Comic Book Review: Thor #7
2008-03-23 02:51:00
Thor continues to be a hit with The Revolution. JMS has found the perfect title for his writing talents and is giving us an enjoyable read each month. I?m looking forward to Marko Djurdevic?s art in this issue as well as what JMS has in store for us now that Thor has restored all of the Asgardians. Let?s go ahead and hit this review for Thor #7.Creative TeamWriter: J. Comic Book Review: Captain America #36
2008-03-22 18:18:00
I don?t know how much more I can praise Captain America . This title is the pride and joy of Marvel Comic s. Brubaker continues to amaze me with how consistently impressive he is with each and every issue. I am positive that we will get yet another strong read in Captain America #36.Creative TeamWriter: Ed BrubakerArtists: Butch Guice & Mike PerkinsArt Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 9 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 8.5 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with Captain America battling Sin and her Serpent Squad. Natasha tells Captain America that she is on her way to help him. Captain America responds that he doesn?t need her help. Natasha ignores...

Comic Book Review: Justice League of America #19
2008-03-21 18:36:00
The Revolution did enjoy the last issue of Justice League of America . However, this current story arc had better not turn out to be nothing more than an advertisement and jumping off point for Salvation Run. I?m getting tired of the JLA being reduced to nothing more than a jumping off point for stories to be delivered on titles outside of the JLA. Hopefully, Justice League of America #19 will prove to be a satisfying read. Let?s hit this review.Creative TeamWriter: Alan BurnettPencils: Ed BenesInks: Sandra Hope, Mariah Benes and Ruy JoseArt Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 6 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 7 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with the JLA prepping their space shuttle to blast off for the prison planet. Superman is pissed that Batman kept it a secret from everyone that he sent Martian Manhunter to the prison planet disguised as a villain. Superman c...

Comic Book Review: Countdown to Final Crisis #6
2008-03-21 03:14:00
I can see it. It is right there just beyond my reach. It is the end of Countdown. And it can?t come here soon enough. Last issue of Countdown was terrible. And I?m sure that Countdown #6 will be just as bad. However, there is no way that Countdown #6 could actually be worse than the last issue is there? Let?s hit this review and find out.Creative TeamWriters: Paul Dini, Adam Beechen & Keith GiffenPencils: Mike NortonInks: Jimmy PalmiottiArt Rating: 4 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 2 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 3 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: This issue is narrated by a Cadmus lab tech as if he were writing in his journal. We see Martian Manhunter being called in to verify that our heroes, now being called ?anomalies,? are who they claim to be. Eventually, Atom and Dubblix decide to remove the Morticcocus virus from Karate Kid?s body in order to isolate it and try and fashion a cure.We cut to a news report about a man who suddenly became like a rabid animal and atta...

Comic Book Review: Project Super Powers #1
2008-03-20 03:08:00
The Revolution absolutely loved Project Super Powers #0. Krueger and Ross delivered a read that was beyond my expectations. I am a sucker for Golden Age characters and where The Twelve has disappointed me, Project Super Powers has impressed me. There is no doubt in my mind that Krueger is doing to dish out another strong read with Project Super Powers #1. Let?s do this review.Creative TeamPlot/Script: Jim KruegerPlot/Art Direction: Alex RossArt: Carlos PaulArt Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 9 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 8.5 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with Dynamic Man staring down on a gleaming city. Weekly Awards For The Comic Books From March 12, 2008
2008-03-19 13:38:00
Let?s go ahead and dish out The Revolution?s weekly awards. The nominees for the Che for the best read of the week:Booster Gold #7Fantastic Four #555Nova #11X-Factor #29The Winner: X-Factor #29Booster Gold #7 was another good read. Johns and Katz are tacos in the bank on this title. I would certainly recommend this title since it is a consistently good read and offers a good balance of action and plot heavy drama.Fantastic Four #555 really got me excited about Millar?s run on this title. It seems that Millar might just get me hooked on the Fantastic Four for the first time since I started reading comic books.Nova #11 was another good issue. I really should post a review or two for this title. Nova really is a quality read that delivers the goods every month. DnA are doing a wonderful job on this title and have impressed me with their work. And that is saying much since I had never been all that impressed with DnA?s work up until Nova. However, I always keep an open mind and I?m glad ...

