We're off to Vegas, baby!
2008-10-10 22:24:00 Are you up for a trip to the spectacular city otherwise known as Las Vegas ? Trust me, there's no place like Sin City and there's no show like PubCon. Vegas will be hosting the 2008 edition of PubCon, the conference for SEO and Search Marketing professionals and I will be there representing Voxant and Commission Videos. I'll also be speaking on a panel at the conference about a subject everyone who uses the Voxant Newsroom should be familiar with: Making money! The panel is called Video and Multimedia Advertising - Show Me the Money! and below is a more detailed description of the panel. Description: The multimedia landscape is exploding with activity. Podcasts, Vlogs, and screen casts are multiplying monthly. However, successful business models for this "stuff" are few and far between. This session will look at the various methods of monetizing audio and video from your personal vlog to the corporate enterprise level site. If you're already going to be at Pub... More About: Baby
Don't let paperwork prevent you from getting paid
2008-10-01 23:35:00 We're proud of the strong network we've built at Voxant -- we have over 35,000 distributors -- and we happily sent out payments to our distributors for August today. But guess what? We were only able to pay about 10 percent of the people who were eligible for payment! Why? Because people didn't have their tax forms and PayPal ids in! Make sure you've got your papers right, people! Here are the three simple steps on how to get paid: 1) Generate $50 worth of revenue in order to be eligible for a payout 2) Get your tax form (Either a W8 or W9, depending on if you're a US citizen or not) in by mail or fax Mail to: Voxant, Inc.Distributor Payment Forms520 Herndon Parkway, Suite HHerndon, VA 20170 Fax to: 1-703-707-9407 3) Enter your PayPal id in myRevenue That's it. No stress, no drama. So please make sure you're not missing out on money you've earned because of paperwork. We want to pay you. Help us, help you. If you have any other problems or questions about getting p... More About: Paid
Payments delayed this month
2008-10-01 00:08:00 Just a heads up to all Voxant users: Payments will be late this month, but only by a day. The payments will be going out tomorrow (Oct. 1) as opposed to usually going out at the end of the month. Apologies for any inconveniences this may cause. Keep embedding more Voxant videos and keep making more money! - Angela Lauria, General Manager of Long Tail Network More About: Month
Something old, something new
2008-09-09 20:16:00 You might have noticed something different when you embedded your latest asset from the Voxant Newsroom. Surprise! We launched a new player! Our new player launched a few weeks ago and now that it's been running in our network for a good amount of time, we wanted to formally announce its launch and get your feedback. The top three features of the new player are: 1) Slicker look and feel. Our new player is bringing sexy back. We've put the video first, rather than having just the thumbnail and the description first, we now display the headline as overlay of the video. Our play buttons are now a light shade of blue and they've been tweaked to look sexier. Like our new play button? 2) Performance improvement. Loading times have been improved with the new player. It should now load faster than before. In fact, there has been a 20 percent decrease in load time, assuming broadband connection. (Is anyone still on dial-up?) This is because Voxant's player is lighter than other playe...

The Olympics are over, but you can still relive the glory
2008-08-27 20:31:00 The Olympics ended with a spectacular closing ceremony on Sunday evening, as London was officially passed the Olympic torch. Leona Lewis came out looking like a plant thing, Jimmy Page played the guitar and David Beckham posed for the cameras and kicked a soccer ball. The things one does for one's country, eh? Even though all of the excitement is over in Beijing, you can still relive the highlights of all the great Olympic moments and weigh on who your favorite athletes were or what events blew you away. Last week, we covered the top 5 most viewed Olympic videos from 8/8/08-8/18/08, this week, we'll look at the most viewed Olympics videos from 8/18/08-8/26/08.1) 17,225 Views Track and Field are easily one of the biggest draws at the Summer Games, and you guys apparently in step with that trend. Every four years, Americans get interested in floor routines, balance beams and uneven bars. The ladies who went to Beijing representing the USA were some of the best and the brightest in the gymnastics world, rivaled closely by the Chinese. 3) 34,512 Views The Williams ... The Olympics are live in the Voxant Newsroom
2008-08-11 21:24:00 Don't miss out on all of the amazing feats and nail-biting events from the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing. Just last night, Michael Phelps, Cullen Jones, Jason Lezak and Garret Weber-Gale snatched victory right out of the jaws of the trash-talking French in the 4-x-100 relay. It was one of those moments that only the Olympics can provide, full of apprehension, excitement and victory. Not to mention overwhelming sense of pride and accomplishment that swept over the young American team, and the viewing audience. Monumental seems to be the best word to describe it. The Voxant Newsroom has the Olympics covered, monumental moments and all. We've got images from strong photo groups such as Newscom, SIPA Press, European PressPhoto Agency and Getty Images. We've got Olympic video from Reuters, the Associated Press, the BBC, CBS and other local outlets. Of course, due to certain licensing restrictions we don't have footage from the actual events, but our content providers get exc... More About: Live

