Our Butterfly Puppet
2008-01-18 08:15:00
I guess I have a small creative gene locked inside me somewhere. Today my daughter and I made a butterfly puppet. I usually leave the creative stuff to my gifted husband. So tackling this project was a big step for me. I guess I just need to remember that at this age, kids tend to be pretty easy to please. :o)So my sweet daughter and I threw caution into the wind and just winged our butterfly creation. We used an old sock of mine and some left over felt. Two goggle-ly eyes and one pipe cleaner later and we were set.Warning: MOMMY BRAG A HEAD: I?m proud to say it was my 3 year olds idea to add the little tongue to her butterfly?s mouth. :o)

Am I Running a B & B for Wild Life?
2008-01-16 01:22:00
Not too long ago we captured two mice in our house (ick!) It wasn?t the type of house warming gift I was looking for. We also took a picture of a possum hanging out on our fence. Now we seem to be ?the place to be? for ladybugs looking for a warm place to hang out. When we first moved into our house (mid-November) we found a lot of ladybugs rooming around. Most of them were found in our master bedroom. They liked the windows, but I'd find them crawling on my nightstand, on the carpet and one night on my face (yeah, that was lovely...).Around Christmas time they disappeared. We soon forgot about them. That is until Sunday afternoon. It was a beautiful and sunny day here (a rarity). I was folding laundry in my room when I looked at our window. I quickly counted 5+ crawling around. When we pulled up the blinds we found many, many more!Okay, they are cute and all, but still...I've always assumed they hibernated in the ground during the winter months. What are they doing in my house? Doe...

My Son's Birthday Party
2008-01-14 00:27:00
Well, I realize I?ve been pretty MIA this past week. I?ve been busy planning (or was that stressing out over) my son?s Birthday party. I couldn't help stressing over it. I do every year. It is one of my (many) character flaws. I worry and fret over everything.Friday night I cleaned all that I could clean. I hung the streamers and stuffed the goodie bags. I wanted to be as prepared as possible. Still I was up at 7:00 AM and kept myself busy until the party started doing last minute stuff. You should have seen my son. To say he was EXCITED would of put it mildly. We invited 8 children and all but 1 showed. I was a little concerned as not all the kids new each other. A couple were from his old toddler play group, a few from his new school and then a new neighbor from across the street. It is amazing how kids are at this age (5-6). They just all became instant friends and had fun playing together. My son had a pirate themed party. I did my best to make it fun. Each child was given an eye...

Astro Boy!!
2008-01-09 05:02:00
On Christmas morning my son received a solar system mobile from Santa. This is probably his favorite gift. He was literally jumping up and down with excitement when he opened it.Now I just need to replace his headboard and bedding and his Astro naut themed bedroom will be done. :o)I don't know about you, but I didn't have a theme room growing up. Yet, here I am decorating my son's room with a theme. A theme he asked for (I'm not forcing anything on him). In my defense we are keeping it simple. I'll stick some glow in the dark stars on his ceiling. Purchase a basic dark blue comforter for his bed and then call it done!He is excited and thrilled beyond belief. So...I guess that is why I am doing a theme bedroom. To make my little man smile.
Home Depot Craft Kids
2008-01-07 03:43:00
The first Saturday of the month my husband and kids head down to our local Home Depot for their kids craft day. If you have never heard of it (and you have kids) you should check it out. Each store varies a little on date and times. However they all provide one day a month where they welcome kids into a craft corner. This free activity provides a Home Depot worker to help answer questions and assist (if needed) you in putting together your project. Your child will receive a free Home Depot apron too. My kids wear theirs with a lot of pride. After each successful craft is made they receive a pin to place on their apron. The pins mean almost as much to the kids as the project they made.So this Saturday I enjoyed some free mommy time as the rest of my family headed to Home Depot. The kids both came home beaming with pride over their creations. This month they made castle storage boxes. Although, if you were to ask my son he'd make it very clear that his castle is very different from h...

How Do You Drink It?
2008-01-04 20:30:00
Okay, so on New Years Eve (and being the big party girl that I am) I opened a soft drink and placed a straw in the can. I never heard the end of it.Not because I was drinking a Coke and not alcohol...but because of the way I placed my straw in the can.Yes! I am serious!Apparently my friends have never seen a straw is slipped into the tab (that is bent forward) and kept nicely in place. I've been doing it for years... and I know I am not the only one who does this. Any way, I was teased unmercifully! So if I have any readers out there, please support me in letting my friends know this is a common and a often used method of soda drinking. :o)

It's a New Year!
2008-01-02 04:24:00
For the new years eve we hosted a small get together. The kids enjoyed a gourmet meal of chicken nuggets and fries. Where as the rest of us ordered in Chinese! I can never fully explain how much I LOVE Chinese food. Seriously! There is nothing better?well chocolate (of any kind) is a very close second. :o)Any way, I digress? All the kids played really well together. Eventually they all nodded off too (around 10 PM). With all the kids and only so many bedrooms in our house, it really went well. I didn?t think within 30 minutes every child would be in dreamland. It worked out nicely and allowed the grown ups a chance to relax and socialize. We played a favorite childhood game of mine called Romoli. It was a lot of fun playing for pennies, although a few people had difficulties remembering the name of the game! It was often referred to as Rigatoni, Shh-mole-li, and even Ja-mon-gee. Maybe you had to be there to appreciate the humor. It was a fun night and for the first time in a long time...

