2008-02-29 03:21:00 For all of the political agenda B'dos Free Press may fling here and there every now and again, they do have some intriguing stories of true newsworthy attention, but then again, some areas within the mainstream media are under direct orders not to acknowledge this side of the world, no matter how juicy the story - here are some good BFP examples that are not touched completely yet...The items about implying a racket is on for foreigners who relax here only to find a ransacked home when they return or the spin on the latest tourist crimes which both the Tourism Authority and the Hotel and Tourism Association want downplayed?Rather than downplay it, perhaps they should hold off until the perps are caught and then highlight the fact the idiots are in Dodds avoiding to drop bars of soap, since it's usually the business community, friends and family of the RBPF or visitors who are most likely to get swift yet mostly accurate justice. Why am I talking all of this? WHAT SHOULD BARBADIANS DO IF THERE IS AN AFTERSHOCK? CHECK SNOPES 1st
2007-12-07 01:49:00 Barbadians probably never thought we'd be reading up on earthquakes, but perhaps it is something we should know but verify it with myth-busters Snopes -dot-Com; especially as there is a particular e-mail now making the rounds... The information in this article will save lives in an earthquake. The first building I ever crawled inside of was a school in Mexico City during the 1985 earthquake. Every child was under their desk. Every child was crushed to the thickness of their bones. They could have survived by lying down next to their desks in the aisles. It was obscene, unnecessary and I wondered why the children were not in the aisles. I didn't at the time know that the children were told to hide under so... More About: Check , Aftershock , Adia
St Kitts touts Continued Success of Sports Tourism
2007-12-07 01:00:00 The year 2007 will go down in history as the most successful for sports tourism in St. Kitts and Nevis with a total of 1,797 athletes from 31 groups and a number of officials visiting the twin-island Federation. With the CARIFTA Games slated for next March and two One-Day Internationals between the Australian and West Indies cricket teams in July, government is continuing to work hard to match and possibly surpass the 2007 figures. Minister of State responsible for Tourism , Sports and Culture the Hon. Richard Skerritt told SKNIS that the quality of the sporting facilities coupled with the beauty of the destination and the highly rated accommodations is a formula that is yielding successful results. “It’s good news because it is one of the things that this government has been striving to do [by] building a sports tourism infrastructure and getting into the market in a serious way,” he said. “The results are coming. Private Beach on Barbadian West Coast? According to online edition of Count
More articles from this author:2007-12-06 12:09:00 Gabby wrote a song about the possibility of limiting access to beaches that was a hit back in 1982 and the refrain was "Dah beach is mine, Ah could bathe anytime!" Huh, that was then and this is NOW, buddy! You visit the Brit website, Country Life? Milord and Colina Del Mar, in Fitts Village near St James, are both in a very desirable area just 3 miles from Holetown and its restaurants and shops, but their most appealing characteristic is its private beachfront access. Space on the beach in this area in Barbados comes at a premium, and this property is certainly set to be popular with those looking for a holiday home, or a primary residence in the Caribbean. I understand why many UK folk want to come here, but I could have sworn Barbadian beaches are public, then again that is just me - I don't know. Somewhere along the way, I think, both Jack and Gabby must be in a rumshop with the Biblical Esau, comparing messes of pottage - is this right? What can be done?