Comic Book Commentary: Justice League
2008-03-18 02:25:00
Newsarama posted a little article about the new Justice League title by James Robinson that was announced over the weekend at Wizard World: Los Angeles. It appears that we are getting a more aggressive strike force styled version of the JLA. Robinson?s philosophy is that since the word ?justice? is in the JLA?s name that they should be in the business of bringing criminals to justice rather than sitting around and being attacked or stopping a crime in progress.Evidently, a character gets killed during Final Crisis and Hal Jordan is pissed off and wants the JLA to go exact some justice against the murdering villain. The JLA wants to take a more cautious route and that causes a schism. So, this all leads Hal Jordan to team up with his old compatriot Green Arrow and they go on to form their version of the Justice League.Robinson revealed that the roster will include Hal Jordan, Green Arrow, Ray Palmer, Supergirl, Batwoman, Freddy Freeman and Mikaal Tomas and Congorilla. Yeah, that?s ri...

Comic Book Review: Fantastic Four #555
2008-03-17 22:45:00
The Revolution was extremely excited for Mark Millar?s debut issue on the Fantastic Four . Now, I will admit up front that I have simply never been much of a fan of the Fantastic Four. I have tried it off and on in the past and it has failed to hook me each and every time. However, I enjoy much of what Millar cranks out so I decided to make this leap into the waters of the Fantastic Four once again.I have to admit that I was rather unimpressed with Millar?s debut issue on this title. It wasn?t bad, but I didn?t find it particularly interesting either. It was kind of like eating rice cakes. It won?t make you gag, but you can?t say that you are dying to eat them again. Having said that, I still have faith that Millar will make Fantastic Four an entertaining read. Let?s go ahead and do this review for Fantastic Four #555.Creative TeamWriter: Mark MillarPencils: Bryan HitchInks: Bryan Hitch & Paul NearyArt Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10.Story Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10.Overall ...

Comic Book Review: Mighty Avengers #10
2008-03-17 13:46:00
The Revolution was absolutely stunned and shocked that Bendis delivered such an entertaining read with the last issue of Mighty Avengers. I couldn?t believe that we got an issue that actually moved along at a quick pace, progressed a major plotline, gave us plenty of action and ended the issue with a bona fide hook ending that got me excited for the next issue. For a minute I thought maybe Bendis had gotten replaced as the writer on Mighty Avengers. I can only hope that Bendis keeps this ball rolling and delivers back to back entertaining reads on Mighty Avengers. Let?s go ahead and crank out this review for Mighty Avengers #10.Creative TeamWriter: Brain Michael BendisPencils: Mark BagleyInks: Danny MikiArt Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 7 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 7.5 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with Sentry waking up in an alley completely disoriented and wondering where he is. Comic Book Review: Green Lantern Corps #22
2008-03-15 18:55:00
Green Lantern Corps is a title that is fighting to earn a permanent spot on The Revolution?s pull sheet. I gave this title a try during the Sinestro War. Since I dig the Green Lantern universe so much and am looking forward to all the big events that Johns has in store for us over the next couple of years, I?m willing to give Green Lantern Corps a chance to impress me enough to add it to my permanent pull sheet. Let?s go ahead and hit this review for Green Lantern Corps #22.Creative TeamWriter: Sterling GatesPencils: NelsonInks: Nelson, Derek Fridolfs & Rob HunterArt Rating: 5 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 5 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 5 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with a flashback scene when Boodika tried to stop Parallax (Hal Jordan flavor) and Parallax ends up slicing off Boodika?s hand and taking her power ring. Comic Book Review: Booster Gold #7
2008-03-14 15:29:00
The Revolution was not all that impressed with Booster Gold #0. I appreciated that Johns and Katz put forth the effort to make the issue a true Zero Hour styled issue, but it was just too slow and repetitious for me. Having said that, there is still no doubt in my mind that Booster Gold #7 will get this title back on track. Booster Gold has been a huge surprise here at The Revolution. I just was not expecting this title to rapidly become one of DC?s strongest reads. Let?s do this review.Creative TeamWriters: Geoff Johns & Jeff KatzArtists: Dan Jurgens & Norm RapmundArt Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 9 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 8.5 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with Rip, Daniel Carter, Rose Levin and Skeets riding in a time sphere. Comic Book Review: Countdown to Final Crisis #7
2008-03-13 16:49:00
There are only a handful of issues left on Countdown to Final Crisis. That is about the most positive thing I can say about this comic book. For my own sanity, this title will mercifully be at an end soon and I can cease chronicling this story for the benefit of others. Last issue of Countdown to Final Crisis was disappointing and I see no reason to think that we are going to get a quality read with Countdown to Final Crisis #7. Let?s go ahead and hit this review.Creative TeamWriters: Paul Dini, Adam Beechen & Keith GiffenPencils: Tom DerenickInks: Wayne FaucherArt Rating: 6 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 4 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 5 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with Holly and Harley on their way back to Gotham City. Weekly Awards For The Comic Books From March 5, 2008
2008-03-12 13:55:00
Let?s go ahead and dish out The Revolution?s weekly awards. The nominees for the Che for the best read of the week:Green Lantern #28Moon Knight #16The Winner: Green Lantern #28Unlike last week, this week was a really easy pick. There were plenty of solid and serviceable reads this past week, but not too many that were anything special. Moon Knight #16 was another fine read. Moon Knight is a balanced title that combines hardcore violence along with well crafted dialogue and excellent character work. If you enjoy dark and mentally unstable heroes then I would definitely recommend giving Moon Knight a try. However, I had to hand the Che to Green Lantern #28. I?ve already posted a review for this issue, so I?m not going to re-hash how much I enjoy what Johns is doing on this title. Suffice it to say that Green Lantern is without a doubt DC?s heavy hitter at the moment and is well worth your hard earned money. And now the nominees for the Sequential Methadone Award for the worst read of the...

