Obama Splits With Yet Another Clergyman
2008-05-29 21:19:00
The campaign cuts ties with the Rev. Michael Pfleger. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said Thursday that he was “deeply disappointed” by a supporter’s sermon at his church that mocked Hillary Rodham Clinton, The Associated Press is reporting. The Rev. Michael Pfleger, a Chicago activist, also apologized for last Sunday’s sermon at Obama’s church, in which he said Clinton’s eyes welled with tears before the New Hampshire primary because she felt “entitled” to the Democratic nomination and because “there’s a Black man stealing my show.” In video circulating on the Internet, Pfleger said the former first lady expected to win the nomination before Obama’s sudden popularity. (See the video below) “She just always thought that, ‘This is mine. I’m Bill’s wife. I’m White.’ … And then, out of nowhere, came ‘Hey, I’m Barack Obama.” And ...
Images of Man, Woman On Sex Tape Are Authentic
2008-05-29 21:15:00
Expert witness says video footage in R. Kelly child porn case is real. No computer tricks were used to generate images of a man resembling R. Kelly and an apparently underage girl in a porn video, an expert says. FBI forensics specialist George Skaluba told jurors at the singer’s trial Thursday that the video appears to show “real people in a real environment,” despite suggestions by Kelly’s lawyers that technology may have been used. Kelly faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted of videotaping sex acts, including urinating on what prosecutors say was a girl as young as 13 at the time of the video’s taping. Both Kelly and the alleged victim have denied appearing in the footage. “It would be very, very time-consuming and very hard to do,” Skaluba said of any effort to place false images of the man and young woman into the video footage. Meanwhile, prosecutors told the court they need more time to interview a possible defe...

Who would deface a mural of Barack Obama?
2008-05-26 22:13:00
Merchants around the Little Five Points community in Atlanta want to know who defaced a painting of presidential candidate Barack Obama (video: MyFoxAtlanta). Only a few hours after the artwork went up, vandals did serious damage to it. Phil Sims told WGCL in Atlanta Monday that he was sickened to see what someone had done to the Obama mural, adding that the area had a mural of Martin Luther King Jr., that had never been defaced. Cameron Wilthshire, who created the mural with another artist, told the Atlanta TV station that “the eyes were blacked out and there was a swastika on his forehead.” Wilthshire said there are those who just aren’t ready for a Black president, and they can’t wrap their head around the thought. He said if the mural is defaced again, he’ll just paint over it.

Soldiers In Afghanistan Free To Get Their Freak on
2008-05-22 06:27:00
For many moons, soldiers in Afghanistan weren't allowed to have sex, but now a new order says they are allowed, so we can win the war. However, this may lead to increased pregnancies, because apparently the same military that trains its soldiers to dismantle a gun in 30 seconds cannot train its soldiers how to put on a condom the right way. "I think it's a bad idea," said Pfc. Shane Inman, 30, of Fort Dodge, Iowa. "I think there's going to be a lot more pregnancies going around. Not that there already isn't. But at least they won't get in trouble for it." You see, the basic difference between the old rules and the new rules is that now the military will be very sad and disappointed if its soldiers are fucking each other, whereas before such soldiers could be punished. Thanks to Wonkette Military Sexual Relations Operative "Michael" for the tip. Ban on Sex for Soldiers in Afghanistan Lifted ... Sort Of [Stars and Stripes]

Teen Poisons Mother After Mom Takes Away Cell Phone
2008-05-22 05:30:00
Christina Shehow, a 16 year old Pasco High School student has been arrested and charged with aggravated domestic violence for allegedly poisoning her mother. Pasco, Florida officials arrested the 16 year old on Tuesday, amid allegations that the teen used seasoning salt to poison her mother, knowing her mother had a severe food allergy to seasoning salt. Investigators say the teen admitted putting seasoning salt in her mother's food. She also told police that she was not happy with her home life, but did not intend to hurt her mother. Lenna Mercer-Goodwin, the teens' 39 year old mother was attending her other daughter's baseball practice when she began having a severe reaction. Mercer-Goodwin was too ill to administer her own medication, so Shehow administered the epinephrine shot. On May 7, Shehow's stepfather, William Goodwin, went to the sheriff's District II office and reported that he thought his stepdaughter might be tampering with his wife's food. He explained t...

