The BAFTA as predicted has chosen Atonement as its Best Film of the year. However, the award for Best Director went to the Coen Brothers for their latest feature, No Country for Old Men, considered one of the frontrunners in the Oscars. ... it is hard to deny the relevancy and appeal of a robotic character that is almost 25 years old. - - - - - - Fictionalized accounts of robots have been in film since the 1930’s so the idea itself of robots in movies isn’t really a novel concept, but we all love them just the same. Who hasn’t thought of having a robot version of themselves to do all their work for them? There is something very Frankenstein-esque about humans building a mechanized version of themselves to perform tasks they aren’t equipped or, more times than not, willing to do. Robots in movies come in all shapes and sizes. They can be depicted as cute and cuddly (Johnny 5 from Short Circuit), not so cute and cuddly (Agent Smith from The Matrix series), or just plain misunderstood (Robocop from, well, Robocop). After years of making quirky love tales and over-the-top comedies, he finds himself more at home with these dark and serious tales involving tightly-knit families. One of the most anticipated movie this year is Tom Sturridge (http://themovie-fanatic.com/hotlist/risi ng_stars/tom_sturridge/) could have played a better Davey (the lead character) . Not that Hayden Christensen (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0159789/) is a bad actor- he's not. He was quite decent in Shattered Glass (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0323944/), the true story of a young journalist who fabricated stories he wrote for a political journal. But he suck big time in Star Wars, not to mention the recent disaster, the absurb and inept Awake (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0211933/). He simply doesn't ring a bell for me. It's dark, it's romantic, and it also deals with mortality in a pretty unflattering way. The guy is born in 1919 - with the film itself beginning in the Civil war, travelling around the world and carrying on all the way through to the year 2000. says director David Fincher.
