Ouch!
2008-06-07 05:43:00 Okay, I received this in an email. So I seriously do not know if this is true or not. Now, personally I can't help but think this is a hoax. However, with fashion you just never know!Think your shoes are uncomfortable? The latest rage in Japan .... More About: Ouch
Are you a mean mom?
2008-06-05 21:27:00 Someday when my children are old enough toUnderstand the logic that motivates a parent,I will tell them, as my Mean Mom told me: I loved you enough to ask where you were going,With whom, and what time you would be home.I loved you enough to be silent and let youDiscover that your new best friend was a creep.I loved you enough to stand over you forTwo hours while you cleaned your room,A job that should have taken 15 minutes. I loved you enough to let you see anger,Disappointment, and tears in my eyes. ChildrenMust learn that their parents aren't perfect. I loved you enough to let you assume theResponsibility for your actions even when thePenalties were so harsh they almost broke my heart. But most of all, I loved you enough to sayNO when I knew you would hate me for it.Those were the most difficult battles of all.I'm glad I won them, because in the end you won, too.And someday when your children are old enough toUnderstand the logic that motivates parents, you will tell them. A Morning at the Park
2008-06-05 04:10:00 There was no Kindergarten this morning, so my son joined us at playgroup. We ventured to the park and managed to spend some time there before it began to rain. The moms discussed how it feels more like November then June. We've had a very wet Spring. With the upcoming forecast it doesn't appear we'll see the sun anytime soon either. :o(I know all I seem to do is complain about about the weather. I have to admit it is really getting to me. I need some sunshine, the gray skies are really getting to me... More About: Morning , Park
Little Rewards
2008-06-03 02:13:00 On Sunday I took the kids shopping. When we were organizing items for the garage sale we made a deal with them. If they would part with the toys they?d grown out of, we?d buy each of them a new one. I?m really proud of the kids, as they parted with a lot of toys. So with some of the money we made yesterday we headed to the toy department. My daughter knew exactly what she wanted to get. She is all about the Little Pet Shop toys right now. She had been longing for the large Pet Shop house. My son just wanted a cool Transformer toy. He found one that turns into an airplane, which he just loves (although it didn?t stop him from playing Little Pet Shop with his sister for a good two hours this afternoon. :o)I got a little reward this afternoon too. One of my girlfriends called and invited me to an afternoon matinee of Sex in the City with her sister-in-law and some other friends. All I will say is?Go See The Movie!!! If you can, go with a group of your closest girlfriends. :o) My only... More About: Rewards
Garage Sale Bliss
2008-06-01 06:19:00 Our Neighborhood held it?s annual garage sale this weekend and we participated in it.The first item we sold? A can of half used paint left by the previous home owners (crazy, right?)Speaking of the (ceiling fan / shrub / drape stealing thieves) previous homeowners? ...they drove up and parked in front of the house today. She is a Realtor and is selling our neighbor?s house (directly across the street). They held an open house this afternoon. The husband got out of the car and asked: ?Do you have any fans for sale??My dear husband replied, ?Not today?.Unbelievable! (insert eye roll).I wonder if they noticed the guy that had just purchased their old dining room light fixture? If you don't know the story, the previous owners removed several items from the house when they moved. We threatened to take them to court and they returned some items (including the ceiling fans that are now back up). :o)By 5:00 PM the sale was over and we packed up what little we had left. We priced to sell and ... More About: Garage , Sale
A trip to the zoo
2008-05-31 08:31:00 Today my son?s Kindergarten class went to the zoo. He woke up early this morning out of pure excitement. One of the things we did after breakfast was make his sack lunch. This is the first time he has ever taken a lunch to school. It was a big moment (well, for his mom any way). His homework for the week was to decorate his lunch bag. He created a classic picture of himself (with two of his friends) in outer space fighting green aliens. :o) You have to love the imagination of a 6 year old. :o)A note went home earlier this week stating the kids could bring a camera to the zoo as long as it could be worn around the neck. We only have one camera and I didn?t feel comfortable lending it to my son for the day. So we picked up a disposable one and I used green ribbon and tape so he could wear it around his neck. Any way, I worried about him all day. I wish I could have been one of the parent volunteers, but I knew he was in good hands. When I went to pick him up at the school he had a ... More About: Trip