Comic Book Review: Uncanny X-Men #496
2008-03-11 19:57:00
Last issue of Uncanny X-Men laid the foundation for the new direction for this title in the wake of the Messiah Complex. It was not anything spectacular, but it certainly was a solid issue that kicked off what should be an entertaining story arc. I?m sure that Brubaker has another reliable read in store for us with Uncanny X-Men #496. Let?s do this review.Creative TeamWriter: Ed BrubakerArt: Michael ChoiArt Rating: 9 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 7 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with Angel joining the other dirty hippies, as Eric Cartman would say, in their little mind trip that is going on in San Francisco. We see Hepzibah, already under the influence of the strange time warp, hanging out and dancing with some hippies. Green Lantern is always a title that The Revolution looks forward to reading. Johns is giving us a run that is going to become the definitive take on the Green Lantern mythos. There is no doubt in my mind that Green Lantern #28 is going to offer up yet another enjoyable read. Winter's Parting Shot
2008-03-08 23:45:00
The weather has gotten nicer and nicer here at the Bunker as winter gives way to spring. The warm air of spring is beginning to assert itself with more regularity. The morning has brought the sound of birds chirping outside my window. The flowers are beginning to bloom and the trees are springing to life. The days are getting longer and Daylight Savings Time begins tonight. Spring training has brought us the crack of the baseball bat. So what does all this mean? That winter has to get one last shot in on me before it fades away.Yup, old man winter served up one evil batch of the flu and sent it to the Bunker and wiped me out Thursday night. Damn the flu for preventing me from fulfilling my quota of reviews for this week. At any rate, once I have vanquished this flu and have rejoined the land of the living I will certainly start posting reviews in short order.

