Stickin' To My Guns...
2008-04-16 15:48:00
Ah... my love affair with the Democrats. As a fairly moderate minded voter, I see the recent hoopla over Senator Obama's comments about Pennsylvanian gun slinging people of faith to be the most recent example of how base and foolish politics is. Yes... another example of how politics get in the way of... politics. Obama made a good point, and then Clinton had the audacity to promote misinterpretation of his message. Of course Obama defended himself well, not withdrawing his comments, but addressing the concern that was risen. All this attention did nothing more than provide an additional platform for Obama to drive his point home. I'm sorry Hillary, but yes, I have been cheating on you with Obama. The video I have embedded is Obamas reaction to comments made by Clinton about his comments.

Lazy Winter...
2008-04-15 02:06:00
So I post this one a little embarrassed, saddened by the fact that is has been several months since my last post... I owe you guys better. Not to worry, this time I am back to stay! There should be plenty to talk about in the upcoming months... to feed this passion that I have for taking a single issue, big or small, and excruciatingly nit-picking its social elements to death. Too bad I can't put that skill on my resume. I could i guess, if I wanted to work for my hometown newspaper. On a fonder note... summer is almost here... more time for things like this.

'Tis the Season...
2007-12-20 22:13:00
...to be politically correct it seems. It's the "Holidays" or "Holiday Tree"...not Christmas or a Christmas tree. You know, someone might take offense for them wishing you well on Christmas. They would actually be offended by your wish for them to be well and happy! I remember as a kid hearing people say "Happy Holidays". I always thought it was just the lazy way of saying, "Merry Christmas and Happy New Year." Somewhere between then and now it became more. It became the "safe" greeting used in December. Because no one would want to offend someone because, they might not celebrate Christmas!! Oh no! People you have known for years won't even say Merry Christmas to you anymore, even though they KNOW you are of the same faith/belief. You know, I wouldn't be offended if someone wished me a Happy Yom Kippor Day. I would smile and say, "well thank you for the thought!". I'm not going to curse the guy out and go on about how I don't celebrate such a day and it OFFENDS me! It's just ...

I've Just About Had It...
2007-12-19 22:06:00
Here we are a little less than a week before Christmas (I celebrate the birth of Jesus) and 2007 is almost history. What a year. A lot of things happened this year. This blog polluted the Internet for the first time. Time Magazine named Putin man of the year. And I lost another large chunk of my sanity. I was happy to hear about Washington's new initiative to phase out incandescent light bulbs. I went on cnn.com to read more, as I only heard a tid-bit off the newscast, and of course I couldn't find the story instead, they had this one. You have got to be kidding me. I really don't care that Britney's 16 year old sister, Jamie Lynn Spears is pregnant. No wonder people are so absolutely ignorant these days. I'm really upset now. This just cheered me up. This looks like the cover art from a future James Bond movie. Or he is trying to sell me life insurance. Well I guess I will call it a day, on that note. Sorry again readers for wasting your time and your computers bandwidth with ...
A Time Out From Life...And A Day In the Park
2007-12-14 02:50:00
So... it's been a long time. I wish I could say I have been backpacking in the Alps or, went away to Fiji and eloped, but I can't. I've actually taken a break from blogging, and I'm back. So my apologies to all of the readers, I know you have mentioned my abscence many times. Theres so much to talk about. OJ, Democrats, Glenn Beck's new book, the list goes on and on. But the news from Major League Baseball really made me laugh today. As if it's suprising. Not really. Former senator George Mitchell said today after his 20 month investigation:"There was a collective failure to recognize the problem as it emerged and to deal with it early on."Let's be serious. No one cared about steroids. They cared about record breaking sluggers and pitchers. People don't care about it being a "wholesome" sport, they want to be entertained, and see a good product on the field. It's all about the money baby. Steroids are probably the best thing that happened to MLB! But, that's just my two ce...

It's Not About the Color of Your Skin...
2007-08-24 01:51:00
It's really not. In fact most won't care, Michael Vick. Maybe you understand that. But Dennis Courtland Hayes doesn't seem to. Dennis is the President of the NAACP. In fact he says:"While no dog deserves to be mistreated, the backdrop includes the perception among some African-Americans that the criminal justice system treats them like animals and that nobody seems willing to do anything about the disparity.""He may in fact be being treated better than some African-Americans and Hispanics who don't have the resources and financial means that he has... On the other hand, there might be some of a different race or different ethnicity who might be treated a bit differently."-ESPN.comOh please! The criminal justice system treats them like animals?!It goes on to talk about how Michael Vick should be allowed to play because he brings so much joy to fans all around the country. Get real Dennis, the man IS an animal, not because of the color of his skin but because of the nature of and ...