And So Ends My Painting Career..
2007-12-31 06:29:00
2 days ago we stopped by the paint store. It was time to finally paint my son's room. As you can see from this picture his room was a orangey-yellow color. He was happy "decorating" his walls with his art work, which is why we didn't rush to paint it.However I knew I couldn't put it off any longer. This would be room #6 within the past month that I had painted. To say I am sick of painting would be an understatement. However my son's excitement helped motivate me. This by the way officially ends my painting career. :o)PS: Two mice in our garage have been caught...nothing inside the house has been spotted since. My fingers are crossed that our "friend (s)" are all gone now...

I'd Like To Return This Christmas Gift...
2007-12-29 01:50:00
Oh...how I wish it wasn't true. However, it appears we have an uninvited guest. Proof of our visitor was discovered just before the holidays when I was painting. We pulled out the fridge and stove and found what appeared to be mouse droppings.Eeeeeeewwwwwwww!Needless to say traps have been purchased and dispersed. A mouse in our garage was caught today. However, our house guest helped himself to what was left of our gingerbread house last night. He pulled a piece out from the Saran Wrap and nibbled at the icing.Eeeeeeewwwwwwww!I know it isn't that uncommon to have the little guys show up when it gets cold out. However, this knowledge does not help me feel any less creeped out. Each time I open a kitchen cupboard I fear a mouse will jump out at me.

Where Did It Go?
2007-12-27 01:32:00
Is that it? Are the holidays over ALREADY!?!I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and that Santa was good to you!My kids were in bed by 7:00 PM Christmas Eve! Why? Well, they were insanely excited about Santa coming and they really wanted to get to sleep. All I heard most of the afternoon was, "Is it time for bed yet mom?" I thought it would be a VERY early Christmas morning! However, ours started off later than I anticipateded as the kids slept until 7:20 AM!! :o)Any way, the wrapping paper was flying Christmas morning! The kid's excitement was contagious. My husband and I then spent the day putting together toys and playing board games. It was a lot of fun. Although, the four of us did get overly competitive playing "The Hungry Hippo!" LOL :o)Now the holidays are over for another year. It sure flies by doesn't it?
Merry Christmas
2007-12-23 17:11:00
Saturday I found myself fighting the crowds to finish up my Christmas shopping. It seems like every time I think I'm completely done my shopping, I remember something I've forgotten. I haven't been very organized this year. How ever I think I am really, really done now... :o)The kids are full of excitement and anticipation for Santa. I'm hearing, "Is Santa coming tomorrow?" on an hourly basis. Ha, ha. They are also pointing to every commerical they see on TV and claiming they REALLY want it for Christmas. The Clapper is suddenly a very popular "I want" toy. Too cute. Still...they won't be getting it. :o)Saturday evening we went for a drive to look at all the Christmas lights. My Hubby never got around to putting ours up this year. So I thought I?d share a couple homes that we saw tonight. I hope you have a VERY Merry Christmas !Mom 2 Two

I think I am finally sick of painting. After painting my daughter's room, the living room, dining room, kitchen and family room. I think I have finally hit the wall. It's been a crazy couple of weeks of unpacking and painting. I think my family and friends feel I am crazy for taking on all this painting. Ha, haMy poor son has been patiently waiting to have his room done. However, I don't even want to look at a paint brush right now. I think he will have to wait until after the holidays. With the anticipation of Santa's arrival, I don't think he'll mind.Speaking of Santa...I need to start preparing for his arrival! :o)

A Possum Invasion
2007-12-09 06:07:00
Okay... I had no idea wild possums roamed my city at night. Our dog noticed this little guy around 10:00 PM the other night. It was pitch black out, but you know I always have my camera handy. Ha, haI thought he was much cuter in person. Here he looks like a big old rat. I think my husband thought it was some mutated alien rat. Hee, hee. The poor guy was almost hyperventilating. Don't tell him I said that....