Shopping Alternatives
2008-05-30 05:57:00 Let?s talk about tactical pants, shall we?Who couldn?t use a new pair of pants? If you are a police officer by profession, tactical pants might just be what you are looking for.A Police Gear, Inc was created by a group of Police Officers from the Los Angeles area. Their website shares that over the years the business has grown and changed. They now sell to military personnel, security professionals as well as police officers and the general public.I read that although their website name might make visitors think they only sells to police officers, they clearly sell to any one and everyone. So if you are looking for a gift for a friend or family member (or even yourself) this could be a unique and fun idea. If you are a kindergarten teacher, you may not have a use for Under Armor, but perhaps a pair of sturdy boots might be nice! More About: Shopping , Alternatives
A Firken Day
2008-05-30 00:41:00 Yesterday was a little firken stressful. It was a day when a Mother's firken patience was tested every firken 15 minutes. I know we've all had firken days like that.... yet, I was feeling a little firken sorry for myself by late afternoon! :o)Thankfully, my day ended with a firken great dinner and conversation with a firken great friend. Are you thinking, ?Enough with the firken, talk?, right ??? :o)I went out with a great friend last night and enjoyed a great dinner at a new restaurant called the Firken & Frog Restaurant. The food was delicious and I enjoyed a tasty cocktail called the Milky Way (which I highly recommend). They play up their name in the restaurant as well. When you leave you?ll notice a sign that says:?Have A Firken Good Day?And check out this Tiny Firkin Menu! Cute, right?Any way after the day I had, it was wonderful to just get out and just relax and enjoy a nice conversation.PS: Today is overcast (of course) with rain expected (of course).
It's getting to me
2008-05-28 17:13:00 I realize all I have been doing lately (for the most part) is complaining about the weather. Maybe I was spoiled last year living in "sunny" California. All I know it is almost June and we are still in the mist of rain clouds and dull and very, very dreary days.I need some sunshine to brighten my mood. I'm getting a little on the irritable side. That isn't fun for me or for the people around me.We did enjoy a few hours of sunshine yesterday, but my pessimistic mood never disappeared. I knew the sunshine wouldn't last. I was right. This is one time where I wouldn't of minded being wrong! :o)My little girl has been have meltdowns at a drop of hat lately. I'm going to blame the weather on that too. Surely, a 4 year old girl doesn't have melt downs for no reason right? It has to be the weather (says a sarcastic mom2two).Okay, rant is over. Thanks for reading. I'm impressed you made it to the end as it can't be all that entertaining. If anything I bet I'm a little annoying. (((s...
Hopscotch and Rain Clouds
2008-05-27 21:45:00 Monday afternoon we enjoyed a few hours of rain-free weather. We took advantage of the weather and spent a little time in the backyard. Yes? it was wet, but at least we were outdoors. Everything smelt nice and fresh too. I love the smell of the air after rain. Any way, we stayed on the patio. The kids were more then happy to play with chalk, blow bubbles and play in the water/sand table.I wanted to share this picture of my son. He created hopscotch blocks with chalk. He was cracking my husband and I up. I don?t know if this photo does my son justice. He was hopping with his one leg WAY up and WAY out. It was quite the silly sight. :o) My sweet little guy also created this portrait of himself with his sister and our dog. I love that they are holding hands in the picture.Today is overcast with rain in the forecast. At this point that is no surprise. Did you catch my sarcasm there? This weather is getting to me. And the humidity! Gee, the air feels so thick today. I may have to looking... More About: Rain , Clouds
Rain, Rain, Go Away!
