2008-02-18 10:23:00
Kim Kardashian is putting her famously big behind to good use by using it to help promote Bongo Jeans in their Spring 2008 print and online advertising campaign. This is a pretty smart move by Bongo as not only does it guarantee them lots of column inches but the photo shoots for the ad campaign will also be featured in an upcoming episode of Kim's reality show Keeping Up With the Kardashians which appears on E!. You can choose exactly what you want in your drink, be it just a normal coffee or some horrible half-caf soy mocha teacchino or whatever it is they sell there. A real, working underwater convertible
2008-02-16 14:44:00
When it comes to vehicles from famous movies, they don't get too much cooler than James Bond's Lotus convertible that can also function as a submarine. Unfortunately, the very idea of a convertible submarine is nonsensical, so we'll probably never see it in real life. Or will we?We will! Check out this Rinspee sQuba! It's a convertible that's also a submarine! You need to wear scuba masks attached to the built-in air tanks to drive it underwater, but how badass is this? In addition, it's a zero-emissions vehicle, running on a rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery, so you can pretend to be a secret agent without wrecking the environment. That's it, I'm sold. Where do I sign? (Source: dvice.com)

2008-02-16 13:12:00
Here’s a concept for a possible Alienware cell phone that could be produced by Dell’s Alienware division. It would feature some nice gaming options, and would run on Google’s Android platform. Dell would produce it under the Alienware banner because let’s face it, Dell Computers aren’t exactly trendy.

Avril Lavigne is the newest Maxim cover girl and I have to say, her rack looks damn delicious. The girl should seriously show them off more often instead of opening up that potty mouth of hers, because let’s be honest

Help Is On The Way
2008-02-16 10:40:00
In 2006, Johnson and Johnson turned to Harry Allen & Associates to re-design the First Aid Kit. Although it is one of Johnson and Johnson’s most iconic products, after years of cost engineering the First Aid Kit had been reduced to a disposable clear plastic case – gone were the memorable designs of yesteryear. The design was simple, to give the First Aid Kit a dynamic new form.Harry worked closely with Chris Hacker, Vice President of Global Design & Design Strategy, and the design team at J&J to rethink the kit. The resulting design puts the user first. It stands on end of ease of storage; the built in handle provides grab and go efficiency while maintaining the smallest possible profile; the color scheme is an eye-catching red and white, and the cross is bought back front and center. It is soft yet commanding, a friendly “figure eight” that is easily recognized as the first step in fighting minor health hazards. The case is shipping to stores as of January 2008...
Senior Screen Saver
2008-02-16 10:35:00
The elderly often get things wrong, from parking a car to Murder She Wrote. However, we do love them so and want to keep them around for as long as possible. With that in mind, the creators of the “Health Guard” concept for NOKIA believe that the best way to keep them around is to track their every movement (pun intended.) By monitoring (via RFID tags) what they consume; from expired foods, medicine, possible allergens and nutritional info., this easy to read and use information pad hopes to be a vital tool for the upcoming explosion of elderly Baby Boomers. This two-piece monitoring station attaches to any refrigerator and features a detachable RFID reader for trips to the local market, as well as a touch display base with easy to recognize universal icons. Other features include a memo pad and voice recorder for leaving really long messages that will probably be ignored. Conceived by Marcela Kawka and Izabela Cichecka, we are glad they omitted the auto-dial-your-kids-till-they...

Sort and Separate
2008-02-16 10:33:00
Lets face it. We all should be recycling. What used to be simple; “metal goes here, paper goes there, and plastic goes in over there,” is now a bit more complicated. For example did you know not all plastics and metals can be recycled? If you look for the recycling symbol on most packaging, it’s often filled with a number value. They denote what can and can’t be recycled. That’s where the Barcode Trashcan comes in. It makes being “green” a lot easier. There’s one bin for each type of recyclable material. Just swipe the item in question over the top and the bin that opens is your winner. Easy breezy covergirl for real!Designer: Woo Seok ParkSource: yankodesign.com

RetroVision

Everything old is new again, especially when it comes to these very retro inspired sunglasses. Where normally tinted UV blocking lenses would cut the glare of the sun, these “Reed Screen Sunglasses” by Sang Jang Lee use the ancient eastern practice of reed screens to block the sun’s blinding glare. In case you are in the dark about reed screens, they are those roll up window blinds made of peeled reed stems. With pop out screens in various shades of shade and vibrant frames to match, these spectacles are quite the spectacle.Designer: Sang Jang LeeSource: yankodesign.com
Strapya Mini Solar Cell Phone Charger makes going green chic
2008-02-14 14:48:00
The greenies among us will love this: the Strapya mini solar cell phone charger! Smaller than an iPod, this device only needs to drink up 6-10 hours of sunlight and then it serves as a completely dependable backup power source for your cell phone. The mini solar charger hooks up to your phone via an adapter and offers up to 3 hours of energy on the go. Such a useful, environmentally friendly device sounds like it might be expensive, but at just 1,900 yen ($17.54) this is probably one of the cheapest ways to help save the planet we've seen in some time.Source: dvice.com

