Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer share the stage at D6 on Tuesday with Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher.(Credit: Dan Farber/CNET News.com) Tonight at the D6 conference in Carlsbad, Calif., Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer and Chairman Bill Gates will take the stage together. The dual interview, to be presided over by The Wall Street Journal's Walt Mossberg, will be, in part, an exit interview. Gates is stepping down from his full-time role at Microsoft (corrected: he will remain as chairman of the board) in July. We will also get an early demo of Windows 7. As Dan Farber reports, we'll see a little bit of the interface, which promises to be very shiny. I'm hoping that we go a bit deeper than that: that there's news about robustness, open architecture, and maybe even the object-oriented file system we were supposed to have in Vista. We've looked at quite a few mind mapping tools here on Webware. Most recently, Webware's Rafe Needleman checked out a half dozen services that do the job one way or another. Nearly all of them require you to build and develop maps in a giant 2D space, something I think most people will spend more time trying to figure out rather than simply getting ideas down, which is where Text2Mind Map is quite handy. Instead of having you build out your ideas on some huge network of nodes, the tool lets you simply write down a list. Whenever you place indents, it will separate the bundle of items into a node, with little sub-nodes below each one. It makes it delightfully simple to put together huge mind maps in a very short amount of time--and without futzing about with any special control schemes or overly ambitious UIs. CLICK FRAUD LAWSUIT TARGETS IAC’S CITYSEARCH

A Los Angeles-based law firm with a history of targeting online media companies for click fraud filed suit Tuesday against Citysearch, the directory site owned by IAC/InterActiveCorp, as well as Ticketmaster, the ticketing site that IAC is attempting to spin out into a separate publicly traded company. "Citysearch.com is defrauding its advertising customers of millions of dollars by not only turning a blind eye to click fraud, but in fact encouraging it as well," a statement from the firm Kabateck Brown Kellner read. The class action suit encompasses anyone in the U.S. who paid for pay-per-click advertising space on Citysearch, but the named plaintiff is Tom Lambotte, who purchased ad space on Citysearch and then claimed that the number of clicks on his ads rose suspiciously. Representatives from IAC and Citysearch were not immediately available for comment. FACEBOOK: YEP, WE’RE DOING THE OPEN-SOURCE THING

As rumored earlier, Facebook will indeed be announcing an open-source project for its developer platform. The social network released a statement Tuesday to clarify the gossip--while still not offering much in the way of detail. "We're working on an open-source initiative that is meant to help application developers better understand Facebook Platform and more easily build applications, whether it's by running their own test servers, building tools, or optimizing their applications," a statement from Facebook read. "As Facebook Platform continues to mature, open-sourcing the infrastructure behind it is a natural step so developers can build richer social applications and share what they've learned with the ecosystem," the statement continued. "Additional details will be released soon." So it's still not clear as to just how extensive the open-source project, which TechCrunch says is called "fbOpen ," will be: whether the entire platform will become an open-source environment ...

The company is best known for its online used-CD trading service, which is an interesting idea but works well only if you have a large list of CDs available to trade. Lala.com will let you stream any song once at no charge, and an unlimited number of times for $0.10 per song. In sourcing or in finding candidates for a position, limiting yourself is like signing your own death certificate. Never, ever do this in sourcing because it will just defy your goal which is to have a rich resource of candidates in the most managed ways possible.This is the reason why I entitled my blog entry as such. In sourcing, you should be creative as possible if ever the "traditonal" way does not have a quality outcome. These belonging to the traditional way includes the ads (online or newspaper), word of mouth, referrals, and such. There are other alternatives like organizing a job fair in unlikely places which you think could yield additional turn-out. TWITTER TOO BIG FOR YOU? TRY ONE-WORD-WONDER ADOCU

Twitter clones have been aplenty since the service launched in mid-2006. Many have come out offering more, foregoing some of the simplicity that made Twitter popular to begin with (see Poodz and Pownce). However, one that's just cropped up, called Adocu, is almost a joke, ditching the 160-character cap and only limiting messages to whatever you can fit inside of one (sometimes giant) word. Users are encouraged to string multiple words together. You can fit nearly whatever you want as long as there are no spaces. OK, however, are dashes, apostrophes, commas, and periods--meaning you can add some order to your words if you'd like. My guess, though, is that the creators wanted to instill an even greater sense of minimalism to the point of removing whatever capitalization you throw into your messages. iamcompletelyserious. Samsung’s first 256GB SSD has just been publicly announced. For those that don’t know the MLC-flash SATA II drive has speeds of 200MBps and 160MBps sequential write. Awesome! I can’t wait till September comes around for this 256GB SSD to go on sale because it's going to have a nice price tag attached to it.Righ now it’s just a matter of deciding whether I want this ASAP or whether it’s worth holding off until the 1.8-inch version comes out sometime in the fourth quarter, this year. I JUST GOT OFF THE TWITTERFONE…

Let's say you are so busy, you don't even have time to type in your Twitters. Then you might want to take a look at Twitterfone, which lets you, literally, phone it in: You talk. It Twitters. I tried it and found voice recognition surprisingly good. It got my name wrong, but I've been called worse. I suspect that Twitterfone is using human-assisted voice recognition (see ReQall), which would not be an untenable strategy if the product actually generated revenue. And on that part of the equation, I'm stumped, unless Twitterfone is getting a per-call bounty from phone carriers. Not bad. Click image to listen to the recording that generated this Tweet. Today is Monday, Memorial Day in the USA, so this post is on self confidence.I got a great lesson in self confidence yesterday from Cathy, my wife.  We are members of the Denver Art Museum.  We had been meaning to see a traveling exhibit, “Inspiring Impressionism” there ever since it opened.  It closed yesterday.  We piled into our car and drove to the DAM.  As we were entering the parking lot, there was a sign saying that the Inspiring Impressionism show was sold out.  That was a drag, but all was not lost as there was another exhibit featuring the quilts of Gee’s Bend that we wanted to see.Admission to the Museum is free for us because we are members.  When we entered the museum, a volunteer told us that the Inspiring Impressionism show was sold out.  I headed for the line that would let us in to see the permanent exhibits and the Gee’s Bend quilts.  Cathy went to the will call for tickets for the Inspiring Impre...
