Skulls. Black cats. A naked woman riding a killer whale. Snakes. Swords. Occult symbols. A wizard with a staff that shoots lightning bolts. A dragon holding the Earth in its claws. No, this is not the fantasy world of a 12-year-old boy. It is ... part of the hidden reality behind the Pentagon’s classified, or “black,” budget that delivers billions of dollars to stealthy armies of high-tech warriors.[A new] book offers a glimpse of this dark world through a revealing lens — patches — the kind worn on military uniforms.Trevor Paglen, an artist and photographer finishing his Ph.D. in geography at the University of California, Berkeley, has managed to document some of this hidden world. The 75 patches he has assembled reveal a bizarre mix of high and low culture.“Oderint Dum Metuant,” reads a patch for an Air Force program that mines spy satellite images for battlefield intelligence, according to Mr. Paglen, who identifies he saying as from Caligula, the first-cent...

EDWARDS PRAISES COLLYMORE FOR SOUND ADVICE GOING INTO 2ND DIGICEL TEST
2008-04-04 03:37:00
Fast bowler Fidel Edwards who picked up the first three Sri Lankan wickets on a severely rain affected first day of the Second Digicel Test said that he must give credit to his half-brother Corey Collymore - a fellow Barbadian and the West Indies seam bowler who is not currently in the squad. "I got a bit more focussed, Corey has been telling me that I need to be a bit more patient on this (Queen's Park Oval) wicket and let the ball do the talking," Edwards told journalists after the end of the day's play when Sri Lanka finished on 217 for 5 after recovering from 117 for 5. Edwards picked up the first three wickets to fall and then fellow fast bowler Jerome Taylor grabbed two more to put the visitors in trouble but a sixth wicket stand of 100 between Tillakaratne Dilshan and Chamara Silva brought Sri Lanka back into the game on a day when 43.3 overs were lost due to rain interruptions. Dilshan is not out on 57 while Silva, who replaced injured wicketkeeper Prasana Jayaw...

SRI LANKA LOOKING FOR CLEAN SWEEP OF DIGICEL TEST SERIES
2008-04-03 04:07:00
Former world record holder for the most Test wickets Lance Gibbs is of the view that rookie West Indian spinner Sulieman Benn has got to add variety to his bowling armoury in order to be successful at the international level."He has got to bowl six different balls because on that type of track (Providence in Guyana) batsman could get accustomed to you," Gibbs said while endorsing the inclusion of the 26 year old left arm spinner in the West Indies squad after he made his debut in the First Digicel Test against Sri Lanka in Guyana and was retained in the squad for the Second Digicel Test in Trinidad and Tobago."I would say he has got the ability but he's got work to do, he could become a success story but it is all in his hands, he's got to learn the strengths and weaknesses as far as batsmen are concerned and use that effectively," Gibbs said in an exclusive interview with DigicelCricket.com."In Guyana (during the First Digicel Test) Benn fought the wicket too much, as a spinner y...

Review: "Is obsession required to experience the ultimate in sexual fulfillment? Dickey searches for the answer to that question in his latest steamy romance (after Waking with Enemies) via Nia Simone Bijoux, a ghostwriter recently moved to Atlanta. A devout Anas Nin fan, Nia's in hot pursuit of the perfect lay. Enlivened by sometimes catchy narration ('Self-pleasuring was popcorn.... My body was telling me it needed steak'), Nia's adventures with 'identical sins,' twins Mark and Karl, introduce her to the dubious delights of threesomes and more, leading eventually to a showdown with Mark's wife, Jewell Stewark, a TV anchorwoman. Marred somewhat by Nia's pretentious airs (her self-involvement can be crippling to the narrative), this erotic potboiler still delivers its message that saying 'yes' to pleasure can also lead to self-enlightenment." Publishers Weekly (Copyright Reed Business Information, Inc.) Synopsis: Filled with sexual energy, "Pleasure" centers a...

SNAPPING A SHUTTERBUG RED-HANDED: GRAND CANYON PHOTOGRAPHER {Betty Holford
2008-04-03 01:56:00
Betty Holford has contributed many times to my News-Blog, whether crystals or baby deer, etc. I never fail to receive an e-mail from her that always makes me THINK...This time, like most other occasions I put the incident under the SNOPES microscope and also another via Google, this is a site called Truth Or Fiction.Even so for the REAL deal, check the links, for those fascinated with the TRUE pictures and the apocryphal anecdote going along with it? ENJOY!This is a case of a photographer photographing another photographer. The following pictures were taken by Hans van de Vorst from the Netherlands at the Grand Canyon , Arizona. The descriptions are his own. The identity of the photographer in the photos is unknown.I was simply stunned seeing this guy standing on this solitary rock in the Grand Canyon. The canyon's depth is 900 meters here. The rock on the right is next to the canyon and safe. Watching this...