Training Wheels For Your Drill
2008-02-14 14:29:00
People who aren’t familiar withpower drills may now have a chance to give it a go, provided they’re not embarrassed to be seen using a training wheel-like device called the SmartGuide. The first common mistake newbies make is not enough pressure thus leaving the drill but to wander all over before hitting its mark. The SmartGuide makes use of two interset rings that collapse in on each other - keeping your drill bit straight and on the narrow.Designer: Bongkun ShinSource: yankodesign.com

Better View Curtain
2008-02-14 14:24:00
Better View is is a series of perforated black out roller blinds designed by Finnish designer Elina Aalto of Fiasko Design. Light seeps in through the small cut out holes creating an image of a city by night. The cut-outs represent the light in the windows of apartment buildings and office complexes in the city. With the Better View blind any dreary view can be turned into an attractive cityscape. The series currently includes views from Helsinki and Tokyo. New additions portraying Stockholm and Paris are in progress. The images represent a selection of cities that Elina has traveled to in the last few years and the photographs are by her. The chosen views are of contrasting cityscapes: skyscrapers in Tokyo, 60s modernism in Helsinki and 19th century architecture in Paris. Each piece is custom made by hand. This curtain design is part of SAUMA , a traveling exhibition created by the Finnish Cultural Institute in New York.-Source: freshome.com
Kinetic Cell Phone
2008-02-14 14:22:00
The Atlas Kinetic Cell Phone concept focuses on greener technologies without sacrificing design. It’s all made of aluminum and glass. The central sapphire glass reveals the generating and charging unit. Power comes from kinetic energy similar to that found in watches that use oscillating weight to power a mainspring. The phone only contains basic features. None of that fancy multi-media stuff. If power runs out because it was sitting still for too long, just give it a few upside down turns to get the kinetic rotors going again. Now you’ll never have to worry about batteries.Designer: Ricardo BaiaoSource: yankodesign.com

Collapsible Surfboard
2008-02-14 14:20:00
As apartments and cars become increasingly compact, that surfboard you never seem to find the time to use just takes up more and more space. Nicholas Notara has decided to devote some time to the problem and has created the collapsible surfboard. This carbon-fiber board has been carefully designed to maintain the balance and weight of its traditional counterpart, but with the help of two pins and a quick release lever can halve in size. A hot-swappable fin system completes the board with style and presents a viable concept that may make a surfboard purchase not such a bad idea.Designer: Nicholas NotaraSource: yankodesign.com
Casual Corners
2008-02-14 14:09:00
Space savings and low visual impact is what’s for dinner with the “Kitchenette” dining table and chair set by designer Marta Antoszkiewicz. By repositioning the seating area to the rounded corners of the table, the designer has managed to neatly wrap the chairs around the soft square table design, making a solid block effect. This effect is successful in minimizing the visual impact, therefore making a space feel larger. Intended for urban living, this table set features removable cushions for easy cleaning, hot & cold pads for serving and hand pulls for easy access.Designer: Marta AntoszkiewiczSource: yankodesign.com

Kim Kardashian’s Cleavage Elevates Her Grade
2008-02-14 13:56:00
Kim Kardashian has been doing what any good pseudo-celebrity should be doing: show up at events, and show off the goods (the goods being that infamous booty and/or super cleavage of hers). For that, she gets an A+. Showing up at said events with a useless boyfriend in tow who ruins pictures
that definitely merits an –F. Kim gets a passing grade this time, thanks to her super cleavage, but if she wants to continue to be on our honour roll, she should ditch the dude.Source: popoholic.com

The Aquarian Gospel: Mallika Sherawat's another Hollywood film
2008-02-14 12:44:00
Bollywood siren, Mallika Sherawat, who earlier acted in an international production, The Myth, alongside Jackie Chan will now star in an American film called The Aquarian Gospel .The film is based on Jesus Christ's life (especially his early years) and will be directed by Australian filmmaker, Drew Heriot, who earlier directed the smash hit docu-feature, The Secret. There has been a belief that Christ, between the age of 13 yrs and 30 yrs, traveled through India, Tibet, Persia, Greece and Egypt. Mallika would be playing the role of Saraswati, one of Yeshua's (Jesus) loyal friends whom he meets while he travels through India.Interestingly, Mallika even played an Indian princess from the period era in The Myth which bombed at the box-office. In fact, Mallika's appearance after all the hue-and- cry was just a blink and a miss kind of a role.Well, let's see if Madame Sherawat has a better and bigger role this time around.

