Comic Book Review: Batman #675
2008-04-26 15:14:00 The Revolution is looking forward to the upcoming ?Batman R.I.P.? story arc that Morrison has cooked up for us. Batman #675 is a set-up issue as Morrison begins to set the stage for ?Batman R.I.P.? I have a feeling that we will get a pretty entertaining little read with Batman #675. Let?s go ahead and hit this review.Creative TeamWriter: Grant MorrisonPencils: Ryan BenjaminInks: Saleem CrawfordArt Rating: 6 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 7 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 6.5 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with Nightwing and Robin busting up a bunch of robbers wearing dog masks. We cut to Bruce Wayne and Jezebel Jet having a romantic dinner at an expensive trendy restaurant. Bruce is in his usual carefree dandy form. Jet snaps on Bruce and says that he always disappears and she can never reach him. Jet says that she is not one of Bruce?s bimbo heiresses. That he can?t treat her like dirt. That there is much more than this superficial life.Jet exclaims that she feels... More About: Comic , Book Review , Review , Book
Comic Book Review: Mighty Avengers #12
2008-04-25 18:28:00 Mighty Avengers continues to be a much better read than New Avengers. And that trend should continue with Mighty Avengers #12. We get treated to a Nick Fury spotlight issue with Mighty Avengers #12. We should learn what role Nick Fury is playing in the battle against the Skrulls. Let?s go ahead and hit this review.Creative TeamWriter: Brain Michael BendisArtist: Alex MaleevArt Rating: 5 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 6.5 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with a flashback to when Latveria launched a counter-attack in response to the covert mission in Latveria by a Nick Fury led team that included Wolverine, Spider-Man, Daredevil, Black Widow and Luke Cage. We see an LMD of Nick Fury telling the heroes that he is done with politics. That they will never see or hear from him again. That one day they will look around and see the world like he has to and that they will know that Nick did the right thing. We cut to one month later with Count... Comic Book Review: Countdown to Final Crisis #1
2008-04-24 23:08:00 We are finally here. There were moments when I thought I would not be able to last to the very end. It has been a real struggle to keep chronicling this story as it simply sunk to all new lows with each issue. For as much a success as 52 was, Countdown has been an unmitigated failure. DC gagged up one horribly plotted and paced story with this title. Countdown was a flawed and poorly conceived idea from the start and suffered from lousy execution. And what really gets me is that there appears to be no purpose to this title. Morrison has gone out of his way to state that his Final Crisis has nothing to do with Countdown to Final Crisis. Huh, whaaaat? You mean a comic book entitled ?Countdown to Final Crisis? has nothing to do with Final Crisis? That lacks any and all sense. That is either a result of poor communication between the DC editorial staff and their creative talent or an admission by DC that Countdown has been an utter failure. At any rate, the end is finally here as Countdow... Don?t you just hate it when your job gets in the way of important things in life like blogging? All right, let?s check out the comic books for this week. We have a relatively small week with only 10 titles headed to the Bunker. This week?s shipment of comic books is bit heavier with Marvel titles.Which DC comic book am I most looking forward to reading? I?m pretty curious to see what Morrison has in store for us with Batman #675. Weekly Awards For The Comic Books From April 16, 2008
2008-04-23 00:00:00 Let?s go ahead and dish out The Revolution?s weekly awards. The nominees for the Che for the best read of the week:Captain America #37Iron Man #28X-Factor #30The Winner: Iron Man #28This was a tough choice since we got several excellent reads this week. Captain America was another phenomenal read. Brubaker just continues to impress with each and every issue. We are witnessing history with Brubaker?s run on Captain America.X-Factor #30 was another gem of a read. David continues to crank out wonderfully written issues each and every month. I know that the sales numbers will never reflect this, but X-Factor is hands down the best of all of the X-titles that are currently on the market. In the end, I had to give the Che for the best read of the week to Iron Man #28. The Knaufs ended their incredible story arc with quite simply a brilliant double-sized issue. This was a fantastic ending that treated the reader to drama, several stunning surprises and some kick-ass action. Despite a lack of... More About: Comic , Books , Awards , April , Comic Books
Comic Book Review: X-Factor #30