I'm a little disappointed. Well, I'm always disappointed in things, like mankind and the future of the human race, but this time I'm disappointed in the History Channel. They actually ran a documentary on 9/11 conspiracy theories. I can't believe these idiots out there that actually think that either the government let this atrocity happen and/or they actually had something to do with it. It absolutely makes me want to throw up in their face. Penn and Teller sum up my feelings about these idiots in this video.

Michael Vick Takes Plea Deal...And My Head Explodes
2007-08-21 02:19:00
You heard it. I like many others today heard that Vick had accepted a plea deal to avoid further federal charges. I guess thats what you have to resort to when you buddies sell you out, and agree to testify against you. So I'm on YouTube checking out the latest and I come across this video. I had to watch it twice, because I couldn't believe what that idiot Clinton Portis (Running back for the Washington Redskins) had to say. He actually had the ignorance and stupidity to defend Vick, and when you hear his quote, you will fall off your chair and hurt yourself like I did. What a fool. On this note, since we're talking about Vick, which I dont plan to do much more at all, since he doesn't even deserve a spot on this blog in the first place, I want to talk about some video I saw on CNN a few weeks ago. They showed some of these dog fights, and myself being a animal lover, it absolutely broke my heart. I could not watch the whole video, it was such a gut-wrenching experience. People...

This is how all good relationships start...
2007-08-18 16:31:00
Hello, My name is Chris and my good friend Dominic has gone ahead and allowed me to once in a while type some tidbits of knowledge on here. You may know me from The Pelican Foul, where I write about stuff like this, and sometimes I do stupid stuff like this.I'm pretty opinionated, and I use the 'F' word a lot. I was advised by Dom that this is a 'Family Friendly' blog, and I really shouldn't swear; so I'm going to do my best and be nice... however I am a stern believer in freedom of speech and text so why the fuck not get it out of my system now? I won't be here often, I have no intention of stealing the lime light from the master (in his own mind), but I am gonna pop in, and give you some insights.Merci.

Someone Said Something Intelligent...
2007-08-14 15:15:00
Yes, you heard that right. One of those short news kicker stories, about how people are using the permits of their disabled relative or friend to use handicap parking spaces. You know what I'm talking about, you've seen these idiots, and the ones that haven't managed to cheat the system yet that actually drive around the parking lot for half an hour looking for the closest spot possible. Apparently some cops went around ticketing people that were violating the law. A representative from the police department had this to say: "...we can no longer rely on the integrity of society to regulate itself."I couldn't agree more... That's what the voices inside my head say all day long.

Terrorism and Rich White Guys
2007-08-12 03:13:00
So I do actually read other blogs out there. One in particular happens to be a good friend of mine and he runs Pelican Foul. This post is about the "Back in Black" post. I, being me of course need to offer my point of view on a thought he presents. He mentions the Minnesota bridge collapse. He also points out that the bridge in our hometown ranked a 3 out of 10 on a recent safety inspection. OK, that's to be expected in a city getting run down by greed, poverty, drugs and crime, and bad blogs. Anyways, he makes the link between the terrorists committing the heinous deed that they did in September 2001, and the assumption that us spending all of our resources on fighting terrorism takes our attention away from our own infrastructure. Therefore causing it to deteriorate. Let's talk about this for a second. First of all, any bridge you use on your daily commute, or any other structure government funded for that matter is done by the lowest bidder. Yes, that means all of you that live...

I'm not going to dogg the guy. Even before the steroid allegations against Barry Bonds in circa 2000, he was a star player throughout the nineties. Even if the steroids contributed to the record breaking sluggers numbers, does this mean that Babe Ruth and all the other guys were saints? I think the beer and coke might have had a little bit to do with the Babes success. That's just my two cents though. Congrats Barry Bonds.