Water has never looked so good. When water bottlers Fine Japon decided to offer up a new bottle design, they recruited one of the heavy hitters of industrial design and packaging, Karim Rashid. Impressed by his work with luxury designer fragrance brands like Issey Miyake, Kenzo and Prada, Fine Japon was set on creating an inspired marriage of design, functionality and product. After two years of collaboration, they have finally launched their limited edition final bottle design. Evoking sensual pushbuttons with a sexually ambiguous phallic silhouette, this ergonomic bottle is easily more alluring than Voss Water’s glass tube baton.Designer: Karim RashidSource: yankodesign.com
World's tallest arch bridge being built in Dubai next month
2008-02-12 10:52:00
Dubai plans to build the world's longest arch bridge at a cost of 3 billion dirhams ($816.9 million), the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said on Tuesday (29/Jan/2008).The RTA said it would take four years to construct the mega-bridge, which will measure 1,600 metres with an arch 205 metres high and 667 metres long. Once complete the bridge will overtake the Lupu Bridge in Shanghai as the longest in the world. The Lupu measures 3,900 metres with an arch span of 550 metres. The span is the most common way to rank arch bridges, so if one bridge has a longer span than another it does not mean the bridge is longer from shore to shore or anchorage to anchorage. The bridge connects the Bur Dubai and Deira areas of the city and will be the sixth creek crossing. Currently the five Dubai Creek crossings are Al Shindagha Tunnel, Al Maktoum Bridge, the Floating Bridge, Al Garhoud Bridge and Business Bay Crossing. At 64 metres wide, the bridge will accommodate 12 lanes of traffic and a metro...

SMS And Email Pen
2008-02-12 10:39:00
D:Scribeis a digital fountain pen that allows users to send SMS and email messages from paper. Just write out the message and circle the person’s name to send. This does away with a keypad and allows you to focus on communicating in a more personal way from anywhere as long as you have a bluetooth enabled phone and a surface to write on. The pen also records everything you write which can be accessed on a computer. Of course for the creative peeps, if writing doesn’t suit your fancy, the D:Scribe also works with genius and not so genius drawings of brilliance. The design is loosely based on a quill and inkwell where by the quill is the writing apparatus and the inkwell is an electromagnetic induction charger.Once a message is sent, the status is displayed on the built-in OLED screen. The designers have also expanded its capabilities beyond that of messaging. Should your home electronics and appliances be bluetooth enabled, you could potentially program the pen to input commands b...

Casulo: An Entire Apartment's Furniture in One Small Box
2008-02-12 10:35:00
It might not look like it, but inside this box, there's an armoire, a desk, a height-adjustable stool, two more stools, a six-shelf bookcase, and a bed with a mattress. Casulo, the brilliant, modular setup designed by Marcel Krings & Sebastian MĂŒhlhĂ€user, hides furnishings enough for an entire room -- or, heck, an entire apartment -- in a small 31"x47" (that's 80 cm x 120 cm) box. Two people can lift, carry, and assemble (and then disassemble, when it's time to move) each piece of furniture within the Casulo in about 10 minutes -- it requires no tools for assembly -- and every part of the boxy exterior is used, negating any need for extraneous, wasteful packaging. Smart.Casulo won the "Abraham & David Roentgen Award" in November 2007 for its "cleverness, finesse and qualitative realisation of the idea" and we think it's quite well-deserved; what a perfect solution for frequent movers and small space dwellers alike. Space Age Seating Roller Coaster Style
2008-02-12 10:23:00
Hankering for that roller coaster ride feeling? Live vicariously thru the 4NE1 (get it?) seating solution. These chairs are suspended from the roof of a vehicle. This reconfiguration increases the amount of interior space. The design was created with the elderly and physically impaired in mind but as its name suggests, anyone can use it. The design has excellent properties for impact absorption in both front and rear impacts. The safety system is further augmented by an anti-whiplash backrest that comes forward upon impact. Best part it the stowaway feature - neatly sliding up and down roof rails or folding up when you need to seat more cargo than people.A review of current products that cater to this demographic has revealed that although there are systems in place to accommodate wheelchairs within vehicles, many of these systems do not use space efficiently, are not cost effective, lack configurability and are often created with the removal and replacement of original seating.This...
