I came across this show sometime in 2002 with some trepidation. I heard many good things but I just wasn’t impressed. It seemed really generic with little in the way of original characters and premises. Bounty-hunters in space?? After watching the first episode, this re-affirmed my belief that this was going to be another average show. Something however spurred me on to the second episode. It was one of the best anime related decisions I’ve ever made. Story (10/10) - There’s a very good story arc here which encompasses all the major characters. Seeing the show grow from it’s bare foundations always made for enjoyable viewing. Yes, it had a very slow start, but it picks up from there. In effect (and this is something not easily accomplished), each episode can be both viewed either mutually inclusive or exclusive of each other. Since I’m almost done with the series (just waiting on Eclipse for the last episode), I thought I’d write my take on the whole thing. Story: What story? While we end up seeing background story for all of the characters, the feel of it all remains the same. The over-all driving plot point is a bit thin, and by the end, I found myself wishing there had been more. Art: The animation is great. There are a few jerky moments - most noticeable when Itsuki starts using mart…ial arts - but the majority is clean. Sound: I love the opening theme to this. Otherwise, I hardly noticed the music at all. It fades into the background as the action progresses. Could be better, could be worse. Character: One-dimensional cardboard cut-outs, propped up and made to look cute. No, really. Wow. Just wow. After watching the last episode of Kimikiss, I can say that this was one of the best romance animes I’ve seen in a long while. Story The story is so simple … it’s about true love. We all chase it, but not all catch it. And that’s what our two main guys are doing as well. Revolving around the typical high-school environment, two events of the first episode put a whole romance story in motion, a romance story you probably won’t forget that e…asy. It seems so simple and human that you easy forget about this world and live the feelings of the characters involved in this story. As in all romance animes, the drama can’t miss out, and you’ll find many moments when you’ll actually feel like crying if you put yourself in a certain character’s situation (like I do, usually). H2O: Footprints in the Sand is a Psychological, Supernatural, Romance anime about a blind junior-high boy (Takuma) who moves to a quite rural town. He is given the given the gift of sight in order for him to help the people who need it the most. The story to H2O is very simple and easy to follow however it tends to randomly add developments, just to complicate matters. After the first couple episodes you will begin to wonder when all the unexplained stuff will be explained but the…re’s no real urgency with this series. There seems to be a number of underlining plots in the story such as: the family name and honour, bullying, spirits, etc. The problem with this is that the story doesn’t have any real focus and just brings up stuff for its own convenience, rather than focusing on the actual romance. Trigun one of the three great space cowboy westerns. It’s also like fullmetal alchemist in that this anime was finished when the manga wasn’t even half way finished but is still really cool. ANIMATION It’s a older anime but it still looks really good. The action scenes are some of the best you will ever see and the background is nicely detialed and it’s fun to watch it get destoyed half the time. As for the characters they have some to the coolest/weirdest looks ever. SOUND They have some nice sounds in here, nothing award winning, but it’s good and only used when needed. What is really good is the sound effects and the great acting. CHARACTERS Vash-he is kind of like Kenshin with a gun but he is twice the pacifist Kenshin could ever be. Though the first season lacked clarity and storyline, Jigoku Shoujo ’s second season, Jigoku Shoujo Futakomori, managed to fill in some gaps that opened during the first season. Throughout the series, Jigoku Shoujo Futakomori remains generally the same as the first season - a series of one-shots, with the exception of the ending, which consists of an arc of several episodes. The scenarios presented in this season seem much more outlandish than the first, yet, somehow, accomplish the task of presenting how fragile, how selfish, how simply ridiculous human nature can be. After the first wave of shock that came after the end of each episode, each victim or culprit, or whoever ripped the string off of or was the victim of Enma Ai’s voodoo doll, seems real and understandable. Loveless is one of the best and quiet animes out there in my opinion. But unlike animes like Elfen Lied, I feel opinions can be debatable one way or another. Animation: Very well balanced with brightness and darkness. The light hits people that live in this dark world. I like the lighting and how it mixes very well into this dark themed world. The character designs are new to people who aren’t too fast to jump into yaoi series(like me!). Honestly, I haven’t seen any character design similar from the fact of the eye shape and the hair but the art style in general is basic/typical anime art style. It never grows old, in my opinion, so everything about the art is 2 thumbs up! Audio: The voices for this anime fits the characters very well and you never feel disappointed when you hear a character speak. The only problem I had with the voices was Yuiko’s voice at 1st. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of Tactics . It was a mix of comedy, the supernatural and even a hint (and I mean a very slight hint!) of shounen-ai. Animation: The animation was very appealing. The backgrounds looked good and although there is some CGI, it’s minimal and actually blends well with the animated sections it was used with! The ghosts and demons were done really well, as were the impressive scenes of buildings burning down, but for me the high point of this anime is the character design! Kantarou is so cute and the details of his costumes were wonderful and his spell casting looked so good. Haruka and Sugino looked fantastic and for once their wings looked impressive! The cute characters were really cute and for a change the older people weren’t portrayed as being old and ugly *lol* Sound: The op theme is really nice and fits so well with the feel of what you’re about to watch, as did the ed theme and the BGM. As you know, 2008 is not a very good year for shoujo-ai/yuri. At least for now. So I decided to rewatch one of my favorite shoujo-ai anime of all time, Strawberry Panic . How good it is? Well, you can see down there… Story I don’t know how to explain this one but this is the weakest part in this series. However it is not THAT bad. The story follows the life of Nagisa Aoi, who just transferred to Astrea Hill. While she staying there she also uncovers the mystery that surrounds Shizuma Hanazono, the only Etoile at Astrea Hill. The main story also focused on romance between Hikari Konohana and Amane Ohtori which are not the main characters. The only my problem with the story is it moves pretty slow, but being a shoujo-ai, it doesn’t need to be as ‘fast and furious’ as shounen ones.