2008-05-27 02:00:00 Well, if you live in the Pacific Northwest, you know what lousy weather we had over the long weekend. In fact that incredible orange sky that I captured with my camera on Saturday was a sign that a large thunderstorm was coming. We don?t often get flashes of lightening that light up a room or huge bangs of thunder that shake your house. So it was quite entertaining. The kids slept through it all. Our poor dog didn?t fair so well. She desperately wanted a place to hide where she couldn?t hear the thunder outside. Out of pure fear and confusion she tried several times to convince us that she would do better outside?in the rain?where the thunder is at it?s loudest. My husband finally opened the back door for her. One little sniff of fresh air later had our beloved pet backing up away from the door. Smart move on her part! The weather wasn?t any better on Sunday or today. It isn?t fair to be stuck in-doors for days on end. My poor kids are bouncing off the walls with pent up ... More About: Rain
Orange you glad I didn't say banana???
2008-05-25 06:55:00 Looking at the sky tonight (with the rain pouring down) I couldn't help but think of the kid's favorite "knock-knock" joke. After this picture was taken the sky turned black and we were treated to quite the storm. One crack of thunder literally had my husband and I jumping in fright. Some how the kids slept through it. AmazingI sure hope tomorrow's weather includes blue skies... More About: Banana , Orange , Glad
Good Advice
2008-05-23 03:49:00 You might have seen this before as it was sent around (via email) a little while ago. Still, it makes me smile. Do you think it was a real sign? Or photo-shopped?I like thinking that the sign was put there intentionally. Like a group of old railroad workers sat around and talked about how they hate it when cars drive into their trains... like a moth to light. As if drivers can't help but aim for the train and gun it. So they decided to put up a sign and were overly polite about it. After all, they didn't want to insult any one! More About: Advice , Good
Popcorn and Movies
2008-05-22 06:53:00 Lately my husband and I have been renting movies. I?m not sure why, but we had gotten completely out of the habit when we were in California. I think within the year we were there, we maybe rented a movie once. Lately we have been picking up a movie every second weekend or so. There are a lot of movies out there that we haven?t seen (obviously) so we have a lot to choose from, which is nice.So imagine my delight when I stumbled across some Blockbuster coupons. Score! After a gorgeous weekend last week (with temperatures in the 90?s) we are back to typical Pacific Northwest rain. (((sigh))). Seriously, Spring is usually here by now. More proof that global warming is real. It looks like we?ll be enjoying another movie weekend. Crazy! I want sunshine!!! Is it too much to ask for?? More About: Movies , Popcorn
Vinyl Sign and my Hubby
2008-05-20 20:13:00 Yesterday I put up my much anticipated vinyl sign in the kitchen. I swear it took over two weeks to get. I love Ebay, but sometimes the sellers are not the quickest when it comes to mailing their items out.My husband came home before dinner and I anxiously waited for him to notice. Yet, I know my husband. I knew there would was a huge possibility that he?d go weeks before realizing it was there. When we sat down for dinner I kept my eyes on him a little more. He sits directly infront of the sliding glass doors. He was facing the sign. Surely he would notice it, right? We were almost done dinner when my little girl said, ?Daddy, look?? She pointed up and he immediately looked at our kitchen light that hangs over the table. ?No silly? she said, ?over there? pointing to the wall. Now? I didn?t tell the kids NOT to tell their father. I simiply assumed they wouldn?t think too. So she brought his attention to it. I have no idea what he thinks of my beloved sign. He was surprise... More About: Vinyl , Sign
Vinyl Phrases
2008-05-20 00:38:00 Check it out!!! I?m so excited. I have wanted to place a vinyl phrase above my sliding doors for some time now. There are so many great sayings out there it was hard to decide. I ordered this one on Ebay. I know it is a common phrase, but I needed something with large letters since I was placing it up high. It had to be easy to read. Besides I love the meaning behind the words. If you are thinking of doing something similar just know it is EASY to apply! I am thrilled with how it turned out.The question now is how long will it take my husband to notice it? More About: Vinyl , Phrases
Saturday Night Out
2008-05-19 04:40:00 Disclaimer: This story may or may not be enhanced for your reading enjoyment.Saturday night was my second bunco get-together. However, we decided to forgo rolling dice and instead met at a nice restaurant for Happy Hour and appetizers. Our evening started off innocent enough. A serious discussion regarding going back to work (after several years of being stay-at-home moms) some how worked itself into a Reality TV series. My friend Erin (who volunteered to be the camera operator) took notes on a napkin as we came up with I believe 6 or 7 episode ideas. Without spoiling the show for you, I?ll simply say it would revolve around a Wild Berry Cooler my friend Shawna and myself. Yeah. We?ll just leave it at that. We also compiled a list of questions for Amy who volunteered to do some market research for us. (This would be another episode in itself). With the action figures and product endorsements we feel confident that early retirement is in our futures.Did I mention the Cosmos and Marg... More About: Night
