They came, They Heard, They Blogged - BBC LiveFive with Barbadian & Tri
2007-03-20 02:35:00 Well, I had my 15 seconds fame with the BBC tonight... I was worked into a frazzle originally for Saturday night, had called to reconfirm - only to learn they meant Monday after the WI vs Zimbabwe match!Re-geared the engines over Sunday night (what a pain, no karaoke nor partying for the usual weekend chaos, bummer) and waited the whole day for 9:15 pm to drop in like some ninja version of Cinderella... What did I do in between? Research!I learned how 37 is a key number in the West Indies tour of duty so far - Lara is 37, and Lara was out on 37 in their first victory as Pakistan too played the 37 game when Mohammed Yousuf was caught by Denesh Ramdin and bowled by Dwayne Smith for the same 37... Leading to some folk wanting to play that number in the lotteries here! I became very educated on this sport of glorious uncertainties...I also learned how a guy wore a Santa hat as it felt like Christmas since it had been so long since the Windies played this way; India made history in Trini... 2007-03-19 21:55:00 Remember when Michael Winner was vowing he'd rather die than lose his leg? He was blaming the hospital and everything else but the actual condition, well, three well-known online gossip rags have his disclosure minus his apology - This is what Tittle-Tattle had to say...."[The Direct or of Death Wish ] narrowly escaped death after beating a rare disease he caught from eating an oyster. Winner contracted Vibrio vulnificus - a virus that lives in warm water and is transmitted through swimming with open wounds or by eating shellfish..."Female First in the UK also carried the release -"The bug commonly kills people within 32 hours of infection, but the 72-year-old cheated death by jetting back to a private clinic in London and undergoing a gruelling 10 week series of eleven operations that cost him a staggering $1.45 million."Believe it or not, there is a website which is called Jewtastic and this too had the same info on Winner's oh-so-memorable vacation in Barbados -"“I started shak... Pakistan licked out of CWC 2007: Coach found in Hotel Room, dies today!
2007-03-18 21:23:00 Well, be careful of what you want, you may very well get it! Subsequent to being defeated by Ireland at Sabina Park on St Patrick's Day 2007, Pakistan no longer have any chance of qualification for the Super 8 stage of the ICC Cricket World Cup, as the team all came under fire after the humiliating loss to Ireland there is a fatality before the return home... As you'll recall, the boys from the Emerald Isle are sitting on three points after their nail-biting tie with Zimbabwe on Thursday March 15 netted them a single point to add to the two points they collected in their St. Patrick’s Day triumph, placing them at the top of Group "D."Now, Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer has died in hospital today after being found unconscious in his hotel room. In a Breaking News alert from CNN, it said how the 58 year-old coach watched his team crash out of the World Cup on Saturday after that unexpected Group "D" defeat by Ireland at Sabina Park. 2007-03-16 05:02:00 The India n journalist who is a Melbourne editor, yup, the one who pulled a fast one on a former Tourism Authority exec to send a story by any means, now is getting into fantasy tales using the Caribbean as a base...In his latest yarn, since it seems he is stuck here in Barbados until the Super 8's and is too broke to go to the other islands, he's now decided to do like DC comics and create an Elsewhen tale - he looks to explore the possibility of Mac Fingall's 2009 arriving two years early should Delhi pull off a victory at the final here at the Mecca... He's even doing ambush marketing by using the wrong soft drink and wrong rum to celebrate the ICC event -In the absence of colors, bottles of Banks beer and Mount Gay rum together with cans of Coke and Pepsi did the needful. The first step was to gulp down as much as you could and the second was to pour the rest on oneself in celebration. BREAKING NEWS/GREAT STUFF FOR BARBADIANS - ICC RELENTS: BOTTLED WATER ALLOW
2007-03-15 09:14:00 Perhaps we may yet see a conch shell blowing at a match? It seems the CWC Security Directorate and the ICC have relaxed their draconian dicta on bottled water, this can now be brought into match venues, with immediate effect. This is to make sure that people don't fall and faint! However, they're taking off the bottle tops as you enter a match venue. Apparently the decision decision was taken with “security and medical considerations in mind and with a view to making sure fans have access to as much water as possible while enjoying the cricket in the Caribbean’s tropical environs. Water will not be permitted in any other types of containers and no liquid other than water will be allowed in plastic bottles. “This is strictly a health matter and not a question of CWC’s safety and security policies being relaxed. {Editor's Note: YEEEAH, RIIIIGHT!!!!} We have been monitoring the weather forecasts throughout the region and the temperatures ... Bananas skin up the Earthrace? Follow-Up!
2007-03-14 21:20:00 It seems when the Earth race left Barbados bright and early at 7:00 am on 10-3-2007, they may have offended the sea gods, at least that's according to their skipper, who pinned his propeller's break to the wrong fruit on board...-- bananas have been bad luck on shipboard since the days when most boats were powered by sail. That was because bananas give off gases that cause other fruit to ripen and become overripe more quickly - a potential disaster in the days when sailors depended on fruit to prevent scurvy. Bethune said that the person who brought the bananas on board the Earthrace was a landlubber, a passenger who paid to join the first leg of the race.Apparently, the guest's ignorance is what saved him from being keelhauled; JK-JK-JK {just kidding}!Despite the setback as he limps towards Panama, he still is hoping to beat the record of 75 days as the previous record holder did in 1998.**U P D A T E**Earthrace made it to Panama; a distance of just under 1300 nautical miles in ... Barbadian Political Strategist thinks he can snatch victory from the jaws o
2007-03-14 19:42:00 Hartley Henry now getting his name called correctly over in Bermuda is still spinning for the opposition UBP but it's kind of like Linus with the Great Pumpkin in Peanuts, despite his knowing and everyone else fully aware that the UBP's chances are rather slender for winning Bermuda's next elections - he still hangs around in the pumpkin-patch known as Hamilton hoping against hope.He said the next election would be a referendum on whether the ruling PLP "has achieved what it set out to achieve."Mr. Henry has been advising the UBP for the last year. Looking south for advice from political strategist is a first for the UBP, which looked to the U.S. for help during its 30 years as the ruling party. He was willing to be interviewed by the Bermuda Sun after an anonymous letter leaked to the newspaper spoke of what it said were three election losses in the Caribbean for Mr. Henry's clients, most recently in Turks and Caicos. Mr. Henry said he was not a campaign consultant for the ... More About: Victory , Political , Politica , Snatch , Think

Plans to close Broad Street again? Thought it was free-flow for CWC 2007?
2007-03-13 19:36:00 Merchants from Broad Street want to close Broad Street to try and cash in on the CWC 2007 spectators leaving Super 8 matches - how does this reconcile with the Local Organising Committee (LOC) wishing to ensure that traffic remains flowing freely during the Cup?The LOC with the Chamber of Commerce held a Town Hall for the business community of Bridgetown on Monday 12th March at the Ideal Restaurant. This is where Francine Charles, the Marketing and Corporate Communications Manager of the LOC pledged that traffic would be effectively managed to ensure a free flow - which contradicted the wishes of the merchants... There was a subsequent promise from Ruall C. Harris, the Director of the Chamber "to investigate the possibilities" of such a move...Ms Charles added the only time that traffic could be affected is if Police needed to close a road for security purposes, but she would not elaborate!I wonder if the business community of the City realise that all one-ways run in Bridgetown pro... BREAKING NEWS: Jamaica's LOC ranks dissent and Dehring gets Vex!
2007-03-10 17:41:00 Chris Dehring has already smelled mutiny in his own backyard and is looking to quell it before the big rush for the opening at Sabina Park in less than 24 hours...