Saturday's House Warming Party
2007-12-05 00:48:00
Saturday night my husband and I hosted a little get together. We've been in the city for 2 weeks now, but I had only seen and talked to a few people. So it was wonderful to see everyone again. :o)I had my camera out with the intention of using it. Unfortunately I completely forgot to take pictures. This is unfortunate as it isn't often when the whole gang is together now a days. My mom friends are like me with at least one in elementary school. Since we live all over the city, our kids go to different schools. It isn't like when the kids were in diapers and we could meet during the week for play dates. So I treasured seeing everyone again and re-newing my friendshipsSaturday also happened to be my hubby's birthday. He isn't a big fan of chocolate cake, so for the past few years I have made him rice crispy cake (at his request). Our son was pretty darn disappointed. However the kids were thrilled to help their Dad blow out the candles. Yes, candles are put on rice crisp...

Okay... we are still trying to make our new house feel like home. It is taking longer then I ever thought it would. We've been here for 2 weeks now. We are not even fully unpacked yet! It feels deflating at times. I've put in so much work and yet I feel like I don't have a whole lot to show for it. I keep saying it takes time. I know. I'm a broken record. So I'm going to be positive tonight. I've painted the living room/dining room area this past week. It's made a huge difference. It's amazing what a fresh coat of paint can do. Well... that and the removal of boxes and packing paper - ha, ha.Any way, I thought I'd share a before and after picture. It is a good reminder that I am accomplishing things...no matter how slowly. :o) BeforeAfter

Turkey Day
2007-11-28 19:09:00
I hope everyone enjoyed Thanksgiving. I'm a little late in sending out my holiday greeting. It's just been crazy with the move and everythingWe spend Thanksgiving with friends of ours. It was quiet and nice. Not to mention delicious! I ate way too much! The next morning my girlfriend picked me up at 3:45 AM to hit the Black Friday sales. We went to Kohl's first. Apparently I went white when the sales lady gave me the total. :o). I did however purchase the bulk of my Christmas presents. After we went to Fred Myers and enjoyed their free hot chocolate and donut holes. I managed to spend a little more money there too. We ended our shopping spree at Micheal's Craft Store. It was fun. It was also great to get out of the house for a little bit. I can't believe I'm still trying to put it together. I know it takes time...

It Takes Time...
2007-11-25 04:12:00
Okay...I will admit this picture is a little deceiving. My house is still askew with boxes. Why is it taking so long to unpack and get organized? We moved in a week today and it sure doesn't look like it. I've been working and trying. The kids slow me down of course. Still...will we ever feel at home here?I know, it just takes time. Bit by bit. It just seems overwhelming sometimes. My kids miss their old house and their friends back there. I feel bad. Again it will take time, I know. Oh the guilt that comes with being a mother!

We've Moved
2007-11-20 05:11:00
It's been a crazy week of packing up, traveling and now...unpacking!!! It's nice to be back though. Seeing my old friends has been wonderful. Check out the art work on this toilet roll. Only a cool friend (with artistic ability and a key to my house) would go to each bathroom and doodle! Tee, hee This has been my world the last 3 days. Boxes, boxes and more boxes. I am surrounded by a sea boxes. It has felt a little overwhelming at times. However with each passing day the boxes have dwindled and our new house is feeling more and more like our home.
2 Days Before the Big Move
2007-11-14 02:01:00
With only two days left in California I am feeling the stress that moving brings. Thankfully my husband flies in tonight - yeah! Our packers will be arriving Wednesday morning. They are expected bright and early at 7:30 AM. Yikes! It is going to be a crazy stress filled day! I'm excited...but stressed! It will wonderful when it is all over. Even if all the unpacking and settling a head of me, I'll feel better once we walk into our new home. It's been a long process. I'm soooo ready for it to be over!

DayQuil to the Rescue
2007-11-11 23:27:00
This afternoon my daughter eyed a bottle of my nail polish. After I had applied it to her toes she said with excitement, "Mommy, my toes are happy now!!" :o)So I've been suffering from my kid's cold. I think I have it worse then they did. I had to go pick up a prescription at the pharmacy today. Shortly before leaving I took DayQuil. For what ever reason it worked more like I'd expect it's partner "NyQuil" to. Standing in line I watched in awe as the building swayed back and forth. This should of concerned me, however I was feeling very zen and carefree. Thankfully I didn't have far to drive home. I really felt like I had enjoyed a couple glasses of wine. I think once the kids are in bed tonight I'll help myself to another dose - ha, ha :o)Why do I share these things???5 more days until our big move! I hope the kids and I are 100% by then.