2008-04-22 15:15:00 What a week this is. The Revolution gets treated to our three favorite Marvel comic books in Captain America, Iron Man and X-Factor. Now, I will admit that X-Factor cooled off a bit due to Messiah Complex. Even though I enjoyed the Messiah Complex event, I found that it did nothing but hinder X-Factor?s momentum. I would have rather that the Marvel editors simply leave David alone to do his own thing with X-Factor. I prefer X-Factor to remain largely separated from the rest of the X-titles. Still, on the plus side, the Messiah Complex issues did expose X-Factor to new readers who still had not given this gem of a title a try.At any rate, I?m looking forward to X-Factor #30. I have always liked Arcade. He is an enjoyable old school villain complete with a goofy gimmick and preposterous and outlandish death traps. I wouldn?t want a steady diet of this type of over the top and unrealistic villain, but it is fine for a once in a while treat. Let?s go ahead and do this review for X-Facto... Comic Book Review: Iron Man: Legacy of Doom
2008-04-21 15:00:00 The Revolution had to pick up a copy of Iron Man : Legacy of Doom #1. C?mon, it is David Michelinie and Bob Layton! These guys are the definitive Iron Man creative team. Michelinie and Layton served two tours of duty on Iron Man. The first from 1978 to 1982 and the second tour from 1987-1989.At any rate, this mini-series is the conclusion of The Camelot Trilogy. In 1981, Michelinie and Layton gave us the first installment of this trilogy with Iron Man #149-150, when Doom and Iron Man got stuck in King Arthur?s Camelot. The second installment of this trilogy was in 1989 when Michelinie and Layton gave us Iron Man #249-250 where Merlin summons Iron Man and Doom to the future to save the world from futuristic versions of the two men and to further the return of King Arthur.Evidently, Iron Man: Legacy of Doom is a lost tale that takes place a few weeks after the events in Iron Man (Vol. 1) #250. All right, enough of the back-story. Let?s go ahead and do this review for Iron Man: Legacy o... More About: Comic , Book Review , Review , Book
Comic Book Review: Iron Man #28
2008-04-20 18:59:00 Iron Man continues to be another phenomenally well written title that unfortunately isn?t getting the attention that it so richly deserves. It is an absolute shame that much of the utter garbage that Marvel and DC foists on us each month sells better than Iron Man. Of course, when Marvel allows writers like Bendis and JMS to routinely perform character assassination on Tony Stark it is no wonder that more comic book readers aren?t giving this title a try.Still, the Knaufs remain undaunted by the tough situation that Marvel has placed them in. The Knaufs continually deliver a complex, deep and impeccably crafted read each and every month. I have never seen a writing team do such amazing things with Tony Stark?s character since David Michelinie and Bob Layton gave us the ?Demon in a Bottle? story arc. We are getting treated to a double sized issue with Iron Man #28. I?m sure that we are in store for another exciting read. Let?s do this review.Creative TeamWriters: Daniel and Charles K... Comic Book Review: Captain America #37
2008-04-18 15:00:00 Captain America is arguably the best title that Marvel publishes. The Revolution has continually trumpeted Brubaker?s impressive work on this title. It defies any and all common sense that titles like New Avengers, Amazing Spider-Man and the Ultimates 3 that aren?t a tenth of the quality of Captain America still post larger sales numbers. At any rate, I am confident that Captain America #37 will be another superlative issue.Creative TeamWriter: Ed BrubakerArtist: Steve EptingArt Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with a flashback scene to August of 1944 when the victorious American army rolled through Paris, France freshly liberated from the Nazis. Comic Book Review: Countdown to Final Crisis #2
2008-04-17 15:15:00 It has been a long arduous road, but we are finally mercifully arriving near the end of Countdown to Final Crisis. I will be shocked if DC can actually pull of an ending to this unremarkable title that I will consider interesting and enjoyable. I dread seeing how Dini and company write Superman-Prime, I mean, Mary Marvel?s character in Countdown to Final Crisis #2. 2008-04-15 15:30:00 Green Lantern Corps is quickly approaching the point where it falls victim to The Revolution?s dreaded axe. Comic Book Review: Fantastic Four #556
2008-04-14 15:15:00 The Revolution loved the last issue of Fantastic Four . Millar and Hitch served up a riveting read. Comic Book Review: Titans #1