Grey's
2008-05-16 19:41:00 The show may not be as good as it was in it's first season, yet I find myself wiping away tears each and every week. The day after I always visit Grey Matter. This is a blog written by the writers of Grey's. It is often interesting to read their thoughts on each episode.Last night's episode (as always) left me in tears. Here is the first paragraph written by one of the writers regarding the show:Why aren?t you crazy? It?s a question that?s posed in the voice-over at the end of the episode, but at that point you?re (hopefully) so wrecked over the fact that Andre showed up and this poor woman?s in a coma and she?s never going to wake up and he was the love of her life and she was someone who thought she?d never have love, and then it happened and they were happy and on a boat, but she had a brain tumor, which is a good way to ruin a cruise for anyone, but he stayed with her, stayed, because he loved her, and he came home from his snazzy business trip to Singapore early to be with h...
Back in the Pool!
2008-05-14 22:02:00 The kids started their second set of swimming lessons yesterday afternoon. My son and I were both excited to see his old instructor there. Unfortunately our excitement faded when we realized he would not be his teacher this time. I was really concerned as my poor son looked petrified as he followed his new class into the pool. However both he and his sister participated fully in their classes and even put their faces in the water. This is a huge (HUGE) step for my son. As we were exiting the pool area his teacher walked by and said, ?Great job!? my son just beamed! Yeah!Oh! Just for the record my daughter still plans on becoming a mermaid when she grows up! Tee, hee!!! :o) More About: Back , Pool
Just for me
2008-05-13 02:24:00 In mid-November we moved into our new house. After some small renovations and a lot of paint we have basically settled in. I?ve blogged in the past about how I?m in the decorating phase of things. My favorite phase when it comes to moving! However we have yet to set up our main computer. I have designated the blame soley onto my husband. I have no idea where the wires, patch panels, and such all go. I am way to overwhelmed by it all to even attempt to figure it out.Thankfully I have my laptop. It was a Christmas present two years ago. I love it and I?m actually a little territorial about it. I really dislike anyone touching it; let a lone using it. I?m not sure why. It isn?t like I have some secrets hidden on my computer that I?m afraid will be seen. I know people like my husband will use my laptop with care as well. It perhaps is the one thing that is ?mine?. In a marriage and with children everything becomes ?ours?. Believe me I feel it should be this way. However, ...
Cleaning Day
2008-05-12 18:52:00 Today I have the fun task of putting the house back together after the weekend. I wish I enjoyed cleaning more then I do. It just isn?t my thing. Yet, I realize it is important and needed so I do it. I just happen to mutter under my breath a little!A friend of mine (who has middle school aged children) started a ?Lost and Found? Box. If they fail to pick up their toys and belongings she places them into her box. The kids then have to pay to have their items returned to them. They have no choice either. The kids can?t say, ?I don?t like that toy any more so you can keep it?. They are docked directly from their allowance. If they have no money at the time their item is placed in the box, it stays there until allowance day. I think my kids are a little too young for this right now. I?m wondering if I can implemented this box system with my husband right now though. Ha, ha This afternoon I am going to have the task of researching children's life insurance. Yeah, I don?t e... My Wife Doesn't "Work"
2008-05-12 01:50:00 In honor of Mother's Day... :o)My Wife Doesn't "Work "By Gary LautensIs there anything more embarrassing today than being married to a woman who doesn't "work?"Take Jackie. She weaves, spins wool, attends classes twice a week at art college and is currently putting together a seven- foot tapestry she designed for the living room. She also whips up a hundred meals a week, irons a dozen shirts, waxes and washes the floors, walks the dog and throws a dinner party once a week. But she doesn't "work."She feels a minimum of two foreheads a week (to see if they're warm), listens to enough homework to get a degree from Oxford, runs the family budget, finds things in the basement no other living human being can find, reminds Richard to comb his hair every morning, cheers up Jane when she gets a zit on her face and refinishes furniture. She does the shopping, locates the bargains, washes gym stuff, keeps track of everybody's underwear, answers family mail, makes certain nobody leaves a rin...
