A Tic In The Mind's Eye
2008-04-22 07:18:00 It is Monday night and I will admit I?m sitting lazily on the couch with my laptop. I have already visited my favorite blogs and sites. For the past half hour I have been wondering aimlessly online. It is fun to fall upon new sites and check them out.Tonight I visited a really interesting and unique site. With the name A Tic In The Mind's Eye, you know this blog can?t be dull. In one post the author writes about some of the reviews he has been receiving. Apparently people can?t quite figure out what his site is all about. I would call it light hearted with a hodge-podge of topics ranging from the spiritual to the humorous. I love unique and personal blogs, and this one falls under these categories. It is worth checking out.
Surfing Blogs
2008-04-21 23:08:00 In my free time (late at night, when the kids are in bed) I enjoy surfing the net and finding new and interesting blogs to read. I love finding sites similar to mine, ?The mommy blogs?. How ever I also enjoy reading about people leading a different life then mine. Their views on the world may or may not be different, but they always bring a new perspective for me to consider.Today I came across hisam and her blog. The author?s definition of life is described as a series of experiences waiting to happen. Explaining that we need to step outside of ourselves and take a chance to chase our dreams or we will never understand or experience life as we are meant to be. I like what she wrote and I can?t help but believe that it is true. After reading this, I knew I was going to like her blog. This author lives such an exotic life in comparison to me. She calls herself crazy and a little lazy, but she if finding herself. She is also into computers and playing the game cricket. Cricket... More About: Surfing , Blogs
Bingo Beach Weekend
2008-04-21 19:30:00 Our 3rd Annual Moms Beach Weekend was a huge success!Due to newborns, scheduling conflicts and illness a few of our moms sadly were unable to attend this year. However the 6 of us who could attend enjoyed a quieter (but just as enjoyable) beach weekend. There were no hangovers this time. A few of us even went to bed before midnight! !Saturday we went shopping and came back with the newest ?mom?s getaway? accessory?hats! That night we hit the local bingo hall with our new hats and the hope we would blend in.Snicker all you want, but we had a blast playing bingo. However we didn?t exactly blend in. We were shushed numerous times for being too loud. It didn?t help that we?d giggle every time O-69 was called. The locals became a little annoyed when our table started winning all the games! In total our group won 6 games!!! From the back of the bingo hall we heard ?You can leave now? at one point. An elderly woman suggested they take us to the ocean! No lie!!! We feared we?d be chased out... More About: Bingo
Mommy Time !!!
2008-04-18 04:20:00 It is Thursday night!!! Which means just one thing? This time tomorrow I?ll be enjoying a glass of wine at my Moms Beach Getaway! Our yearly trip is finally here! As much as I?ll miss my family, I will admit I am looking forward to this mini holiday. The weather out here (Pacific Northwest) is a little crazy right now. After a gorgeous weekend the rain returned. However they are predicting possible snow a long the coast this weekend. That is just crazy! Especially for the month of April. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us Friday afternoon when we are all driving up to the beach house. The last thing we want to do is drive in heavy rain, or worse yet SNOW. Once we get there the weather can be as crazy as it wants to be. Except for a little shopping in the tourist shops on Saturday, we usually just hang out at the beach house. It is a weekend of wearing comfortable clothes, and no make-up. We?ve been known to play a few board games, but usually we just sit around wit... More About: Time , Mommy
Sports Site
