Comic Book Review: Iron Man #25

The Revolution has absolutely loved the Knaufs? run on Iron Man . This is certainly one of the best versions of Iron Man since the glory days of Micheline and Layton. Iron Man sports some of the strongest writing of any Marvel comic book. I?d even say that the Knaufs might actually be topping Brubaker?s incredible effort over on Captain America. The Knaufs have made Iron Man one of the best written and most complex titles currently on the market. I?m sure that Iron Man #25 will be another excellent read. Comic Book Review: Legion of Super Heroes #38

The Revolution absolutely loved Shooter and Manapul?s debut issue on Legion of Super Heroes #37. It was fantastic. This old school/new school combination definitely pumped new life into this half-dead franchise. The Legion has been struggling ever since Crisis on Infinite Earths wreaked havoc on their continuity and history. Writers have come and gone and DC has been forced to perform complete and total re-boots on this title several times. Well, after a couple of decades of mismanagement and an apparent lack of concern or knowledge of how to handle the Legion, it appears DC is finally committed to putting some effort into restoring the Legion to its former glory.I will admit up front that I was suspicious about the decision to bring back an older writer like Shooter who began his first tour of duty on the Legion back in the late 1960?s. I know this post has nothing to do with the world of comic books, but bear with me. I promise to get some comic book reviews up by tomorrow. At any rate, It is late Saturday night and I?m sick to my stomach over my NFL team, the Washington Redskins. Yeah, I know, I?m from the 305 so I should be a Dolphins fan. What can I say? As a little kid, I saw John Riggins running over Dolphins and winning a Super Bowl and just thought the Skins were the coolest team around. The Revolution?s poll dealt with the question of which big event for 2008 were readers most excited to read. This poll generated 290 votes. The final results were:1st Place: Final Crisis: 61% (176 votes)2nd Place: Secret Invasion: 39% (114 votes)I?m not surprised that DC?s Final Crisis won this poll. However, I am shocked that Final Crisis absolutely crushed Secret Invasion. It wasn?t even close. Evidently, the readers of The Revolution don?t have much faith in Bendis? upcoming ?You?re a Skrull! The Messiah Complex has been nothing short of spectacular. The boys at Marvel have done a fantastic job crafting a wonderfully detailed and executed story arc. The Revolution enjoyed Slott?s debut issue on Amazing Spider-Man. Yeah, Joey Q?s retcon left a bad taste in my mouth. And no I?m not thrilled with the entire direction that Joey Q has set this title on. But, I?m not going to hold that against Slott who is simply doing the best he can with the cards Joey Q dealt him. The Revolution was not all that impressed with the past week?s selection of comic books. All in all it was a pretty weak selection of reads. The Revolution?s poll dealt with the question of which company between Marvel and DC is currently publishing the best reads. This poll generated 368 votes. Nightwing is a favorite character of at least this member of the Revolution. Chuck Dixon did a great job, in his run, of building his solo career into an interesting contrast of the Batman. Wolfman did a good job of re-establishing the character, getting him back to basics after the One Year Later issues did him some damage. Wolfman did not, in this revolutionaries opinion, have the most interesting adventures for Nightwing to participate. Mighty Avengers has been hurt by the delays caused by Frank Cho?s inability to meet a monthly shipping schedule. So, Mighty Avengers #7 sports a guest artist in Mark Bagley. We are also going to finally get the beginning of the Venom symbiotes story arc that has already been concluded over in New Avengers. All right, The Revolution needs to talk about how we are going to handle Amazing Spider-Man from here on out. Look, the One More Day story arc sucked. I know that and you know that. And we all agree that Joey Q?s poorly constructed retcon was a massive mistake and made for a dreadful read. I mean this retcon was so bad that you would have thought that DC had written it.And the amount of criticism has been incredible. And not just from fans. The squabbling between Joey Q and JMS has just added more fuel to the fire. Keith Giffen in his column over on Comic Book Resources poked fun at the poorly concocted retcon utilizing the magical powers of Mephisto. I am surprised at how unimpressed I have been with Johns? handling of this story arc involving the Pre-Crisis Legion from the Lightning Saga story arc from the JLA/JSA crossover. The Revolution has been anxiously waiting for Legion of Super Heroes #37. This is a huge issue for the Legion. The new creative team of the legendary Jim Shooter and hot young artist Francis Manapul take control of the Legion with this issue. I?m very curious to see how Shooter is able to perform on his second tour of duty on the Legion of Super Heroes. I remain cautiously optimistic that this old school/new school combination can finally breathe some life into this eternally moribund title.