What is my Future?
2008-05-10 08:21:00 One of the things that keeps me up at night (and it honestly does) is the nagging thought of what I am going to do with the rest of my life. In two years my daughter will be in school, then what? What do I want to do? What should I do? What do I need to do?The first problem is that besides being a mother, I have yet to find a true passion. I have a friend who works part-time for a newspaper as a reporter. She interviews people and writes stories on the community. This is done part-time and it is her dream job. Best of all she does this all from her house. She is still the quote and unquote stay at home mom.So I am ashamed that I do not have a dream job in mind or a passion I was born to do. This is one strike against me. Secondly, I would really like to have my summers off to be with the kids while they are young. While I am at it, how about Christmas and Spring Break. I?d also like to be able to take a day off (guilt free) when one of my kids is home from school sick. Yeah, I know?... More About: Future
Surfing the Net
2008-05-10 08:04:00 It is late and I should be in bed. I have been having such problems sleeping for over a month now. So here I sit with my trusty laptop on my lap. I have been online for a while, but I?m kind of surfed out now. I have visited all my favorite sites and blogs. So here I am updating mine.I have been given a lot of great advise from friends on how to get a better nights sleep. It seems that I am no the only one with this problem. I was told to not have any caffeine in the evening, including chocolate. Since I am addicted to chocolate I can?t always stop myself. However it is not like I?m gorging on it, a small piece can?t hurt me? right?I was also told to try earplugs. It helps with blocking out snoring spouses yet will (apparently) still enable you to hear little ones calling out to you. I don?t know about this idea. Several of my friends use them, so it must work. Yet, after one night I haven?t used them again. They didn?t seem to help block out my husband?s loud snoring ... More About: Surfing
What Mother's Day means to me
2008-05-10 01:15:00 My son came home this afternoon from Kindergarten with a Mother?s Day gift he had made for me. A ceramic flowerpot where he had written, ?I love Mom? and drew a few butterflies. Using tissue paper and a wooden clothespin he also made me an adorable butterfly. ?Do you like it?? he asked. No? I LOVED it.I remember wondering if my mom liked the gifts I?d bring home from school. They were not fancy or expensive like womens gold watches. I always wanted her to know how much I loved and appreciated her. I never felt my handmade gifts were good enough for her. Now, I think I know they were. Nothing could be better then the gifts my son worked so hard to create for me. I know (now) that my mom felt the same way.I miss my mom. She died of cancer when I was 15. After she died Mother?s Day became a painful reminder that she was gone. I had no one to buy a card for. It was a very empty and lonely feeling. Then some 18 years after her death I became a mom. My first Mother?s Day as a mom felt awk...
