Widow leaves $21 million to Chinese restaurant owners
2007-12-11 02:02:00 LONDON (AP) — Think of it as a giant tip. A wealthy widow repaid the kindness shown to her by a family that runs a Chinese restaurant she frequented by leaving them $20.3 million in her will — a gesture a High Court judge ruled perfectly legal Friday as he dismissed the objections of relatives. Golda Bechal’s 1994’s will said she wanted Kim Sing Man and his wife, Bee Lian, the owners of a Chinese restaurant northeast of London, to inherit her money. She died in January 2004, aged 88. Bechal’s five nephews and nieces asked the court to declare the will invalid, claiming their aunt was suffering from dementia. They had asked the judge to give the inheritance to them. Man Says He Found Condom BK Whopper
2007-12-10 03:56:00 Van Miguel Hartless, 24, of Fair Haven, said Friday he bought the Southwestern Whopper at a Burger King in Rutland on June 18 and made the discovery when he got home and started eating it. "My third bite into the burger, it was just a foreign taste," he said. "It was a very sour, bitter sort of taste. It almost had a numbing sensation. "As I went to bite down a little harder, I felt a rubber grind in between my teeth. I saw it half in my mouth, half hanging out. It was an immediate sick-to-my-stomach type of thing." Hartless said he waited three weeks before contacting an attorney. His lawsuit, filed Nov. 16, names store owner Carrols Corp., of Syracuse, N.Y., and seeks damages for pain and suffering, emotional duress and medical expenses. Messages left with Carrols Corp. were not returned Friday. A spokeswoman for Burger King said it has referred the matter to Carrols Corp. More About: Condom

Postal Service to Netflix: redesign your mailers or face fee
2007-12-08 00:37:00 It Turns out those little handy mailers that Netflix sends their customers is costing the U.S. Postal Servic millions. The mailer can’t go through the current sorting machines at the post offices. So millions of Netflix mailers are handled by hand , costing the US Postal Service a staggering $41.9 million in additional labor costs over the past two years due to their "nonmachinable nature," and if things aren’t changed, it could cost them another $61.5 million over the next couple years. The Postal service will start charging Netflix fees if they don’t change their package design. Netflix will most likely comply rather than risk fees that would be passed on by the consumers.. Netflix saves the postal service $100 million annually because it pays the first-class postage rate both ways even though the company picks up returned mail at the post office, Netflix spokesman Steve Swasey said. Netflix ships about 1.6 million DVDs a day. So the mailer ... More About: Face , Redesign |