Sue Everhart: John McCain is Kind of Like Jesus Christ on the Cross
2008-05-21 07:02:00
It used to be common for Republicans to claim or believe that God was responsible for George W. Bush being president. It seemed to strike them as reasonable to think that their god would place Bush in the presidency to deal with problems like the 9/11 terrorist attacks, but not reasonable to wonder why their god didn't just stop the attacks in the first place. Given all of Bush's blunders throughout his presidency, I guess it's not surprising that they have forgotten to say that Bush was God's choice, but the principle of giving their candidates divine sanction has not disappeared entirely.  Sue Everhart, chairwoman of the Georgia Republican Party, was quoted as saying: "John McCain is kind of like Jesus Christ on the cross," Everhart said as she began the second day of the state GOP convention. "He never denounced God, either." ..."I'm not trying to compare John McCain to Jesus Christ , I'm looking at the pain that was there," she sa...

McCain's Pastor Problem: Hagee, the Holocaust and God's Will
2008-05-21 06:09:00
John Hagee, the controversial evangelical leader and endorser of Sen. John McCain, could be as big a problem for McCain as Rev. Wright is for Barack Obama. In a speech unearthed by Bruce Wilson, Hagee described the Holocaust and Hitler as God's Will. As Hagee said in his speech: Now how is God going to bring them back to the land? The answer is fishers and hunters. The answer is given in Jeremiah 16, verse 15 and following. God says in Jeremiah 16 - “Behold I will bring them the Jewish people again unto their land that I gave unto their fathers” - that would be Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - “Behold I will send for many fishers and after will I send for many hunters. And they the hunters shall hunt them” - that will be the Jews - “from every mountain and from every hill and from out of the holes of the rocks.” If that doesn't describe what Hitler did in the Holocaust... you can't see that. Hagee later apologized for these remarks, but it'...

2008-05-20 05:19:00
Rachael Ann Wilson , a 29 year old Sacramento, California resident was arrested after trying to sneak fifteen pounds of marijuana onto a plane bound for Atlanta. According to Transport Security Agents (TSA), Wilson checked two large cardboard boxes at the ticket counter and then preceded to board the plane. When the boxes were too large for the x-ray machine, agents opened them. Inside were more than two dozen coffee cans that did not match the weight stated on the labels, so they opened the cans. Inside they found 15 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated street value of $125,000. Agents boarded the U.S. Airways flight and immediately arrested Wilson. Pastor Arrested In Online Sex Sting, Drove 200 Miles To Meet 13 Year Old Gi
2008-05-18 05:43:00
Joe Barron, a 52 year old former pastor at Prestonwood Baptist Church, has been arrested in an online sex sting after he drove nearly 200 miles to meet a 13 year old girl. Rev. Jack Graham, a current pastor of the Dallas based mega-church, announced during Saturday service that the church accepted the resignation of Joe Barron effective immediately. According to Bryan police, Barron engaged in sexual chats with what he thought was a 13 year old girl. Instead, the 'girl' was an undercover sex crimes officer who monitored the chats for two weeks. Barron told "the girl" over his computer that he wanted to have sex with her and asked that she skip school and meet with him, according to investigators. On May 6th, authorities say Barron suggested that the two should meet. After officers accepted Barron's request, he drove nearly 200 miles to meet the girl he thought he'd been chatting with. Police also state that the former pastor called them from ...

President Bush Compares Obama's Iran Diplomacy To Nazis
2008-05-15 18:07:00
During a speech in Jerusalem, President Bush jumped head first into the 2008 presidential campaign by taking a shot at Democratic presidential nominee, Barack Obama, by comparing his willingness to hold diplomatic talks with Iran to the appeasement of Nazis in the 1930’s. President Bush ’s foreign policy has been nothing short of a disaster and even MSNBC’s Pat Buchanan can’t help but call this what it is - an unprecedented smear of an American presidential candidate from outside the country. Buchanan and Harold Ford Jr. both agree that Bush has really stepped in it with these comments and the big question now, as it relates the presidential campaign, is how Senator John McCain reacts. McCain has already used the Hamas smear repeatedly against Senator Obama, but will he embrace these farcical statements of President Bush? Senator Obama immediately responds to the attacks: “It is sad that President Bush would use a speech to the Knesset on the 60th an...