Changes
2008-06-24 21:06:00 As you all might have noticed, things have been a little quiet on this blog recently. That is due to the departure of our senior editor, Evan McMorris-Santoro. He will be moving on to work at "The National Journal" and we wish him the best of luck. Since Evan's leaving left us with a vacant position at the top of the editorial department, I have stepped in to the senior editor role and will be taking over from now on. As you can imagine, this transition requires me to shift and juggle several tasks and plans, and one of the tasks I've been re-thinking is the blog. I'm going to take some time to work on some ideas I have for the blog and I am very open to any suggestions if you all have any. What information would you find useful on the blog? What do you like about the blog? What do you not like about it? I'm all ears. You can leave your suggestions in the comments section below. Thank you for bearing with me during this transitional period. - Ricky Ribeiro,...

Following up (June CPM Rates and Auto-play)…
2008-06-10 19:57:00 As we announced in late May, we are now only paying for ad impressions from advertiser-preferred areas (North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand). We’re currently building out a new reporting infrastructure to support this change that will have much more detail and many more options, but as we are building that out, our current options in MyRevenue are somewhat limited. We hope to have the new version of MyRevenue out this summer. Meanwhile, what you will see in MyRevenue is all the impressions you have earned each day from visitors originating in North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. We do not pay generally for traffic from Asia, Africa, and South America. Please note that see in MyRevenue only represents your total payable impressions. We calculate this through our player. To clarify, our player reads the IP address and reports it back to us - then we work with Doubleclick, our ad serving partner, to parse out the payable impressions from the non-pa... Guest Post: How McCain can beat Obama
2008-06-02 21:16:00 Editor's Note: This is the third in a series of guest posts by political strategist Ed Grefe. For more on Grefe as well as his previous posts, click here. John McCain should be elected the next President of the United States. It’s really his election to lose. How he handles himself in terms of setting the agenda and delivering his message to the country will make the difference. In politics there are a lot of slogans. Most are linked to experience. When it comes to strategy and staying on message, they include: March to the sound of your own drummer Build from your own strength With a clear message and a coherent strategy you may win, you may lose; without either you will lose – so stick to your game plan. There are many issues that could serve as the basis for voters to make up their mind. One will be the wars – in Iraq, in Afghanistan, in areas of the world where Al Qaeda units are gestating.A second issue – the nation is looking for someone who is ... One man's trash.... - 5.29.08 Voxant Today
2008-05-29 19:45:00 As they say, one man's trash is another man's treasure. Or in this case, one man's trash is another man's meal. There are people who go digging for their meals in dumpsters, or as the Brits call them, rubbish bins. They’re called Freegans. The Freegans are a thrifty bunch but they don't scavenge through trash just because they’re cheap, they're also out to show how much First World countries waste food. June Payment and Auto-Play News
2008-05-28 23:11:00 Starting June 1st, we will have a new system in place to evaluate traffic based on geography (meaning we’ll know exactly where your impressions are coming from) and we’ll be changing how we pay for impressions based on that. In our ad sales efforts, we have been unable to find market demand for audiences in many areas overseas. Therefore, moving forward, we will only be compensating you for impressions that come from North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Good news for those of you who are interested in auto-play! We’re opening up the option for this to our entire network. We won’t be paying for any international impressions generated with auto-play, but we will compensate you for any domestic impressions your auto-play assets generate. Other than the elimination of international traffic, the only change we’ve made to the June CPMs is that text/image impressions will be move from a $0.25 CPM to a $0.10 CPM.
