Spitzer call girl sues 'Girls Gone Wild' for $10 million
2008-04-29 22:48:00 The call girl linked to the downfall of former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer sued the founder of the "Girl s Gone Wild " series on Monday for $10 million, claiming he exploited her image and name to advertise the racy videos. Ashley Alexandra Dupre, 22, contended in the lawsuit that she was only 17 — too young to sign legally binding contracts — and drunk on spring break in 2003 when she agreed to be filmed for "Girls Gone Wild" in Miami Beach. Dupre "did not understand the magnitude of her actions, nor that her image and likeness would be displayed in videos and DVDs," says the lawsuit filed by Miami attorney Richard C. Wolfe. The lawsuit filed in federal court in Miami names as defendants "Girls Gone Wild" founder Joe Francis, two of his companies and a man purportedly involved in creation of two Internet sites that the lawsuit contends improperly use Dupre's image to sell DVDs and other products. Francis, 35, has built a soft p... More About: Call , Million
Obama Disavows Wright; McCain Still Silent on Hagee, Armageddon and Iran
2008-04-29 17:09:00 Barack Obama in no uncertain terms today made a clear break with his incendiary former minister, the Reverend Jeremiah Wright . But despite Obama's disavowal of his one-time pastor's outrageous statements, the media spotlight continues to shine on Wright. Meanwhile, John McCain has maintained his silence on the dangerous vision of Armageddon and Iran held by his own pastoral supporter, John Hagee. In the wake of Wright's erratic grandstanding at events on Sunday and Monday, Senator Obama made it clear he had enough of the minister's continuing affronts: "I gave him the benefit of the doubt in my speech in Philadelphia explaining that he's done enormous good...But when he states and then amplifies such ridiculous propositions as the U.S. government somehow being involved in AIDS...There are no excuses. They offended me. They rightly offend all Americans and they should be denounced." But 62 days after he declared himself "very proud" and "honored&... More About: Silent

Rush Limbaugh Sings: "I'm Dreaming Of Riots In Denver"
2008-04-25 13:28:00 Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh downplayed his "dreaming of riots in Denver " statement, saying that he wasn't calling for riots and was referring to warnings of trouble if super delegates decide the nomination at the Democratic National Convention. Limbaugh's comments on his syndicated show Wednesday prompted Mayor John Hickenlooper to say: "Anyone who would call for riots in an American city has clearly lost their bearings." Hear him sing: Limbaugh made his comment Wednesday to the tune of the holiday song, "White Christmas," and said riots during the convention would ensure Democrats don't get elected. Glenn Spagnuolo, an organizer with the protest group Re-create 68, mimicked a comment by state Rep. Douglas Bruce, R-Colorado Springs, by saying: "We don't need another 5,000 illiterate Limbaugh listeners coming to Colorado." More About: Dreaming , Rush Limbaugh
Young Muslim Makes Video to Show All Religions Can be "Evil"
2008-04-22 18:45:00 Remember the anti-Islam video "Fitna" put out by a Dutch politician last month? Well a young Saudi businessman has decided to give Christianity the same treatment. Raed al-Saeed's increasingly popular video "Schism," mashes images of aggressive behavior by Christians with aggressive Bible-verses. Unlike the Dutch video of violence by Muslim s played to verses of the Koran, the Biblical version is not motivated by a desire to stop the spread of a religion. Instead, al-Saeed wanted to show that any religion, including Christianity, can easily be cast in an "evil" light. He told NPR that "It's not the right way to judge a religion by a video made by a guy who hated that religion." To find out what images made the Christian version, read more. Clinton turns up ?kitchen? heat with new ad
2008-04-22 02:35:00 On the eve of the all-important Pennsylvania primary, Hillary Clinton has launched a new ad once again touting herself as the most able candidate to become president. “You need to be ready for anything — especially now, with two wars, oil prices skyrocketing and an economy in crisis, ” reads the script. “Harry Truman said it best – if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.” And now, for the rebuttal, please welcome President William Jefferson Clinton: Obama's response to Hillary's ad follows the campaign's usual parry to the the experience jab by highlighting his judgement and unifying quality. The reply seeks to shift the terms of debate from which candidate would be best in a crisis to which candidate can best bring about change. And a quick side note, some in the media have disparagingly described Hillary's recent attacks as a "kitchen... More About: Kitchen , Heat

