The Godfather of Soul is dead

James Brown a.k.a the God father of Soul is dead. He was 73 years old. Brown was hospitalized with pneumonia at Emory Crawford Long Hospital on Sunday and died of conjunctive heart failure around 1:45 a.m on Christmas day. James Brown’s soulful lyrics, fast dancing and style has influenced generations. Everyone from Michael Jackson to Mick Jagger has aspired to be like Mr. Brown. His hits include Sex Machine and Say It Loud: I’m Black and I’m Proud. His contribution to music earned him lifetime achievement awards from the Grammys, Black Entertainment Television and many others. He was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986. His soul will live on through his music and will continue to influence young artists for decades to come.

Bono of U2 to be knighted

One of my favourite rockers is going to be knighted by the Queen. Bono (real name Paul David Hewson) will receive this huge honour after New Year’s from British ambassador to Ireland, David Reddaway, in Dublin. As a citizen of the Commonwealth I realise what a big honour this is and I really think that he deserves. He can be annoying at times but for the last 20 years he has worked very hard to bring awareness to the plights of poor Africans.

Inspired by how well Vanity Fair handled Jennifer Aniston’s interview when she split from Brad Pitt, Britney Spears has decided to tell all about her 2-year marriage to Kevin Federline. Britney signed a deal with the magazine to publish the interview. If true this will be the first time that Britney will speak to anyone about her marriage or the divorce. Um…am I supposed to care? I just want to know who does her weave because it’s just horrible. The girl could not look more nasty than she does in the pics below. Mary Kate Olsen stepped out with a new look recently and I really don’t like it. The bleached hair just looks nasty and unhealthy and doesn’t quite go with her complexion. Her Christian Louboutin shoes are great but the fur capelet is yet another reason why Mary-Kate deserves to make Peta’s worst dressed list.

Halle Berry to release an album??

There’s been a rumour flying around for a while that actress Hall e Berry told Essence magazine (December issue) that she’s working on an album, which is due to be released around February next year. When I first heard it I didn’t believe it and I still don’t but now a tracklisting has surfaced. I don’t read Essence but if this was true I’m sure something would have been confirmed by now. So unless an album is actually released next year, this one is just not true.

Just a few days after Lindsay Lohan complained of injuries sustained while taking pole dancing classes in preparation for her new film I Know Who Killed Me, Britney Spears hit the stage at burlesque club, 40 Deuce. Britney and some friends jumped on stage and shook their money makers for the crowd (just picturing it makes me a little sick). Brit, who was enjoying herself immensely, then unzipped her top and bared her bra (sure they didn’t see that one coming). She was asked by the club’s owner to get off the stage but she wouldn’t budge. I never realised that Britney was such an exhibitionist but since she left K-Fed, she’s just been flashing her stuff all over the place and frankly, I never wanted to see it.[source]

Miss USA gets to keep her crown

Normally a drug addiction and hard-partying and drinking (when you are underage) is more than enough to make a beauty queen lose her crown but Miss USATara Conner got lucky. Today Donald Trump announced that Tara would be keeping her crown and that she has agreed to go to rehab. He said that she made a mistake and deserves a second chance. Just a few days ago former Miss USA, Shanna Moakler, came to Conner’s defense, saying that there is a lot of pressure put on Miss USA. I was kinda hoping she’d lose the crown. What kind of message are they sending to all those superficial young girls whose sole purpose in life is to parade on a stage like a bunch asses.

Emo band Fall Out Boy premiered their latest video, It Ain’t A Scene, It’s an Arms Race on MTV today. I like Fall Out Boy a lot, their new single is hot but I’m not so sure about this video. Their new album, Infinity On High, drops February 6th, 2007. Click here to view the video.     Two videos were created for Beyonce ’s new single, Listen, which is from the Dreamgirls soundtrack. The first video was boring so it’s nice to have an alternative, I’m just not sure which is better. Click here to view the video.

