Netflix Review In A Minute: Year of the Dog
2008-03-24 18:31:00 Wow. What a bizarre movie. I can't say I liked it, but I can't say I hated it. Written and produced by Mike White, who has credits in Freaks and Geeks, The Good Girl, and Nacho Libre, I'm not sure what I was necessarily expecting...but I wasn't expecting this. The movie follows Molly Shannon, in a roll where she doesn't actually over act everything a la...well...every other movie she's been in, who after the death of her dog/best friend comes face to face with the fact that she had no other purpose than to take care of her dog...and struggles to find her life's purpose. Her personality does a 180 as she becomes entangled in animal rights movements and working with the local pounds to find homes for dogs on death row. She falls for a dog trainer who was either gay, bi, a eunuch, a man into bestiality...either way...he had a Norman Bates quality that sent shivers down my spine...even though I don't think it was supposed to.I guess I just don't get the message (even after readin... 4,000 Reasons to Vote
2008-03-24 18:19:00 Not really a mile stone we'd like to celebrate, but actually need to keep in mind with the coming election...Nico Pitney has created a mosaic of 4,000 soldiers who have been killed in the war in Iraq, started by and will continue if elected, George W. Bush and blood thirsty John McCain.Writes Pitney, "In remembrance of the 4,000 brave men and women who sacrificed everything for us ? and the two men who would continue this great tragedy, despite the cost to our soldiers, our military, and our nation."Though there are some duplicates in the mosaic, as it was impossible to obtain EVERY dead soldier's photo, it's still sad and frightening to look at.[SOURCE] More About: Vote , Reasons

Weekly Kabbalah Tune Up
2008-03-23 17:45:00 How do you have certainty when the doctor is calling with bad news, when the government is padlocking your front door, when your child is suffering from illness? Let's be realistic here, most of us aren't on that level, yet.For the rest of us who haven't yet mastered certainty consciousness, it's a process that looks like this: we have doubt, we acknowledge the doubt is from the Opponent, and we move on.Our souls don't know what fear, anxiety, or worry means. Depression? Never heard of it. It's only our ego that is blind to true reality, therefore allowing lack and uncertainty to resonate.Certainty means, although we are struggling on this path, we go forward anyway, constantly reminding ourselves, this doubt doesn't belong to me. It's the Opponent messing with my head. That's certainty. And when you take that step forward, your certainty gets stronger the next time out, so that when you fight the next round of doubts, you don't have to fight as hard.Eventually you reach a... Top 10 Songs That Put The Hitch In My GiddyUp
2008-03-21 20:32:00 10. Since You've Been Gone - Kelly Clarkson: Shortly after Behind These Hazel Eyes came out, my friend's boring, blue-blooded, boyfriend whined that Since You've Been Gone pales in comparison to Eyes. I almost collapsed from dizziness cause my eyes couldn't stop rolling. Gone is a great song...though...I do like to rock out to Miss Independent sometimes. JUDGED.9. I Believe In A Thing Called Love - The Darkness: GREAT song. It gives me a certain "Queen" feeling. It's kind of a shame The Darkness were such a flash-in-the-pan band, but they did give us a great song on their way out. Hearing this song makes me wish I had a car so that I could just turn up the stereo and head bang at red lights. God I miss those days.8. Like It Or Not - Madonna : Love it. I love her in general. But I put this song on, slap some sunglasses on my face, and strut down the posh 30th avenue of Astoria feeling like 'the shit'. It's a real "I don't give a fuck what ya'lls think...I'ma keep doing my t... More About: Songs , Nelly Furtado , Top 10

Netflix Review In A Minute: Pan's Labyrinth
2008-03-20 19:49:00 What a great movie...which is kind of surprising coming from a director attached to the movie Hell Boy and the soon to be released, Hell Boy 2....but it was great!I initially thought it'd be more "Alice in Wonderland-esque", and that it wouldn't really balance the time between the real world, and some magical, demon-fairy filled world, like it did, but I'm still pleased. The Captain just amazed me at his fascist cruelty, and he had some of the most gruesome and bloody scenes in the film. The only scene I liked seeing, of those, was the one between The Captain and Mercedes. Mercedes quickly became my favorite over Ofelia. Ofelia was cute and all, and I know she's a child....but that scene where she draws a door on the way to retrieve a key and isn't allowed to eat ANYTHING...of course she does...even after the fairies try and stop her..drove me crazy. I just sat there and thought "how stupid can you be?". The movie is definitely a fairy tale for adults, and I can't imagine pare... More About: Review , Netflix , Minute , Labyrinth

Pro-Life, Pro-Moron
2008-03-19 16:59:00 While it's nice to see opposition to secret-gay-sex loving, Larry Craig, I'm not sure this is the kind of retaliation I was looking for.Meet Pro-Life . Yep, that's his name."A Senate candidate has legally changed his name to Pro-Life and will appear on the ballot that way this year, state election officials say.As Marvin Pro-Life Richardson, the organic strawberry farmer from Letha, 30 miles northwest of Boise, was denied the use of his middle name when he ran unsuccessfully for governor in 2006 because the state's policy bars the use of slogans on the ballot. Now, though, officials in the Idaho secretary of state's office say they have no choice because Pro-Life is his full and only name. He says he will run for the highest state office on the ballot every two years for the rest of his life, advocating murder charges for doctors who perform abortions and for women who obtain the procedure."I think it's just and I think it's proper to have Pro-Life on the ballot," he told the I...
