of day.I recently came across a 3rd generation DVD copy of this movie duped from the actual film...from the friend of a friend of a friend. You know how that goes.Once the sheer excitement of actually holding the thing in my hands subsided, I slipped the little silver disk into the slot and waited to be confronted by the realities of history. My history. What a fraud. Th... More About: Music , Western Civilization , Prose
Total Fucking Sell Out
2006-12-10 01:40:00 This post goes out to all you fucking little dickhead kids out in cyberland that have made the number one search term on Google: Britney Spears. What a talentless cunt this chick is. Sure I would fuck Britney Spears last few braincells out, but only after first taping her mouth shut with a roll of silver duct tape. Britney Spears this. Britney Spears that. Blah Blah Blah.I am thinking I may take this little photo of Britney Spears showing off her shaved gash, and use it for the cover of my next poetry book. Maybe then you little starstruck geeks will actually pick the thing up. Fuck copyrights. Modern culture is to be whored for the useless throw-away shit it has become.Anyway, this post is a fucking test. A test to see how many of you little useless fucks visit this site from Google looking for the hole shot of Britney Spears. Once you have seen the fucking thing, and jerked off your little hairless dick, maybe you will surf around this site and find stuff a bit more fucking intere... Tales Of Youth Wasted
2006-12-09 03:58:00 I think it was Kerouac that said something to the effect that you can't go back home. Sure, you can return to the physical place called "home"...but you can never really return to that moment in time where you actually felt you truly belonged.Time has a way of fucking with us. Friends eventually begin to dream different dreams than the ones we used to share in our youth, drugs begin to rip us from the community we once held so close or erase away everything we ever really cared about...and in some cases (ok in a lot of cases) friends even die. Sometimes, like in my case, an entire "scene" or world crumbles and memories become nothing more than fragments an archaeologist stumbles upon digging through a dumpster to discover evidence that our past really existed. So it is with the "Punk" scene of Tucson, Arizona in the early 1980's. Most of the people from those days are dead now, but there are a few still out there that do retain the fragmented memories that I do. Tonight, while talk... Streamer P2P Radio
2006-11-22 05:09:00 I first became aware of Stream er P2P while looking for some rather simple and lightweight software to broadcast an online net radio station. I stress simple, as I was very new when it came to online broadcasting. Streamer was the answer. Within in minutes, I had loaded a play list of some of my favorite punk tunes over the last 3 decades into WinAmp, and after following a rather easy step by step on the user interface I was online broadcasting. My online broadcasting interest lasted all of about two months. I bore easily. Bored myself and bored my handful of actual listeners even quicker. However, I did begin to listen to other stations broadcast on Streamer. This is where I found the "pirate" LIVE broadcast of Howard Stern on SIRIUS Satellite Radio . Of course, after listening to this low but listenable broadcast quality...and of course the anticipation and often let downs if the guy who was broadcasting was actually going to crawl out of bed and serve up the LIVE feed...I decided to ... PaperBack Swap
2006-10-28 01:57:00 For avid readers out there, how would you like to be able to trade your old books for other books free with no fees? Paper BackSwap is basicly a large online used bookstore where members list books availble to TRADE other members. There is no buying or selling or fees. For each book you list and ship (shipping on media mail is $1.59) you earn a credit to receive a book (the shipper pays the postage). This is the true barter sytem. No more hunting thru eBay and paying absurd shipping rates. For those of you not in a major city, you are well aware of how hard it is to find a quality used bookstore. I read several books a week. I found this a perfect way to trade off books I have read and get books I have yet to read...then I turn around and trade them right back. All it costs is the cost to mail thru media mail.I give this website program high marks and strongly suggest you check it out.RC Edrington More About: Paperback

2006-10-25 00:02:00 Why anyone is still using the outdated browser Internet Explorer is beyond me. Even Microsoft's newest release of IE 7 is a poor clunky imitation of Firefox . In the future this blog will only be optimized for Firefox users and may not display correctly in your archaic browser. Get SIRIUS
2006-10-20 10:40:00 I was never a big fan of Howard Stern. I listened to him every once in awhile. I rarely caught his TV show on the E network, usually because I had better things to do or watch whenever the show aired. As far as AM radio went, I listened to Phil Hendrie for comedy and Art Bell for sheer weirdness. Besides, catching a live 6am East Coast show in Arizona at 4am just wasn't going to happen. Then Howard Stern once again created a media event he is quite famous for. He signed an insane deal with SIRIUS satellite radio. Do a Google search for details. I won't bore you. But Howard officially now has more money than god. Why? As far as SIRIUS goes, everyone knows its the best place to tune for commercial free music. I find myself listening the the 80s station more often than I should. More often than I did when the music was actually out in the 1980s on FM radio. The music stations can be quiet addictive, and now with the ability to listen online for a small monthly fee instead of shelling o... More About: Sirius
Musings on the Clash
2006-08-01 23:06:00 During the Clash USA tour of 1982, they usually had The Message by Grandmaster Flash blasting from the PA prior to taking the stage. A few years earlier, while touring a few clubs in New York, Joe Strummer became somewhat infatuated by the inner city hip-hop scene. This is reflected in songs like Magnificent Seven and a few other tracks on Sandinista. In fact, the Clash album Combat Rock is pretty much a lyrical tribute to the underground hip-hop scene in New York at the time. Poet Allen Ginsberg was even used on the record to recite a piece of poetry over a Clash track. While some may think Combat Rock was one of the Clash's worst album (most likely because it actually sold a few copies), I consider it one of their best. Not because of the album itself...but because it hinted at a new musical direction and an alliance between inner city American youth and suburban American youth. Had Mick Jones not decided to throw in the towel and run of prematurely to form the band BAD, before th... More About: Music , Musings , Prose , The Clash , Sing