9 More Days...
2007-11-08 05:15:00
It is hard to believe, but in a mere 9 days we are moving. I hope we will all be healthy by then. My daughter is doing better, but her brother isn't. To top things off, I've caught their cold. Of course, right?Tomorrow is my daughter's last day at her preschool. She could of gone for a couple of days next week. I really was undecided on what would be best. In the end I decided to keep her home. She has been nervous and very uncertain about moving. I know she doesn't fully understand. So in the mist of all the craziness I didn't want to ship her off to school. We'll stick together and hopefully I'll be successful in reassuring her that things will be okay. Change is hard.Tomorrow will be hard since my son had gone to this school as well. So there will be teachers wanting to say good-bye to him as well. They've all been so wonderful. I really love this school and all the teachers so it tears at my heart to leave it.This move is probably harder on me I realize...

5:00 PM: Little Girl (who was very sick) asked to go to bed.7:00 PM:She awoke (as one feverish, runny nose mess) and joined little boy downstairs who had taken a turn for the worse as well.7:30 PM:Convinced they both needed some sleep... I bribed them with my bed (and the promise I'd join them shortly).9:00 PM: Little Girl woke up again. Her fever was gone and besides a runny nose, she was full of spunk. She spent 45 minutes watching Winnie the Pooh and coloring pictures at the kitchen table.10:00 PM: I convinced her she would sleep better in her room.10:30 PM: Husband arrives home and crashes in the spare bedroom. I join Little Dude in my room.1:00 AM and 3:00 AM: Little Girl wakes up both times crying. Holds my hand tightly until she calms back into deep sleep. Little Dude meanwhile was up repeatedly. The poor guy couldn't breath. Even when he was sleeping I was awake as he was snoring up a storm.7:00 AM: Little Dude is awake for the day and so am I.Daddy Update: He apparently s...

The Day After...

The day after Halloween...It's been full of sugar crashes...the kids...okay and mom too. I've been eating way too much sugar!Halloween was a lot of fun though. It was hard to keep the kids reigned in before it was time to trick or treat. They were soooooo anxious to get going. It was pretty amazing to see what a difference a year makes. My little man was not shy at all. He was great with saying "Trick or Treat" and he remembered to say "Thank You" each time. How ever, he was also comfortable in saying such phrases as, "Can I have one more?" or "I like that one too". (((sigh)))My little girl started off very shy. She would stand back and have to be nudge forward to get candy. This didn't last long though. Soon she wanted to be the one to ring the door bell and was right in there getting her share of treats. The kids made out very well. We were out for close to an hour before little girl asked to go home. Her older brother was satisfied with the amount of loot he had so he didn't co...

This is our family pumpkin. My son wanted a scary pumpkin. My daughter asked for a happy one. So I tried to make them both happy. Okay... I know you can't have a happy and scary pumpkin. Unless of course your children are 5 and 3 years old. If mom says it is...well it must be! Right??? Ha, ha!

Artist In The Making
2007-10-26 19:15:00
I promise this blog won't be all about my children's art work. How ever, with that said...above is another work of art (well...to me any way). I had to share this one as it the first "real" picture my daughter drew. She used to be all about circles and swirls. This was her first attempt at drawing people. It just happens to be of me and her. - Gush - Gush - Gush -

Painting Pumpkins
2007-10-24 06:45:00
I thought I?d share my son?s artistic pumpkin painting skills. Every year we?ve let the kids each pick a small pumpkin to paint. Usually they come out with a swirled mixture of paint colors.I guess my son is getting older and is looking at the possibilities a pumpkin can hold. Leave it to him to paint a mural. I know I am his mother, but I have to say I am pretty impressed!

Today we went to the pumpkin patch. It wasn't nearly as warm compared to last year. Unfortunately it was twice as busy. The kids were not bothered by the huge crowds and enjoyed all the activities, which included a train ride and petting zoo. I think it is safe to say everyone will sleep well tonight!

So Tired
2007-10-19 05:08:00
I'm so tired it is almost comical. I have been having difficulties falling asleep. So I am a wake until after midnight. Then, I only sleep maybe two or three straight hours before I wake up again. It is frustrating. I usually don't have this problem. So what is up?This morning I almost placed my face cream on my tooth brush. No lie. In my defense their bottles are very similar. Then today at lunch, I was making the kids Kraft Dinner. As I was scooping the macaroni into bowls I thought it was odd how "un-cheesy" it appeared. I cracked it up to the company cutting back on the powdered cheese....yeah, that was until I noticed the unopened cheese packet still sitting on the counter.I seriously need some sleep!

Rain and Flip Flops

It?s raining today.I subconsciously had decided a while back that I would not put on a pair of socks until I landed in the Pacific Northwest. I?m presently living in California after all. This time last year we were enjoying gorgeous sandal wearing weather. However the past few weeks have been cool and often wet. Every other Kindergarten mom has been standing at our pick up spot (outside) in tennis shoes. Not me. Even today. It?s cold and blowing rain? and I am the fool wearing my Old Navy flip-flops. I also found out something interesting? apparently rubber sandals have little to no grip. I came close to wiping out more then once. LOL.