Happy Hump Day!
2008-03-19 16:34:00 Well it's miserable day here in NYC; It's pouring rain. Not much to report. I watched an awful movie last night (see previous post) and tonight I believe I'm going to watch Pan's Labyrinth. I want to see the movie...but you know when a movie gets talked about so much and how good it is and how you sooo have to see it, and then the idea of watching it becomes daunting? That's how I feel about Pan's...but I will try. A new episode of World's Dumbest Criminals is airing tomorrow night at 9pm on truTV and you should alllll watch it. I'd really appreciate it. Other than that, I got nothing. This week's hump day treat is an Israeli model by the name of Omri Chasin. Click [HERE] for more pics. Enjoy!Ok. That's it for me, kids. Netflix Review In A Minute: In The Land Of Women
2008-03-19 16:14:00 Ok, I'll admit I wasn't expecting to witness the world's greatest movie when I added this to my queue...I mainly just wanted to gaze upon Adam Brody outside of an 'O.C.' context...but this was one of the crappiest films I've ever seen...and this is coming from a dude who owns a movie called 'Space Truckers'.The directorial debut from Jon Kasdan, who has more credits as an actor than a writer OR director, makes me wonder if he has a wealthy uncle to fund this movie. Kasdan's only writing credits include 1 episode of 'Freaks and Geeks' and 2 episodes of 'Dawson's Creek'. Yeah, clearly, his writing should be given the green light for a full length feature film. [SOURCE]With that in mind, it becomes painstakingly clear why this film reads like a first semester, film school student's midterm project. It's like Kasdan was grasping at straws from the beginning, trying to add more and more drama to mask the fact that he doesn't know how to develop characters or even how to ... Daily Affir-gay-tions
2008-03-18 22:27:00 Thanks to all of you who have responded to my post, "The (Sequined) Golden Calf". It was nice to get some responses that mirrored my own. It's hard to find people who share your dreams of deemphasizing a hyper sexualized gay society and emphasizing a society made up of more than mere sex objects. I wanted to share some of the responses below.Fellow reformed Dlister, Brian had this to say:"I think gay culture (for the most part) has this narcissism problem that's rooted in deep underlying insecurities. Whether its from societal rejection or more personal set backs, we gay guys seem to need constant little affirmations that we're "hot" or "fuckable" or something.I don't get it, but it does definitely seem that lots of the younger gay men are perpetually stuck in their own version of "Mean Girls" I couldn't agree more, Brian. I think narcissism is a problem deeply routed in gay society...and I believe that narcissistic tendencies stem from self doubt and a hidden layer of low self... More About: Daily
Up And At Them!