Oh, we get to combine a few of my favorite things today. A video from the show Penn and Teller Bullshit! And Global warming and the Aqua fina tap water scandal. In honor of the recent Aquafina tap water scandal (if that's what you want to call it, I hopped on YouTube and found this hilarious segment from Penn and Teller Bullshit!. The climax has to be when the pompous couple tastes the "exquisite" selections of garden hose water. Idiots. A lot of people may not have realized also, the consumption of these mass amounts of bottled water are contributing to the climate crisis in a big way. I will stop buying it even the little bit that I do, and its more for the convenience than anything, of having portable water. If you must buy it I would recommend reusing the bottle at least 3 or four times too. I think I'm gonna watch the video again.
I Salute You, Obama
2007-08-01 02:58:00
I missed this part of the Debate last week. I found it on YouTube. I fell off the chair when I heard the question proposed by this gentleman. (I am assuming you have already watched the video).Reparations? Really? Every time this question is raised, there is never a suggestion provided by the person asking the question. What is the solution to this? Do you want money? Power? You can't put a price on the dark age of our country's history. Slavery was absolutely unacceptable! I agree with you? But please tell me what is it that we can do for you? I already compete with you in the workplace, so you have equal opportunity...And I am also no fool. I understand that racism does still exist. Several of my friends and co-workers deal with it on a daily basis. Let me tell you something, racism is a personal character flaw, not a flaw with society. And everyone needs to understand that! There is nothing holding anyone back, and I salute Mr Obama for his reaction to this question.

O.J. Simpson: Guilty Until Proven Guilty

Some of you think O.J. did it, some of you think he didn't. And a few of you are like me, you say, let the justice system figure it out, cause I don't care. Either way, if you write a book about well, anything, you shouldn't have to share it with anyone but those that have supported you right? Well a judge awarded the Goldman family 90% of all the proceeds of Simpson s book If I Did It: The OJ Simpson Book. Really, he was proven innocent? O yea, civil case. Since when do we ammend settlements? Is it because he's black? hmm?

Hillary Clinton Has Guts, Obama For President?
2007-07-25 16:45:00
I watched the CNN You Tube Democratic debate on CNN the other night. (Wow, how everything is a commercial now). I actually watched it. I liked alot of things I heard. There were other things that I didn't like as well. Hillary seemed very anxious to speak about the Climate Crisis, which I liked. In fact, I liked most of the responses she had to the questions posed. I liked alot of what Obama said too. Except, one little thing. After almost every response, he threw in the tacky, and "that's what I will do as president of the United States." Ok... I sort of figured that, thanks for reminding me. The best part of the debate was the occasional silly question thrown into the mix such as, "How relieved are all of you that Al Gore isn't running?" They all chuckled. And Clinton made the point, he already won a presidency before, just never served. Oh...how that made my night. Yes, Hillary has guts. She also had the guts to point out the fact that, really...there is no right way to pull o...

Who Let The Dogs Out: A Michael Vick Rant
2007-07-20 14:11:00
So 1,000 plus passing yards and 184 charges later, Michael Vick is back in the spotlight. This idiot is an all star football player, and apparently the multi-million dollar contract isn't enough to keep him occupied. No. He has to breed pit bulls for fighting in his spare time. Other celebrities help the poor and needy. Build houses for Katrina victims. Donate your time to a good cause? No, I think I will host a dog fighting tournament. And if any of my "dogs" don't make the cut out of training camp, they will be executed. Sound like a sick fairy tale? Read the indictment here. If this was me or you, we'd be sitting in jail staring at the cell wall. And I find it sad how the NFL and the Atlanta Falcons organization is debating whether or not to suspend him. Let's get real people. Yes you will lose a few bucks because your superstar isn't playing but hey, maybe you shouldn't have made a bad business decision in the first place.

More On Climate Crisis
2007-07-17 03:02:00
Earth is burning! Earth is burning! Really. I found the book that everyone should read on Amazon. I have written several posts about the climate crisis in the past, and I have referenced this book several times. And I strongly recommend reading it. As the title suggests, An Inconvenient Truth: The Planetary Emergency of Global Warming and What We Can Do About It there IS something we can do about this problem, and we as a species need to step up our game and do something about it! If you have already read this book I encourage you to comment about it here. We can make a difference! Of course there still is the possibility of the world ending on December 21, 2012, more on that to come...