Comic Book Review: Countdown to Final Crisis #8
2008-03-06 16:17:00
Countdown to Final Crisis continues to chug steadily toward its conclusion. There is no doubt that this title has been a serious disappointment and a mere shell of what 52 was. However, at least Dini has delivered serviceable reads as we head to the end of this title. Will Dini be able to keep it rolling or will Countdown to Final Crisis suffer from an unsatisfactory ending? Let?s do this review for Countdown to Final Crisis #8 and find out.Creative TeamWriters: Paul Dini, Justin Gray, Jimmy Palmiotti & Keith GiffenPencils: Carlos MagnoInks: Rodney RamosArt Rating: 6 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 5 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 5.5 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with the Atom blaming himself for Jean descending into madness and killing Sue Dibny. We really got spoiled with so many fantastic reads this week. This was certainly one of the stronger selection of comic books that we have gotten in a long time. I enjoyed All Star Batman and Robin #9 immensely. However, the outrageous style of writing and limited appeal prevented this title from garnering the Che this week. Both of Brubaker?s reads were impressive. Captain America #35 was another quality read. However, it lacked that something special in order to win the Che. Daredevil #105 was flat out awesome. Comic Book Review: Thor #6
2008-03-04 21:10:00
With the exception of the one issue dedicated to JMS? bizarre obsession with punking out Tony Stark, The Revolution has been impressed with Thor . JMS appears to have a nice handle on Thor?s character. And JMS? style of writing is an excellent match for a magic based title full of Norse gods. I am sure that Thor #6 will be another quality read. Let?s do this review.Creative TeamWriter: J. Comic Book Review: All Star Batman and Robin #9
2008-03-03 21:25:00
The Revolution always has a blast reading Miller?s All Star Batman and Robin. I know that many people have been turned off by Miller?s obviously outrageous take on Batman in this title. And, yes, Miller has become incapable of writing any title without making it seem like Sin City. However, I appreciate Miller?s unique approach to the Batman. The vast majority of comic books are so politically correct and are scared of offending anyone that they have basically become totally neutered. Not Miller. His stories are a concoction of booze, cigarettes, sex and testosterone. Miller delivers his stories with a pissed off middle finger showing no fear of alienating himself from the rest of the hive minded PC community of comic book writers. I always appreciate the rebel and I can dig it when a writer is purposely trying to have some fun and be as outrageous as possible. I?m sure that All Star Batman and Robin #9 will be plenty more of the same. Let?s hit this review.Creative TeamWriter: Frank...

The Revolution praises Brubaker?s Captain America each and every month. Honestly, I?m not related to Brubaker and I have no agenda. The fact is that Brubaker really is cranking out a run on this title that is certain to become legendary. There is no doubt in my mind that Captain America #35 is going to be another incredible read. Comic Book Review: Justice Society of America #13
2008-03-03 03:37:00
The Revolution has found the past two issues of the Justice Society of America to be rather disappointing. And that is surprising considering how consistent this title had been through the first eleven issues. It appears that Johns is finally ready to get the Gog story arc rolling in earnest. Hopefully, with Justice Society of America #13 Johns will return to form and deliver a quality read. Comic Book Review: Legion of Super Heroes #39
2008-03-02 00:24:00
The Revolution has thoroughly enjoyed Shooter and Manapul?s first two issues on the Legion of Super Heroes . It is great to see this title shaping back into form after being such a lackluster read for so many years. I haven?t been this excited about reading the Legion of Super Heroes since DC wised up and wiped out the DnA Legion and allowed Waid and Kitson to start fresh and try and establish a Legion more loyal to the true essence and roots of what makes the Legion of Super Heroes so unique. Unfortunately, Waid?s threeboot, though solid, simply lacked that something special that Shooter has managed to bring to this title. Shooter knows the Legion like so very few writers and he is putting on a clinic on how to handle these characters. There is no doubt that Legion of Super Heroes #39 is going to be another strong read. The Revolution's Second Anniversary
2008-02-29 16:17:00
February marks the second anniversary of The Revolution. I cannot believe it has already been two years! I never thought that I would be doing this blog for longer than maybe six months or so. This blog started off as just an outlet for me to blow off some steam about comic books, discuss comic books with fellow fans and to try and encourage people to try reading titles that they never thought about reading before. And what has been the most rewarding part of doing The Revolution is whenever anyone posts that they tried a certain title because of my reviews and that they now read the title regularly. That is awesome. Spreading the joy of comic books is wonderful. In the first year, The Revolution had around 50,000 visitors. I was stunned and amazed. Well, The Revolution continues to spread across the globe as we blew past our first year totals and had around 195,000 visitors in our second year.