Obama T-Shirts for sale: ?Curious George?
2008-05-15 03:48:00
Hurry, hurry, step right up! Get yourself a cool monkey/Obama t-shirt. Marietta bar owner Mike Norman says the T-shirts he’s peddling, featuring a look-a-like of cartoon chimp Curious George peeling a banana, with “Obama in ‘08″ underneath, are not meant to offend. Norman acknowledged the imagery’s Jim Crow roots but said he sees nothing wrong with depicting a prominent African-American as a monkey. We’re not living in the (19)40’s,” he said. “Look at him . . . the hairline, the ears — he looks just like Curious George.”About a dozen prostestors rallied against the shirts Tuesday afternoon, condemning them as racist and asking Norman, longtime proprietor of Mulligan’s Bar and Grill on Roswell Street, to stop selling them. Marietta native Pam Lindley, 47, joined the protest after reading about the controversy online. “I don’t want people to think this is what Marietta is all about,” she added...

Clinton Supporter Won't Vote for Obama Because "He's a Muslim"
2008-05-13 20:13:00
It seems, no matter what you tell people, they still won't believe it. Despite the fact that many use Rev. Wright as a weapon against Obama - which would tend to indicate that he's not a Muslim - many still believe, no matter what they are told. Witness Janice on this video: Janice: "He's a Muslim, and you know, and that has a lot to do with it. I just, you know, I'd just rather have Hillary." Reporter: "Just for the record, he constantly says he's ..." Janice: "I know he does, he says he isn't." Wow, some people are just ... seeing as it's West Virginia, and based on the stories about racism, is it all just a convenient excuse people use rather than saying the real reason is that he's black?

SNL: Hillary Clinton: "I Have No Ethical Standards"
2008-05-10 20:22:00
As Hillary Clinton ignores calls to end her candidacy, some have wondered if the continued fight between Barack Obama and herself is aiding the GOP. All right, more than some, many. But, despite some past assertions that SNL was backing Clinton, they certainly skewered her on Saturday's show - as well as the question as to why she has still not dropped out - which was hosted by Shia Labeouf. As portrayed by SNL, Hillary Clinton listed several reasons that we should consider her the better candidate against McCain. First, I am a sore loser. If and when I am the nominee, I know as do the superdelegates that Senator Obama will work his heart out for my election. If, on the other hand, Senator Obama is chosen, I will probably refuse to campaign for him. Or if I do so, it will be in a resentful, half-hearted way, thus ensuring his defeat, so that I can run again in 2012. You see, unlike my opponent, I'm just not going to lose gracefully. Second, my supporters are racist. If and whe...

E-mails show racism in Secret Service
2008-05-10 16:34:00
Supervisors in the U.S. Secret Service exchanged e-mails with racist jokes, some of them sexual, a document filed in federal court Friday said. The filing came in a discrimination lawsuit filed in 2000 by 10 black Secret Service agents, The New York Times reported. One 2003 e-mail joked about the Rev. Jesse Jackson and his wife being on an airplane hit by a missile. The e-mail referred to Jackson as the "Righteous Reverend." Lawyers for the plaintiffs said another e-mail -- containing a crude joke about sex illustrated with a picture of a naked black man and white woman -- was sent by Donald White, now head of the presidential protective detail, to Kurt Douglass, agent in charge of the Cincinnati office. The government missed a March deadline for turning over the e-mails by a month, the newspaper said. Lawyer E. Desmond Hogan said he was "shocked but not surprised" by the delay. "The government's delay follows a pattern of the Secret Service stonewall...

Man Allegedly Pimped His Teenage Bride
2008-05-10 00:51:00
Sheriff's deputies in Ash Fork say a 51-year-old man married a teenage girl and then invited other men to have sex with her while he took photographs. Donald Leacock has been indicted on 24 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. Coconino County Sheriff's spokesman Gerry Blair says deputies were called to a home in the town west of Williams in late February by a 14-year-old girl who wanted them to stand by while she moved out of Leacock's house. The girl told deputies that Leacock had fondled her and taken nude pictures and that he lived with his 16-year-old wife. Blair says detectives believe Leacock would post photos of his wife on the Internet and then invite other men to have sex with her. One of those men has been arrested and others are being sought.