I started blogging to pass time, and since then, I have fallen in love with it. Not because I enjoy writing, but because I discovered the community of it all or "blogosphere". I enjoy reading other peoples blogs, and they read mine. Ideas get exchanged, and if you want to know anything about anything, someone has probably blogged about it. To make a long story short, I wanted to post an article for all those new bloggers out there that are reading, maybe getting ideas, testing the waters of this new blogging thing. I have a couple things to tell you. One, there are no rules. You can blog about anything, any time, any way. In fact, there is a blog out there about, yes, you guessed it, blogging. Check it out at www.problogger.net. Two. Blogging means investing. Mainly it requires investing you time. Also a little bit of cash. There are many free blog hosting services out there such as Blogger, but you may want to consider purchasing a domain name for your blog, and as your blog grows,...
Local Legend: Sammy Van Halen
2007-07-13 04:00:00
Every village has its idiot. Mine lives within walking distance. He is Sammy Van Halen . Yes, you read it correctly. This character deserves a spot in the oddball hall of fame. His name is not really Sammy Van Halen, he legally changed his name to that because he is truly living in the 80s. Its so hard to describe this cat, so here is a little excerpt from his website, sammyvanhalen.com:"I spun my rotating jersey rack with the force of metal and pulled one out without even lookin. It ended up being one of my faves--black and red with my name on the back. It was time to go. It was time to cruise. I stepped out the door, flipped my Oakley's in the air, shook my bronze mane, and lifted my face to the sky just before my shades fell onto my face in perfect position. I hopped through the open window to my WRX, punched my dash to start my engine, then howled to the Gods to get my tricked-the-fuck-out stereo on fire. The sounds of AC/DC's "Dirty Deeds" took over my soul and commanded me to...

Hopefully everyone got to watch a little bit of the Live Earth Concert today. Just from the little bit I watched there were some great performances by Dave Matthews Band, Kelly Clarkson and many others. While I really wish that Al Gore would run for president in 2008, it seems like he can do more worthwhile things when he isn't running. Shows you how productive politics and bureaucracy is.The message behind this worldwide concert-event was to inform everyone on earth about global warming. This is a serious issue, and the major reason I stand behind Al Gore so strongly. Click here for a brief but disturbing overview of the Global Warming issue.

Hey Hey You You, I Don't Like Your Plagarism

Yes, that means you Avril Lavigne. Your new hit song "Boyfriend", all to familiar? That because the melody and half the words have already been released, before you were even born! Now I had never heard of The Rubinoo's or for that matter thier 1979 hit song "I wanna be your boyfriend". Now I am not totally dogging Avril here I must admit, I am a musician as well and any musician will tell you there is simply just nothing new under the sun, but when I heard this song by the Rubinoo's I thought Avril was doing the cover. On a side note I would like to extend my kudos to Buffalo Sabres management, on the recent signing of Thomas Vanek. We spent all our money, but we kept someone.

Breaking news from the National Hockey League (one of the sports I fancy). I happen to be a fan (not a bandwagon fan) of the Buffalo Sabres. I, as well as many other fans across the nation I'm sure, were very disapointed Sunday night when we learned that both captains had been lost to free agency. Chris Drury to the New York Rangers and Daniel Briere to the Philadelphia Flyers. I'm not going to drone on about this, but I would like to make the connection here between the US government and the Buffalo Sabres management. I think they operate very much the same. Hold out in hopes for something better, and neglect those who have been responsible for the majority of your success, to such extremes that they end up turning on you. Let's Go Buffalo.

Attention WWE Fans: This Act is Real!
2007-06-27 03:27:00
It sounds like something from a horror movie. You wake up on a Sunday morning and find your family dead. You can't remember the last 24 hours and soon come to realize that you are responsible for the brutal murdering of your family. And then you kill yourself. Well this time this is real. For WWE Superstar Chris Benoit this is his reality. Police are suspecting steroid induced rage, or "roid rage". How eloquent. Now of course there's not a whole lot known right now about exactly what went wrong. But that's ok America, because you will stick to this, you'll have the picture in picture set on your television so you don't miss a second of the Bobbie Cutts murder story either.Oh! And don't forget that Paris Hilton is back out of jail. What a relief! I can sleep at night now, knowing that you have been rehabilitated, after that long grueling, twenty something day sentence.

Pope Benedict XVI... And Why He Is Smarter Than Me
2007-06-25 23:20:00
I had a chance to start reading Pope Benedict XVI new book "Jesus of Nazareth". I was only able to read about three or four pages though. Not because I didnt like it. Not because a re-run of the final episode of the Sopranos was on. I simply did not understand it. Let me explain. I think that the pope wrote his book for a specific audience. That audience does not include me and you. Here's why. This book immediately gets into a very in depth discussion about the gospel. So in depth that, I think the pope forgets that not all of us are as adept in our faith as he. It is absolutely stunning how many thoughts and points he can cram into one page...one paragraph. I found myself reading the same paragraph over and over and over, just to get everything out of it. And then the thought crossed my mind. This is really a very badly written first few pages. The communication breakdown occurs almost immediately. So I began to wonder, who allowed this book to be published? Did anyone proofread ...