2008-04-16 23:55:00 Is your husband a big sports nut? Mine is. I knew this going into our marriage so I shouldn?t complain. As I went in with my eyes wide open and for better or for worse right? Ha, ha. I?m actually okay with it. After all there are much worse hobbies for a husband to have.If my husband isn?t watching sports on television, he is reading about it on the Internet. He can offer you a great wealth of information when it comes to sport teams and their statistics. He tends to surprise and impress many of our friends with this wisdom. He has been teasingly called ?Cliff? from the TV show ?Cheers? on several occasions. However, his teasers know that unlike the character Cliff, he actually knows what he is talking about. One site provides Ohio State player and recruit interviews. My husband lived in Ohio until he was 15 and he still has family there. So I guess he feels a loyality. The site provides NFL information as well as basketball and footballs articles. He tells me he enjoys... More About: Sports , Site
The Biggest Loser
2008-04-16 23:38:00 Did anyone watch the Biggest Loser last night? I love this show and last night was the season finale. The first time in 5 years a woman won - whooo hooo! You really have to admire the contestants. I'm such a couch potato. I wish I could get motivated to work out. I know with young kids it isn't easy to join a gym and find time to actually go. Still I could do sit ups at home. Or I could take the dog and kids for a daily walks. There are things I could do. Things I should do. So why don't I?I am telling myself that I will get more exercise this summer. Right now we are basically stuck in doors with the constant rain. Once the sun comes out and STAYS out there will be bike rides, walks to the park and plenty of fresh air.The one thing I dislike about the Pacific Northwest is the constant rain in the winters. It rains 24/7 here. You might get a few hours here and there, but it is dark, damp and very wet. I'm so glad that summer is almost here. I need the sunshine. ... Credit Problems
2008-04-16 01:31:00 Financially it is a scary time for most of us. The word recession is being whispered as a possibility. If you ask me we are already there. For middle of the road families (like mine) it is an unnerving time. As a one-income family I worry. I worry a lot.I have friends and family members who have entered naively into bad credit loans. All you have to do is turn on the TV or open a newspaper and hear about people losing their homes due to poor home loans. Then there are every day people trying to keep their heads above water by taking on bad credit credit cards with inflated interest rates. Where do we turn? When will things get better? I have to believe it will, although it may take a few years.I have heard about BadCredit Offers.com. They help people with bad credit. They provide credit cards, auto loans, personal loans, and even home loans. This site offers us a second chance and an opportunity to rebuild our credit. This will in turn help people regain their footing and allow them ... More About: Problems
Hot Buns, Anyone?
2008-04-15 20:00:00 This morning I took my little girl to the hairdressers for a trim. As we were waiting for her turn she motioned to a man who was getting his hair cut.Princess: Mom, I don't want to sit where that man is sitting. Me: Why? Princess: Because men have hot bum-bums (and pats the seat of her chair). I don't like that.I had to contain my laughter as she was so serious.Princess: Do we have hot bum-bums too? This conversation reminded me of the other day when my daughter and I were in a changing room at Kohls. I was trying on a pair of jeans and as I was undressing she said (in a rather loud voice):Princess: "Mommy, I see your BIG bum-bum"Nice huh? :o) And...yes...I heard giggles coming from the surrounding changing rooms! :o)
Sunny Skies - FINALLY
2008-04-14 04:42:00 If you live where I do I bet you spent the weekend outside enjoying the warm sun and blue skies. Saturday ended up being a great day to meet more of our neighbors, as we were all out doing yard work. Across the street 2 young sisters set up a lemonade stand. It was ?the place to be? for the 8 year and under crowd. My kids excitedly paid for their $1 a cup lemonade (ice cubes were extra at a quarter each). However it was worth the inflated prices as this gave the kids an excuse to go over and meet everyone. They hung out and played with their new friends for quite a while. Later in the day a competing lemonade stand appeared just around the corner. My kids excitedly purchased their second cup there. :o)Today, the kids jumped onto their bikes and we headed to the park. It has been a great weekend. It?s amazing what a little sunshine and fresh air can do for one?s spirits. More About: Finally , Sunny
This Time Next Weekend...