McCain's Pastor Problem: The Video
2008-05-09 22:13:00
During a 2005 sermon, a fundamentalist pastor whom Senator John McCain has praised and campaigned with called Islam "the greatest religious enemy of our civilization and the world," claiming that the historic mission of America is to see "this false religion destroyed." In this taped sermon, currently sold by his megachurch, the Reverend Rod Parsley reiterates and amplifies harsh and derogatory comments about Islam he made in his book, Silent No More, published the same year he delivered these remarks. Meanwhile, McCain has stuck to his stance of not criticizing Parsley, an important political ally in a crucial swing state. In March 2008—two weeks after McCain appeared with Parsley at a Cincinnati campaign rally, hailing him as "one of the truly great leaders in America, a moral compass, a spiritual guide". Parsley had urged Christians to wage a "war" to eradicate Islam in his 2005 book. McCain's campaign refused to respond to q...

Philly Cop Beating Caught on Tape
2008-05-07 22:20:00
A video showing at least 15 Philadelphia police officers viciously kicking, punching and beating three Black men has residents in an uproar. In the video, featured below, officers are caught hitting the suspects with blackjacks after pulling them from their car late Monday. The three men were under suspicion for a murder Sunday night involving 20-year-old man. Tensions had already been high in Philly following the fatal shooting of Police Sgt. Stephen Liczbinski on Saturday, the third city officer slain on duty in two years. One man was fatally shot by police after the shooting, another was arrested Sunday and a third remains at large. John J. McNesby of the Fraternal Order of Police urged that “There’s always two sides to every video.”  Some of the officers seen in the video have been snatched off the street, while others still need to be identified, Doug Oliver, a spokesman for Mayor Michael Nutter, told The Associated Press. Oliver said that, while the use ...

75-95 arrested in San Diego State University drug bust
2008-05-07 21:53:00
Students at San Diego State were living the high life a bit too much. An undercover drug operation arrested 75 students on Tuesday. There were a total of 96 arrests made by the DEA and police. Some of the students are in school studying for degrees in criminal justice and homeland security. Those arrested had guns, money and drugs in their possession. Items seized in the investigation included $100,000 worth of drugs, including marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy pills, mushrooms, methamphetamine, and illicit prescription drugs. One shotgun, three semi-automatic pistols and about $60,000 in cash also were seized, Browning said. Drug sales occurred on numerous locations across the campus, including in an alley next to the Theta Chi fraternity house, according to court records. The investigation was launched after a student died of a cocaine overdose a year ago. Shirley Jennifer Poliakoff, 19, was found dead on the morning of May 6, 2007, in her Aztec Corner apartment. She was a member of Al...

Who should doctors let die in a pandemic?
2008-05-05 17:52:00
Which color gets stuck on your paperwork? Doctors know some patients needing lifesaving care won’t get it in a flu pandemic or other disaster. The gut-wrenching dilemma will be deciding who to let die. Now, an influential group of physicians has drafted a grimly specific list of recommendations for which patients wouldn’t be treated. They include the very elderly, seriously hurt trauma victims, severely burned patients and those with severe dementia… Public health law expert Lawrence Gostin of Georgetown University called the report an important initiative but also “a political minefield and a legal minefield.” The recommendations would probably violate federal laws against age discrimination and disability discrimination, said Gostin, who was not on the task force. I wonder what the standards will look like when chiseled into bureaucratic stone? After all, FEMA might be in charge.

Ready to have the streetlights spying on you?
2008-05-05 17:44:00
Just changing the bulb - eh? Sunrise Technologies’ new BrownBetty system creates a mesh network for communications between ground-based sensor and control devices and the Internet. By taking advantage of the existing streetlight infrastructure with its high elevation poles and clean line of sight, BrownBetty dramatically lowers the cost of backhaul communications while enabling applications that were previously not practical or affordable. For utilities, these could include automatic meter reading, time-of-use metering, advanced metering infrastructure, remote water meter reading, remote electric meter disconnect, fault indication, distribution automation, and utility GPS mapping. Other applications include Homeland Security sensor monitoring, peak period load shedding, vehicle tracking, advanced parking meters, storm drain blockage monitoring, water flow monitoring, home/business heating oil tank monitoring, and bridge stress monitoring, among many others. [Yes, I added t...