What do Barack Obama and David Kirton have in common? Time for Change (Remi
2008-04-03 01:32:00
Time for Change has become a Universal movement, a rally cry for people who desire a new direction for the world and their lives. David Kirton's album and song titled 'Time for Change' is in tune with the worlds pulse. This video remix of the 'Time for Change' music video features Barack Obama , his words and strength. For many, Barack Obama symbolises positive Change, not only for the United States but for the Caribbean and rest of the world. Kirton has a long history of protest songs starting with his debut albums title track 'Stranger', (Hiding in the bush)"Smiling faces can be so deceiving you never really know what the mind is thinking. Smiling faces show no traces of the deepest secrets that lie with in, with in the hearts of man."Modern Roots, Kirton's second album hit even harder with track 4, 'To Know Jah' - "Your speech sounds so good on the radio, you smile so brightly on my TV, but when its time to deliver on all those promises, all we get is a bag of excuses."K...

Barbadian Artist sings virtues of 'pit bull' puppy - needs home real bad!
2008-04-01 02:40:00
Got a note from one of the sweetest people in Barbados, Corrie Scott - she is a shutterbug par excellence and artist nonpareil, she has a bittersweet tail... Ahem - TALE, of a type of dog some folk may fear rather needlessly... Here goes -[This is] an adorable pit bull (we think almost 100% if not all pit bull) puppy, about 3/4 months old. It was found by Donna and she has nurtured back to life what was a bag of bones. Most of you know I have an ardent love and admiration for this much maligned breed. They are the most loving and wonderful temperament if brought up in a normal house. My babe Clio whom many of you see on the road with me is a testament to how pit bulls really are if brought up in a loving home. In fact my pit bull has the shameful reputation of having been attacked by a cat who was eating her food! And then one day at my studio in the garden she was chased by a chicken who had her chicks with her. A most hilarious sight, seeing a breed of dog that has this fearsom...

2008-04-01 00:33:00
Danger Zone's Journey's Riddim has now been officially released and like the pre-released version, which was premiered in the last quarter of 2007, the riddim has attracted support from a wide cross section of the music fraternity and been hailed as one of the best riddims presently on the airwaves. Danger Zone has added some tantalizing instrumentals to the pre-released version and the final product can only be described as immaculate. The Journey's Riddim was produced by Della Danger, Ce'Cile and Jigsy King of Danger Zone Records. Danger Zone artistes have five songs on the production: Cutty Corn returns with Poochie Loo, Jigsy King and Tony Curtis team up again to present Show Off, Ce'Cile and Jigsy King Plant It, Jah Cure continues his musical Journey and Ce'Cile pledges to Ride or Die. All five tracks boast the high quality and superb production that Danger Zone has become known for. With Journey, Jah Cure continues to impress with his amazing vocal capab...

It was here the first years of his life that he became educated that the foundations of his brilliant career were laid and we are looking to find a way to put that in a documentary. So we are here exploring the island, looking for scenes that would reveal what Hamilton’s life in Nevis was like. It will be filmed next year and maybe s...

2008-03-29 23:34:00
The sporting facilities being constructed by St Kitts' Ministry of Sports around the main island will raise the chances of the twin-island federation being successful in the sports tourism sub-sector. This is the firm belief of Donald Lockerbie, President of OLYMPVS INTERNATIONAL LLC - a worldwide sports facility and operations consulting firm, based in North Carolina (USA), Barbados and Switzerland. Lockerbie, who served as Venue Development Director for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007, is highly respected in international circles and is considered to be the pre-eminent planner of many of the United States’ most acclaimed football and track and field facilities. He became familiar with St. Kitts and Nevis during his CWC duties, as the refurbished Warner Park served as the venue for first round matches for four teams including world champions Australia as well South Africa. MARK KENNY: BRINGING AUTHENTIC JAMAICAN TALENT TO THE MASSES
2008-03-29 14:06:00
The phenomena of Rising Stars and Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall have created a level of enthusiasm and an anticipation rarely seen in the history of television talent shows in Jamaica. Many do not know who the brainchild of these two massively popular shows is and even more interestingly, that he is not a native Jamaican . Born in Dublin Ireland, Mark Kenny has been an ardent fan of Jamaican music and culture since the 1970s. The professionally trained pianist became a convert to reggae after listening to the group 'Culture' who are credited with influencing the development of Punk Rock music in the 1970s. Kenny has developed a sophisticated appreciation of Jamaica's music and culture which is manifested in his work with Digicel Rising Stars and Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall. Kenny began his television career in 1990 as a producer with Animedia, one of Ireland's largest animation companies at the time. He excelled and went on to produce one of Irelan...

