Sony Hints At New "Game Machine"
2009-02-24 07:28:00 Apparently Sony Japan is looking to hire someone to test out their new equipment that is likely a new handheld to follow in the steps of the PSP. PSP 2 gets serious Although it kind of makes sense, who would have thought of looking at a job listing in order to find out some new information about a gaming system? Right now, SCE Japan is on the hunt for someone to be an "evaluator/assessor."What will this person be doing? Testing out a new gaming system of some sort as well as getting to "be part of an advisory staff that will play PlayStation series software on this new machine and check its functionality." Not only that, but they will "test game machines not yet released or new functionality of PS3 peripherals before they are released."Enough about the job, what is it exactly that's being tested? While it isn't clear yet, Sony has stated that this test subject will be "part of the PlayStation or PSP series and their peripherals." A new PSP 4000 maybe? Or could it be a new handhel... 2009-02-23 06:54:00 Have any trouble renewing your Xbox Live Gold membership lately? Seen your account go into cardiac arrest and nearly follow along with the physiological variety when your achievements go toodle-oo? Deleted (PC World) -- Earlier this week, reports began percolating that a small number of Xbox Live accounts had been endangered by an email expiration gaffe. The result? Gamertags self-imploding and achievement lists dissipating into the digital ether.According to Gameindustry.biz, which broke the story, the problem has to do with the Windows Live ID email address interlink required to set up an Xbox Live Gold membership. You know, Windows Live, Microsoft 's online service suite. Not to be confused with Games For Windows Live, Microsoft's free subsidiary online gaming service. Free, that is, unlike Xbox Live Gold, which isn't.If the Windows Live ID you used to set up your account expires, even if you've got another email account on the books, Microsoft's system reportedly deletes th... ESRB Slips Details On Punch-Out Wii
2009-02-23 06:50:00 Ohh, ESRB, what a fine source of information you've become since you started running summaries for the games you rate. Punch Out Wii details leak. In this case, it means a nice long summary description of Punch-Out!! is now online, well ahead of any significant Nintendo advertising. While players can use standard boxing moves (jabs, hooks, uppercuts), most fights are performed in a comical fashion with an assortment of dizzy stars, cartoony sound effects, and slapstick signature moves (e.g., growling, dropping shorts, conking oneself on the head, twirling, etc.). Boxers' faces show lumps and bruises after taking damage, and some knockouts are depicted in slow motion as players are sent flying across the canvass. One character flexes his pectoral and glute muscles prior to a fight, while another boxer belches during a cutscene. There are cutscenes! With belching! Game of the Year 2009, people! Grand Theft Auto IV Gets "Lost And Damned"
2009-02-20 00:58:00 Take Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto IV too seriously and you'll probably miss most of what it's up to. (scroll down for more GTA IV: Lost & Damned Screenshots!) Take Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto IV too seriously and you'll probably miss most of what it's up to. It's a game, of course, but it's also a biting, unremitting satire. Juvenile-seeming to some, sure, with its lewd and frequently misogynist humor, but no less a scathing sendup of American culture when you strip the top layers away. It's a mirror, but one held up to our silly instead of our serious side. A parody of parodies. A bad-boy-burlesque. That it even offends other satirists (who take special pleasure in calling it sophomoric) simply proves its point. And now there's a sequel of sorts called "The Lost and Damned," or a parallel narrative expansion if you want to get technical about it. But with anywhere from 15 to 40 hours of play time for just 1600 Microsoft Points ($20) it packs more to-dos than you'll find i...

2009-02-19 08:25:00 We just heard some awesome news about E3 2009: At a panel discussion at DICE 2009, Sony Santa Monica's Patrick Murphy (Lead Character Artist for God of War III) mentioned that the PlayStation 3 action title God of War III will be playable at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo! God of War III playable at this years E3? It might happen. Although we can't say for sure, it seems likely to both Brian Leahy and I (he's on the floor at DICE) that the E3 God of War III demo will probably be the same one that fortunate members of the press saw recently.E3 2009 takes place June 2 - 4, 2009 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Sports Legends will be there with wall-to-wall coverage. Don't miss it.