Sean “Diddy ” Combs and longtime girlfriend, Kim Port er celebrated the birth of their twin girls on Thursday. Diddy’s rep, Robert Zimmerman, said: “The first arrived at 7:56 a.m. weighing 5 lbs., followed 2 minutes later by the second at 5 lbs., 4 oz. Diddy had a plane on standby in Toronto where he is filming Raisin in the Sun and made it just in the nick of time for the delivery. Both Kim and the girls are doing great.” The twins were named D’Lila Star Combs and Jessie James Combs after their grandmothers. Via his official MySpace page, Diddy thanked all his fans for their support. Diddy has 2 other children (a son from a previous relationship and a son with Kim Porter).[source]

Victoria Beckham to star as an alien

Tom Cruise has cast Victoria Beck ham as an alien bride in his new Scientology film, The Thetan. Victoria is Katie Holmes’ new BFF so it’s not hard to see how she could have landed the role plus she resembles an alien so… People are saying that Katie is determined to see Victoria excel in the movie industry and is doing everything in her power to help her land major roles. I haven’t seen Spice World but I’m pretty sure the acting was horrible so I’m not expecting much from Victoria. I just want to know what happened to her children. Last time I checked she had 3 kids (with really gay names) and a husband living in Spain. So why the hell is she always hanging around TomKat. Update:Tom Cruise’s reps are saying that he is not making a Scientology film and that Victoria Beckham has not been cast in anything.

Rumours have been going around for weeks that Beyonce is jealous of the acclaim that Jennifer Hudson has received for her role as Effie White in the upcoming film, Dreamgirls. But it appears that Beyonce wasn’t the jealous one. Her father Matthew Knowles was more than a little disappointed when Jennifer Hudson turned down an offer to join his Music World Entertainment management company. That hasn’t stopped Mr. Knowles from going around pretending that he’s her manager. All of this behaviour just sounds so immature. He even tried to get the studio to cut Jennifer’s screen time in the movie so Beyonce would be featured more. In an effort to boost his daughter’s career he almost managed to tarnish her reputation. Beyonce to re-release ?B?Day?

Beyonce is planning to re-release her #1 album - B’Day. The re-release will include about 3 new tracks including a Spanish version of Irreplaceable, which is currently #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. There will also be a Spanglish duet with my girl Shakira entitled Beautiful Liar. That is going to be interesting because I can’t see how their voices are going to work together. Beyonce says that she has great love for Latin people and Latin music even though she doesn’t speak the language. I personally wasn’t impressed with the original B’Day album so I don’t get why she thinks this is necessary. After having to listen to songs like Ring The Alarm, I really can’t take much more of Miss Beyonce.

Arena names Rihanna Queen of R&B

Arena Magazine named Rihanna the Queen of R&B, which is a bit controversial. As a Bajan I’m happy for any kind of acclaim Rihanna receives but it’s kind of hard to agree with this decision. Despite winning three Billboard Music Awards including Female Artist of the Year, Rihanna didn’t receive a single Grammy nomination. On the other hand, someone like Mary J. Blige deserves such a title. She had an amazing album and she’s won plenty of awards this past year. And let’s not forget the of Grammy nominations she received. I don’t know what the criteria was for this title but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t based on talent alone.

High School Musical’s Ashley Tisdale and Hayden Pane ttiere of Heroes are both releasing albums next year. The two have been linked to producer JR Rotem, who had his 15 minutes of fame last week after being spotted kissing Britney Spears. I’ve heard Ashley Tisdale sing and I wasn’t remotely impressed. I have no idea if Hayden Panettiere can sing. I just wish all these little pop tarts would spare me and stop trying to be the next Hilary Duff.

Paris Hilton is to get married

Uh huh. Paris Hilton reportedly told the Daily Star that she plans on marrying boyfriend, Stavros Niarchos and that Britney Spears will be her matron of honour. The last thing I heard was that Paris and Brit are not friends anymore. And Paris denied defending Britney on MySpace, with her publicist saying that she doesn’t even have a MySpace page. Plus Stavros’ parents don’t approve of Paris and just a few days ago it was rumoured that he was trying to tame Paris’ ways in order to please his parents. If Paris does get married I hope it lasts longer that Nicky’s wedding or at least longer that Britney’s first (but it probably won’t).

Oprah to get two reality shows

The queen of daytime talk, Oprah Winfrey, has pitched two reality shows to ABC. The first show called Oprah Winfrey’s The Big Give is about a group of 10 people who each week will be given money and resources. The challenge is to find ways to help others, which plays up Oprah’s humanitarian side. The other show is reminiscent of ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. The show called Your Money or Your Life focuses on families in trouble and will give them a financial and home makeover. As if Oprah isn’t rich enough already she now wants to take over reality TV.[source]