Nine Inch Nails album is free online
2008-05-04 18:43:00
In an unusual nod to the popularity of free music online, the rock act Nine Inch Nails is offering its new album, “The Slip,” through its Web site — for nothing. In a post on the band’s Web site, the band’s leader, Trent Reznor, said, “Thank you for your continued and loyal support over the years — this one’s on me.” The album…appears to represent the first time a superstar act has distributed an entire album without any opportunity for people to pay for it. Its release comes two months after the band issued the instrumental album “Ghosts I-IV” and allowed fans to obtain a portion of it for free or the entire recording for $5. Mr. Reznor’s new offer could serve as another test of how the easy availability of free music online affects subsequent CD sales and other money-making opportunities. “The Slip” will not be sold on CD or vinyl until at least July, according to representatives for the ban...

Blackwater shooting highlights ignorance of American officials
2008-05-04 17:52:00
Mohammed Hafidh Abdul-Razzaq had been summoned by U.S. Embassy officials who wanted to make amends for the killing of his 10-year-old son. The boy died during a shooting involving employees of Blackwater Worldwide, the U.S. security firm. Deputy Chief of Mission Patricia A. Butenis told him that she was sorry for what had happened, Abdul-Razzaq recalled. She gave him a sealed envelope. It had his name written on it. Abdul-Razzaq pushed it away. “I told her I refuse to receive any amount,” the auto parts dealer said. “My father is a tribal sheik, and we’re not used to taking any amount unless the concerned will come and confess and apologize. Then we will talk about compensation.” In September, Blackwater contractors protecting an embassy mission killed 17 Iraqis, including Abdul-Razzaq’s boy, and injured at least two dozen in a widely publicized incident in west Baghdad’s Nisoor Square. Blackwater officials have said their workers feared the...

Methadone is best known as a prescription drug that curbs heroin addiction, but it increasingly is prescribed as a painkiller.

Ben Stein insists, ?Science leads you to killing people?
2008-05-02 16:41:00
Ben Stein , a former Nixon aide and game-show host, probably best known for his role as a monotone teacher in “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” released an anti-evolution documentary recently called, “Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed.” The premise, as I understand it, is that those who reject modern biology struggle professionally in the sciences. Kevin Drum recently saw the movie, and reported back that towards the end, the documentary veered into the insane: “Stein spends the final half hour wandering around Dachau and telling us outright that his real motivation for attacking evolution isn’t any real flaw in the theory, but his belief that Darwinism leads directly to Nazi-ism, eugenics, atheism, the breakdown of morals, and mass slaughter. Can’t have that, so evolution needs to go too.” Regrettably, Kevin wasn’t exaggerating. Stein recently chatted with Paul Crouch, Jr. about his film. Stein: When we just saw that...

POLL: Bush more problematic for McCain than Wright is for Obama
2008-05-02 15:57:00
It’s pretty amazing when a sitting President and your ties to his failed policies are the number one liability to your run for the Oval Office. Despite any real attempt to define McCain as Bush 44, the public already sees the connection loud and clear. I’ve seen conservative after conservative go on TV today to talk about how mavericky John McCain really is. Nonsense. On the two most important issues this country faces — Iraq and the economy — John McCain is on the same exact page as George W. Bush. MSNBC: Sen. Barack Obama ’s ties to the Rev. Jeremiah Wright could hurt his presidential hopes. So could his comment about “bitter” small-town America clinging to guns and religion. And Americans might question Sen. Hillary Clinton’s honesty and trustworthiness. But according to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, the bigger problem appears to be John McCain’s ties to President Bush. In the survey, 43 percent of registered v...

Parents Call Police About Explosives Shipped to House
2008-04-30 22:43:00
A South Carolina teenager arrested for plotting to bomb his school had designs for an arsenal of explosives including a nail bomb that would have "devastated" students in a crowded hallway, a local police chief said today. Ryan Schallenberger, 18, called his plot "Columbine III" and laid out details in a "bomb summary" that described the different types of explosives he would use in the suicide attack. He even recorded his expenses. "I think he was more concerned about a high body count than killing anyone in particular," Chesterfield Police Chief Randall Lear told ABC News. Schallenberger's "summary" contained details for a nail bomb. "Inside a school, with confined concrete walls, just a little bit of nails, nuts and bolts, ball bearings and some of these explosives devices, it would devastate the student body," Lear said. Authorities arrested Schallenberger on Saturday after a package arrived at his family's rural...