2008-04-12 06:09:00 Next Friday night I will be at the beach house with my mommy friends. It is 9:00 PM right now... I will assume at this time next weekend the wine will be open, the junk food will be devoured, and the laughter will be loud.My daughter had a tough day today. A lot of tantrums and a lot of melt downs. She hasn?t napped in 2 years, yet this afternoon she fell a sleep on the sofa. ?Aaaah? she is tired, maybe she is having a growth spurt?, I thought to myself. The thing is when she woke up her mood had not improved. So all I could do tonight while I tried to sooth her into sleep was think about next weekend. After a tough mom day, I could really use some me time!!!Just saying :o)I love my kids, I really do. We all have bad days. My little girl is only 4 so we are going to have many (MANY) more days like today, and that is okay. Still, with that said, I will be enjoying a glass of wine this time next weekend! Everyone knows how to make Enchiladas
2008-04-10 05:56:00 A few years ago at a weekly Mommy & Me gathering a fellow mother shared a story with me.?So?and?so doesn?t know how to make enchiladas. Isn?t that funny? Like, who doesn?t know how to make them? They are so easy?. I played along and appeared shocked and agreed with her.Yeah? I had never made them before, but I wasn?t about to admit it. :o)Over time I realized enchiladas are commonplace in Washington State and California. Unlike the arctic prairies where I grew up. I think it is fair to say 99.5% of my family and friends back home have never even thought of making enchiladas. I realize that probably sounds really odd to a lot of people. :o)Anyway, for a month I have been glancing at a recipe one of my girlfriends gave me. One thing you may not know is I do not enjoy cooking. On top of that, when I try a new recipe it usually doesn't go over well with my family. So needless to say I do not get adventurous in the kitchen very often. However today I decided to go for it. I?m glad I ... More About: Make
Relationships
2008-04-09 00:35:00 Why are friendships between women often drama filled? Not always, but sometimes they can become overly childish. When my son was around one year of age I joined a playgroup with 4 other moms. We were all new mothers from all different walks of life. At first I didn?t think we had a thing in common. I was wrong though. We were all experiencing sleepless night, teething and all the emotions and fears new moms have. As the first year passed the 5 of us really bonded. I truly believed they would be friends for life. We found other common interests and started hanging out together without the kids. When our little ones were all past their second birthdays new pregnancies joined our playgroup. I was the first and by the time my daughter was born everyone else was pregnant. We were all excited. As our older ones were about to embark into preschool we were happy to have what we dubbed ?Play Group Second Addition? to look forward too. However, before that could happen drama entered... Back to School
2008-04-08 00:13:00 Spring Break is over for us. My son excitedly returned to Kindergarten this morning. If you remember he brought his teacher?s Traveling Bear with us on our Disneyland Trip. We took pictures for him to share with his class. You?d think he?d be excited about this, wouldn?t you? What typical kid wouldn?t be excited to talk about meeting Mickey Mouse and riding on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride?Well? leave it to my son to see things differently. Over Spring Break he lost his first tooth. He couldn?t wait to tell his friends and show his teacher. This is all he could think of. Okay, on his defense he seems to be one of the last kids to loose a tooth. A few of his friends have lost more then one. Yet, a lost tooth over Disneyland?? :o) More About: School , Back , Back to School
Egg-tastic!!!
2008-04-07 06:27:00 The missing Easter Egg has been found!!!Surprisingly it wasn?t found by smell. In fact it appeared to still be a very healthy egg. I will stress the word ?appeared?. You may not know me, so let me state that the egg went directly from it?s photo shoot to the garbage. It was my son who found the egg? accidentally. He came running up to me laughing. I hadn?t exactly told the family an egg was missing. I orginally thought I?d find it within 24 hours. When I didn?t? well.. I just continued to stay quiet about it.?Mom? he said, ?The Easter Bunny didn?t find one of my eggs!!!?.I played the surprised and confused role??Mom, I hid it good. The Easter Bunny couldn?t even find it!!!!?Okay, don?t rub it in kid!Listen? the egg was under a side table in our living room. I swear I looked under that table more then once. There is no reason why the Easter Bunny should of missed it.I can?t even come up with an excuse to make me look a little better. Maybe I should forget the family tradition and leav...
Moms Freedom Weekend
2008-04-05 19:08:00 Soon I?ll be heading out to my annual mom?s getaway weekend. This will be our third year. We rent a beach house a long the Oregon coastline and just relax. No diapers, no spit up, no scolding? you get the idea. We eat too much and shop too much. If you are wondering? yes, we tend to drink a little too much too! Well some of us anyway. The rest of us just laugh at the ones who will be hurting the next day. It is just a great time to get away and be with friends and have no responsibilities. We go for 2 nights and 3 days. The time goes by so fast. It?s odd because I find myself missing my kids while I am gone. Yet, as we are packing up to leave it feels like we just arrived and you wonder where the time went. The beach house is gorgeous. It has huge windows that view the ocean. At this time of year you never know what type of weather to expect. However, we have always been lucky. There has always been at least one day where we can enjoy a walk a long the water.I just fee... Rain, rain, go away!!!