2008-03-18 21:45:00 After yesterday's, 'Joy of Text', I wanted to post an update on the whole "bad decision making" windfall. Upon further reflection, (and an evening of watching hilarious episodes of 'Frasier'), I've decided not to head back towards the ol' seasonal depression. While nothing is ever going to happen with "the boy" again, I will move on. Besides, usually around this time of year, you begin to want some companionship for the spring and summer months ahead. Maybe I didn't even want to see "the boy" again...I think I just wanted someone who I knew, had at least in the past, wanted me....which is incredibly selfish, and I'm glad I'm moving on. The Danny of 2007 held on to grudges and became rather obsessive over relationships (romantic or not) and it's time to hoist the anchor and move on. 2008 is a year of personal growth, and that can't be bogged down by the past, or boys in my life now pulling the same 'flakey' attitude trap I would've fallen hard into, a year ago. Not now... More About: Astoria
My Dating Pool Is Getting Smaller
2008-03-18 21:31:00 File this under "I can't believe he didn't know that"...but I've been living in Astoria for almost 2 years now and I'm just learning about the proximity of the famous Rikers Island. Nestled between the Bronx and Queens (Astoria), the island is technically part of the Bronx, even though it has a Queens zip code, and the only way onto the island is via a bridge in Queens [SOURCE]. According to Google Maps, I am a mere 13 minute cab ride from Future Husband Island.Apparently City Corrections is trying to cut down on the ammount of inmates at Rikers Island, by 25%. Sadness! I gotta get out there quickly before all the good ones get taken somewhere fancier...like Jersey or...uh...Delaware. [SOURCE] More About: Dating , Pool
Losing My Religion
2008-03-18 21:07:00 I love when members of the media write about Kabbalah . It's always either a religion or a cult that is a huge Hollywood fad. It pains me to know that these people aren't even taking 5 seconds to wikipedia or google the word 'kabbalah' to learn that it's no where near a religion or a cult. It's more of a 'philosophy' if you will....that's also been around for thousands of years. Yes, long before Madonna and Sandra Bernhardt started studying. These are the same people we rely on giving us factual news? Anyway, recently, Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher (fellow students of Kabbalah) have come under scrutiny when recent photos had found them not sporting the red string around their left wrist. News posts were flying about how Demi and Ashton "left the religion" and how "Madonna is upset over Demi and Ashton turning their back on their religion".Well, in the latest issue of V mag, he goes on to dispel some of the ridiculous claims that one can even "leave" something that's not a r... 2008-03-17 22:45:00 Wow. Talk about bad decisions. Um. Ok....first up. Happy St. Patrick's day! Yeah, I know...unless you're actually FROM Ireland or a 43 year old ex-frat boy, this day doesn't mean shit...but still...I remember back in the day when my family would take me to McDonald's and we'd get shamrock shakes. I did learn, until recently, that shamrock shakes were merely vanilla shakes died green. But they taste different I swear! Um, also, most of my childhood memories involve food.ANYhoozles, the weekend is over and it's back to work....which I'm ok with. I spent Friday night watching An Inconvenient Truth and actually got to bed at a decent time. I'm wrapping up work on my tattoo, which is great because the place I go to is apparently moving into Brooklyn...and this homo aint making trips out there for a tattoo...I'll have to find a new place. Now to the "bad decisions" part. After the tattooing, I of course went shopping. Hitting up Urban on 14th and 6th, I had picked up some sweet su... More About: Text
The (Sequined) Golden Calf
2008-03-17 21:07:00 There are literally tens of social networking web sites available at your finger tips. I remember when Friendster.com was the place to be. Then slowly Facebook.com emerged, but in it's early years, was only open to a handful of universities. So, like many others I knew, we had to join CollegeFacebook.com (unrelated site) until Facebook finally opened it's flood gates and let everyone in. FINALLY! A way to let the social networking community that I like dudes, BUT I'm also in a 'serious relationship' with another girl I go to school with! Ha! Get it?! Cause I'm gay! How. Original. Am. I?Then one summer I was introduced to Myspace by my friend Carol, and it's been a love/hate relationship ever since. No doubt, if you're a member of Myspace, you've seen the millions of ads marketing OTHER social networking sites. After months of being bombarded by what purported to be the new 'Gay Myspace', I decided to give in and check out Dlist.com. Afterall, as a regular at Mr.Black on ... More About: Golden
Netflix Review In A Minute: An Inconvenient Truth