2006-04-15 09:25:00 The mood swings come and go almost daily now. The booze fails to keep them at bay. If I have pissed any of you off in the last few months. Too bad. Those of you that thought I was some fictional character scribbling words on paper and might be a "cool" guy to hang out with. Fuck off. I have no need for you. When I took you too close to the flame, when I showed you the track marks on my arms, the tattoos on my soul, when you finally realized I was nothing more or less than a junkie trying to reassemble the fragments of a life wasted on barrio streets...you burst into the tiny moths you were or ran back to your soft middleclass homes to scribble your fiction in the name of truth.I couldn't live up to being the hero you wanted me to be because I never claimed to be a hero. I could never shed some mask, walk off stage and join you for a cold beer in some college bar because I am not a character. I am who I am. Nothing more. Dope Radio Revisited
2006-04-07 20:12:00 RC's Dope Radio has been off the air a little over a month now. I decided to take some time to re-evaluate the format and try to decide what I really wanted to do with the station. A daily broadcast would swallow up way too much of my time, so I have decided to go with a weekly 2 hour show. The format will basicly be "classic punk" rock. I will dive into my album collection and play bands that shaped the future of modern rock. The primary era will be late 70's early 80's with some related later bands tossed into the mix. I have also been getting emails from some indie unsigned bands wanting to get played. So I may feature a 15 minute segment of unsigned bands that I think deserve to get heard. As time goes on I may include brief live interviews with these bands.I will be working out all the kinks, yes once again, and keep you updated. Target date to go back on air is towards the end of April. I will provide updated details in a future post.RC Edrington More About: News , Visi , Visit
March 2006 Update & Stuff
2006-04-02 20:09:00 Another fucking month has fallen to the wayside. I am so disgusted and numbed by the current state of my reality, it's beyond words even for me. It is apparent to me by now that I will never attain hapiness or contentment attempting to "normalize" my life. Yet time after fucking time, I run from the edge of the world I live on and try to dive back into middleclass America.I am at a standstill. Some people are just meant to die quietly in some alley with a John Doe tag on their toe. So be it. I have decided that sometime in the coming months I am going to hop a Greyhound and return to Arizona...and my life. As for my writing, that has always been meant for my own need. A way of keeping in contact with myself and the reality that is my world. I don't require an audience or readers. In fact, lately I have been almost ashamed of having my stuff published in zines full of clueless scribblers.I plan to continue helping Linda Wandt with Spent Meat, until my continued drug use makes that ... "Nepenthe" by Linda Wandt
2006-03-29 17:31:00 Nepenthe: 1. A potion used by the ancients to dull pain and sorrow. 2. Something capable of making one forget grief or suffering.I just finished reading this chapbook by Linda Wand t today, and I cannot suggest strongly enough that you lamers need to run out and grab a copy. It's one hell of a read. The images are tight and the power of the emotions authentic. This baby is packed full of booze charged energy from the gut and heart. Linda writes with more balls then most male poets today could ever hope too. She isn't afraid to dive into the brittleness behind the drunken bravado or show a few scars on the heart and body. I found the poems hitting home on more than one level. It's one of the few chapbooks I have read recently that I keep going back and skimming through. This is a must read chapbook for fans of the first person narrative. The images and metaphors may be of a personal nature, but the pain and triumphs are universal. For information on getting your hands on a copy, go ... More About: News , Epen

Limited Edition Chapbook
2006-03-15 07:10:00 May 5th, 2006 will mark the release of my first collection of poems in over a year. The chapbook, "Homie Lover Friend" will consist mainly of previously unpublished material not available anywhere else. Since this will be the first release by my new production project Libre Press, the chapbook will be limited to 50 signed copies. The chapbook is a steal at $5.00.Libre Press will put out 1-3 limited edition chapbooks a year. Submission is by invitation only. Plans are also tentative to include an anual print issue of Spent Meat. Of course, this project will only be as successful as reader interest. You can either purchase the Libre Press publications individually as they are published, or for a "donation" of $20 per year you will receive all publications produced during the year. While I do appreciate all the email I get in regards to my writing and Spent Meat, it doesn't pay the bills. Liquid Sky
2006-03-11 07:28:00 I watched Liquid Sky again tonight. This flick defines the underground cult flick genre. If you haven't seen it yet, you should rent it. But keep in mind it is a bit hard to find at most video stores since it came out in 1982 to no acclaim and seemed to promote heroin use.Basic plot is aliens come to earth for heroin. These little 2 inches creatures need the stuff like we need air. However when they get here, they discover that the endorphins produced in humans during an orgasm is a much better high than mere heroin. And of course, killing said humans during sex produces the best rush of all. Thus begins the story of this slutty chick named Margaret, whose lovers all get killed by little aliens while fucking her.Aliens aside, the movie also shows a fairly accurate picture of dysfunctional addicts and the "arty" club scene in the punk/new wave era. It also has one of the best (if not only) girl on girl rape scene in film history. Rent the movie, then let me know what you think. As f... More About: News