2008-04-04 19:28:00 I woke up to dark skies and pouring rain this morning. I'm missing the California weather we enjoyed at Disneyland. I am so ready for summer. I would be happy for some actual spring weather though. The constant rain we experience in the Pacific Northwest can get to you. I need more blue skies. We had birds move into one of our air vents while we were away. They were making quite an impressive nest in there. It was loud with their little feet echoing in our ceilings. You could hear every wing flap, as well as their chirping. For the past two nights my husband has gone up on his ladder, cleaned it out and tried blocking the entrance so they couldn't return. I don't know if I have ever mentioned this before, but my husband is not a handyman. He lacks any natural talent and he has very little experience with any type of household repair. Still you'd think he could handle this one.The first night he said he placed some wire up in the vent and assured me the birds wouldn't... More About: Rain
Something Smells
2008-04-03 21:39:00 So when we arrived home from Disneyland we opened the front door and we were instantly hit with a strong sour smell..."The missing Easter Egg", I thought to myself. However a bad onion under the kitchen sink was the culprit. The egg remains MIA.I really don?t know what to think when it comes to that egg. Did the dog get to it? I don?t think she could/would eat it whole. I?m pretty sure there would be evidence left at the scene of the crime had she attempted. How long does it take for a boiled egg to rot? When should I expect to start smelling it? I told my girlfriend yesterday that I couldn?t believe it was still missing. For starters I WATCHED them hide the eggs. Secondly, they didn?t hide them in tough places. They were basically all out in the open and easily visable. I have hunted high and low for that egg. I moved furniture and have looked in, under and around everything.I just don't know what to think!
Missing Disneyland Already!
2008-04-02 16:31:00 We?re back and we are exhausted!!! We had a GREAT time at Disneyland . I've decided that I could live there permanently. :o)It's interesting when you have a son and a daughter. My daughter is only mildly interested in pirates and other boy stuff. Where as my son is not at ALL interested in anything princess related. So we did our best to divide our time fairly. My daughter met princesses and even attended story time one day. Sleeping Beauty shared her story and it was really very sweet. All the little girls just watched and listened in awe.My son is really into pirates. So (obviously) the Pirates of the Caribbean ride was his favorite and we went on it several time. He also LOVED Pirate Island. It was there that he found his much sought after gold. Unfortunately he wasn't able to take any of it home (as it was cemented down ? ha, ha). :o)We also loved Buzz Light Year. That ride was a huge hit and we rode it more then once (thanks to the "Fast Pass" - - something new since my husban... More About: Missing
Traveling Bear
2008-03-27 01:16:00 My son?s Kindergarten teacher sent him home today with ?Traveling Bear ?. We are leaving tomorrow for Disneyland and Traveling Bear is coming with us. Instead of bringing homework to be completed during our trip, my son will take a picture with his bear at different sites. Then on his first day back to school he?ll return the bear and share his pictures with his classmates. Let?s just hope we remember to bring this little guy! Otherwise I?ll be doing some fancy Photoshop work when we get home! :o) I can't leave home with my laptop as I'd be lost without it. So if our hotel has internet access I'll be blogging! The kids are sooooo excited as they have never been to Disneyland before. I have to admit I can't wait either!
Looking for a good egg!
2008-03-24 23:48:00 Wow! Easter sure flew by.Easter morning my kids woke up to find the Easter Bunny had come to our house. He left a basket of goodies for each of them as well as some eggs scattered in our backyard waiting to be found (unfortunately in the rain). We also incorporate a family tradition of mine...When I was growing up in the artic winters of Canada we never experienced a true Easter Egg Hunt. The freezing temperatures and SNOW made that impossible. My mom would have my sister and I hide the eggs we decorated for the Easter Bunny to find. The next morning we would find 3 little wrapped chocolate eggs next to ours. As we got older, my sister and I took great joy in finding unique places to put our eggs. My poor mom. I can only guess how many hours at night she spent hunting. Still she amazed us. One year she even found our egg in the empty juice container at the back of the fridge. :o)I have since altered my family tradition a little. After the kids are in bed I replace their eggs with pl... Happy Easter!