2009-02-19 06:39:00 Nintendo's upgraded their uber-popular handheld in a big way. Here are some of our favorite things about Nintendo's new DSi! The DSi comes state-side this April. The Nintendo DSi is on the horizon, but the millions and millions of original DS and DS Lite owners may be asking themselves whether slapping $170 on the counter come April 5 for a new version of their favorite portable is necessary. The DSi is not just an excuse for Nintendo to make a quick buck; it's loaded with new features. If these five new fun additions don't have you trading in your old portable at GameStop, nothing will.1. Music! (click for a larger image) The DSi has a pretty snazzy audio player and recorder that has some bells and whistles your MP3 player probably doesn't. You can alter the pitch and speed (the latter of which makes lengthy podcasts a bit speedier), as well as add a bunch of neat effects like echoes, reverse play, instrumental only, and 8-bit tunes. You haven't heard "Any Way You Want It" ... More About: Nintendo , Features

Sega: Wii Is This Generation's PS2
2009-02-19 05:24:00 Former Nintendo rival is putting its money where its mouth is, releasing three high profile mature games in the first half of the year. (click for a larger image) When the Wii's sales began to outpace the PS2's, I said that it was good because it would inevitably lead to a wider variety of games. It looks like Sega agrees with me, and is taking one of the biggest third-party gambles we've seen in awhile, and for that exact reason."The Wii has become this generation's version of the PlayStation 2, reaching all parts of the market and selling tens of millions of units," [Sega President Simon Jeffery] says. This is Jeffery's rationale for why Sega is releasing three major hardcore Wii titles in 2009, with House of the Dead Overkill already on store shelves. The higher-profile MadWorld hits next month, and The Conduit in June. Now, you could argue Sega's probably banking on Mario &?Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games to soak up any losses that come from those three titles... or you ...

Ex-Ensemble Devs Form New Studio, Will Create Halo Wars DLC
2009-02-19 04:39:00 With Halo Wars complete and heading to stores soon, employees from its defunct developer will be forming a new studio called Robot Entertainment, which will be creating new content for the upcoming RTS. The guys behind the soon to be released Halo spinoff, Halo Wars, create a new studio. When Ensemble Studio s was putting the finishing touches on the upcoming Xbox 360 real time strategy game Halo Wars, many were shocked to find out that the developer, who had also been responsible for the Age of Empires series, would be closed upon completion of the project. Not only would many great developers be out of work, but one of the most important Xbox 360 titles would be without a developer for post-release content. Both of those fears were calmed today when the founders of Ensemble Studios announced the formation of Robot Entertainment, a studio comprised of many former Ensemble staffers. In a press release sent out by the company, Robot Entertainment confirmed its dedication to working wi... Bioshock Goes Mobile, Looks Awesome
2009-02-18 01:44:00 Developer Indiagames unveils a first-look at one of two versions of Bioshock they're releasing for mobile devices. Say hello to the little Big Daddy. Still scary on the small screen. At this year's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, indie developer Indiagames showed footage of their 3D mobile Bioshock game, that will be released concurrently with a 2D iteration. As seen in the below video, the mobile game looks to carry on the look of the original, and like other recent ports to mobile, Bioshock looks to maintain the same "essence" of the its console counterpart. Sean Malatesta of Indiagames had these words to say about the 2D version (not shown in the video):The 2D version, even when I first thought of it, I said 'how can you do a 2D version of BioShock ?' I'll tell you what: our guys and 2K have really captured the essence of the game in a 2D format. It's really unbelievable. Next Resident Evil Shambles Toward Wii
2009-02-18 01:03:00 "Watch this space," says Resident Evil 5 producer. Resident Evil 5 coming to Wii? Resident Evil 5 will be in stores about a month from now, which means the Capcom's main Resident Evil team is out of "make a game" mode and into "convince people to buy the game" mode. All kinds of interesting things get said during these pre-release barrages of interviews, and Eurogamer's recent interview with RE5 producer Masachika Kawata was no exception."Personally I would like to create something on Wii in the Resident Evil family," [Kawata] revealed. "At the moment we don't know and have just been working on RE5, so watch this space."To date, Resident Evil on Wii has mostly been a barrage of ports (RE4) and remakes (Umbrella Chronicles), excellent through they were. A new, Wii-specific Resident Evil game would go a long way toward apologizing to Wii owners who aren't too thrilled that they'll be stuck with a slightly sparse port of Dead Rising while the rest of the world is gearing up for h...

MTV Losing Money On 'Rock Band' Hardware
2009-02-17 02:57:00 It appears that Viacom, MTV, and Harmonix are losing money on every Rock Band bundle sold based on the cost of the game's peripherals. Ouch. MTV losing money from the Rock Band bundles. Thankfully, the game itself turns a profit for the company.