2008-03-17 20:46:00 Wow. For starters. I loves me some Al Gore. I don't know why...I just get the feeling that he'd be fun to hang out with...and I bet Tipper knows some saucy anecdotes...ANYway. This. Movie. Was. Amazing. Where else can I walk away feeling compelled to save the planet, but am also left feeling like a pile of crap for taking part in the destruction of the only home we've ever known, Earth. As you can imagine, it's a documentary AND it's being narrated by Al Gore. Not what you would consider could add up to a riveting, fast paced cinema experience...but nestled under a blanket, killing time on a Friday evening, it makes for a rather enjoyable experience. While there is plenty to say about Gore's jab at the Bush administration (and rightfully so), he doesn't merely focus on the born-again retard Bush's lack of environmental concern. Ever since his college days Gore has had an interest in the environment and has been passionate about it every step of the way. The film does a great j... Weekly Kabbalah Tune Up
2008-03-16 21:22:00 It's not so easy to be spiritual in tough times, is it? Why?Spirituality, by the kabbalistic definition, means facing chaos and transforming it into order. It means you walk into the eye of the hurricane and you turn it into a sunny day. That's the definition of spiritual. The chaos of life is what gives us the opportunity. Our instinct is to run from chaos. When there is a mortgage crisis, global crisis, political crisis, environmental crisis, it's an opportunity to be transformed into its opposite state. This transformation is not something that takes place externally, which is what the Opponent makes us think. Rather, it's got to be transformed within our own consciousness. Science teaches us the law of cause and effect. You plant an apple seed ? that's the cause ? and when the apples appear dangling on the branches ? that's the effect. Taking it one step further, Kabbalah teaches the same. Consciousness is the cause, the physical world is the effect. Kabbalists don't go ar... More About: Weekly , Tune

Top 5 Things That Creep Me Out
2008-03-14 22:42:00 5. Urinal Troughs: Go to a gay bar in NYC and you're bound to run into a urinal trough. No more privacy for you! No more having to crane your neck to check out your neighbors package! They take out the middle man for you. It's fucking gross and creepy to walk into a bathroom and drop trow next to a bunch of creepy old dudes who were cruising you at the bar and have no full access to watch you pee. Whenever I see the trough, I have to wait in line for a stall. 4. Dog Poop Grabbers: I'm always glad to see people actually picking up after their animals. I used to work on West 55th and had to walk down the street between 8th and 9th avenues...and I had to dub it 'Shit Street' because NObody picks up after their dogs. It's all piles of poo surrounded by golden rivers. What grosses me out, are the people who walk around with little baggies and pick the poo up like it's no problem. Most of them using newspaper bags...that probably have some microscopic holes in them...POO! It's gro... More About: Things

She Lost Control? Awhhaaaaaaaaaaat?
2008-03-14 20:44:00 Ok...so I know I promised not to post about Britney...but here it is. Reports are going around that Britney paid $2,000 to have her "Kabbalah " tattoo removed from the back of her neck."Back in 2004, after briefly falling in with Madonna and her Kabbalah clique, Britney Spears had the Hebrew letters, "mem," "hey," and "shin" tattooed on the nape of her neck. While some claim this combination of letters, "evokes the consciousness of healing," other reports say it's "just gibberish."Doesn't matter much now, as recent photos appear to show that the mother of two has has done a bit of tattoo erasing.According to one source, the pop princess recently spent $2,000 having the tattoo laser-removed. And friends are saying Brit had the tattoo removed to express the tailspin her life entered in the last year."When she got the tattoo, Britney was in control of her life and her career," one pal says. "The whole world can see she's lost control, and the tattoo made her feel like a hypocrite." [... More About: Lost , Control

Blogging the Kabbalah LIVE Event
More articles from this author:2008-03-13 17:29:00 Well! I got the chance to sneak out of work last night and head on over to the Kabbalah Center on East 48th for the Best Kept Secret free seminar. I had gone to a free lecture there before and I assumed this seminar would be different, and it was.For the most part....I arrived a half hour before the seminar started, to sign in, and the lobby was PACKED. They were signing people in, selling huge ass cookies, coffee, water, etc. and people were just mingling waiting to go upstairs for the seminar. So I signed in and stood by the elevators hoping to snag a seat in the back so I could observe from a far.Well I got upstairs in the first elevator group and they told me to sit in the front (damn!). Oh well. So I was dead center for the seminar...in between a hyper gay queen and an obviously straight man who took notes the entire time.It was nice to see so many people without the red string...which says that the Center was able to draw in outside crowds of people who would be actually inter...