2008-04-13 16:30:00 The Revolution is full of mixed feelings about the debut of Titans #1. I grew up a diehard fan of the wonderful Wolfman/Perez Teen Titans. For me, this is the iconic version of the Teen Titans. Still, I?m hesitant about having the Wolfman/Perez Titans getting back together. First, I staunchly believe that you can never go home again. The past is the past and it just cannot be relived. What Wolfman and Perez did with this roster is something that should be praised and enjoyed. However, I don?t see any reason for bringing the Wolfman/Perez Titans back. There is just no way that this current take on the Wolfman/Perez Titans will be able to compare to what we got the first time around.Second, the writer DC tapped for this title is none other than Judd Winick. I always think it is incumbent upon a reviewer to openly state any inherent or uncontrollable biases immediately prior to reviewing a comic book. Let me make it clear that I have rarely been even remotely impressed with Winick?s wr... More About: Comic , Book Review , Review , Book

2008-04-12 16:00:00 Booster Gold never fails to deliver a quality read. DC has a real gem on their hands with this title. Comic Book Review: Justice Society of America #14
2008-04-11 14:49:00 The Revolution has been less than impressed with the painfully slow pacing of this current story arc. Johns continues to display a blatant disregard for how his stories read in a monthly fashion and simply focuses on the goal of writing a story suited for trade format. Having said that, this story has plenty of potential and I can only hope that we get something that resembles plot progression with Justice Society of America #14. Comic Book Review: Countdown to Final Crisis #3
2008-04-10 15:30:00 Thank god that we are finally approaching the end to this disappointing title. Countdown to Final Crisis #3 will probably continue the tradition of less than impressive reads. Comic Book Commentary: Iron Fist
2008-04-09 17:00:00 On Monday I saw the sad news that The Immortal Iron Fist is having its entire creative team gutted. You can check out Comic Book Resources article about the creative team switch right here. I have not been shy about my praise for the excellent work that Brubaker, Fraction and Aja have delivered on The Immortal Iron Fist. This title is a hidden gem.The creative team have done a stunning job taking a somewhat dated and cheesy 1970?s character and giving him a full treatment in an effort to re-fashion him into a character that is relevant to the modern era of the 616 Universe. Brubaker and Fraction were able to see the hidden potential in Danny?s character and bring it to fruition. Brubaker and Fraction also managed to weave a delightfully complex and intriguing mythos with their re-imagining of the history of the Iron Fist. The depressing news is that Brubaker, Fraction and Aja are all leaving the title together. This is a crushing blow to The Immortal Iron Fist and one that the title ... More About: Commentary , Comic Book

2008-04-08 16:00:00 The Revolution has enjoyed the first couple of issues of Project Super Powers. I am a huge fan of Golden Age characters and had been looking forward to getting treated to The Twelve and Project Super Powers at the same time. Comic Book Review: Cable #2
2008-04-07 17:00:00 Cable is one of the various titles that spun out of the conclusion of Messiah Complex. I will admit that I have never been a big Cable fan. I rarely like anything associated with Rob Liefeld. I have always viewed Cable as the epitome of everything that was wrong with the worst decade in comic book history. But, I have softened my view of Cable and have come to like him more and more over the past couple of years.I decided to give this new Cable a try because it seemed that we were going to get a more Eastwood styled Cable. And I am a huge Eastwood junkie. I enjoyed Cable #1. I like the portrayal of Cable as an old and battle scarred gunslinger. We also got plenty of action. 2008-04-05 19:18:00 The Revolution hasn?t been that thrilled with Dini?s work on Countdown to Final Crisis. However, Dini?s run on Detective Comic s has been quite enjoyable. Comic Book Review: Secret Invasion #1
2008-04-03 04:45:00 The Revolution loves big events. Be it from Marvel or DC, I get excited over big events like I do over the big summer blockbuster movies. And often, the excitement and anticipation to the big events are far more fun than the big events themselves. Many times, the big events fail to live up to the hype.I will readily admit that I am suspicious that Secret Invasion is going to be much of an impressive story. I have a feeling that we are going to get an event that is going to be a rather thin read with not much in the way of actual storyline, plot development or character work and heavy on ?shocking? random Skrull reveals and over the top action scenes designed to evoke that ?Oh shit!? moment from the reader.Basically, I?m expecting Secret Invasion to be like your average blockbuster summer movie that relies on flashy special effects and adrenaline pumping action scenes to distract the reader from the fact that there is little to no story, terrible acting and poor dialogue. With that in...