After virtually securing all the records at the Guyana National Stadium during the First Digicel Test match when the stadium became the 97th Test venue in the world, Sri Lanka now moves to take on West Indies in the Second and Final Digicel Test at the Queen’s Park Oval in neighbouring Trinidad and Tobago. The two teams have never played a Test match against each other in Trinidad so numerous records are up for grabs. The five Test matches Sri Lanka played in the Caribbean were in Guyana, Antigua, St Vincent, St Lucia and Jamaica. Their victory in the First Digicel Test at the Guyana National Stadium was their first Test win in this part of the world. Malinda Warnapura and captain Mahela Jayawardene who both scored centuries in Guyana were the second and third Sri Lankan batsmen to score triple figures in the West Indies following Marvan Atapattu's 118 in St Lucia in 2003. And Warnapura is the second Sri Lankan batsman, again following Atapattu, to score a century and a half ...

2008-03-29 11:20:00
Crop Over is soon here, and I was looking at PAHO's newsletter about vehicular mishaps and although it referred to the Caribbean, the closest they got was by Costa Rica, the story primarily dealt with South American territories and the horrors they cause long after the wreckage is hauled away!Yet I could not help but recall the bus and van tragedies that surrounded Kadooment and Emancipation last year, I am sure there were other terrible accidents in the rest of the region, but naturally the Bajan events are the ones we're very familiar with, so for a few moments I am going to look at both last year and see how it melds with what PAHO is worried about -In October 2006, a group of high school students from Buenos Aires were returning from a field trip to a rural school, where they had met and shared experiences with students from very different, less privileged backgrounds. On a highway in the province of Santa Fé, a truck collided head-on with their van. Nine of the students,...

FUEL SURCHARGE CONTROL TO BE IMPLEMENTED IN SKN: RETROACTIVE FROM START OF
2008-03-12 13:23:00
The Kittitian Government is regulating the fuel surcharge paid on electricity bills, retroactive from January 2008. The announcement made by the SKN's Minister of Finance, and Hon. Prime Minister, Dr. Denzil L. Douglas in his Budget Address, stated that the fuel surcharge of householders can no longer be more than 50% of the current (primary) charge. This policy change was in direct response to consumers’ requests that there be controls placed on the surcharge. The necessary software to ensure a smooth transition has been acquired, installed, and is being test run. Even if there are slight delays in the mailing of any bills as a result of the new system, all customers will still have their surcharge controlled effective January 15 th, which reflects the start date of the 2008 billing cycle. Both the Technology and Electricity Departments have teamed up to make certain that the new system is fully implemented. The new control on the fuel surcharge is in additi...

MOVEMENT by the Jamaica-based group ROOTZ UNDERGROUND released on Riverstone Records/Mystic Urchin was released in the US last week through Ryko on the Mystic Urchin imprint. The group made a West Coast mini-tour recently hitting the 27th Annual Ragga Muffins Festival at the Long Beach Arena where the met up with several DJ's and VJ's for interviews at the festival press conference. The fan response was notable and they were able to get a chance to meet and greet at a booth in the arena hosted by the Jamaican Tourist Board. In advance of the festival, the group has had some early believers on the West Coast including Indie 103.1 FM's Native Wayne Jobson who had this to say: "One of the best bands to come out of Jamaica in 10 years, they weld molten reggae into new shapes by soldering in some lava rock. 'Victims of the System' is as dangerous as it comes." The band spoke live on-air with Native Wayne by phone from Kingston, as well as with DJ Big Jim at KUCI-UC-I...

COMMONWEALTH DAY 2008: MESSAGE FROM 1st NON-ELECTED PRIME MINISTER OF THE
2008-03-12 11:38:00
This year’s Commonwealth Day theme is “The Environment Our Future” – it could not be more relevant – we all have to take urgent action today to guarantee tomorrow’s future. Commonwealth States share the same dilemma. We need to find a way to grow and develop our economies without destabilising the climate, and destroying the foundations that underpin our growth, stability and development. The only way out is, together, to build a low carbon global economy as soon as we can.I look forward to working further with my fellow Commonwealth Heads of Government over the coming months to help deliver our Action Plan and achieve these goals. In particular, I want to continue to develop a shared understanding of what climate change will mean for our economies and societies; to draw on Commonwealth networks, so that we can explore the economic, social, and health opportunities, particularly for developing countries, of a transition to low carbon...The Commonwealth brings together ...

There is a lot happening in terms of new articles between now and Sunday, I'm currently doing a LOT of research for many of the following items - more than I used to do at CBC, too! Plus a heavy day-job workload, Oy!Folks are just DYING to know what I thought of Clifton too - not only was I surprised, also narrowly escaped the mother of all hangovers and I learned a lot about the sport from many key umpires and players in that sport. I have been examining other polo websites overseas to verify, and the results are stunning! There are other avenues where local polo can accelerate their market growth without breaking their advertising budget, by setting a great example - see the photo? Where did that happen? Keep watching this space!Meanwhile - do you realise how many folks are now USED-TO-BE rappers? In fact, some kids these days may get shocked to learn some folk started out doing word rhymes about street-life... A lengthy feature is in the works...A popular gaming and munching esta...