Watching TV and Rambling
2008-05-08 23:41:00 I watched the View this morning. I am addicted to this show and the drama that goes a long with the hot topic segment. I sometimes feel I am there and wish I could share my thoughts on a subject or applaud one of the hosts when she says something I agree with.If you recorded today?s show you know Robert Downey Jr was on. How old is he any way? He was looking hot. I know he has been in and out of drug rehab through the years. He has battled a lot of demons in the past, but he seems to have pulled through. I?ve always loved him as an actor. I loved, loved, LOVED him on Alley McBeal. I should go onto Amazon and find out how much it would cost to purchase the series Alley McBeal on DVD. The first couple of years were the best. I remember I was newly married and we hadn?t had the kids yet when the show started. My husband did not get that show at all. I tried to get him to watch it with me but he had no interest. Boston Legal is a close second I suppose, but nothing will be... More About: Rambling , Watching
Dress Shopping
2008-05-08 19:48:00 I have written about our planned summer trip back home for my husband?s 25th High School Reunion. I have been dress browsing lately. Notice the word ?browsing? in my last sentence. I haven?t had the guts to actually try on a dress for his reunion yet. I am afraid of how they will look on me. As a stay-at-home mom all I wear is jeans and t-shirts. I truly can not remember the last time I wore a dress or skirt. Now I?m wondering if I need to invest in some Phentermine and start working out. Why though? It isn?t my old friends and foes that I want to impress. I guess I just want to look presentable. I don?t want to look like an unkept housewife. I really struggle with the image of stay-at-home mothers. The ?on the couch eating bon-bons? one. That isn't me. That image doesn't represent any of us. Still I feel when some people hear that you do not work outside of the home, they think you are lazy and have no life. This probably bothers me more then it should.Anyway, I gu... Bowling with kids!
2008-05-07 21:45:00 Today my son is off from Kindergarten. It is an early release day, which means all Kindergarten classes are cancelled. I made plans with a few friends to go bowling this morning. My kids have never bowled before. They were really excited and couldn?t wait to get there. The bowling alley we went too is the newest one in the city and very big. The moms and I couldn?t help but notice we were given the alleys in the farthest corner away from everyone. Hey, they were thinking a head. A bunch of load and excitable kids will end up being on the loud and hyper side.Now-a-days they have bumpers for any balls that head to the gutter. The balls just bounce back into the lanes. I didn?t have that as a kid! The bowling alley also provided us with ramps. The kids just had to place their 2 pound ball on the ramp and give it a gentle push. Then the ball was off! Thanks to these new inventions, there were several cheers given to strikes and spares! So bowling was a success. It was a lot ... More About: Kids , Bowling
Cell Phone Boosters
2008-05-07 02:24:00 My in-laws recently purchased an RV. Even with the inflated gas prices we are presently enduring they are planning a big road trip this summer. However I will save that topic for another post for another time! My mother-in-law mentioned the other day that they purchased their first cell phone so they can be reached while they are on the road or incase of an emergency. I thought this was a really smart idea. However they have since be informed by other RV driving friends that they could experience poor cell phone reception depending where they go and where they park their RV overnight. My in-laws are not that computer saavy (which means they don?t even own one). So I have been doing some research for them. Did you know there is a product out there called a cell phone signal booster?A PowerfulSignal dual band SOHO Quick Kit will amplify and boost cell signals. It is easy to setup in a room, office or shop. From what I have read this kit is also ideal for RV?s and motorhomes. ... More About: Phone , Cell Phone , Cell , Cell-phone
At the Mall
More articles from this author:2008-05-07 01:18:00 This afternoon I took the kids to the mall. Why or why? Self-punishment I suppose ? ha, ha. I treated them to McDonalds first. It was lunchtime and they were hungry which was good. Sometimes I feel like I?m just giving money away to Ronald McDonald. Seriously, there are days when they claim after 2 bites that they are full.Anyway, my purpose for taking them to the mall was get their picture taken. Yeah. Again, in retrospect I have to ask myself? why!!!??? I know it is hard to get a picture where both my kids look good. My son has this goofy looking fake smile going on lately. Not attractive. Today I got stuck with an inexperienced photographer today. This sure didn?t help the situation. Her posing was questionable. Her interaction with the kids was minimal. In the end there was really only one pose to pick. My son?s smile looked surprisingly natural in it. My daughter had a nice smile but had squished her chin in giving the appearance of a double chin. I took the picture because I r... More About: Mall 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 |