Military Operatives Working In The News Media To Brainwash You?
2008-04-20 22:50:00 The NY Times has a lengthy, yet informative, article on the psyops perpetrated by the Bush administration. Anti-war folks figured this out a long time ago, but we’ll give the NYTimes kudos for printing history. Hidden behind that appearance of objectivity, though, is a Pentagon information apparatus that has used those analysts in a campaign to generate favorable news coverage of the administration’s wartime performance, an examination by The New York Times has found. The effort, which began with the buildup to the Iraq war and continues to this day, has sought to exploit ideological and military allegiances, and also a powerful financial dynamic: Most of the analysts have ties to military contractors vested in the very war policies they are asked to assess on air. Those business relationships are hardly ever disclosed to the viewers, and sometimes not even to the networks themselves. But collectively, the men on the plane and several dozen other military analysts repre... More About: News , Media , Military , In the News , The News

50 Doesn't Like Alicia Anymore
2008-04-20 19:57:00 50 Cent decided he needed to respond to Alicia Keys' comments in Blender Magazine about Gangsta rap being "a ploy to convince black people to kill each other." Hillary Clinton On Southern Working Class Whites In 1995: "Screw 'Em"
2008-04-17 01:58:00 During the past week, Sen. Hillary Clinton has presented herself as a working class populist, the politician in touch with small town sentiments, compared to the elitism of her opponent, Sen. Barack Obama. But a telling anecdote from her husband's administration shows Hillary Clinton's attitudes about the "lunch-bucket Democrats" are not exactly pristine. In January 1995, as the Clintons were licking their wounds from the 1994 congressional elections, a debate emerged at a retreat at Camp David. Should the administration make overtures to working class white southerners who had all but forsaken the Democratic Party? The then-first lady took a less than inclusive approach. "Screw 'em," she told her husband. "You don't owe them a thing, Bill. They're doing nothing for you; you don't have to do anything for them." Martin Luther King Jr.'s last undelivered sermon: "Why America May Go to He
2008-04-09 21:15:00 On Thursday, April 4, 1968, Martin Luther King Jr. had retreated to room 306 of the Lorraine Motel, worrying about a sanitation strike in Memphis and working on his sermon for Sunday. Its title: "Why America May Go to Hell." For King, whose focus had shifted from civil rights to antiwar agitation and populist economics, the Dream was turning dark. He had been depressed, sleeping little and suffering from migraines. In Washington, his plans for a massive Poor People's Campaign were in disarray. In Memphis, King's first march with striking garbage men had degenerated into riot when young black radicals--not, as in the glory days, angry state troopers--broke King's nonviolent ranks. By 5 p.m. he was hungry and looked forward to a soul-food supper. Always fastidious-a prince of the church--King shaved, splashed on cologne and stepped onto the balcony. He paused; a .30-06 rifle shot slammed King back against the wall, his arms stretched out to his sides as if he were bein... More About: Sermon

8 Teens Charged in Videotaped Attack

Increase of Japan Robot Workers
2008-04-08 13:50:00 Robots could fill the jobs of 3.5 million people in graying Japan by 2025, a thinktank says, helping to avert worker shortages as the country's population shrinks. Japan faces a 16 percent slide in the size of its workforce by 2030 while the number of elderly will mushroom, the government estimates, raising worries about who will do the work in a country unused to, and unwilling to contemplate, large-scale immigration. The thinktank, the Machine Industry Memorial Foundation, says robots could help fill the gaps, ranging from microsized capsules that detect lesions to high-tech vacuum cleaners. Rather than each robot replacing one person, the foundation said in a report that robots could make time for people to focus on more important things. Japan says it could save 2.1 trillion yen ($21 billion) of elderly insurance payments in 2025 by using robots that monitor the health of older people, so they don't have to rely on human nursing care, the foundation said in its report.