2008-03-22 00:34:00 I can?t believe this weekend is Easter . It just seems odd having it so early. Today I realized the Easter Bunny still needs to do some shopping. He is short on the candy that will fill the plastic eggs. Otherwise he is all set for Sunday. The kids are excited about his arrival. After all, the Easter Bunny equals chocolate and candy to them. I do not give nearly as much as my mom used to. Maybe when they get older, I will be more generous with all things chocolate. Right now I just don?t think a 6 year old and a 4 year old need to be jacked up on sugar. I just purchased them each a small bunny. Their basket is going to be filled with small toys and a few little craft projects.Tomorrow we will decorate their eggs. I?ll have to remember to take pictures. Last year was a little on the messy side. They had fun though and that is all that matters. In case I do not find time to visit my blog this weekend? have a Happy Easter!!!
The Swim Classes Continue
2008-03-21 03:51:00 My kid's swim classes are twice a week. My daughter continues to love every minute and myson has been really progressing. He has made a special bond with his teacher. This bond and trust has given my little guyn the confidence to try. He has actually been excited to go swimming and leaves his lessons with a smile on his face.Today when we arrived for their classes we found out my son?s regular teacher wasn?t there. He was going to have a substitute instead. I could see the fear in his face as they approached the water. From the waiting area (for the parents) I could see the teacher talking to him. I watched as his little head would shake ?no?.Within a few minutes My little dude was exiting the pool with the saddest face I have ever seen. I could hear the parents around me whisper and point in his direction. I quickly got up and returned to the pool to speak with him and the teacher. He didn?t want to swim. He wanted ?his? teacher. So I let my son get dressed. He sat with me and wa... More About: Classes , Swim
True Story
2008-03-19 04:54:00 Today in the car my newly 6-year-old son said to me, ?Some Mommies work?. Of course I was thinking ALL mothers work. Some also have a job outside of the home. However I said, ?Yes, that is right?. My dear? sweet? loving? son reply caused me to gasp. He said??You don?t work Mom, because you don?t know how?.WOW.I stayed calm. However I quickly corrected him. He was really surprised to learn that I have worked for MONEY before. We talked about how (when he and his little sister are both in school full-time) I will return to work. He smiled when I said I stopped working when he was born. I explained that I wanted to take care of him. With all that said, as a stay-at-home mom comments like ?I don?t know how? to work outside the home hit my heart a little. I hate the stereotype we stay-at-home moms get. (((sigh)))I do know how to work. We all do. ? Right now I am working HARD as a 24/7 mom of two.(((sigh))) More About: Story , True Story , True
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
2008-03-18 01:32:00 My son was half way out the door this morning when I remembered today was St. Patrick?s Day. We quickly re-dressed him in a green shirt. He was suddenly grinning from ear to ear. He told me how his teacher said he?d get pinched if he didn?t wear green. He then became serious and voiced his concern for his friends. He was worried that they might forget and get pinched. He was too cute.My day was less then exciting. It consisted of grocery shopping, laundry and house cleaning. Whooo hooo! My highlight was stopping at Starbucks for a Latte. Okay, I realize I might sound like I am whining, but I?m not. Really! Life as a stay-at-home mother isn?t always exciting, but I wouldn?t change a thing. Gee?what is going on with me? I?m suddenly mushy! LOL More About: Happy
Star Day
2008-03-16 02:56:00 Every student in my son?s kindergarten class has a special ?star day?. This means they get to be the leader for the week, receive special classroom privileges and then enjoy a party to celebrate what a special individual they are. Family members are invited to attend, so my husband, daughter and I joined my son?s class today to celebrate our special guy.My brave little boy stood in front of his class and answered questions his fellow students had for him (such as his favorite food, favorite color etc.). He also did a ?show and tell?, having brought in special toys and items from home to share. We also shared pictures of him as a baby, and other special people and events in his life. It was a wonderful celebration. My son started off shy, but soon he was grinning from ear to ear. It was a really special morning that I doubt he will ever forget. More About: Star
School Reunion
2008-03-14 17:47:00 This week we found out that my husband's class would be holding a 25 year reunion. Gosh, I must be old to be married to a guy who is celebrating his 25th high school reunion, right? Ha, ha.My husband is very excited. He wants to book our airline tickets this weekend. They didn't have a 20 year gathering and I didn't know him when he had his 10th. So this should be interesting... My husband grew up in a small town, and he went to school with others from surrounding towns. Still, there were only 56 people in his graduating class. I wonder how many people will attend. Most, like my husband, have moved on to bigger cities and other States. So we'll see.My husband's best friend and his wife will be going. So I will actually know someone. Thank goodness!!! The boys will be busy partying and catching up. At least I will have someone to talk to. I'd hate to spend the night standing awkwardly smiling at strangers. The joys of the spouse at events like this.Any way, the reunion isn't u... More About: School , Reunion
When Friends Divorce
2008-03-13 23:44:00 I heard some surprising news last weekend. It has just started to sink in. My husband heard through the grapevine that our old neighbors in California are getting a divorce. In fact he moved out of the house shortly after we left the neighborhood. They were the sweetest couple. I would of never guessed they would separate. I guess it just proves the saying that you never know what goes on behind closed doors. They appeared to be a perfect couple. I don?t know any of the dirty details. I couldn?t even venture a guess. I just feel bad for their daughters. Their youngest one was just born last summer. She won?t ever have a memory of her parents together. It is really sad. I know divorce happens in over 50% of all marriages. They are not the first couple I have known to break up. Yet each time it catches me off guard. I don?t know about you. Yet I have friends that constantly are at odds with their spouses. I?d be less surprised if they were to break up. Yet, they ar... More About: Divorce , Friends
Imagination
2008-03-13 23:25:00 Oh my goodness. My little girl and her imagination. It is wonderful for me as her mother to watch her ideas take flight. With that said it can get just a little tiring playing some of her games. She loves to play animals. She'll want us to pretend to be rabbits, cats or dogs. She always says the same thing. "Mommy, you be Mommy Rabbit and I'll be Baby Rabbit, okay?" After 10 minutes of this she wants to change it up. "Mommy, you be Mommy Cat and I'll be Baby Cat, okay". She never wants to stray far from the theme. Although sometimes I get to play the Daddy role instead of the Mommy, LOL.I remind myself to appreciate this time. She'll grow out of this phase soon enough. I know I might even miss this game some day. So with this in mind I'll play Mommy Rabbit up to the hilt. I will admire her long ears and soft puffy tail. Then 10 minutes later I'll be feeding my Baby Bird seeds and admiring her long wings.I wonder if I was like my daughter as little girl. I don't... More About: Imagination
Cheap Holidays
2008-03-12 23:43:00 Shhhhhhh? My kids don?t know it yet, but we are heading to Disneyland in a few weeks! Whooo hooo! This will be their very first time. My husband and I went 7 years ago. Before kids we loved every minute of it. Little did I know I wouldn?t be back until I was a mother of two kids! Life is so unpredictable, isn?t it? JI have to give my husband all the credit for booking our trip. He went online and looked up options for cheap holidays. We are on a budget. Personally, we shouldn?t be going anywhere. However we have been talking about going to Disney for over a year now. Money has been tucked away just for this purpose. Now I have the travel bug and this afternoon I went onto the Co-op Travel website. This newly re-launched website has a lot of exciting new features. With great deals and options on cruises, resorts, airfare, hotels and car rentals.I love to travel. I really do. Maybe now that the kids are getting older we will be able to venture out a little more. More About: Holidays , Cheap
A Mermaid In The Making
More articles from this author:2008-03-12 03:36:00 My daughter created this picture the other day. Since starting swimming lessons she has decided she wants to be a mermaid when she grows up. She is very serious about it. So much so her older brother is concerned about her safety. He doesn't like the idea that she'd be in the sea all by herself. He wants me to be become a mermaid too. So I can live in the sea with his sister and take care of her. My son on the other hand has no interest in living in the sea. Although he is doing better with his lessons now. He has seriously come a long way in a short period of time. Each time he practices floating or kicking he will turn to make sure I am watching. The huge grin on his face says it all. I wish I had taken my camera today. :o)So I'm really happy with how their swimming lessons are progressing. I stress out about everything. I can't help it. So I'm so happy that I can just sit back and relax while my kids swim now. Seeing that they are enjoying themselves has taken a h... 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 |
